With a twitch of his whiskers, Palegaze turned to face his apprentice. "All right," he mewed with a touch of humor, his translucent pink eyes glittering with interest. "Let's fight, then." Without warning, Palegaze lunged forward with a paw outstretched. He held himself back, moving more slowly than he would in a real battle. Finchpaw smiled as his mentor accepted, and was rather taken back when Palegaze got straight into it, lunging towards him. Finchpaw jumped out of the way a bit late, throwing him off balance. He got back up rather quickly, regaining his strength. He outstretched his paws, throwing himself at Palegaze. He gave it his all.

Palegaze danced out of the way easily on long legs. He didn't want to make it too easy for his apprentice, but he also didn't want to discourage the young tom.
"Good recovery!" he praised, noting how quickly Finchpaw regained his balance. "Your tail is your best friend for counterbalancing your weight and keeping you on your paws."
He jumped back a few paces. "Your reaction was a bit slow, but that's expected. Here," he meowed, facing Finchpaw with square shoulders, trying to ignore the way the wound on his face was beginning to itch. "I want you to charge at me with all your strength. I want to see how strong you are right now, so I won't dodge or push back; I'm just going to hold my position."

As Finchpaw flung himself at Palegaze with all of his strength, the albino warrior braced himself for the impact as the small brown tom bounded toward him. He lifted his head out of the way as his apprentice collided with his body, but he didn't move even a whisker, his lean muscles as solid as a rock.
Still, he could sense the potential in his apprentice. He was weak now, sure, but he was only barely older than a kit.
"Good, Finchpaw," Palegaze said, meaning his words. "Now I know what direction I'd like to go with your training."

Starters for anyone! ))
Minkpaw twitched her tail as she laid in a ray of sun, resting her head on her paws as she waited for a chance to occupy herself.
Ravencloud padded back from the fresh-kill pile, a small rabbit in his jaws before settling down to enjoy his meal.

Breezekit noticed that Beankit wasn't in the spot that she called him. The she-kit dipped her head in sadness and her eyes was full of water. Like all the kits would do, she started sobbing and said: "I wanna play with somebody!"

Ravencloud perked up from where he was laying, lifting his head from the rabbit and swallowing his mouthful before calling over to Breezekit, beckoning with his tail for the kit to come over "Hey Breezekit, once I finish this, I could play with you? Did you want some too?"

Breezekit wiped out her tears and exclaimed: "Yeah, for sure! I discovered what I want to be at the future.. I wanna be a DEPUTY!" While tolding Ravencloud these things, she bounced to the spot that the she-cat was eating.

"A deputy?" The tom tilted his head "What for?" He questioned, taking another bite of rabbit.

"Imagine, I could choose patrols, telling the leader the dangers of the territory and I would be the next to be leader! But this sounds a heavy burden too" Breezekit told, she ate a bit and continued: "And, without counting that I could learn tunneling and moor-running!"

"It sounds like you want to be a great help to the clan," He chewed thoughtfully "but why not just be a regular warrior? You don't have to do as much, and when you get old enough, you can just sit back, become an elder, and let the clan take care of you!" The former kitty-pet mewed "I could never be deputy, it sounds like too much work."

Breezekit chewed as she heard the tom saying. The she-kit murmured: "Hm, but I still like the idea to be a deputy." The white-and-brown cat reflected a bit and gave her conclusion: "Even with this indesicion with tunneling and moor-running, a thing I never want to be is a medicine cat. Think, sorting herbs everytime sounds boring. The good thing is that I would help my clanmates with their health."

some starters friends ) Eclipsesky was sitting in the corner of camp, an unusual place for the medicine cat who rarely settled anywhere other than his den. He watched the camp with curious, nervous eyes. Tail anxiously thumping the ground behind him. Sagefoot stretched before taking her place outside the leader's den, watching the camp as she planned the patrols for sunrise tomorrow. Sandfall trotted into camp with Wolfstep, each warrior holding a small rabbit. Fallowmeadow dragged new branches and dry grass toward the nursery, noticing that one of the sides had been weak. Larkpaw searched for Siltpath, hoping to go out training.

Siltpath yawned as he woke up, shaking the last shreds of his dreams away. He was going to the Dark Forest less and less, the sadness and betrayal of Meadowbrook's actions having struck him hard. While he had become a much better fighter, it still didn't sit right knowing what he knew now. He knew he had never held much faith in Starclan, but he wasn't loyal to the Dark Forest either. It was... difficult.
He smiled softly though. The time he had spent with Jasmineheart yesterday had been wonderful. He felt his fur grow warm, before he quickly realized that Larkpaw was looking for him. Jumping to his paws, he quickly rushed over to her. "Hey! Sorry to keep you waiting, Larkpaw! I promise, I've got plenty planned for you today."

oh lemme throw my new characters in too hahahaha )
Daisyglow and Yellowmoon slipped out of the tunnels behind each other. The sisters were locked in a heated bickering session as they usually were. Daisyglow's eyes misty at Yellowmoon's harsh words. Once far enough away from the entrance, Daisyglow scampered across the camp to sit alone, leaving Yellowmoon standing at the entrance fuming.
Ivyvine watched his sisters with a sigh as he bit into the small rabbit in front of him. He looked at Yellowmoon in disappointment, knowing that she had once again started the fight with their sensitive sister.

