Cloudpaw quivered with excitement. He was finally an apprentice! He looked towards Goldheart. And Goldheart was super cool too! He moved forward to touch noses with his new mentor.

Goldheart huffed, not exactly fond of young cats but padded forward anyway, nodding to his new apprentice before touching noses with him.

Cloudpaw looked at his mentor. He sensed a bit of hesitated and deflated a little. "I promise I'll be the best apprentice ever." He vowed to him.

Goldheart looked over Cloudpaw, analyzing the small tom. "We'll see about that." he mewed flatly, but gave the tom a little smirk. "Keep the attitude up kit, we'll see what you can do."

Dashclaw flattened his ears when Swiftstar said his name and he barely even glanced at Breezepaw. 'Swiftstar is really making sure I can't go back to being a tunneler,' the thought grew bitter anger in Dashclaw's chest. The WindClan leader didn't care that Dashclaw was the outcast of his family. That Rabbitdash and Harewhisker would never approve of him as a moor-runner. He looked toward the nursery, and lightly frowned when he realized that Harewhisker wasn't even paying attention. Dashclaw let out a sigh. As much as he still wanted to fit to remain a tunneler, he would be punishing Breezepaw more than anyone and Breezepaw didn't deserve it. Dashclaw got up and padded over to his new apprentice, his tail flicking with his disapproval of receiving one.

Cloudpaw brighter a little at the last comment and looked over towards his brother. He didn't envy him, knowing about the drama with Dashclaw. He didn't even want to be a moor runner and now he as to train Breezepaw.

((we stan tense mentor/apprentice relationships lol))
Breezepaw reached up to touch noses with Dashclaw, trying to conceal his disappointment, and eventually letting it give way to his former excitement. He was an apprentice! Who cares who his mentor was, as long as it meant he was on the path to being a warrior!
Swiftstar watched Goldheart and Dashclaw interact with their new apprentices. Hopefully the two mentors would learn as much about their role in the clan as their apprentices, and they would all turn out better for it. He nodded to the group and spoke once more. "May you pass on your talents to your new apprentices and teach them in the ways of WindClan." With that, he signaled the end of the meeting and leaped down from tall rock.

Goldheart turned to look at Cloudpaw, before glancing over at Dashclaw, he had never been a mentor before, where did he even start? "Uh, you want a tour of the territory?"

Blacktail watched the ceremony with a hint of fond memory in his eyes, before his gaze steeled once again. The deputy watched Swiftstar for a moment before he took in a deep breath and let it out. Standing to his paws, he padded towards the leader, voice rumbling evenly. “Swiftstar.” He murmured. “May I speak to you, for a moment?”

Goldheart gave a small nod, "If you're up for it. Did you eat this morning?" he asked with an unusual twinge of caring, maybe being a mentor wouldn't be so bad.

Swiftstar's ears flicked in surprise as the deputy approached him, but he nodded. "Of course Blacktail, why don't we step into my den." He gestured back towards the leader's den with his tail and began to pad in that direction Does he disapprove of my decision to allow WindClan to hunt at Highstones? he thought, his whiskers twitching. That seems unlike him.

That seems unlike him.Blacktail followed the leader with a nod of his head, hoping the conflict in his heart did not reach his eyes. There was work to be done, after all, and a younger cat was needed to do it right. He hesitated for a moment, looking around the leader’s den before he chuckled softly. “You have been in here for a while, haven’t you? I remember the first time I came in this den. My brother and I snuck inside as kits, and I remember the earful we received from Wolfstar...So crabby, in his old age by then. Right before he passed...” The deputy blinked once, before he looked at Swiftstar. “Swiftstar, you are far from the wet-behind-the-ears leader you were the day you recieved your nine lives. Starclan, and yet you still have so much time left to give, and grow...I like to think by now you’ve started to realize that it’s not the same case for me...” He started.

Swiftstar frowned slightly and sat down, wrapping his tail around his paws. "Blacktail I chose you as my deputy because you have more experience than anyone in the clan. Your age doesn't bother me at all...in fact I look to you and your wisdom as a help, not a hindrance." In all honesty he hadn't given much thought to Blacktail's increasing age. The deputy had always been a steady guidance for him, and the rest of the clan.

