Lightningstar listened to Peachdapple speak. He nodded sllowly before speaking. “If you believe we have certain herbs to spare then I agree. What herbs do they have?” He asked. “Burdock Root, Marigold, and Juniper Berries. Three very useful herbs for injuries and sickness. Marigold is what we need most of, though in case there was another fire, Skyclan also grows Milkweed, an herb I have come to learn is exceptional with healing burns. The only shoots I found for us were right along the border.” Peachdapple explained. Her tail flicked as she listed the herbs that Thunderclan had. “We have plenty of Celadine for eye injuries. Far too much to need to collect it all at once. We have Chervil, great for bellyaches and for wounds, but only after they’re already infected. Not before. Yarrow is growing as wild as ever near Snakerocks, which can cause vomiting and is the best cure for poison from prey or ingesting poisonous plants. I expect that might be useful for Skyclan, seeing as Foxglove and Nightshade will grow almost anywhere…” Peachdapple sighed heavily. “Losing Sunningrocks means we lose our Chickweed. That is our best cure for Greencough when Catmint runs out…”

Lightningstar nodded his head. “Then you may go try and trade herbs.” He agreed. “Ghostscreech and another warrior will accompany you.” He spoke before looking at his deputy. “It looks like we can’t afford to take back Sunningrocks with herbs so low.”

Ghostscreech gave a nod, “I’ll find another warrior to go, just let me know when you want to leave.” He told Peachdapple, then looked over at Lightningstar, “There’s something I want to suggest. Without Sunningrocks, it’ll be more difficult to find prey, especially with Leaffall upon us. I want to suggest that maybe we should look for prey in the twolegplace.” He said, having of thought of this before. “We might be be able to find a good amount of prey on the outskirts, and we wouldn’t be hunting on another clan’s territory.”

Peachdapple nodded gratefully to her leader, before her eyes flicked over to Ghostscreech with interest. Hunting patrols to Twolegplace? That was an idea she hadn’t heard before. Thunderclan did need prey though, or all the herbs in the world would be useless anyway. She nodded again.
“Ghostscreech’s idea might just work out for us. If Shadowclan can hunt at Fourtrees, Starclan willing, and Windclan can hunt at Highstones, Starclan willing again, then surely we can use our borders to Twolegplace to our advantage. We’ll need prey before Leafbare sickness sets in…”
Frostmoon hesitated as she stood outside of Lightningstar’s den, too far away to hear anything but close enough that her anxiousness surely must have been radiating from her.

No worries, feeling pretty slow today myself)
Aspenfall let out a sigh as he sat outside the medicine cat den. He had counted their herb stock while Peachdapple was talking to Lightningstar and Ghostscreech, and things weren't looking good. He hoped his mentor brought up their crisis to the leader. What would Slatesight do in this situation? he found himself thinking. Even though his father was forbidden from being a medicine cat, he probably had a better idea of what could be done. I shouldn't rely on him. I need to be my own medicine cat.
Nighteye stared towards the leader's den in curiosity, wondering what Lightningstar was going to do. He couldn't imagine the Clan was strong enough to challenge RiverClan. He partly wondered what Frostmoon was going to say as he spotted the she-cat waiting nervously outside. Hornetstrike's going to have his hands full, he thought, knowing his brother's best friend from experience.
Plumfur kept close to the warrior's den. She didn't want much to do with Sunningrocks. If she kept away, maybe she wouldn't be considered for a potential retaliation.
Magpiewing lashed her tail in frustration near the entrance of camp. She wanted nothing more than to claw a RiverClan cat's face for taking their territory while they were weakened.
Slatesight let out a huff and sat down, knowing that the herb situation was not good. He needed to make sure he didn't risk any injuries or infection even though he was unharmed in the fight.

Mothsong approached Magpiewing with a light snort. "So it's true then. We lost Sunningrocks to Riverclan...of course we did." She grunted, eyes narrowing with disdain, though her venom was no longer so potent in her voice. Instead, she flicked an ear wearily. "We needed that territory...the Queens need that prey..."
Hornetstrike hesitated as he looked towards Frostmoon, wanting to console her but knowing her well enough that he knew approaching her with sympathy would only upset her more. For now, he padded wearily towards Slatesighht. "Frostmoon's wounds won't get infected right, you think so? Starclan, she'll have to report this to Lightningstar. What can I do to console that? Oh, this is going to be a mess..." He vented to his best friend, before looking at him. "And you! Are you hurt? Please tell me you got a good swipe in?"

