Just as the title says - a quick, simple, jump-in Christmas floof. I will be playing female, and if you wouldnt mind playing a male, that would be much appreciated!
Anyways - quick plot line guide! Girl and guy are best friends - guy wants to ask out girl durring Christmas. Simple as that, do with it as you wish. I am not normally one for simple floof, but, wel,, we all need a little floof here and there.
Anyways, onwards with the show!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Killian, or as friends call her Ki-Ki (Key-Key), sat alone at a table outside of a coffee shop. With a pair of fluffy black earmuffs over her ears, flecked with bits of the falling snow, and a sty lick coat with the hood lined with plush fur, Ki-Ki cupped her portable coffee mug in her gloved hands. Of course, it wasnt coffee - no, Ki-Ki wasnt the coffee kind of girl. It was mint cocoa, her favorite part of the Christmas season. Her her shockingly bright blue hair pulled up into a messy bun, one would think she would have a rebels spirit - but it was quite the opposite actually.
Ki-Ki was a quiet, friendly girl who appreciated her friends, and said "Please" and "Thank you" appropriately - even if she apologized a bit too much. Slender with decent curves, she often wore soft skinny jeans or yoga pants. Today, she had opted for a pair of dark blue skinnies, the hems tucked into her soft, stylish boots with fur trim. She wore a pretty, cream-colored long sleeve button-up shirt under her thin-but-warm coat, she looked around for her best friend. With black eyeliner with small, sharp wings tapering at the end, the almond shape of ehr eyes was accented against her clear, cream skin. The black mascara lightly coating her lashed brought out the minty green of her irises, and her lips were colored slightly with strawberry chapstick.
She tapped her feet contentedly under the little table, feeling the thin layer of snow underfoot. It rarely snowed this little durring the winter here, and she was enjoying the thin sheet of white. Much better than being trapped in her house!
She looked up as she saw her best friend head their way towards her, and her face lit up with a happy smile. "Fancy seeing you here!"
There was a lot of things that Rafe hated in the world, but one of the biggest things had to be inconveniences. Snow was one them, far too cold and too wet for his liking. It was moments like these that he wished his jacket had a hood, but the light pullover would have to be enough until he could get home and find something warmer. He was thankful his boots had enough traction to keep him on his feet. His normal canvas shoes would have sent him to the ground by now.
He needed coffee desperately. He had been working nonstop recently, easy to tell by the dark circles that were beginning to form under his eyes and the way his normally neat brown hair fell to the side, looking slightly disheveled. Although he always kept to his appearance, it wasn't a surprise to see him so out of it. There was always at least one day a month where he overworked himself. It was simply how he was. There was always this desire to prove himself, and he would always keep going until he reached his goal. It made people keep their distance from him, unwilling to get caught up in whatever he was doing. It didn't help that he was slightly rude and disrespectful, choosing to speak his mind most of the time instead of sparing someone's feelings. He was... irritating to be around on his best days, but he still tried to be someone that people would actually like. His charisma was one of the only things that kept people around.
Kiki caught his eyes as she spoke up, and Rafe found a light smile appearing on his face. Given how he naturally was, he would have expected someone like her to be driven away from him, but instead she was the person he called his closest friend. Someone he enjoyed spending time with. It didn't make sense to him, but the world rarely did make sense. It was one of the few things he wasn't going to question.
"Hey," he responded simply, moving so the snow was no longer falling onto him. For a moment, he stood there awkwardly, lost at words by her sudden appearance. He hadn't been expecting to see anyone while he was out, let alone her. "Quite the day, huh? What are you drinking?"
(Sorry that took so long. :c How old would you say they are? )
No worries, my friend. Take your time, there is no rush. :) Oh, i would say... late teens, perhaps?)
