[ Skittles: honestly i tend to prefer more fantastical plots. i'm always a sucker for general spooky happenings, supernatural stuff, super powers, and so on and so forth. ] ( ooh, ok cx maybe we could do highschool ppl with powers but each think they're the only one and they find out somehow o.o then maybe some kind of romance idk we don't have to )

[ @wingdings: i hope you had a lovely day! take all the time you need to respond. if you aren't sure how liam would react, remiel is asking a lot of questions, so he could try to explain himself. or try to demonstrate what he means in some other way. idk which method works better for his character! Skittles: a while back i did a rp about a small group of kids who were in a Secret Organization where they learned to work with their powers on top and school work and such. it was nice! they would go on missions and fun stuff like that. and i'm open to romance, but only if the characters have chemistry. i don't like to have romance be a required thing. ]

Remiel slapped the cane away from their chest. The only thing preventing them from actually attempting to take it from the man was a fear of how he might respond. "I'm not going to expose you unless you try to hurt me. You helped me out. I wouldn't just leave you to the mercy of the police. Everyone knows they're only merciful who can afford it," they said with a shrug. Sure, the officials were corrupt and that was wrong, but it didn't really affect them. "What are you talking about?" From the stories they had heard, those who couldn't escape the slums learned to only care about themselves. Doing anything else was too risky. Other people would only drag them down. "You protect people here? Who? And why? And why would you lose your home over this?" Now that they no longer feared dying in the next fifteen seconds or so, the curiosity and stubborness that had led them here had returned. "I'm here because I know that I know nothing, and I want to learn. Besides, why should I care if I die? It doesn't matter anyway. I'll lose the memories of a day, but does that really matter to an Aev like me? You can't scare me." They straightened up a little more, never breaking eye contact. "Why are you helping me, anyway? Don't you hate me, and everyone like me?" "I am absolutely fabulous."
OOC CHATTER - - ROLEPLAY - Liam had half expected for his cane to be knocked away, hence why he had leant against the wall in the first place. He dropped his cane back to the ground, tapping it a few times with a deadpan look on his face. He was still considering this person, the Aev, this thing that had come down here to probably look at them and ogle at them like they were exhibits in the zoo.
Liam rolled his eyes, looking away where the two thugs have gone before. "As much as your lot believe that it's everyone to their own down here, you're right one one aspect. You really can't trust anyone." There was a glint in his eye as he said that. "If someone is in serious danger of getting themselves killed or arrested, I step in, because the last thing that this place needs is more blood spilt." His voice was bitter.
"You coming down here to 'learn' -" Liam used air quotes with his free hand. "- puts everyone in danger, because even though you lose a day, get a new body, life down here just gets that much harder with investigations and the people that I look out for getting into trouble for something that your lot look so little on. Death down here is permanent, and I don't want it to happen to anyone I care about." He looked up the path. "I couldn't care less if you died, but because you're an Ave - I'm not letting anyone get hurt because of you." -
"Knock 'em dead, darling."

The magic in the woods was alive.
It was fascinating, after so many years in the bustling city, that even though he was accustomed to the presence of magic strongly being around him, this new place felt just as powerful. More pure, it felt like. Not tainted by a huge group of people and more wild for the magical creatures and animals. It was why Autumn had moved halfway across the country- to live a more peaceful lifestyle in the suburbs and practice his magic in the woods and his apartment without interference. Magic was only heavily inspected in cities. The suburbs would allow him to practice a highly illegal skill, self-transfiguration, all he liked.
He could essentially become a shapeshifter, which would be.....freeing.
Breaking out of his thoughts, Autumn put a slight notice-me-not charm on himself directed towards all human and magical humans- better for them to not report anything, just in case. A wave of his hand was enough to set that up and now their eyes would just slide over him as if he wasn't there, despite him being in plain sight. Magical creatures and animals could still see him, but those were creatures he wanted to meet. All of them were beautiful, wonderful, things that he had wanted to study forever instead of flinching at the inhumane zoos that magic users had created.
The coo of an owl made him smile as he walked into the woods, just walking and taking in the magical presence. They both needed to become accustomed to eachother- the woods to him, and him to the woods. It was the only way he could practice magic safely, and Autumn felt the presence slide over him while it accepted his being. That was pleasant- an unwelcoming feeling would mess up all that he had planned in the calculated move.
When the sound of a large creature falling and its cry of distress was heard, he jumped into action. Running towards the sound, out of the woods and onto the nearby sidewalk he found- some human-deer creature there? It didn't matter what it was, but it was bleeding and he could help it with what healing magic he knew. "You're safe, I'm here to help, I have some healing magic. Not enough to reattach your horn but enough to close any of the wounds you have, okay? Is there anywhere that hurts the most?" His hands lit up with a very soft glow as the wounds he could see closed up, leaving a small shine before they dimmed and looked as if nothing had happened. "I'm so sorry if you'd rather not be healed, but if the wounds got infected I could never live with myself. Can you hear me? Or communicate with me?" Autumn was extremely worried for the tall creature and looked down at it with fretful eyes.

