“Hm, it’s hard to explain, but I think it tastes delightful.” Mistyberry mewed, walking over to the water’s edge and looking down into it. “I know the other clan’s aren’t too fond of the fishy taste and smell, but if you would like to try one, I can catch one for you.” She offered.
“Well, let’s hope they don’t come into our territory then. Maybe they don’t like water, then they would have no reason to come here.” Brightrock mewed, glancing around the territory as he spoke.
Duskhawk flicked his ear in agreement to Swanflight’s statement, “The rain might not stop anytime soon though. It could get worse the more it rains.” He stated, eyeing the river.

Duskhawk flicked his ear in agreement to Swanflight’s statement, “The rain might not stop anytime soon though. It could get worse the more it rains.” He stated, eyeing the river. Splashstone hesitated. Windclan had been having some shortages of prey. Mistyberry looked so healthy and plump that it nearly made the tom envious. Riverclan seemed to be enjoying quite the graces. He knew it was against the code, but then again, it was a Riverclan cat offering prey that Riverclan surely had plenty of. He could hunt after to make up for it. “I’d be happy to try a taste. I’d like to see how it’s done, if you’d be willing to show me.” He decided, not caring much for Starclan or their codes in the moment.

“Sure, come over here and watch.” Mistyberry mewed, motioning with her tail for him join her at the river’s edge. “You have to be patient, and make sure the fish doesn’t see your shadow on the water, otherwise they won’t come near you.” She explained, watching the water intently. Mistyberry waited a few moments before her paw flashed out and scooped out a fish from the river, tossing it onto the ground next to them. Before the fish could have a chance to jump back into the water, Mistyberry quickly bit down into it and dragged it away from the edge, “Here you are, go ahead and give it a try.”

What usually took a long time for a patrol to find, Mistyberry had done it in mere moments. No wonder Riverclan was so well fed. He padded towards the fish and took a bite. Chewing slowly, he blinked in surprise. “That’s… way better than I expected! That’s nearly as good as rabbit is.” He purred. “Thank you, Mistyberry.”

Mistyberry smiled at Splashstone’s enthusiasm, “No problem. I’m glad that you like it.” She said, leaning forward and taking a bite for herself as well. Mistyberry glanced at him again and gave a small flick of her ear, “You know… I think you could be a natural swimmer, you said you’ve never tried before right?” She mused.

He looked at her, asking. “Maybe… you could show me how? I don’t want you getting in trouble though, you don’t have to.” He quickly added.

“I wouldn’t mind showing you if you’re interested in learning.” Mistyberry said with a shrug, “And I would only get in trouble if we were caught. Not very many of my clanmates know about this place, and you’re the first WindClan cat I’ve come across here before. It can be our secret.” She added with a small purr.

Splashstone smiled at her logic, the thought of having something special for once being hard to say no to. Inwardly, he wondered if this was why his mother met his father out here. Splashstone had always felt miserable about his origins, yet he wondered if his mother had also felt miserable, after the death of his older siblings’ father. Had she felt lonely? Why had Stormsplash been the one to ease her lonliness? He agreed without letting himself hesitate. “Our secret then. Okay then, Mistyberry. Teach me how to swim.”

Mistyberry gave him a small smile and padded back over to the water’s edge, “We’ll start slow, and we can stop if you feel like it’s too much.” She mewed, moving to stand in the water until it had reached her belly fur, “It’s fairly shallow over here, so let’s start with the basics.”

At the very least, this could make the unbearable weight lessen from him. He fearlessly waded into the water after her, expecting to feel uncomfortable, and yet… he kind of liked the way the pebbles felt under his paws. “I’m ready.” He nodded, with the first hint of excitement he had felt in moons.

“Okay, move forward a bit until you can barely feel the pebbles under your paws. But don’t go any further than that.” Mistyberry instructed, wading further into the water as she spoke, “Once there, slowly start kicking your legs.”

He didn’t want to disappoint her, especially when she had already risked so much just to be kind to him and satisfy his curiosities. He waded forwards, breath hitching as he felt the river bed separate from his paws. He floated a bit, before he clumsily kicked his legs. At first it was difficult, and yet, it only took him a few moments to get into the rhythm of it. It felt… familiar in a way. Just the sensation of floating, the calm sweep of the shallow current, it felt… right. He breathed. “I think I got it! What’s next?”

Splashstone felt a flicker of confidence as he basked in Mistyberry’s praise. It had taken him a long time to even feel somewhat confident in his tunneling abilities. Even now, losing Dustfire had only broken his heart more. There was no other tunneler like Dustfire. Reaching for that feel good feeling desperately, he pushed onwards until he could feel himself moving in the water. It was a very tiring thing, to swim, and yet he realized that it wasn’t as hard for him as he thought it would be. His fur was short, but it was very thick, and the body that always felt clumsy on the moors and shouldering into narrow tunnels, it felt relaxed and fluid in the water. His heart soared as he gasped with the most excitement he had felt in moons. “I-I’m doing it!”

Whitesun came to a stop once he had reached the ThunderClan border, giving a small flick of his ear when he noticed that ThunderClan hadn’t arrived yet. “We’ll wait here for a little bit and give them a chance to show up.” He said to the rest of his patrol, sitting down to wait, “If they don’t show up soon, we’ll make our way to the twolegplace.”