Ki-Ki grinned, leaning back in her chair carefully - she was always one to be bubbly and happy, even in the coldest mornings like this day. She beamed and looked up at the sky, pulling a face as the snow landed on her eyelashes, "Yeah, it's lovely. It's a pity you hate it so much, Rafe. Mint cocoa," She said, plopping all four legs of her chair back down and standing up to greet him properly. She tuttered, setting down her mint cocoa and pulling off her gloves, setting them on the table and cupping his face in her hands, rnning her thumbs over the dark circles under his eyes. "Lad, you're going to g to far one day with your duties and pass out," She said, brows creasing with worry as she took in his appearance.
She tuttered again worriedly, pulling back her hands and pulling on her gloves once more. "You need to relax once in a while, mate. For the sake of your health. Come come, coffee await you." She pulled another face, taking him by the arm and guiding him inside the coffee shop. She pulled her earmuffs off her ears and held them in her hand, fiddling with them at her side. "I don't see how you can drink such a drink," She poked fun lightly, bumping him softly with her hip. "Tastes like grandpappis attempt at goulash," she grinned uup at him, then released him to order his prized coffee. She stood to the side, humming along with a tune stuck in her mind, people-watching until her friend returned with his death-in-a-cup.
(OK. ^.^ Then I won't worry about him being in high school or anything. )
Rafe turned his face up towards the sky, and although he was still covered by the awning over the door, his nose scrunched up in annoyance, finding the mere sight of the snow to be too much for him "You know me too well," he replied, amusement shining in his eyes as he turned back to her. When she reached up to his face, he resisted the urge to pull out of her touch, something he would have done if anything tried to get close to him like that. He knew he was a sight to see at the moment, and hoping that he wouldn't run into anyone he knew.
"I think you just worry too much," Rafe said, shoving his hands into his jean pockets as they made their way inside, hoping to warm them up. I haven't passed out yet, and I don't think I ever will. Trust me when I say that I'll be fine. Working is relaxing to me... to an extent." As he got to the front of the line, he broke away from Kiki, moving up to the register to get what he wanted. His drink always consisted of enough sugar and espresso to give an elephant a heart attack, giving the drink a sweet and bitter taste simultaneously. He grabbed the drink from the man without a 'thank you', taking a sip without waiting for it to cool down in the slightest as he made his way back to her. "I never understood how you don't like this. It's probably one of the best things I've ever had in my life. Not to mention that it's the only reason I'm awake right now.
"You could probably use yourself as a car engine if you drink enough," Was all Ki-Ki replied with, turning to the man who made the coffee and inclining her head as a 'thank you' in Rafes place. "And I don't worry too much, you just don't care enough," She stated matter-of-factly, "About your health, mind you, mate," She took the last sip of her mint cocoa and hooked her arm through Rafes again, an action that had become a habit this past year.
"Besides," She stuck her tongue out at him a little, rather childishly, with a playful glint in her minty eyes. "I doubt you'd get any reset at all if i didnt prod you to bed." She unhooked his arm and skipped ahead a few paces, shuffling some snow with her boots happily. Her earmuffs found their place over her ears once more as they made their way down the street, Ki-Ki coming back to Rafes side and taking his arm again casually. She was quiet for a moment, pondering about something or other - per haps her newest book idea, or song lyrics to write? Guitar notes to strum? No, it turned out to be; "Besides, i'm sure you'd be awake if i accidentally pushed you into a massive snowdrift." She grinned up at him, the mischievous glint in her eyes shining through again.
Rafe stuck his tongue back out at her, the action something he would only do to someone close to him. "I worry about my health the right amount. There are more important things in life than 10 hours of sleep or a trip to the doctors for a cold. If you'll live, then you'll be fine." He took another swig of his drink as they walked, already halfway through it despite the short amount of time. On the matter of health, it was something he was sure was going to mess him up later in life, but he was too busy enjoying the benefits now to care about what issues his health would have.
When she unhooked her arm from his and moved ahead of him, he found his eyes watching her, turning softer as she kicked around some snow with her boots. Despite how much he disliked the snow and disliked being around people, there was something that drew him to be with her. Had anyone else attempted it, he would have shut them down and left to go back to his work. He didn't like her worrying, and he would take a break if it meant that she felt happier about it all.
