Okay there's a really hot Quinn I'm friends with and we hung out today during my friend's sweet sixteen it was fun I imagine all those who are named Quinn to be hot and sorry this reply isn't the best I'm tired)
Today, for Gil, was pretty much a holiday. He had the day off, which was pretty much nonexistent; with the Selection, Gil had pretty much expected to never have one again. He was half tempted, several times, to jokingly tell Alex to pick a girl and be done with it so their daily routines could go back to normal. But since he met Quinn, well, the idea sort of stopped coming to him. There were two possible things that could happen and neither were good. Quinn could win the entire thing, and become royalty. Gil couldn’t even imagine sneaking off with the future queen. Or, Quinn could be eliminated; this would mean that Gil would be allowed to publicly ask her out, but tabloids would easily pick up a palace guard asked an ex-Selected out, and he didn’t want any unnecessary attention. What if somehow they found out what he and Quinn were doing? It would be a nightmare.
Gil sighed, making his way to Quinn’s door. It was a normal day, and all the girls had been gathered into the Women’s Room. Quinn, however, had made a small lie about how she felt slightly under the weather and wished to rest. She’d been allowed to skip the Women’s Room and stay in her bedroom, which meant the coast was relatively clear for Gil to come to her room for a few stolen moments. Arriving at her door, he swiftly knocked on it, retracting his hand to look around and make sure no staff members were coming down the hall. ~~~~~ Andy had kept his hands in his pockets, silently awaiting to hear Crystal’s assessment or just for her to start playing. At her words, Andy offered her a smile; it was faint, just barely a whisper of one. “I’m happy to hear that you think that,” he told her, truthfully. “And you’re welcome. I think it’s a shame it’s only occasionally used. Put it to good use.” From his spot at the window, he motioned to the floor with his hand that he removed from his pocket. “And if you ever feel like you need to practice dancing, or something, use the floor. Whatever you can use in this room, take it to your advantage.”
Guessing Crystal would most likely want quiet and no audience, he started to the doors. At the door, one hand placed on the doorknob, he turned back to the Selected. “I’ll leave, then. Unless you can’t find your way back, then I’d be happy to stay and listen to you.” He shot her another smile, this time with a flash of teeth. One way or the other, he didn’t care if the girl requested him to stay or told him to go. (Sorry I didn't reply before now!) Crystal smiled shyly and laid a hand on the polished piano lid. She certainly intended to put it to good use. She looked up at him questioningly. Dancing? Why would she need to practice dancing? Oh good heavens, they weren't going to make her dance, were they? Maybe not...maybe balls weren't very frequent? Maybe she wouldn't actually have to stand next to and hold hands with and dance with strangers. Oh dear. Well, that was one more thing to her list of worrisome things. "I-- I think I can manage. Thank you very much, your majesty." Unsure what to do, she bent her head in a small curtsy. A little awkward, since he was so far away-- She fought the blush she felt in her cheeks.

Charles chuckled and put an arm around her. "It's an odd feeling, isn't it?"

"A very odd feeling." Katherine agreed, blinking and getting lost in thought for a moment. "And our son will pass on his thoughts... our grandchildren will pass on theirs... Until the end of Illéa." The Queen was slightly daunted by that thought; raising a child for any other mother was to pass on their values for their family, yet Katherine's children's decisions would affect the whole country.

No pressure on the be-a-good-parent thing. Charles smiled slightly, one corner of his mouth pulling upward. "This is true. I just hope we'll always keep building on the old ideas to make the new ones better." He raised his eyebrows slightly. "What are you thinking? I know that face."