Larkpaw looked at Siltpath brightly, "That's okay, I wasn't waiting long. What are we doing first?" she asked eagerly, re-energized after her day with in camp the day prior. "Blacktail gave me a couple of tips yesterday! I can't wait to try them out."

"Shoot, with tips from Blacktail, you wouldn't need me!" Siltpath teased warmly, remembering when he had often asked the once deputy for advice himself. It wasn't that long ago, after all, he was one of the youngest mentors in the Clan, if not the youngest. It was an honor, really! He nodded to the younger she-cat. "We're going to be working on some tunnels out near Outlook Rock. Once the newleaf rains start up, we'll need to be sure we can keep the tunnels from flooding too badly." He explained.
Soarshadow had watched the two sisters argue as they stormed into camp, the mottled tom giving a small and awkward grimace at the intensity of the argument. Even so, his attention quickly turned to Ivyvine, and he gave the other tom a look of sympathy. Ever the soft-spoken one, he had to pad close to the other tom to have his voice be heard. "They're at it again? That must be the third time this quarter moon. Siblings can be... complex, to say the least." He glanced back at his own brother and sister, Antbite chattering socially with a group of clanmates, and Weaselstride once again seeming to be focusing her eyes on the camp wall.

Larkpaw listened intently as she headed for the tunnel entrance, "How do we do that? Do we do something to the tunnel entrances?"
Ivyvine looked up at Soarshadow in surprise, he had been so focused on watching his sisters he hadn't heard the other tom approach. "I think they've been fighting since they opened their mouths for the first time. It's only gotten worse since our mother went to Starclan," he murmured, eyes searching his friend's. "Antbite and Weaselstride, they don't fight like that do they?"

"Antbite and Weaselstride, they don't fight like that do they?" “It’s pretty simple! We dig tunnels from low elevations, to high elevations as escape routes, and dig chambers further into the ground to divert the water. We also have to fill in old tunnels we don’t use, so less water can get in. There’s a few very old tunnels that still need to be filled in, like some old rabbit burrows and hollows.” Siltpath explained as they slipped out of camp and down into the first tunnel. “Never like that. Weaselstride doesn’t talk unless she needs to, and Antbite is far too social and friendly to pick fights.” Soarshadow admitted, though he gave Ivyvine a soft and assuring look. “I’m sure she’s looking down fondly at all three of you. Conflict happens… but I think in the heart of it, they’ll know when to have eachother’s backs.”

Larkpaw slipped into the darkness behind her mentor, excited to try something new. She had never filled in a tunnel before! "Where do we get all the dirt to fill it in Siltpath?"
Ivyvine didn't look so sure but gave Soarshadow a small nod, thankful for his comfort. "I can only hope they will. I try to support them both but it's hard when they seem to hate each other. Enough about them though, I don't think I ever told you congratulations on your name! It's good to see more of you again, I missed you when we became warriors before you and your siblings."
(I put Ivy & his siblings directly above Soar & his siblings so he would probably be like a moon or two older than Soar )

He teased, giving her a slight jab in the side with his tail "I'm sure a connection to Starclan and being a consultant for the Clan leader are also some good things about being a medicine cat. They're a lot more important than you think."

Ashsong was laying in her nest in the nursery and grooming Cloudkit, who had just opened up his eyes, showing a pair of gleaming yellow eyes. Berrykit was chasing after a mossball next to her mother, having opened her eyes the day before.
Jaykit looked around the nursery, curiosity shining in her blue eyes. Standing up and leaving Ashsong’s side, she started exploring the den.

Soarshadow mewed with a small hint of shyness, before he quickly added. "And your sisters, of course! Now I suppose you can stay up late talking to me again." He offered, drawing his tail around his paws as he looked at the other tom with searching eyes. "This time I won't be too shy to explore rabbit burrows, maybe." He admitted, more brave in his recent moons.

Berrykit was chasing after a mossball next to her mother, having opened her eyes the day before. Jaykit looked around the nursery, curiosity shining in her blue eyes. Standing up and leaving Ashsong’s side, she started exploring the den. "Stay away!" Ravenkit hissed loudly as Jaykit seemed to explore the nursery a bit. The black tom looked coldly at the other kit, still angry and heartbroken over what his mother had told him. It was Jaykit's mother's fault that he never got to have a father, and he found himself angered at her very existence. Clovekit sat curiously at Ashsong's belly, her eyes flickering over to Jaykit and Ravenkit. Jaykit was one of the others she slept and ate next to, just like Copperkit, Frostkit, Berrykit and Cloudkit. There were too many big words for her to remember, but everything in the nursery was so fascinating to look at! She looked up at Ashsong then, head tilting as she stared at her aunt.

