"Yes," Aedan replied, admittedly a little pleased to see something childlike returning to Ciar "We met about seven or eight years ago, in Rome. I'd already been a slave for five years, and Damianos was a newcomer, a couple of years younger than me. We tried to escape but failed and as punishment we were flogged and then separated for two years. We finally met again later when his master took me in. But then my old master sought revenge and Damianos and I fled here along with our master and two other gladiators. Our master freed us and we returned here, where I became chief."

Ciar listened with perfect intent quiet, examining Aedan as he spoke. 'I see...' he replied, looking over at Damianos. 'Do you love him?' He asked, blinking back up at Aedan. 'If you get married, will that make Damianos the wife, since you're the chief?' He continued, grinning widely with amusement at the thought of huge-bear-Damianos playing the role of a housewife.

"Yes, we love each other very much," Aedan smiled to the boy before bursting into laugher at the wife comment - it was a pretty funny images, he had to admit, and he couldn't help himself "I suppose it would, but then Damianos is the leader of the Lykos, isn't he, so that makes us both chiefs. I guess it doesn't matter if we're both chiefs."

Slowly Ciar frowned, then nodded and looked away, apparently satisfied with Aiden's answer. Noticing his mother leaving the camp, he looked up at him. 'Could you please put the ointment on my wounds?' He politely requested, haven not had the chance this morning, due to his mother requesting he go fish. Damianos looked over at them and winked. 'I'll be fine. Come rescue me later or something, I'll just keep an eye on the builders as they get started on the house.' Ciar smiled shyly at the bear-man in the cage, then glanced back at Aiden again as he got to his feet and got ready to go.

"Oh, right, of course," Aedan replied with a smile before turning to Damianos "Don't worry, I won't be too long. I'll let you out before the kids start doing anything they shouldn't."
The tall, lithe blond stood up to go with Ciar. He wouldn't be very long, he didn't think. He felt bad for Ciar, and he wasn't sure he felt exactly ready to see the teenager's scars again. It brought a lot of memories back for him, as fresh as if they were yesterday. Sure, Damianos was 19 when he came into slavery and Aedan had been 18 when he did and so there wasn't so much difference, but he still felt like their experiences were quite different and he wasn't sure how much Damianos understood. But would Ciar understand?

Ciar silently led the way, still walking tall despite the fact he should logically be bent over with pain. He headed into Aedan's hut and sat down patiently in front of the fire pit, removing his shirt and quietly running a finger through the ashes to create small pictures as he waited for Aedan to get started. Ciar still wasn't sure how to feel about his current situation and the people he was now with. He was still wary of the strangers, but felt like he could trust Aedan and his partner, Damianos, and he could see that Mordred had already befriended Esca, so he supposed they would be alright here. It was just a matter of him learning how to fit in and finding a place among this tribe; he still wasn't exactly sure what job he wanted yet, and so he needed to do some exploring. At the age of 16 he should already either be training to be a warrior or finding himself a useful apprenticeship in the clan. He found himself vaguely wondering if they had crafters- people to create offerings for the gods, or maybe... he hesitantly glanced back at Aedan, then away again, not feeling quite ready to ask. He wasn't sure if he wanted to try his hand at medicine and healing. He felt it may be the correct profession for his soft heart, and decided that he'd think it over first, and then go and see the tribes healer to speak to her about it.

When Aedan opened the salve, he looked at it and let out a sigh of relief "Oh, good, this is a good salve. Some salves sting and are very painful, but this one should be fine."
He spread some of the salve gently onto the wounds. He had plenty of experience of these wounds and he knew how they should be dealt with to make the healing of the wounds as quick and painless as possible.
"If it is any consolation," he began "these are very clean wounds, and they will heal quickly. Whoever whipped you knew what they were doing"
Aedan knew what he was talking about. An inexperienced whipper not only caused more pain, but their wounds were messier and took longer to heal. Neither of these were good. So at least Aedan knew that Ciar's whipper was experienced and knew what they were doing. It could have been so much worse for him.

'It was the eldest brother.' Ciar replied, not a single tremour in his voice as he spoke. 'Mordred yelled at him and I could see him getting stressed. They were going to take him away and do it but I took them instead and told them to add twenty for the inconvenience.' He gazed quietly at the pit, drawing a crow into the ash as he shrugged, wincing as the movement pulled at the wounds. 'I'd do it myself, but I can't reach.' He said, glancing over his shoulder and giving Aedan a shy grin.

