Aedan smiled at his friend's kind comment, and began to lead the way through the darkness. They entered into a particularly dark and wide passage, which Aedan recognised to be the passage to the burial grounds. Damianos stove off the pain that throbbed in his leg, focusing instead on his friend; Aedan was his new goal- to liberate him from his chains. He examined the area closely with worry, following Aedan down it, keeping one hand on the wall so he wouldn't slip or walk into anything in the darkness. 'Is this tunnel usually guarded?' He murmured, listening closely for anything that might indicate danger.

Aedan shrugged "I don't know, but probably. Just keep as quiet as possible and we'll soon see what happens. What we don't want to do is attract a patrol"

Damianos nodded and continued to walk, his gaze keen and sharp as he watched for danger. He felt adrenaline in his body again, the pain in his leg leaving. He peered around a corner and winced as he saw two guards. He turned to face Aedan, raising his eyebrows in question; what did the other male want to do?

Aedan just made a signal for Damianos to wait. He peered round himself and gauged the situation. These guards both had weapons, and Aedan and Damianos were newly unarmed. Which meant that they would have to try and catch these guards by surprise.
He made a signal for Damianos to follow him and follow his lead. The Celt ran quickly and lightly, not making a sound on the stone floor. Once he was behind the guards he swept his leg across, whipping the guards' legs out from yonder Thames and sending the unaware pair crashing to the stone floor. Their helmets saved their lives but did not stop them from going unconscious.
"We'll take their swords" He murmured quietly "in case there are any more"

(I assume that was meant to say from 'under them' and I apologise now because I'm laughing so hard that I'm crying)
Damianos stared with wide eyes, extremely impressed by Aedan's actions. 'That was-' he began to say, then shook his head, ignoring his weird attraction to the man kicking-butt. He walked out and scooped up a weapon, then smiled up at Aedan widely. 'We can do this.' He nodded, continuing on their way, excitement swelling in his chest now instead of apprehension.

(OMG that's the best thing ever. It's because I am busy decorating the tree and didn't have time to check. Haha I'm not even sorry that was the best thing.)
Aedan laughed, picking up the other sword and leading the way out of that part of the corridor before then guards could come to.
"You can do that to anyone so long as they aren't paying attention. Don't look too impressed, it was a heat of the moment thing"

'We're going to do this,' he thought to himself. (Are we going to have them escape, or not, for a little more drama? )

(How about we let them get caught, and then we can have them escape later in the RP? I had a great idea.... we could have them caught; they're whipped for punishment; and then for further punishment, they take Damianos away. They meet maybe two years later; Damianos and Aedan in armour and helmet, unrecognisable... they are pit against each other in the coliseum, only the crowd and the 'masters' knowing that the two are friends, the two completely oblivious until they start to fight each other and recognise each other's style)

(Yaaaas I like the way you think)
They were almost there. The heavy air of the underground had begun to lift into something lighter and crisper. The tunnel was getting brighter with each corner. They couldn't be far now. They must be getting so close.

(Yaaaas I like the way you think) They were almost there. The heavy air of the underground had begun to lift into something lighter and crisper. The tunnel was getting brighter with each corner. They couldn't be far now. They must be getting so close. Damianos released a shaky breath, and looked at Aedan, placing a hand on his arm. He leaned around another corner, saw light. 'We're almost there.' He whispered to him, turning the corner carefully and starting to walk. As he looked back at Aedan he felt something akin to love swell his chest- he was going to get him out of here. He wouldn't let him fight in that damnable place any longer. He gripped his sword tightly, glancing around, listening closely for danger- as he strained his ears, he heard footsteps, and signalled to Aedan what he'd heard.

Aedan froze as he heard the footsteps echoing along the stone floors and getting closer and closer. Multiple ones. He indicated silently to keep moving, but he also heard footsteps coming from the other direction.
"They've trapped us," He growled, swearing profusely.

'Like we did in the arena.' He said, looking at him. 'Let me take front. We'll tear through the group in front before the group behind reaches us.' He took a few deep breaths to calm himself- he'd have to be more careful not to get injured this time.

Aedan nodded, but was trying to hold back his concerns about his friend's leg. They didn't have ti e for trying to change things.
So Aedan raised his own weapon as the group of guards rounded the corner.
"Ah," one guard chuckled when he caught sight of Aedan "still not given up after five years? That's not determination, that's stupidity"
Aedan took a deep breath, trying not to let himself get too riled up as he looked to Damianos to take the lead

'I'm your opponent.' Damianos growled at the guards, before suddenly recognising one of them. A wide grin spread across his lips. 'Didn't I bite your ear off in Greece?' He asked. The guard squeaked and backed off, eyes wide as he recognised him. 'Watch that one,' he warned the others. 'Took five of us to take him down, and another three to get him onto the ship.' Damianos smirked. 'Damn right it did. And that was before I had any training.' He cracked his neck and settled into a low stance. 'Ready?' He murmured to Aedan, the guards swiftly approaching them.

"Ready" came Aedan's reply, low and angry and determined.
And the two launched into battle, but both had with them a new ferocity. Whether this newfound anger would help them in fighting so many guards remained to be seen, but Aedan couldn't help but feel that their odds were low

Damianos cut through the group as they ran at him with ease, and then he began to struggle to fight off multiple weapons which came at him. Before had been weaponless- they'd taken him down with fists. This was different. He grunted as the flat of a blade slammed into his stomach, but managed to take out one of them in return. He swung to keep an eye on Aedan, determined to keep him safe. He saw an opening, cut down another- and then he saw the real opening. Freedom calling, the doorway unguarded for their escape- he gasped and released a choked shout of alarm as a blade was placed at his throat, and another at his stomach. 'Aedan go!' He shouted, desperate for his friend to escape. 'Don't let this be for nothing!'