As she turned back and hooked her arm into his again, his neutral expression returned, masking over any sort of fondness that he had just been showing. That look was on her face again, far off and deep in thought, and he resisted the urge to stare at her. When she starred to speak, he imagined it would be something off-topic about what she wanted to do, not - "Woah!" He turned to face her, a dark expression in his eyes that would normally startle a person. "Push me into the snow and I will make you regret every day from now until I die."
Ki-Ki mimicked his expression in a teasing manner, exaggerating the dark hooding of his eyes. "You will regret every day... until I DIE!" She mimed in a hilariously bad copy of his voice before her expressoin melted into her usual bright smile. "Come now, mate, you don't have the heart to do that." She paused, then added with a sly tone of voice, "You don't have the heart to do that to me, anyways." She giggled and bumped him lightly with her hip again.
"Your place or mine?" She asked afterwards, putting their previous banter back in her mind. "Although I must warn you - my paints are absolutely everywhere. I was busy last night," She added with a sheepish smile. Ki-Ki was very creative - which doomed her in her math courses in her last years of schooling. She played multiple instruments -including but not limited to piano and guitar - painted and drew, wrote novels, music, and short stories whenever she could. Her ideas were always poured out in her work, vivid and bright, sometimes mellow and deep; and at other times, downright terrifyingly dark.
She hummed a short tune to herself and released Rafes arm yet again to step up onto a low row of cinder blocks, lightly topped with snow, and carefully placed one foot in front of the other in an even line. Even up on a foot of blocks, she was a mere inch or two taller than Rafe. She noticed, and gave a victorious grin.
"You could at least give me the satisfaction of pretending my threats work on you," Rafe muttered quietly under his breath, faking irritation at Kiki's reaction. "And if you're going to mimic me, do it right. My voice is deeper than that. I honestly don't think you were trying." As her next comment processed in his mind, he found his heartbeat speeding up ever so slightly, hand gripping the coffee cup tighter before he managed to relax himself. He hated to admit it, but there was no lie in her sentence. He would fight anyone with no hesitation, but he couldn't imagine even raising his voice to her. It was a strange change to his usual demeanor.
Rafe took a sip of the coffee that was already getting cold due to the weather, thinking back to the state of his apartment. He lived in a mess as well, but more organized than what hers would be. Sketches measurements were placed all around the living room as well as his work space, giving it an overall cluttered look. He worked in art, doing graphic designing for anyone who was willing to hire him, which seemed to be more and more companies as the days went on. He was swamped in work, making it all appear worse than it normally would be.
Sometimes he felt it would have been better to simply stay in his family's business, but he knew he would have been driven insane.
"You're not going to let me just get back to work, are you?" He questioned, already knowing the answer. "You can come back to my place. I'm sure it's probably cleaner than your place is. Working on anything special this time?"
"Brontèi Inc. asked for a series of watercolor and oils," Ki-Ki chirped, raising her arms slightly from her sides as she felt her balance waver just a touch. Once she steadied herself, she hopped down from the concrete blocks, humming cheerfully as she skipped ahead, kicking up little snow piles as she went ahead, knowing Rafe hated stepping in the little drifts.
"And as for me not trying to mimic you properly, of course not! I make a scarier you than you do!" She tossed over her shoulder teasingly with a snicker, sticking her tongue out at him with a happy glint in her minty green eyes. "I probably won't let you get back to work either, anyways. You're stressed and tired, you need a break. At least a few hours." Ki-Ki was concerned, but she only dabbed a little of her worry down at a time, knowing he hated seeing her worry about him.
As for the mixed up answers, that was usual for Ki-Ki. With her scattered thoughts and rapidly turning ideas, she constantly mixed up the direction of the conversation, answering the last question before the first. At time, on days she really pumped out ideas, she missed entire paragraphs of speech. However, today was one of her lighter days, so she was her usual bright and bubbly self.