"Don't worry about it," Aedan smiled in return "I've dealt with a lot of these over the years and I'm very experienced with them so you're probably better off me doing them anyway. I used to get a lot when I was about eighteen and nineteen. Within my first months of captivity I tried to escape a lot, and they whipped me. And I got whipped for doing something the Celtic way and not the Roman way or for speaking my language or for forgetting some obscure rule of Roman manners. It was very selfless of you to take your brother's lashes for him"

'He's my little brother.' Ciar said, blinking at him. 'You would do the same for your sisters.' He looked away, then politely bandaged himself up once Aedan was done and replaced his shirt. 'So... what languages can you speak?' Ciar curiously asked, shuffling away to fold his legs beneath him and tilt his head.

"Well I was just sort of expected to learn Latin, but I also learned bits of other languages like Greek from the other gladiators, so quite a few, actually" Aedan replied as he put the balm away ready for the next day.

'So... a lot then.' Ciar replied, nodding. 'Damianos is Greek, isn't he?' He asked. 'Ma said he's a demigod, like her.' He smiled widely and straightened slightly. 'We're called legacies. I thought it sounded cool when I was younger, but now I think it just sounds like we're already dead and gone.' A frown furrowed his brow. 'You should make something to outlive you.' He reasoned.

"Yeah, Damianos is Greek," Aedan replied "They had a fight getting him on the boat, I can tell you. And I agree with you, by the way, about building something to outlive you. I want to do that, it's just taking me a long time to find out what that thing should be."

Ciar hummed lightly with curiosity and began to look thoughtful. 'How do you want to be remembered?' He curiously asked. 'That's the first step to leaving your footprint in the earth. If you can work that out, maybe you'll figure it out quicker.' He smiled up at him warmly.

"Yes, I know where she is. She'll be where she always is at parties." Lucien replied "Come with me, you can talk to her. But if I get a whiff of anything…"
Lucien began to lead the other man to where she would be - with Aedan.
____
"The latter," Aedan replied "I ate earlier, though, so it's okay. I'm just trying to survive the duration of this party without catching anyone's attention, to be honest with you. I'd rather not be sold off for the night. It's not a great experience"[/quote]
"Dont tell the lady's that," She giggled into her glass, "You've already caught most of their attention but they wont touch you while im in this party, apparently im scary." She giggled then waved to her striking black dress and silver sash that was now draped over her shoulders. She tipped her head back finishing the glass of wine, she frowned when she looked at the empty glass.

What about you, Ciar, what do you want to be remembered for?"

"I don't think you're scary," Aedan smiled "But if you being here keeps these ladies away from me I would be rather grateful if you stay here with me for the remainder of the evening" he joked.
She was so nice to him, Aedan had to admit. And so funny. How could anyone ever think that she was in any way scary? She was gentle and sweet and funny but also witty and intelligent,

Ciar blinked up at him, then grinned. 'I haven't done anything yet! I'm only 16.' He looked away, playing with a thread on his shirt. 'I suppose I just want to be remembered for me.' He smiled up at him. 'I'm not even bothered if I'm forgotten. I'll have been with my family, and I know I've done some good things, and that makes me happy as I am.'

"Ah, but your age is the best time to think about these things," Aedsn responded with a smile "because you have so much time to shape your life into anything you want it to be. I know if I had thought about it when I was a teenagers, I might not have given up so easily back in Rome. I would have had something to hold onto. Maybe you need something to hold onto too, for when times get hard. I know I would have wanted it all those years ago"

Ciar blinked and looked curiously up at Aedan, tilting his head slightly as the elder Celt spoke. 'Hold onto?' He curiously questioned, not quite understanding what Aedan meant. Frowning, he looked back at the fire pit. 'Do you think the healer will let me train under her?' He finally asked. 'I know it's not really a mans job, but I feel I might be good at it.'

"I mean something to keep you strong. To stop you from giving up."
When he asked about being trained by the medic, he nodded "Don't worry about it, I'm sure she'll train you. She won't mind. And don't worry about it not being a 'man's' job. It isn't important, you can do whatever you want to do'

She smiled and pushed her sash up to rest on her shoulders, "According to them im terrifying. News of my sparring has gotten around... and my recent... altercation with the board of sanitation, engineering committee and my mother..." she tipped her head up thinking then her gaze widened with a bright smile, "And of course the argument with Livius! Everyone but you Lucien and Willa have been walking on eggshells around me... apparently I have the temper off a rabid dog..." she rolled her eyes.

Smiling widely, Ciar nodded and slowly got to his feet, wincing slightly. 'You should probably go make sure the kids haven't killed your boyfriend.' He said, before heading out, looking much more relaxed than before. He headed straight for the shack where the medical woman lived, intent on getting started and gaining her acceptance. ((Sorry I took so long x))