[ i have no idea how this post got so long??? i am so sorry. no pressure to match post length unless you really want to, omg. ]
"That's kind of you." It was difficult to tell if Remiel was being facetious or not—it could go either way, and their expression didn't reveal anything. The Aev looked at Liam and weighed their options. Right now, they had two basic options: leaving the slums and returning to their cushy, boring life, or staying here to get a taste of how other people lived. They had a feeling the man would let them get away if they ran now. It would be far less trouble than trying to keep them there through intimidation and threats, even if there was a small risk they might file a report about him. If the police hadn't already arrested him, he must be doing something right. Plus, they shouldn't throw him to the lions to be torn apart. He had kind of helped them, and Remiel could respect that. Even if it was for personal reasons. Especially if it was for personal reasons, if they were being honest. They were no saint. Besides, no one who seemed to have entirely unselfish motivations was trustworthy.
So, option one was entirely possible. There was just one problem: they didn't want to go home. Home was... not perfect. They hadn't just left for the hell of it, and their pride wouldn't allow them to go crawling back within a few hours of leaving. That meant option two would have to do. The main problem with that is that they would definitely die within a few days if they didn't have anyone to help them out, but they had an idea of how they could avoid that.
"How would you feel if I offered you a deal you couldn't possibly lose?" Remiel offered, smiling slyly. They didn't give him a chance to scoff at the idea before they continued speaking. "Here's the deal: you're going to help me out, and I'm going to make your life much easier. If you show me around and keep me alive, I'll put in a good word for you and this area with the police when I go home. I can even get some money to them to make sure they listen. And if you need any more favors, you can come to me any time. I'll owe you big if you manage to keep an Aev like me alive in a place like this. And so I can't double cross you, I'll give you a gift. One moment, please."
They slipped off their backpack and retrieved a small device from one of the many pockets. "This is my chip. Or, more precisely, this thing is what holds my chip. It is what separates me from you," they explained, leaning back against the wall as they waved it over their hand. A green light blinked on. "I'll be right back." With that, they pressed a button and went limp, eyes rolling back in their head. A few seconds passed, and the light turned blue. They straightened up and smiled as if nothing had happened.
"My chip is now updated with everything that makes me who I am. Here. Take it." They offered the device to Liam. "You hold my life in your hands! Sort of. It's not the only copy of me that exists, so you can't kill me for good, but it is the only one that contains my memories of today. If at any point you decide it isn't worth it, you can kill me and smash the chip. Boom. No more stupid Aev to take care of, and no one who has the information to report you to the police."
Remiel grinned, obviously proud of themselves. "You gotta admit that's a good deal."

"I am absolutely fabulous."
OOC CHATTER - - ROLEPLAY - Liam's eyes narrowed at their words and he very much wanted to walk away right then and there. He didn't like getting involved in Ave or uppercity business, and frankly, he was just annoyed with this kid. He didn't know anything about what had to be done to survive. Liam had already moved back into the alley when Remiel spoke again and he turned his head curiously. He rolled his eyes, but didn't interrupt as the Ave explained themselves.
He waited, leaning on his cane with a bemused look as Remiel explained themselves, and he had been about to refuse, blatently and without hesitation when they used their chip. He curled his nose up in a slightly disgusted expression. He had no interest in helping a Ave survive. He didn't want anything more to do with this kid, and frankly, it would only cause more trouble later on if they didn't hold up their end of the deal. Though everything that he promised did sound promising, the cops off his back, the possibility of being able to live for a time without fearing his life. Liam sighed, and had been about to leave when Remiel came back into their body. He still thought the whole process was quite revolting, being able to change your body at will.
When the chip was offered to him, he took it in his free hand and held it between his thumb and forefinger as if it was some kind of dirty object or as if it would suddenly some alive and bite him. He looked back up at Remiel from the device. "So, I help you, you help me, is that how it is?" He looked back at the chip with his nose curled, but sighed and dropped it into his pocket, shuffling a little closer. "On top of everything that you're already sworn to," he said with a small glint in his eye, "I want you to pay to fix my leg." -