Soon enough, the pair had reached the entrance to Rafes home. Whisking off one of her gloves, Ki-Ki dipped her hand into Rafes pocket without hesitation, pulling out his keys so he wouldnt have to let go of the coffee cup and chill his hands again. Unlocking the front door, Ki-Ki pushed it open and removed the keys, flouncing inside in front of him and flipping the light switch to the place she considered a second home by now.
The snow was lighter than what the town was used to, but Rafe still found himself routinely brushing the snow out of his hair. There was a look of disgust that appeared on his face at the damp feeling it left in his hair, starting to clump together against his head, and he had to keep pushing it back off of his forehead. He couldn't wait to get back into his home where it was dry and warm, the thought of the heater causing him to wrap his fingers tighter around the cup to leech any sort of warmth into them.
"Tired? Yes. Stressed? N-... Fine. Yes." For a moment, he paused and watched her, deciding the best way to tell her that he wasn't going to let her stop him from getting his job done, something he would have told anyone else in that situation (Which he had before). As soon as he caught her eyes, however, he let out a sigh and faced his attention forward. "I need to send a file to a client. Then I'll take a break for a few hours. Only for you."
Rafe had just been getting ready to grab his keys when Kiki's hand was suddenly in his pocket, pulling them out before he even had a chance to move. He was used to it by now, sparing her no more than a dramatic eye roll before he was taking them back from her as they entered the apartment. "I should just get you your own key. Given how much time you spend here, it would probably be easier."
He closed the door behind him, taking a look around the small living space as he waited for his body to warm up. There were plans and drawings scattered across the glass coffee table, his laptop sitting in the middle of the mess still halfway through an email he had been sending. Moving forward, he dropped his keys and the coffee on the kitchen counter, only realizing now that he was away from his work that his sink was halfway full of dishes and that there were several pans still sitting on the stove. Feeling slightly embarrassed that he had completely forgotten about them, he decided to simply ignore it for now, heading over to the main area and sinking down onto the couch, his fingers automatically flying across the keyboard to finish typing out his email.
"I'll be done in a minute," Rafe told her, never really looking at her since he walked in. "I just... Need to..." He trailer off, focused intently as he began clicking through endless files on his desktop. When it came to working, he was rather scatterbrained towards anything else. Despite his previous claim, hr was suddenly away from the email, messing with a design he had been working on and frowning as he tweaked it, trying to find something he liked.
"Finish this," he finally said, completing the sentence he had trailed off on.
"My own key? You know i'd never leave," Ki-Ki piped, her cheerful sing-song voice brightening up the place. She grabbed a small heater and placed it next to Rafe, switching it on and letting him roast. Shedding her jacket and folding it over a chair, she began to do her routine - stack papers in relatable piles, easily accessed, swipe dirty dishes from various surfaces, the likes. By the time he finally got to finishing his sentance, she was already at the sink, running warm water over a few dishes.
"Y'know, mate, there are a few basic things in life people can't really live without. Food, water, the likes - but there are a few things people could do without, too." She said casually, scrubbing a pan lightly with a little plastic scrubbie in the warm water. She paused for a moment, patting down the pan and placing it in its respectful place before picking up two bottles that looked exactly the same by the sink, one of her brows quirked. "And one if those things you could live without is a bottle of bleach by your sink!" She said matter-of-factory, tucking the bleach back under the sink where it belongs. Before long, with her dish-washing skills, she had them all sorted out and put away, stick snickering at herself.
Ki-Ki kept looking over her shoulder at her best friend. She had grown close to this guy these past few years, that much was clear. However, what wasnt clear to her was a fluttering in her belly when she looked at him sometimes, when he was focused on something. His work, for sure - that intense look make her get all brushy, which is why she generally cleaned around his space to avoid watching him like a creep. Ki-Ki shook these thought sfrom her head, humming a tune she write the day before, and letting Rafe finish the design he was working on.