"Hence why I'm so upset about it," Magpiewing replied, glad that she wasn't the only one angry. "Those fishfaces probably didn't even have to face the horrors of the fire. They don't know how much we've lost." She threw her gaze to where Lightningstar was speaking to the others. "Do you think Lightningstar will take action immediately?"
Slatesight looked at his best friend with sympathy. None of his kits had ever been in Frostmoon's position, but he knew all too well the struggle of comforting them in difficult situations. "StarClan, I hope not. I heard loud and clear that we don't have the herbs to spare." he admitted. "Thankfully, I barely avoided getting injured... thanks to her. A fast tom tried to target me, but Frostmoon called the retreat before we could really hurt each other." Slatesight explained. "But I guess I didn't get a good swipe in."

Mothsong looked towards the leader's den, hesitating for a moment. Moons ago, she would have snarled her disdain for the older tom. Now though, she didn't have the heart to truly feel that way. Of the two of them, Lightningstar was the full blooded Thunderclan cat, wasn't he? She was too tired and too ashamed of her own lineage to be a hypocrite. She shrugged lightly. "Here's to hoping, lest we all start starving...should we go out and hunt to make up for it?"
"Thank Starclan you were unharmed. I know that Frostmoon would have hated to see you hurt. She likes you just as much as I do." Hornetstrike smiled softly, nudging Slatesight with his shoulder as he rasped. "If anything happened to either of you out there, I wouldn't know what to do...your patrol wasn't ready for a big fight. We'll surely get the rocks back with some time." Hornetstrike assured.

Magpiewing gave a nod, appreciative of the other she-cat for offering. "I'm down. I don't want to stand here and do nothing right now." She motioned for Mothsong to lead the way. "Maybe we can make sure RiverClan doesn't try to take any more of our territory while we're at it..."
Slatesight gave a sigh. He didn't want to deal with anymore fighting. "I'm glad the fight ended before I made a fool of myself, even though we lost... I can hunt and help rebuild camp, but I'm practically useless otherwise." He flattened his ears at the thought of going back to fight RiverClan. "I definitely shouldn't go next time."

"That sounds fine by me. I'd like to see a Riverclan cat step one paw further into our territory." Mothsong grunted, inwardly glad that she at least got along with someone in the clan. Losing Sandstream had left her lonelier than ever, and Magpiewing understood what it was like to be born from something that never should have happened. She shook the thoughts away, letting the younger Warrior take the lead.
"You're still training, and it takes a long time for any cat." Hornetstrike soothed, lifting his tail to rest it on Slatesight's shoulder. "You've been a healer for so long that it must be near impossible to think any different way...You could always come out training with me and Whiteblaze sometime. Bring Mapleleaf too, we can make a day out of it." He purred.

Magpiewing padded out of camp, nodding her head in agreement. I don't think RiverClan would find much good here right now, she thought bitterly. Her paws crushed fallen leaves as she walked through the forest. "I hope we can find something before the prey vanishes."
"I certainly could, but..." Slatesight trailed off. Would it be wrong of him to say that he didn't really want to learn? He couldn't shake the sight of the injured cats he helped as a medicine cat, and the battle moves he learned that probably caused those kinds of injuries. But if he was a warrior that didn't fight, what use was he? "I just don't know if it would be worth it." he admitted. What would Hornetstrike think of the truth?

What would Hornetstrike think of the truth? “Maybe we can find something near Tallpines.” Mothsong offered airily, sighing up at the sky between the tree branches. “Surely the birds must start to come back, sooner or later.” She shook her head tersely. “I personally think we should send a full force to fight them…but I know my words aren’t very popular.” She mumbled. Hornetstrike tilted his head for a moment before he realized what Slatesight meant. His eyes flickered with sympathy as he admitted. “I just don’t want to see you defenseless in danger. I know that you must feel like it’s pointless, but having these skills is better than never being able to use them in a dire situation, you know?”

"We can head there. I haven't been there in a while." Magpiewing agreed. "You would think the birds would return after the trees did... maybe they all went to SkyClan with our luck." she snorted, brushing her tail across the ground. "I would agree with you, but it seems Peachdapple and Aspenfall had their objections. We don't want to lose any more cats after what happened with the fire. I don't think we could forgive ourselves."
"I suppose." Slatesight shrugged. Hornetstrike did have a point, and he was thrown into battle at Sunningrocks when he never would've expected it. "I've retained most of my basic moves, and I'm hard to knock down... how much more would I need to learn?" he inquired.