Silvercloud let out a sigh. "I'll never get used to working with ThunderClan, but I'll be grateful for the extra back up in the twoleggedplace."

(Will do!)
Jadefeather padded up to Whitesun’s side, her eyes flicking over to Hawkpaw to make sure their daughter was close, before she nodded to Silvercloud. “It’s a bit odd, certainly. But at the very least, it’s kept us from conflict with them. And the herbs have helped, between both our clans. We just have to find good prey, and we’ll all be happier for it.”

Earthstar hummed in response. "I'm not sure, to be completely honest. Cedarstar is a hard cat to read." he admitted. "Now, Northstar would certainly have warned us after we reconciled our two Clans. But if Cedarstar follows in her pawsteps... well, that's up to him." He halted once they reached the edge of the river. "Swanflight's right. This isn't too bad considering the rainfall." The river gushed onward with force, but didn't appear to be much deeper than usual.

But don’t overexert yourself, if you’re getting tired, make your way back to the shore.” Mistyberry said as she watched him swim. She swam through the water towards Splashstone easily, “It’s your first time swimming, so you might get tired pretty quick.”

Swanflight smiled at both Duskhawk and Earthstar’s words, flicking her tail as she nodded. “It would be pretty unfair, to expect one leader to be the exact same as another. I know I’d be hard pressed to be as calm and wise as you, Earthstar, if I was ever a leader.”

Splashstone indeed felt himself grow tired with each passing moment. Forcing himself to pace himself, he followed her suggestion and swam back towards the shallower bank, legs aching in a good way as he stood back up. He chuckled, giving a genuinely brightened expression. “You make it look so easy! Really, I’m impressed. Thank you, for just even showing me!”

Padding along the far end of the Riverclan and Windclan border, Fluffcloud mused tersely to Eelshock. “Apparently they found the prey-mauler fur floating in the streams, yet again. Which leads me to think that they aren’t prowling here just yet, just moving in other territories.” She looked out across towards the sloped moors over the river border.

Eelshock hummed with thought in response to Fluffcloud. "Maybe the rivers will keep the Prey Maulers away from us? If that's the case, then we must still be favored by StarClan. Perhaps we could offer shelter to those who can't escape the Prey Maulers?" He rolled his eyes. "Not that Earthstar or Diamondheart would go for it."
Dashclaw wrestled with the temptation of fleeing WindClan for many long moments, but he eventually beat it with a sigh. Afraid to return to camp, he decided to check the borders instead. He headed for RiverClan.

He headed for RiverClan. “Well. What they won’t know can’t hurt them.” Fluffcloud decided, though inwardly she wanted nothing more than to know her father would agree with her and Eelshock’s beliefs. She mewed. “Maybe if we feed them here, they won’t have to waste their own prey stocks. We have so many fish, they’d just have to hide the prey scent. The stakes are too high to abide fully by the Code right now…” Stilling, she swore she spotted movement up on one of the far slopes. She could tell by the skinny frame that it was certainly a Windclan cat.

Eelshock smiled that Fluffcloud agreed with him. He paused and looked around. "We should hunt. If we run into a patrol, we want to make sure we have something for them."
Dashclaw paused where the border dropped into the gorge. He flattened his ears. This border was the border Harewhisker was clearing during the storm. One of the tunnels along this border collapsed and killed his brother.

They’ll hide in the driest spots they can find.” She nodded, already picking up the faint scent of water vole on the shore.

He was talented at fishing, if his enjoyment of catching minnows was any indication. She sought out the water vole, eyes flicking back up at the Windclan border in hopes of seeing what she thought was a cat again. She knew her fluffy white coat made her stand out against the dark stone and water. After a long moment, she finally found the clump of rocks where the prey was hiding. Fishing her large paw and sharp claws into the crevice, she yanked the vole out and bit it quickly.

Talking with you really helped take my mind off of things, it was a nice change for once.” She added, glancing at the sky. How long had she been gone? Mistyberry looked back at Splashstone, not wanting to say goodbye just yet, but she knew her clanmates would worry if she was gone for a long time. “I… suppose I should be heading back now though. It was nice meeting you, Splashstone.” Duskhawk flicked his ear and glanced away at Swanflight’s smile, instead turning his attention back to the rushing river. He kept moving along, ignoring Brightrock’s teasing look. Brightrock’s whiskers twitched in amusement, but chose not to say anything about Duskhawk’s sudden shyness and looked back at Earthstar, “So, what now? If the flooding isn’t as bad as we thought, that means things should go back to normal soon, right?” He mewed.

Splashstone seemed to droop a bit at Mistyberry’s words. He was surprised at how much he didn’t want her to leave. This was the happiest he had been in a very long time. He sighed. “Yeah… I guess that’s fair. It’s not like we can spend all day out here. But…” He looked at her with a hint of hope. “Maybe we can do this again?”

Fluffcloud held her vole up in her jaws, though she now could clearly see that cat again on the border. She didn’t think he could see her, so she quickly trotted back to Eelshock’s side and nudged him. “Look. Up there. See that? I think they’re by themselves…” She gave an offering look.