For a moment. After the last counter was wiped down, she shashayed over towards Rafe and took a gentle hold of the paper. This was a bit different than usual - she usually just swiped it away, giving a stubborn "Break time," reply. However, this time she eased it from his hand and pushed him back onto the couch, sitting next to him and laying the design on the coffee table. She looked over, concern creasing her brow, and reached over. She took his hand in her own, a motion done a thousand times before.
"Rafe," She said quietly, in a serious voice rarely used, "I'm serious when i say you need to calm down about your work. I understand it's important, and that there are deadlines - but there are just some times you need to turn away a job for a day to yourself. You need to rest too, you know," She gave a gentle smile, placing her hand on his face again, running her thumb over the shadow under his eye to make a point. "Just... please, be careful."
Rafe's eyebrows creased together as he stared at the design, quickly picking up an eraser and furiously attempting to start over. There was too much for him to do, and he was absolutely positive that if he didn't finish it, he would wind up behind schedule. He could get it done with enough time to take a break and keep Ki-Ki from worrying, but that would involve him working twice as hard as he normally would.
The sound of the sink running was simply background noise to him, and it didn't quite register that she was cleaning up his apartment once again, too focused on the task in front of him to realize what she was doing. "Yeah, I was using that for something," he commented offhandedly about the bleach, not really paying attention to what he was answering. "You can just leave it there."
Rafe had made significant progress, enough to show he'd been working, although he still thought that it wasn't enough. Just before he could touch the pencil to the paper once more, Ki-Ki had taken a hold of it, pulling it away from him and causing him to snap out of his work haze enough to look up at her, slightly annoyed that he had been stopped in the middle of his work. He opened his mouth to say something, reaching out to grab the paper from her when she spoke, causing him to freeze. The tone took him by surprise. All of his irritation suddenly melting away. Very rarely did he let anyone take control of what he was doing, but he let Ki-Ki push him back until he was leaning more comfortablely into the couch. The sight of the worry on his face caused him to turn away from her, eyes fixed on the wall instead.
"You worry too much," he told her, voice quieter than it normally would be. His gaze was hard, but there was a certain softness that glimmered in his eyes as he spoke, something that only appeared when he was with her. "Breaks don't earn money. I haven't collapsed yet. I'll be fine." He turned back to her now, looking deep in thought. When her thumb ran over his skin again, he found his heart rate pick up once more. He never knew how a simple touch could do that, but here he was, trying to even it out and keep his breath from catching in his throat.
He gave in. "What did you want to do?"
Ki-Ki ignored his last question, too concerned with what she saw. She swept a stray piece of hair from his face tenderly, a soft sadness in her eyes. "'I havent collapsed yet,'" she repeated softly, searching his gaze with worry that only built. "Yet," She said again, her faint accent thickening as she tried to control her emotions. "What if i did that?" She quietly asked, tracing the curve of his brow with ehr fingertips gently. "What if i stood at my easle until my vision blurred, until my hands shook? What if I came to you one day, with gray under my eyes, saying that I was fine? Not only that, but I claimed that because I haven't collapsed, I was okay?"
Her fingers traced along his jaw softly, cupping his face again tenderly. "Please, Rafe," She said, her tone almost begging - a tone she had never used before with him. "Please don't become so obsessed with your work that you loose everything else, right in front of you." Her hand squeezed his, worry clear in her expression. She was quiet for a small, shaky moment, before she let out a breath.
"I worry, yes," She said, "but i don't worry too much. I know you would be just as worried about me if I was doing what you're doing now. All I am asking you to do is slow down - take a day off once in a while. Get the sleep you need, proper food. Just... be safe alone." She let the last words drop, keeping quiet for another moment as she traced her thumb over the dark circles under his tired eyes.
After a moment, she let her hand drop, and the other to return by her side. Clearing her throat, she stood up - she was never one to delve into heartfelt speeches like that. "Anyways, I'm going to fetch a film from the closet. If i come back and see you with that design, i'm taking all your pencils. Again." And with that, she gave him one of her usual, cheerful grins and flounced into the hallway, humming softly.
He knew she was right. Rafe was certain he would lose it of he saw that she was starting to develop any of his terrible habits.