Quinn laughed. "Oh, plenty of time." She walked over and went on her tip-toes, kissing him lightly before pulling back to gaze at him, her green eyes full of happiness. "Come on, I was lucky enough to get a balcony with my room." The Selected went to the two glass doors and pulled them open, propping them at their edges as the cool breeze flowed through the room. "It's not as good as view as your secret little balcony, but it'll do." Quinn walked over to the railing and turned around, watching Gil as she leaned on it. "My mom responded to my letter." She said, trying to come up with conversation topics.
Katherine smiled at her husband and sighed. "Well, I was thinking how stressful this all is!" She waved her hand around for emphasis, although it was almost obvious she was half-joking. "I mean, every other mother has to raise their child to pass on their values, to be good people, you know, the normal stuff. But me, the way I raise my children affects the entire future of our country!" The Queen exclaimed. "How do you deal with that? What if I mess them up? Charlotte and Andy are rebellious enough as it is, and Alex is as stoic as that wall. What if they can't rule?" She clenched her hands stressfully. "I mean, they're amazing children. They're going to be strong and respected leaders, beautiful leaders. But what if I messed up somewhere that isn't obvious, and the second Alex touches the throne..."

A smile then appeared on the guard's face as he watched Quinn make it to her balcony. She definitely was one of the lucky ones, able to have her own. He didn't know the exact number of girls with balconies in their room, but he figured it was around three or four. It had been considered a security issue during the guards' briefings leading up to the Selection, but no one ended up doing anything about it. He stayed at the desk while Quinn made it outside, eyes following her. But when she mentioned her mother had written her back, he pushed off the desk, face curious. "Oh? What did you end up saying?" Through passing, he had learned Quinn was writing her mother. He had also learned that she had had trouble writing it, but only a little. He guessed it would be hard to write home about the prince when a) the prince barely spoke to her yet and she was involved with a guard. "And what did she say?" Gil ended up standing in front of Quinn, his head cocked as he awaited her answer.

"I said that I was enjoying the palace very much; I spent more time describing it than anything else. It's hard to get talking about architecture and beauty wrong." Quinn started, looking up at Gil and tilting her head slightly, causing a stray strand of hair to fall into her face. "I did mention the Prince eventually, saying he seemed like a very nice man." The Selected girl shrugged. "That's about it. I asked about the boys, of course, and did mention the food and how kind all the staff, especially the guards, were." She chuckled and shook her head slightly. "She was so excited when she wrote her letter! I could tell by her words; saying the palace sounded absolutely delightful, how she couldn't wait until... until I won and she could live here. She then went to explain how my brothers are doing, how my dad is... My younger brother is sick again." Quinn's eyebrows raised in worry. "He gets these headaches... It's horrible, and we can't..." She trailed off. "Afford to pay for treatment." She said that last part in a rush, hating talking about finances. "Anyway, the farm is blossoming, and my horse is doing fine." Quinn smiled, although it seemed a little forced at this point.

(Hola, peoples! What's up? Also, have we heard from Astrid lately? And Red, I replied at the top of the page. You don't have to reply, since we're kind of at a stopping point, but I just wanted to make sure you saw it!)
Charles tsked his tongue and couldn't help a small chuckle. "Oh, Katherine." He caught both of her hands in his--even his one hand made both of hers look incredibly small. He smiled at her, the corners of his eyes crinkling. "For starters, darling, you aren't raising these kids by yourself. I have been around for the past nineteen years, you know," he murmured, shaking his head. "You don't need to worry. Andy and Lottie are only rebellious on the surface, I think; it's their way of trying to feel like they're being their own person in a world where there are so many expectations placed on them. It doesn't mean they're bad kids. And Alex--Alex is a character," he settled, chuckling. "But he's smart, and he's strong--" which was really a nice way of saying stubborn--"and he's going to be just fine." He ran a finger over her cheek for comfort. "Besides, there's still hope. One of these girls might really bring out some good qualities in him that we don't see much of right now. We'll have to wait and see. But you are a good mother. Don't go questioning that."

(I haven't seen her around, no :/)
Katherine smiled softly and looked up at her husband with affection in her eyes. "You're right." She said with a contented sigh, laying her head down on his chest and closing her eyes briefly. "Our children will be just fine." She repeated, and she believed it, dozing off. She loved them to death, she loved her husband to death, this reassurance only strengthened her faith in them.
