Argghh. I hate it when you leave the dungeon in a game and all the puzzles reset...

Tangle: Sounds tiring, but I'm sure it's worth it! I'm not sure, but I'll go with good, thanks!
Flame: My answer's above.

@lore - still Tales of Symphonia, as I was saying to Brams before. I only left to restock my items...

When you're at a party, and you tell someone that you're a writer and their immediate response is "oh, i want to write a book one day!"

Hi, everyone! Yeah, we used to have Hit n Run, I was awful at it, just wanted to explore the maps.

Well, at least the first boss went much better this time. I guess it helps to have decent weapons, lol.

@brams - haha, I never played it properly, just drove around aimlessly. I must've been very young at the time, though, so that's what I did with most of my games. Pokémon Pearl was probably the first game I played properly.

@lore - it's a JRPG. Part of the third most popular RPG series in Japan, I think? It's relatively niche in the west, though.

I was too scared to drive in case I hit something. I think mine was probably one of the Spyro games? Enter the Dragonfly, maybe. Diamond was one I really got into though.

It's... It's called Hit n Run, Brams... I've only played Spyro briefly, but I loved Pokémon Pearl and still do. Sinnoh's Pokémon League is haaaaard, though. Not sure how I beat Cynthia as a 7 year old. Lots of full restores, I think.

Yeah, but I wanted to be a lawful citizen. Ah, I loved that little purple dragon. I used to watch my brothers play them, but I never quite got the hang of the playstation controller. Yeah, I think I'm surprised by how easy the other ones are because Sinnoh took me ages. I could get past Aaron quite easily, but everyone else... I don't even know why Bertha was so hard, my starter was Piplup so I had a really strong Empoleon by that point.

Brams - I had my own PS1 and played the PS2 a lot (I now have my own PS2, at last). I'm playing my brother's PS3 right now. And isn't Empoleon weak to ground types? That could've made beating Bertha difficult. Piplup is probably my favourite Pokémon, though, I chose it too.
Lore - I like it a lot, but you have to have patience, as they can take a while to really get interesting. This is true of a lot of Japanese games, though - they tend to have introductions that last hours, ha. I've completed Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Zestiria so far, and Abyss is easily one of the best games I've ever played, mostly because of the characters. Zestiria is good too, though it falls short of other ones so I understand why it was comparatively poorly received by fans in Japan. The more popular RPG series are Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy, I believe.

I've actually played Dragon Quest IX. It's quite a good game.

Great, here comes Symphonia's emotional Coffee Scene once again. The deadly serious scene I always laugh at because of a weird video I watched once. Here we go.

Lore - I played the beginning of Xenoblade X, but as you say, I wasn't able to get into it. I will play it properly eventually, but the slow beginnings are always something of a chore. And I love Dragon Quest IX! I played it when I was younger and I had some good times with friends because of it. I've played that one and Dragon Quest VIII.
Also, I accidentally made my Xenoblade X character look really, really anime. Like, super sparkly-eyed. I didn't realise until it was too late. I'm... kind of hoping I'll have forgotten the beginning by the time I go back to it so I'll have an excuse to restart.

I thought ground was weak to water? Or maybe it was that some of them were rock types too, I don't know. That might explain why I had so many problems with her. But then there'd be that Psychic trainer, I think she began with L? And if I beat her I'd fall to Cynthia. I loved Piplup, I usually pick the water type starter.

Ground is weak to water, but Empoleon is part Steel. Lucian is the Psychic trainer, and I had the same problems... His Bronzong destroys me every time with Earthquake. Its ability is Levitate, and Ground is one of its only weaknesses in Gen 4, so I just couldn't hit it :') And it wiped out my Fire type (its other weakness) really easily. I'm still not sure how I beat it, actually, and I've done it a few times now.

Once you get past the beginning, it's amazing. It's actually my favourite game! Never played any other DQ, sadly. You don't have to worry too much. You get the option to recustomise later on, so if you can deal with it for a few chapters, you should be okay. Mine is kind of a more adorable, more in shape me.

I remember every one of Lucien's pokemon being a struggle. The fire guy was always quite easy though. I had a lot of problems with Cynthia's Milotic, though. Still, eventually I started using the Elite Four for training purposes...

Oh, really? That's good to know. I'll have to play it again, then! I'll finish Symphonia and Tokyo Mirage Sessions first, I think - I'm not so good at juggling a lot of very long RPGs at once, so if I'm not careful, I'll end up not finishing any of them...

Flint's easy enough. Earthquake or Hydro Pump every single one of his Pokémon and you'll be fine, he doesn't have any weird typings or movesets up his sleeve. No surprises. Cynthia's Garchomp is the worst for me, but I tend to win once I finally beat it. Milotic is definitely a threat - it's the other one to watch out for. In my recent playthrough of Platinum, I actually beat Garchomp with a Glaceon, somehow, even though it was only lvl 50 to Garchomp's lvl 62 and I thought it'd get Flamethrower'd to death. Luckily enough, that particular Glaceon had perfect IVs in defence, and Garchomp isn't very good at special attack, so he survived and pulled off an Avalanche, which basically flattened Garchomp. Exploit that 4x Ice weakness!

I think I left Hydro Pump well alone and used Surf - needed Hydro Pump for Cynthia. I don't think I'd quite worked out that you could get PP back. I loved Platinum. Do you delete your save files to play though? Too late, I picked Totodile.