Before he met Ki-Ki, there was no one that ever really stayed around enough to actually consider that there might be something wrong with him. He'd picked up these habits long before he met Ki-Ki, and he was surprise she still stuck around after knowing that. Being around her definitely helped to keep him on the right track, and he was sure that he was in worse shape the first time she saw him like that than he was now. The progress was there, slowly but surely.
He reached up and took her hand from his face, but gave it a light squeeze before he dropped it. "Got it. Don't be afraid to take breaks." He knew that she was addressing more than just that, but he was never one for touching conversations. "Maybe we can go out to eat somewhere tonight. It's been a while since I've had anything decent."
When she left the room, he grabbed ahold of the paper again, although this time he placed in top of another pile on the table, stacking them together and getting up to drop them on the kitchen counter as well. Sitting back down, he finally let himself relax into the couch, leaning his head back top of it and closing his eyes momentarily. He was sure he could sleep if he wanted to, but he forced his eyes back open a second later, reaching over to grab the remote and turn the TV on.
A string of startled cursing came from the halway, followed by, "Aw c'mon- again?!"
Killian was on her tiptoes, reaching for a boxed DVD when the boxes haphazardly stacked on top collapsed, despite her careful removal. She huffed as a few fell into the top of her head, making her flinch. She sighed before kneeling down, stacking up the boxes with a swift hand, rising back up and putting them back into the closet in a more orderly fashion. She snickered at a thought through her mind, flouncing back into the room and crouching by the DVD player.
After the disc was in, she stood up and plopped onto the couch by Rafe, grabbing his arm and putting it around her shoulders as usual. "Going out sounds good tonight," She said absentmindedly, curling up against his side. She was a very touch-me-love-me person, but only for those she considered closest to her - so, Rafe and maybe her little sister, when she visited her family several hours away.
Resting her head on Rafes shoulder, she looked up at him. This close, one could just barely see some light semicircles under her eyes, hidden under a thin layer of concealer. Hers wasnt from lack of sleep or pressure from work, though - she just worried more and more. "You can rest, I don't mind," She said with a quirky smile, "I know you didn't get much sleep this week." She dominated the remote, pressing the play button. The screen flickered to life, quiet dialogue emitting from the speakers.
The crash startled Rafe, and he had started to stand to go make sure she was alright when she appeared from the hallway seeming as fine as she always did. "Did you drop the DVDs again?" He questioned, sitting back down and arching an eyebrow at her. "Maybe you should just let me get them from now on."
His arm wrapped around her shoulders with ease, and he pulled her closer to him as she curled into his side. With a few of his previous friends, he tried to avoid physical contact as much as possible. Rafe would move away from them on couches, walk a bit away from them if he felt they were standing too close, or glare at them if they tried to put a hand on him. When he first met Ki-Ki, he did exactly that, following the same routine he had with everyone else. Yet when she put her arm through his for the first time, he stuttered over his words until he finally simply shut his mouth and accepted it. From that moment, he had never told her 'no' when it came to this stuff.
"I'm not going to fall asleep," he told her, resting his head on top of hers. "I'll sleep when you leave." With the coffee table cleared off, he kicked his feet up onto it. It was the most comfortable position he had been in all day, and sitting with Ki-Ki was making him warm and relaxed. It wasn't his fault when his eyes started to slide closed after a few minutes, thumb still absentmindedly caressing her arm.
"No, those boxes need to learn a lesson!" Ki-Ki goofed, her usual mischievous smile quirking her lips. "I refuse to let them win this fight - I am their alpha." She closed her eyes and hummed happily as he rested his head on top of hers, resembling a purring cat in all senses.
She remembered well when he used to reject contact. When Ki-Ki first met Rafe, she immediately knew something wasnt quite right. Be the ever-good-hearted gal, she immediately latched onto him as often as she could. Sure, she would be walked away from, and she would always stop whenever he seemed too uncomfortable. WHen the day finally came that she managed to keep her arm linked with his, it was a victory for her. Ki-Ki was, after that, as touch-me-love-me as she was now, which brought her endless questions from Rafes other friends. She only smiled at the questions, never looking up from her paper.