“We’ve lost so many clanmates…” Mothsong swallowed, her eyes glazing with a tired sort of regret. Many of them had been lost thanks to her own father. She thought of Rystalk and Sandstream, her throat pinching with an emotion that she forced down. “Maybe they’re right.” She sighed. “Maybe being too battle keen isn’t the best solution…”
“Well…” Hornetstrike fretted, ears falling lightly. “Admittedly…yeah, there’s alot more to learn than that. My mentor’s long gone, or I would have asked Mountainfrost to show you all the tricks he had. You know, I bet you could ask Lightningstar to assign you a temporary mentor. Do the opposite of what your son did. I taught him up until his Warriorhood, but he had to start over with Peachdapple when he was able to be where he wanted to be.”

Magpiewing flattened her ears, not knowing how to answer her reply. "Maybe so... but it was RiverClan who attacked us, and we don't want the other Clans to think they can walk all over us. We need to defend ourselves." she spoke. "We just need to make sure we do it when we're ready."
Slatesight hummed in response. Getting a temporary mentor seemed like a good idea, if not embarrassing for a cat his age. "Do you think Lightningstar would allow it? Maybe you could teach me some things first."

"It seems everyone wants to walk all over us. The rouges, Shadowclan, Riverclan." Mothsong seethed lightly, taking in a breath to calm herself. "Some days I wonder if Starclan is even watching us anymore...I used to get so jealous of all the cats who could look up at the sky and see more than just specks of light...they always made me feel so far away." Mothsong admitted, glancing up at the sky with a somber gaze. "But I never thought I would have supported a follower of the Dark Forest. Maybe Starclan is punishing us for following Shadeclaw..." She mumbled. "I don't see why not! Look, breaking the code as you and Mapleleaf may, she's still his daughter, and your kits are still his grandkits. Lightningstar obviously saw it fit not to banish you, and he must have known you'd still be able to serve the Clan as a Warrior and a father." Hornetstrike mused. "Yeah! I'll be happy to teach you as much as I can. My...apprenticeships might not have all worked out, but I did love mentoring."

"I don't know..." Magpiewing responded after a moment. Sometimes she didn't know what to think. Her father was a medicine cat, a follower of StarClan, who broke the code. She had been so angry when she found out that she caused his own downfall. A part of her still felt bitter over it. She shouldn't have been born. Was StarClan punishing the Clan for both Shadeclaw and Slatesight's actions? "All the Clans suffered from AdderClan back then. Wouldn't StarClan have punished RiverClan and SkyClan for that? Maybe the Dark Forest is punishing us, if they have that kind of power..."
Slatesight stood, shaking out his pelt. "You would? Thank you, Hornetstrike." Maybe he could find a way to manage this. "I know I'll be able to count on you."

Seafoam poked her head out of the elder's den in attempt to see what all the commotion was about.
Blizzardstorm herded his kits back towards the nursery and Squirreltail so they were out of the way. The large tom tried to keep his face neutral as he soothed the kits. "Come on little ones, back to the nursery. We have to let the warriors talk to Lightningstar."
Tansykit whined as her father pushed her in the direction of their nest, she wanted to see Lightningstar talk to the clan!
Nettlepatch frowned from where he sat at the edge of camp, wondering if they were going to retaliate right away.

Rouges constantly after us, Riverclan will surely flaunt their prey. Shadowclan still has Fourtrees and Starclan hasn't said a peep about it!" Mothsong's ears fell flat as she huffed. "The Dark Forest has probably infected more of our clanmates. Who can we trust?" "I'd do anything for you, Slatesight. You're my best friend." Hornetstrike chuckled lightly, nudging the larger tom with a twinkle in his eyes. "We'll make you into a snappy Warrior yet. It could also be a good way to have some time with your kits..." He frowned softly then, sympathy in his eyes. "Is Magpiewing still closed off around you?"

Yarrowcloud hobbled up to Seafoam's side, poking his head out of the elder's den to listen as well. "Starclan, surely Riverclan knows that we're still recovering our prey from the fire. We needed those herbs there too...selfish fish-hearts." He cursed with a soft mutter, looking at his denmate. "Wish I could have fought them myself."

"I'm sure Lightningstar will make the right decision on what to do. We need the land but I'm not sure we can support the fight right now. Especially if we're low on herbs."

"I can see from here that Frostmoon's pacing like a skittish mouse...it's never fun to lose a battle with a patrol that you're leading. I hope she doesn't take it too hard." He fretted, worried the young Warrior would blame herself, as most did at that age.

I never expected Earthstar of all cats to do such things, but I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised.”

Seafoam's claws flexed and retracted with annoyance as she thought more and more about their precious territory being stolen. "We've held sunningrocks for moons now. I had thought at this point they may have given up on getting it back. I guess that was a foolish dream of mine. Lightningstar is going to have to send out more cats on patrols even if we don't decide to try and take them back. You never know what Riverclan could be planning."
