Meadowbrook peered down quickly, her eyes watching with rapt attention for a moment at the sight of the moor-runner’s dying struggles. She had never seen anything like it, how fast the flames could consume even a warrior as strong and as seemingly untouchable as her. She could only stare for a moment, listening to the shouts and hisses, the fighting of the swift warrior, before a voice in her snapped for her to get her bearings in order, before she herself would be caught in the flames. She glared down at the fire once more, before turning.
She glanced to where Cheetahheart had been looking, her eyes widening in realization. The boulder...she would never be able to run as fast or jump as high as Cheetahheart could, but if she could just get a running start...getting back to camp or one of the nearest secure tunnels could be the best shot out of here.

Swiftstar's eyes snapped open as he realized he was underground. Digging furiously, he managed to claw his way up and out of the collapsed tunnel. He staggered, breathing heavily. Smoke still filled the air as the fire continued to roar. It took him a few moments to catch his breath, but when he did he slowly began to make his way towards highstones, exhausted, sore, and grief-stricken.

Harewhisker hurried across the moors, ears back and eyes narrowed. He squinted through the growing smoke, mind scrambling for where Dashclaw might be.

Swiftstar was heading towards the temporary high stones camp, his heart and body still sore. In the distance through the smoke he saw movement. Squinting he saw the outline of a cat. "Hello?" he called out to the figure. "Who's still out here? Do you need help?" He began to bound towards the figure, realizing as he neared that it was Harewhisker.

"Swiftstar?" Harewhisker blinked at the sound of the leader's voice. When he spotted him through the smoke, Harewhisker ran over. "Swiftstar! Thank StarClan you're alright!"

Swiftstar looked at his clanmate, confused "Are you coming....from highstones? What happened? Is the clan okay?" Harewhisker looked unharmed, which was reassuring. "Why are you back out here?"

Harewhisker flattened his ears, lightly wincing that his leader caught him out here. "It's Dashclaw." Harewhisker frowned and glanced away. "He hasn't made it to highstones yet.

Swiftstar nodded understandingly. "Well let's not waste time chatting. He has to be out here somewhere." Turning to scent the air, he coughed when he breathed in nothing but smoke.

"I think he might be in the tunnels." Harewhisker stepped beside his leader. "Dashclaw never could navigate them well, I wouldn't be surprised if he got himself lost."

Swiftstar nodded. "That would make sense...he wouldn't be the only cat to have sought refuge in them." His mind drifted back to Cloverleaf and he flicked his ear to dismiss it. He had other things to worry about. "Be careful though. The fire is causing some of these tunnels to collapse."

Harewhisker looked solemnly at Swiftstar. If the fire was causing the tunnels to collapse, then Dashclaw could already be... He shook his head, he couldn't think of that now. There was a tunnel entrance nearby. He had to see if he could find his brother. Harewhisker started off through the flames, searching for that tunnel entrance.

Swiftstar followed closely behind Harewhisker, letting the tunneler take the lead. Though it was hard to admit it, he was afraid. He had just lost a life in a tunnel and going back in....well it wasn't exactly on the top of his bucket list. Forcing himself to push the fear aside he continued forward. He was given nine lives to protect and care for his clan, and if he had to lose all of them in this fire, then that's what he would do.

When they reached the tunnel's entrance, Harewhisker looked back at Swiftstar, knowing the leader had never been a tunneler. "I could go alone. You shouldn't put yourself at risk down there."

Swiftstar shook his head at Harewhisker. "I have many lives to spare, and it's my job to do as much as I can to save my clanmates...we've lost too many already I'm not going to let anymore die while I can help it." Ge gazed determinedly at the gaping tunnel. "I'm coming with you."

Harewhisker flicked his ear again, but nodded, knowing he couldn't convince the leader otherwise. "Stay close." Without another word, he slipped into the tunnel.

Swiftstar ducked in behind Harewisker, keeping a tails-length behind him. Smoke poured into his eyes and he closed them. It was too dark for him to see any.

Swiftstar followed after Harewhisker, keeping his ears pricked for any sound of Dashclaw. He grew worried as every second passed without a reply from the moor-runner turned tunneler. He's been training as a tunneler for moons now he thought, gritting his teeth. Maybe he's found another way out?

"Dashcla--" Harewhisker cut off at the faint sound of something through the tunnels. "Did you hear that?" He asked Swiftstar. "I think that was Dashclaw!" He sudden ran ahead.

Swiftstar gritted his teeth. "Harewhisker wait!" He called out. "These tunnels aren't stable! We need to be careful." He boundeded after the tom, forcing his feat down every time his pelt brushed the sides of the tunnel.

Harewhisker flattened his ears, knowing his leader was right. He slowed down, coughing from the smoke that infiltrated the tunnel.
"Somebody! Help me!" A cry shouted from somewhere in the tunnels.

Swiftstar's ears pricked towards the noise. "Dashclaw! We're coming!" he yowled, trying to sound calm, and not like the smoke was streaming into his throat, dirt was raining on his pelt, and fear was bubbling just beneath the surface. Catching up to Harewhisker, he let the more experienced tom lead the way.

"Dashclaw!" Harewhisker sped ahead, but slowed when he finally reached his brother. The scent of dirt and smoke filled the air.
"Harewhisker?! Is that you?!"
"And Swiftstar too. What were you doing rabbit-brain?! Why didn't you come to highstones?!"
"My paw is stuck!" Sheer panic filled Dashclaw's voice, his every other breath was a cough. The tunnels opened up to a three way split. Dashclaw was laying on his stomach, his back left leg buried beneath a pile of dirt from where his section of the tunnel collapsed. "Please! Help me!"

Swiftstar padded forward. "Don't worry Dashclaw, we'll get you out of here." He assured before glancing at Harewhisker. "What's the best way to do this without collapsing the tunnel further?" He asked, keeping his voice as calm as possible.

"We'll have to repact the tunnel as we dig him out, strengthen it's walls and ceiling." Harewhisker weaved around his brother to study the extent of the collapse. "Dashclaw, what were you doing in this tunnel? This isn't the route the other tunnels took to Highstones."
Dashclaw flattened his ears and actually lowered his head. "I...I got lost...I thought the tunnelers went this way, but I lost their scent and when I backtracked..." He visibly shuddered. "I...I couldn't find my way..."

Swiftstar nodded at Harewhisker's words and began to carefully dig some dirt away from Dashclaw's paw, and moved it over to repack the wall nearest to him. "We'll talk about this later Dashclaw." He said. "Right now we need to focus on getting you out. This isn't the only tunnel that's collapsed." Hopefully our way back won't be gone when we try and leave he thought, his ears flattening at the thought.

Dashclaw only bobbed his head in reply to Swiftstar. He gave gentle tugs on his leg every now and then to see if it had loosened.
"Don't jerk your paw out." Harewhisker's tone grew strict with his brother. "You should know that, Dashclaw, jerking your leg out could shift the tunnel and cause it to collapse on us!"

Swiftstar flicked his ears in annoyance. Sure Dashclaw should know this by now? He'd been training as a tunneler for moons! "Now isn't the time for a tunneling lesson Harewhisker. Dashclaw just stay still." His tone was unusually snippy for him, but between the stress of the fire, losing his daughter, losing a life, and now being back in the tunnels, he could feel fear, anger, and grief all bubbling below the surface. He pushed it down.