Ossian stayed on the ground for a few moments, not daring to move as he tried to recover enough to limp back to the forest. The world was somewhat distorted, and he wasn't sure if it was because he had hit his head or because blood was getting in his eyes. After a few moments of consideration, he decided it was both. His vision was so blurry his familiar woods looked strange to him, but that wasn't what drew his attention. Something was coming out of the woods towards him. It moved unlike any creature he knew of, but he couldn't help but feel unthreatened by it. The woods were his home. Even the worst beasts that lived there wouldn't harm him unless they were provoked. It couldn't mean him any harm.
He quickly changed his mind as it neared him. The first thing he noticed was the magic that surrounded it—it was nothing like his mother's magic or the magic of purely magical creatures, and it was markedly different from his own magic. But it reminded him of something. What was it?
Oh. The realization hit him hard, and he violently recoiled. The magic felt most like the magic that held him captive every night, that had turned him into this terrible creature. This was human magic. And the human was beside him now, saying something—he couldn't seem to process the words—and then raising its hands. Ossian stiffened and ducked his head down, waiting for the pain to hit him.
But it didn't come. Instead, the pain from his scrapes and broken horn turned into numbness and then a dull ache. His mind cleared, and he caught the last few words the human said. Communicate? He could communicate. The vocal cords in this body couldn't make any noises that passed for speech, but he knew some magical workarounds. "Get away from me. Don't touch me. Get away." The voice was distinctly nonhuman—it sounded more like a series of growls than a form of speech—and seemed to come from the air around him rather than his actual body. It was a trick some of the more mischievous fae used to scare off interlopers. Now that he was no longer distracted by pain, he managed to stand up.
He looked down at the human with fear that hopefully would be interpreted as blood lust. He wasn't very expressive in this form. The human looked small and weak—easy to harm, even with his lack of expertise as a predator. He had the weapons to kill, but not the constitution. Besides, he had never needed to before. Then again, this human was a magic user. It wouldn't die without a fight.
Ossian was swaying slightly as he stared at the human. The healing magic had done nothing to help his dizziness, and he wasn't confident that he could manage to stay on his feet if he ran back into the woods. Falling again would only injure him further and make him an easier target, although... the human didn't seem interested in harming him. Perhaps he could convince it to leave him alone. "You shouldn't have seen me. You shouldn't have helped me. You need to leave now."

"Don't worry, it doesn't bite," Remiel said, amused at how revolted the man seemed to be by the chip. "It only latches on to a major nerve and uses that to connect to your brain. Also, it makes you black out for a few seconds while it makes the copy. You'll be disoriented for a little while, but eventually you get used to it. You can't tell that I'm out of it right now, can you?" Truth be told, they were vaguely dizzy and felt weirdly disconnected with the current situation, but those symptoms usually dissipated within a few minutes. Most Aevs only made a copy of themselves before going to sleep. That way, the symptoms didn't create as much discomfort. They were used to the sensations, however, and good at shrugging them off.
"Yeah, you got it. A mutually beneficial relationship. Sounds nice, right?" As the man added another condition, the Aev paused briefly, then nodded. "Yeah, I can do that. It'll take a little while to set up the details—find surgeons willing to look the other way, you know how it is—but it's entirely possible. You sure you don't want a new body, though?" Honestly, they made that comment just to see his reaction. It was strange to them how strongly non-Aevs seemed to hate the concept of switching out bodies. It wasn't like they would lose anything from it, quite the opposite. They had so much to gain! A new body could signal a new chapter in a person's life, where experiences that would have once been out of reach were easily attainable.
"So, you sure that's all you want guaranteed to you? Because if we're done bargaining, we can shake on it and you can start showing me around."

rIGHT character time sorry for being slow!! it's super basic af and i'll probably still end up contradicting myself omg im already sorry in advance lol
Faris Aetherton | male (he/him) | 25 A young man of refined features and refined manners, he has dark olive skin, wavy reddish-brown hair and sharp, pale brown eyes. He carries with him an air of education and the poise of someone who's never known discomfort; what he lacks in experience he tries to make up for in gusto. Determined, but always seems plagued by underlying anxiousness which occasionally breaks through the layer of confidence provided by his status.

it's fine! i look back on so many character bios like... this is wrong? anyway here is my terrible son who is bad at emotions but really good at stealing.
Micu ---- (unknown surname; if he has one, he doesn't share it) | male (he/him) | somewhere in his mid 20s; he's not quite sure about his birthday Micu has the kind of face is difficult to age. Is he still a teenager, or is he in his mid-twenties? Could be either. His dark brown hair would be neat, if not for the cowlicks that give it a permanently disheveled look. Light brown (or goldish, in cerrain lights) eyes stand out against his olive skin. He stands at a lanky 5’11”. He only stands still when deep in concentration. The rest of the time he is constantly moving and fidgeting, either trying to explore his surroundings or find something to do with his excess energy.

