Moonsong tried to explain herself, but all that came was another heave. Luckily, this time she was able to get it off the edge of the porch. I really wish everyone hadn't left, she thought, trying to still her roiling stomach. I could really use some help... oh well. Looks like I have to help myself this time. She gingerly took a seat on a clean part of the steps, angling her head over the tree roots.

Moonsong felt significantly better now. After she had regained enough of her composure to move inside, she'd promptly gone and laid down in her room. Now, her stomach had officially stopped churning, although she still had an unpleasant taste in her mouth. Gently raising herself up, she stole a glance out the window. It didn't look like anyone had come back yet. Good, she thought, lowering herself back down. I'm not sure how much more I can take. This town is really starting to get to me...

Moonsong was finally finishing her job application when another knock came at the door. Oh, Starclan, she thought, please not these people again. She tried to ignore the knock, absorbing herself in the paperwork. However, after only a few minutes, another knock sounded, this time accompanied by a voice: "Ma'am? Are you alright?"
(This is my little postman. If anyone creates a post office, let me know and I can give them a name. I just need this to move forward for now. Thanks.)
That wasn't any of the she-cats from before. In fact, this sounded like a tom's voice. Reluctantly rising to her feet, Moonsong moved towards the door. Cracking it open, she saw only a strange... postman. Thank goodness, she thought. "Umm... Did you need something?" "I just saw you had, erm, puke all over your steps," he said, awkwardly shuffling from paw to paw. "I was making sure you were alright." "Oh, yeah." Moonsong looked down at the steps, wincing. "I... need to clean that up. But I'm fine now, thanks for asking." She was about to close the door when the postman stopped her. "Oh, right!" He pulled a worn yellow envelope from his bag. "You have a letter, too." Moonsong was confused for a second, but she took the letter from him nonetheless. The tom smiled warmly, turning back down the street. "Have a nice day, ma'am!" Moonsong offered up a small wave before retreating back into her home. Who could be writing me? she thought, looking down at the address. #17 Sunset Ct. Her heart skipped a beat. Jasminetail. |

Jasminetail. Moonsong was still trying to wrap her head around it. Why would she be writing me? Jasminetail was her old friend from high school. She left her behind when she moved. So why... Only one way to find out, she thought. Slowly she opened the envelope and began to read.
Hey Moon! It's Jasminetail! Greetings from Greenville!
So, umm... By the time you get this letter, I'll be on my way to your house. Please don't freak out! I just... Okay, so you know I stayed behind when you moved because I wanted to finish college. And I did! Degree in Biology with a second in Culinary Sciences. And I was finally going to open that restaurant I was always going on about. My boyfriend, Stagheart (you remember him, right?), he umm... He said there was a place in town that I could use. And so we rented it, although I didn't have a job yet. So Stagheart was paying for it. And you should have seen it, Moon! It was coming along so nicely. And then... Umm... I got pregnant. Please, please don't freak out! It was my mistake. I mean... So I didn't mind it that much, but when I told Stagheart... he didn't take it too well. He freaked out and called it off, saying he didn't sign up for this. I tried to reason with him, but... he left. And so did the money. I didn't have anything. Everything I owned I sold, hoping to make up for it with the restaurant, but... It never opened. I'm homeless, Moon. I don't have anyone to turn to. My mom died of a heart attack a few months back, and Stagheart offered to take me back... but I don't want to. So, as of right now, I'm hitchhiking with this sweet old elder. She's really nice-don't worry. She even let me send this letter with her money. So umm... I'm really sorry to just spring this on you, but... you're the closest friend I have. I was hoping I could start over... with you. It's fine if you don't want to, just... consider it. For me. Moonsong sat, staring at the letter. She read it again, try to process it. Jasminetail is pregnant... And homeless... And is coming here... She shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts. Well... It is kind of lonely here... She sighed, rising to her feet to look out the back window. All right. I'll let her stay. After all... She looked down at her completed job application. I can support a few extra people.

Moonsong turned sharply at the knock from the door. Could she be here already? she wondered, rushing to the door. Slowly, she cracked open the door. It wasn't Jasminetail. It was Lilacsong. Moonsong felt a sinking feeling in her stomach. "Uh, hi, Lilacsong," she said, trying to keep the door between her and the other she-cat. "How are you?"

She slowly started to show signs of anger, and although she tried to hide it, sharp words started dancing on her tongue. She calmed down, and took a breath. "Thornspark wrote words with permanent market all over my bedroom." (It's true, but it's a long story, in which Thornspark is the hero.) |

Oh, and by the way, I'm outside, beebrain." Moonsong tried to control herself. "Yes. You are insulting me and other cats, who, personally, I don't think they deserved it. So you can get off my property now, Lilacsong." She tried to close the door again to lock the she-cat outside, struggling against the death grip she held it in. |