Jaykit flinched at Ravenkit’s sharp hiss, lowering her body close to the ground while she looked at him with wide eyes. Had she done something wrong? But all the other kits that were in the nursery were exploring just fine and they didn’t seem to be in trouble. “W-what’s your name?” She squeaked, tilting her head.
Ashsong turned her head, watching Ravenkit and Jaykit closely when she heard the older kit hiss at the younger one. Cloudkit squirmed out of his mother’s grasp and bounded over to Clovekit, “Let’s go see the camp.” He squeaked, wanting to leave the nursery already. Berrykit lifted her head at CloudKit’s suggestion, wanting to see the camp too.

He narrowed his eyes and glared at her. "Ravenkit, that's my name. I don't care about yours! Leave me alone!" He warned, his tail lashing as he crouched in his mother's nest. "He's a prickly furball." Bouncekit scampered bravely towards Jaykit, looking at Ravenkit with a small frown, before he looked at Jaykit and mewed excitedly. "I'm Bouncekit! My sisters are over there, Morningkit and Eaglekit, and Roostkit is pretty shy, so he'll say hi later." He introduced. Clovekit looked curiously at Cloudkit then, her green eyes bright with wonder. "Camp?" She asked, wobbling closer to Cloudkit, before she looked back at Ashsong again. "What's... camp? Is it big?" Her voice was still very new, and her paws and legs were still shaky with her youth. Frostkit was more mellow, not keen on seeing anything if it meant being away from Ashsong's warmth. He gave a noise of protest and dug deeper into her fur.

She could do a lot of digging, especially with Juniperpaw at her side! Larkpaw's whiskers twitched as they headed further away from camp. She noticed the tunnel walls were starting to become more cool with a slight dampness radiating outward. She dug her claws into the tunnel floor experimentally, gasping quietly at how soft it had become. "Wow, I can see why having the tunnels get so wet is a big problem. The floor of the tunnel feels so soft! I'm sure one heavy newleaf storm the ceiling over here will become weaker. How do we keep up with so much tunnel maintenance when the weather changes? Is that why we abandon some of the older tunnels?" Ivyvine's eyes lit up as the other tom brought up old memories, he snickered quietly. "It wasn't me that tried to force you into that burrow. That was all Yellowmoon. I was probably just as scared as you were to be honest, I just couldn't show it because I know she'd never let me forget it. Where'd you put your nest? You should move it closer to mine. I'll stay up and talk to you until moonhigh as long as we're not on dawn patrol." Contentment warmed Ivyvine's center as he took in Soarshadow beside him. He hadn't realized how much he had missed his friend while they had been separated as warrior and apprentice, even if it had only been a couple of moons. But now sitting beside him again, both as moor runners of Windclan, it felt right.

But now sitting beside him again, both as moor runners of Windclan, it felt right. "It's one of the reasons. We keep tunnels that are most efficient and effective when they're needed at that time. That can change depending on the season." Siltpath explained, smiling as he heard the sound of Larkpaw's paws exploring the tunnel wall. "Blacktail was real clever, he knows every single tunnel you can think of, and he had a system of which to repair, which to fill in, which were safest in floods, which were so sturdy, a badger could lumber through them and it would stay in tact. Your mother probably knows his system best now, besides his own kits or Sunstep. If we can keep organized patrols, then we can finish that day's repairs and tasks." He mewed, proud of their work as tunnelers. "Usually I keep a small nest near the back of the camp wall. I like looking at the stars with the gorse swaying above me." Soarshadow mewed, pointing his tail towards the spot he usually slept. He mewed softly. "I chose it when I became an apprentice, because the flowers were out then, and it was a very nice place. I wouldn't mind sharing it, if you like, of course. The flowers should be starting to grow back soon." Soarshadow offered, a small flicker of something filling his eyes before he gave a small grin. "Maybe you should move closer to me, how about that?"

Larkpaw listened in awe, always eager to hear more about how tunnelers work as a team. "That makes sense, sorry for all the questions Siltpath, I just want to learn everything I can. Tunneling is so exciting!"
Ivyvine blinked, taking in his words for a moment before giving a small nod, "Okay." he whispered, matching Soarshadow's quiet tone. "My nest is near the center of camp, it might be nice to have the quiet of the camp wall for a change." He honestly enjoyed being close to the center of camp, he liked watching all the movement around camp. But the thought of having a nest near Soarshadow was too good to pass up, he'd probably go sleep in an abandoned tunnel if Soarshadow had asked him to.