"I am absolutely fabulous."
OOC CHATTER - oops wrong paste.
My character is a princess. More or less. She is a mage. Her mother, a peasant, married her father because he feared that he would die and not have an heir. Little did he know, her mother was already pregnant at the time with a mage's child. She was born and unknown to her father, she was born with magic. Her mother knew, of course, and with access to the library, in secret, she was trained and her magic became stronger and stronger over time. When he mother died, she went slightly AWOL and started using her abilities to screw around with her subjects, creating illusions, stealing among other things. There was, of course, a warrant put out for this mage ... and when she is found by the head knight sneaking in the castle well... It doesn't end well. - ROLEPLAY - -

Autumn was focused on the creature, crouched down by it and worriedly watching it as it moved. They seemed to be better now, which was good, but he knew that each person and creature had different reactions to his magic. It was softer than most, less intruding, but according to a tree spirit he had once helped in a park it was still human and obvious, even if toned down compared to a lot of people. Some had adverse reactions to human magic, whether it be allergic, disgusted by its feel, or with some form of PTSD from former contact. Others loved human magic and stayed around humans to feel it- and he could only wait while this one's reaction was being calculated.
When they recoiled he flinched, frowning. It wasn't allergic, that was for sure. If they were allergic there would be a physical reaction much like an allergic human. Were they scared off or angered by it? He backed away while completing the healing and kept crouching, knowing he seemed less threatening especially when like that. "I'm not here to hurt you," Autumn murmured softly before nearly jolting at a growled voice.
When they stood up his eyes widened- they were huge, at least two feet taller than him, and he bowed his head lightly before it. With a wave of the hands he triggered a spell and then kept his hands calm, not alarming them with any more magic. The kind he had cast was one for telepathy, to communicate with them through calm thoughts rather than have his quiet voice be unheard. "I am not here to hurt you. You're still hurt and swaying from it, so if you wouldn't mind could you sit down? I'm sure you could hurt me if you wanted, since I don't have much offensive magic. Mine is more along defense, healing, and nature magic. Not power or elemental spells. Please let me help."
His eyes pleaded for them to sit down and his smile was tentative. "I can cast an invisibility shield over us both if you don't want to be seen. I know how many magical folk and creatures are sensitive about humans, especially the magical kind."

[ venus: nice! once we get up character bios we can get going. ascendant: i wrote this post at warp speed for some reason so it might be super messy. rip. ] Ossian stiffened at the attempt at telepathic communication, unsure whether that was better or worse than having to listen to the human speak. It was easier to understand—telepathy was often more about intentions than exact phrasing—but it also felt like an unwelcome invasion. Confused and unsure of how to react, he lashed out. Not physically, because he didn't really want to hurt the human. Instead, he took advantage of the telepathic link the human had formed and sent something in reply. It was the emotions he was feeling—an intense, unfocused mix of fear and anger. The beast took a few unsteady steps backwards before dropping to all fours, stopping just short of Autumn. He was waiting for a response, shaking from the effort of forcing the human to acknowledge how he was feeling. It was easy to lie, especially if you weren't a fae and weren't bound by ancient magical laws, but emotions were much harder to fabricate. If the human wanted to hurt him, they wouldn't be able to bury that desire deeply enough to get rid of all traces of it. He knew in the more logical part of his mind that the human was being reasonable about staying hidden. Secrecy was what had kept him safe from humans like this who would gladly harm him. Unfortunately, that part of his mind had been overwhelmed by the portion that liked to come out when Ossian was a monster. The mind was a toy of the body when magic was involved. Magic was all about intention. The witch who cursed him wanted to make a monster, so the curse pushed him to behave like a monster. He could usually resist his more animalistic tendencies, but it got more difficult when he was emotional and still recovering from the shock of getting injured. "I can help myself," he growled, trying to quiet his mind enough to summon his illusions. He partially succeeded. Any non magical human in the area would overlook him, but he could do nothing about the magical human who was already looking at him. "I don't want your help. I can't trust you."
