Aurora was startled by Kiba's sudden display of affection, but she laughed and scratched him behind the ears. Catori's ears twitched and she made an odd sound, as though envious of Kiba receiving the attention. Aurora glanced in Catori's direction, then called her over so that she could pet both of them at the same time. Marcy nodded but didn't say anything. There was a whizzing sound as something sharp flew past them, and a dull thud as it embedded itself in a tree. It was a black quill, similar in shape to a porcupine's, only much larger. Several more quills whizzed towards them, but right before they hit their mark, the sharp projectiles seemed to hit an invisible wall and bounced off harmlessly. Marcy continued running as quickly as she could, and didn't appear to notice as the deadly quills continued to mysteriously deflect away. The beast let out another trumpet-like cry as it gained ground against the two. The clearing lay around fifty feet ahead, and although the monster was another hundred feet behind, it was closing in fast. (If you can correctly guess the monster's species, you win the internet.) Kiba smiled as he was being pet and after a couple minutes of that he backed away and said," I am sorry for my sudden outburst Aurora I was just overcome by a great amount of joy." |

Aurora continued petting Catori, and chuckled a little at Kiba's apology, "Don't worry, it's fine." She reassured him. She wasn't used to hearing so much speech from an animal, and kind of wished Catori spoke more often.

Alfonse gave a chuckle, and finally settled down. He wondered if the beast ate vegetables, and wished he could get a better visual of it; the area was dark, and that alone made it difficult to see, but the angle at which it stood caused the monster to be nearly impossible to actually see well enough to observe anything about it. He finally let out a defeated sigh, removed his sports coat, tie, shirt, and shoes, and rushed at the beast. Although Alfonse was capable of feeling pain, his scientific curiosity often outweighed the drawback of being mortally wounded, and he decided this to be one of those times worthy of... well, imminent death. He just hoped the beast wouldn't tear his pants so badly that he couldn't sew them together again.

(Okay, night ^^) Without turning away from the monster, Marcy shrugged in response. She thought the question was a little silly, as she believed most people would have handled the situation in the same or similar way. It would have been cruel not to, she thought. But of course, she couldn't tell Klai any of this. So her only response was to shrug. Not an 'I don't know' shrug, but more of a 'it was nothing' kind of gesture. Outside of the clearing, the manticore made a low, crooning type sound as it continued to pace along the exterior. It was very patient, and had no intentions of leaving for the rest of the night. The scent of human prey was simply irresistible to the beast.

Klai stood up and blinked a little bit, rubbing his head and continuing to try and catch his breath. Then he looked over at the girl, blinking a little bit. "Why aren't you speaking? Can you not speak?" He blinked a bit and tipped his head, very curious. He just wanted to know, that was all. "Oh-! And, thank you for uh...dragging me with you-" He smiled sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck and nodding a little bit, to give gratitude. honestly, if she hadn't dragged him he'd be dead, because he was too blind to maneuver through the forest like that. |

Aurora bit her lip again uncomfortably. She wasn't exactly sure how to answer this question, and glanced at Ferra as if to say 'you mind answering this one?'
(I'm gonna respond to Klai first. Qtip and I are still discussing how to handle Alfonse.)
Marcy remained sitting on the ground. To Klai's question she shook her head 'no', and to his thank you, she gave another shrug. She had no idea he might not be able to see her that well.

"Well..." Ferra wasn't quite sure how to answer either. "They sort of protect you, and love you. You eat meals with them, and share stories. And they sort of guide you, to make good decisions." She turned her gaze to Aurora, and gave a smile, as if hoping her explanation would suffice,

Kiba looked at Ferra and then said," I think I understand what you are trying to say." Kiba then walked in between the two girls and asked," So I have to ask you both, are you willing to be my first family?"

Ferra hadn't the heart to explain the biological concept of family to the creature. She knelt down, took his paw, and planted a playful kiss on the top of his head, somewhat akin to how one would kiss their pet. "Of course we'll be your family."

Aurora agreed with Ferra, "Yeah, of course we will." She nodded, smiling as she continued to scratch Catori behind the ear.
Peter led the way around the castle, specifically looking for Aurora, whom he found in the garden.

Kiba's tail began to wag as fast as lightning and said," You have no idea how much that means to me Ferra." Kiba then began to nuzzle the side of Ferra's face.

The girl giggled, and scrunched her nose up at the touch of Kiba's cold, wet nose. She scratched his back for a moment, before turning her gaze upwards to Aurora, and then back to Kiba. "When did you eat last?"

He asked, somewhat finding himself struggle at calling him his father. It was still strange to him. He told him before sighing. "A lot of travel. Mostly." |

The manticore seemed to anticipate what Alfonse was planning to do, and it grinned widely like the cheshire cat. The grin stretched literally from ear to ear, and a triple row of super sharp teeth filled it's mouth on top and bottom. It took a step back, and as soon as Alfonse was past the barrier, the beast made its move, digging into him with claws and teeth and scorpion stinger. |

Kiba turned his head to the side for a moment and then said," Well I would have to say that was about a week ago." Kiba then recalled all the times he wouldn't eat for weeks at a time.

Aurora continued scratching and petting Catori, listening to Ferra and Kiba talk. Upon hearing Kiba hadn't eaten in a week, her stomach sank. She couldn't imagine not eating for that long. Catori sometimes wasn't successful when she went on hunts, but at least she had food at the castle. Maybe she could take Kiba along with her on a hunt sometime.

Alfonse, being quite skinny in stature, was able to slip between the claws just barely. He winced as he felt the sharp sting of the tail, however. Luckily, the scientist's healing factor minimized the damage done to his body, and he immediately dashed around the creature in an attempt to get a better look at it, Alfonse knew his time was limited, so he made an attempt to take in every detail, despite the fact that the discoveries of his scientific endeavor would be significantly hindered due to the adrenaline rush he underwent as he circled the beast, avoiding its claws and tail as best he could. When Alfonse had finished observing the creature, he halted, closed his eyes, and held his breath. This couldn't be as painful as the time he drowned himself, or starved himself, or died of asphyxiation, right? All his previous deaths had been in the name of science. He supposed this one would be as well.

Kiba looked at everyone around him and asked," What is that not normal because my creator would deny me food for weeks and weeks on end if I didn't perform as he wanted?"

Ferra's eyes widened only slightly at Kiba's statement, and she frowned. "Well, no, not exactly. What do you like to eat?" she questioned the chimera gently. "We have vegetables and fruit, and I'm sure Catori wouldn't mind going on a hunt with you."

Kiba just turned his head to the side and said," Well when I was with the creator and did as he wanted he would give me a rotten piece of meat and when he denied me food I made do on the bugs around me."

At this point, nothing that Kiba said really came as a shock to Aurora. She just tried not to think about it. There was nothing she could about his past, after all. At least he'd be safe and taken care of now.

Ferra felt a pang of anger at that. Though it was an emotion she rarely experienced, the girl felt a strong sense of empathy for animals, and Kiba-- having been treated so unfairly-- was no exception. "Come on. We'll find something for you." She shot Aurora a glance, as if asking if she wanted to follow along with the two of them.

"You're no problem at all. You're family, right?" Ferra smiled down at him as the two of them, possibly along with Aurora and Catori, made their way into the kitchen.