The deputy had always been a steady guidance for him, and the rest of the clan. Blacktail wanted to purr at the words of the leader, though all he could manage was a small smile and a flick of his ears. “I have been honored, every moment I’ve spent serving you and serving Windclan as their deputy...and yet, we have suffered greatly, and we are changing, in ways that require a younger form of leadership. As a deputy, I cannot show it...yet, my paws are worn down from digging, and running. The cold stiffens my joints in ways that it never has before. I lose my breath in half the time of any other Warrior, and it grows harder and harder to hide it. All the wisdom I have shown, I know in my heart that you have it within you. They say a young leader is keen on a wiser deputy. My dear friend, you are not so anymore.” Blacktail’s eyes flickered to the side before he looked steadily at Swiftstar. “This is the time in a leader’s life to look towards a permanent successor, when your lives pass and you live no more. This day was going to come, sooner or later. I think what Windclan needs now is youth and energy, not any more old wisdom. If we are to recover, from the fire and from Meadowbrook’s treachery, we need a deputy that can act in perfect condition, at full strength and at full capacity. I...I do not think I am that deputy, anymore.”

Swiftstar's eyes widened slightly as his deputy continued on and he began to understand what he was saying. "Blacktail...are you sure?" A slight burst of panic flashed through him, but it was replaced by a strange sense of calm. As much as he didn't want to lose his deputy, Blacktail was right. His own confidence was growing, and Swiftstar was no longer the young, unconfident leader that he once was. He gave Blacktail a warm smile. "I don't want to lose you as my deputy Blacktail, you've been a wonderful deputy, a reliable mentor, and a good friend." He paused for a moment "However I also don't want to, nor should I, force you to stay in a position that you don't feel comfortable in. If this is truly what you want I will honor it, but know that it breaks my heart to do so."

If this is truly what you want I will honor it, but know that it breaks my heart to do so." “I want the clan to understand that their generation is more than capable of changing Windclan into the best version of itself. There are leaders amongst them, just like you, who deserve a chance to help you do just that. I’m still going to be right here, always willing to help and to give advice. Windclan needed me as deputy in their time of peace, and I did all I could. I...admittedly never expected such a position. My entire life, I had been hesitant and unsure, of myself and of the future. Adderclan...it changed me. And even before that, I never felt as if I was ever a cat destined for anything beyond simply being. That cat never truly goes away, even with age.” He chuckled lightly, before he grew serious again. “Thank you, Swiftstar. For believing that I was worth the wisdom I tried to extend. You are a cat worthy of loyalty, and of leadership...But if I step down, I only ask that you consider what ails the clan the most. I want you to think of what divides us, and to choose a cat who will help you close those divisions. I...” He hesitated. “My dream, back then and even now, was always to one day see a Windclan that does not decide a cat’s merit on title of duty, but rather the making of their character. I never want another cat to feel the way I did, to feel wrong for not being able to choose one side or the other, in duties...and in kinship. To feel better or worse than the cats around them for being in one rank over the other.” He admitted, the muted pain in his eyes as prevalent as when he had been a young apprentice, too torn to choose which path he was supposed to take.

Swiftstar dipped his head in respect to Blacktail "You were the perfect cat for the job Blacktail, and I will never be able to repay you for how much you taught me, and how much your guidance has shaped WindClan for the better." He took a moment to clear his throat before continuing on. "I never saw myself in this position either, but I think for you that was one of your greatest strengths. You didn't expect the title of deputy, and that's what allowed you to lead with such humble wisdom. There are many cats in the forest who want to be deputy...but that's exactly why they shouldn't be." He said.
"I promise that your replacement will be someone you will be proud to have as your successor." He said, tapping his tail on the ground. "I have no interest in a downgrade of quality when it comes to my deputy."

There are many cats to choose from, dedicated Warriors who would fit the job wonderfully. I have faith that this time will be your last time, for choosing your deputy. In the meanwhile, I do want to still help, until leafbare ends at least. I may not be able to head the larger tunneling projects like I used to, but I can still dig until we’re recovered enough...and, well, I need to speak with my mate and kits, as well.” He admitted, glancing back at the den entrance. “I only hope the clan will understand why I must step down.”

Roostkit blinked, still getting used to the world around him. He could see his brother and sisters and mother, and sometimes his father. The young kit stared up at Soulspirit, tilting his head. "Mama?" He squeaked.
"Shh!" Bouncekit complained, trying to snuggle into his mother's fur farther.

Her eyes were wide with excitement, as Stonepath followed after her, his steps more calm and slow. He looked up towards Sagefoot though, a small grin passing his muzzle. “Did you think we wouldn’t tag along? It’s rare to get time together...Shall we make the best of it?”

Larkpaw moved to her sister, headbutting her should gently. “Isn’t this exciting? All together in the tunnels!”

Sagefoot nodded, both grateful for the suggestion but saddened that she couldn’t be near her beloved tom. “I have great faith in them, but I would feel better if we don’t have any stragglers”
Larkpaw nervously padded forward in the tunnel, “It’s so dark in here!”

Morningkit was slowly opening her own eyes, looking around the nursery slowly.

Stonepath followed his daughters, making sure he could hear and sense them at all times. He hummed in response to his mate. “Seems that they’re too nervous about the dark to run off.” He teased.