Aedan heard his friend's shout and looked towards the entrance. He could go, if he wanted to. Damianos had told him he should.
"No," Aedan said "No compromises, remember. All or nothing."
Aedsn refused to leave his friend like this, and proceeded to jump into the fight all the more ferociously. But it seemed that every time he got a blade away from either his or Damianos' necks it was replaced by another.
Soon it was all over - the soldiers from behind arrived and the pair were surrounded. Aedan could feel the cool point of a blade at his back while another rested at his throat.

Aedan could feel the cool point of a blade at his back while another rested at his throat. Damianos felt everything slip away at once. He'd failed his mother- now he'd failed his friend. Feeling a deep hurt in his chest, he couldn't bring himself to even look at Aedan, keeping his gaze locked on the floor as they were marched back to their hold. He didn't fight at all as they shoved him into his cell, forced him to his knees and chained him up, his eyes dull. He'd lost his minor freedom in the hold, too. 'We'll come get you for your punishment in the morning.' Said one of the trainers to the two, before examining Damianos. 'I think I prefer you down there on your knees.' He said, noting as Damianos barely reacted. 'I like you even better without the hope in your eyes.' He added, a sadistic smirk on his lips. He shot a disappointed and angry glare at Aedan, then turned and left them in silence and alone.

While one trainee was harassing Damianos, the other was doing the same to Aedan.
"I should have you killed, for all of this. You're more trouble than you're worth. Count yourself lucky that the crowd likes foreigners. Just watch it, barbarian, because one day the crowd will no longer find you exotic. Your luck will run out, and then you'll be just like any other dispensable slave."
They were then left in silence. Aedan sat like it was his first day in bondage, in chains, kneeling and with his blond head bowed.
"I'm sorry," He said at last "I should have known it was a bad idea. And you wanted me to leave. I should have. I could have left and come back for you."

Damianos listened in silence as Aedan was harassed, and closed his eyes when it was silent. He did not react when Aedan spoke, only tried to ignore his aching heart and failures. 'save your strength.' he eventually murmured, only tired resignation in his voice. 'you'll need it.' The loss of his mother, their capture, and Aedan's lost freedom appeared to have finally broken the Greek's spirit.

Aedan sighed "It doesn't take any strength to endure pain. But what we did today took a lot more strength than anything they can throw at us. Don't let this break you, Damianos. These five years have broken me a lot more than it seems, so don't make the mistakes I did and let it break you. I have lived five years in bondage, and I can just as well live another five, so do not feel guilty for me. I feel guilty for you. I knew what was going to happen and, like an idiot, I led us into it anyway. I let us get our hopes up. It's my fault. I broke a promise I made to myself years ago that I would never let myself get my hopes up ahain"

'Be quiet, Aedan.' He replied, feeling all the worse for the other male's apologies. 'let me mourn.' He settled down in his cell, reflecting on all he'd been through- how he'd come to be here. He cast a silent prayer up to his Pantheon to protect him once more in his challenges to come; and then cast a second prayer to Hades to let his mother- and the gladiator he'd killed- into the underworld. He released a deep sigh, closing his eyes. He focused on the pain in his thigh now to distract him from his friend and his thoughts, and soon felt himself slip into sleep.
They were rudely awoken the next morning and dragged to their feet, unchained, and taken outside. 'You're to be whipped.' One of the trainers said, looking at Aedan. 'Fifty lashes. An extra ten every time you run your mouth, so I suggest you stay quiet and deal with it.' The two trainers tied them to the whipping posts, which were set a few meters apart. Damianos closed his eyes, heart thudding in his chest as they cut open his shirt from the back- a chorus of laughter rung from the group that were watching. 'The Greek's already been on the receiving end of a whip, it seems. Was it your mummy, boy?' One of them shouted. Damianos growled, eyes immediately opening. He glared sideways at whom had spoken. It had actually been his father- punishment whenever he'd spoken against him, or stolen food. He hated the lace of white scars that marred his back. He'd tried his hardest to avoid anyone seeing them when he'd got here.
Eventually the group settled down, and he tried to relax his muscles, knowing the tenser you were the worse the injury would be. He clenched his teeth. Then he heard the familiar whistle of a whip, and jolted as it stung his back- he didn't cry out. He refused to give them the pleasure of hearing his pain.

Aedan too was a veteran of whipping, and it brought no comments from the group. Everyone knew that Aedan had been there longer than anyone and had suffered more lashes than most others, so to point out this would be pointless.
Aedan felt material being sliced from his back, and he heard the familiar intake of breath of the group watching as they waited to see the reaction of the first lashes.
The first few were never so bad, but soon enough the whip was going hard and fast enough to slice deeply.
By about the tenth lash, Aedan was keeping his back relaxed and taking deep breath, but it soon became apparent that they really were hurting him. These deep breaths became ragged as he struggled to keep his breathing even. He made nigh on no sound, just a sharp exhale.
But with each lick of the whip it would get more painful, would become harder to prevent himself from crying out.