With Rafes thumb caressing her arm and his body heat mixing with hers, keeping them warm, her early morning rise started to catch up with her. About halfway through the movie, she gave up resisting her sleepiness, and shut her eyes, relaxing fully against Rafe. Her head rested on his chest, both of them in a half-laying position - but with Rafes feet propped on the table, Ki-Ki found herself curling her legs up besides her, her boots resting on the ground and her red fuzzy socks slightly askew on her feet. Pretty soon, she was asleep on her friends chest, one arm wrapped around his waist as the clock behind them hit seven-thirty in the morning.
(Shall we preform a slight time-skip?)
( I knowwww. I already love them so much. After this part, I can't stop thinking about what it must have been like when they first met. Rafe is 100% not energetic or happy.
I'll do the time skip. Just give me some time to write out the post. We're going out to dinner right now. )
(Oh no worries, don't fret! Take your time, enjoy your meal :) )
(This makes me so happy, I don't know why - i'm not much of a fluff person, but this... this is too cute. Rafes personality clashes so bad with Ki-Ki's I just... This can't NOT be an OTP.)
( I actually had a few minutes. NOW I'm going to dinner. It's the two people you would never imagine together. Both of their friends probably make so many relationship comments towards them. )
Rafe lifted his head, vision still slightly blurry from sleep. He focused on the TV, menu screen of the movie replaying over and over. The movie had ended quite some time ago, and he grew bitter at himself for missing it all. Only then did he look over at Ki-Ki, a smile gracing his face when he realized she was sleeping. He wouldn't complain about the position they were, enjoying it more than he knew he should be.
For a brief moment, he considered sneaking away from her back to his office to work, knowing he could get a lot more done if he wanted to. Then the image of her worried face from earlier flashed in his mind, and with only a simple glance at her sleeping against him, he leaned his head back against the couch and stayed there, watching the menu screen. He wanted so badly to tell her that he needed to get back to work. He wouldn't hesitate with anyone else. People worried about him, but people never stayed around, and he learned to simply not care about what they thought. They could worry all they wanted, but he wasn't going to change.
But he couldn't do that to her. She was the first person he ever actually cared about whether or not she stayed.
With the arm that wasn't around her, which had fallen in his sleep and was now resting against her hip, he pulled out his phone to check the time. 11:38. He was certain those 4 hours were the most he had slept all week, information he would rather not give to Ki-Ki.
(Oh my god I can totally see that. I can also see Rafe snapping in annoyance and the smug looks when he just proved to everyone he does like her, haha!) (Alrighty then, enjoy your meal!)
Ki-Ki shifted slightly, her light, even breathing catching slightly as she almost broke from her sleep as Rafe moved slightly underneath her. She settled back down in a mere moment, warm and happy against him. Her normally energetic and bright expressoin had softened into a peaceful look, a ghost of a smile on her lips as she breathed slowly and evenly.
It took another fifteen or twenty minuted for her to come to, shifting and blinking opened her eyes tiredly. She slowly sat up, brushing her hand over her face gently as to not ruin her light makeup, somehow still in place after four hours of sleep. Seemingly still half asleep, Ki-Ki gave a short, rather adorable huff of a whine and curled back against Rafe for warmth, the sudden absence of heat unwelcome.
Ki-Ki slowly fully woke herself in another few minutes, shifting so that she was still against Rafes side but sitting up, her legs still curled to the side as she combed back a few stray, bright blue hairs that had drifted in front of her face. She was always kind to others, on a daily basis, but it was when she wakes up and is still a bit sleepy that a child-like, soft sweetness was clear in her expression, although she usually remained quiet.
Ki-Ki absentmindedly reached over and pressed the on button to Rafes phone, huffing slightly as she saw it was almost noon. "Oi..." Her english accent was thicker than usual, "Sorry to pass out on you, mate," She let her usual, quirky smile come through, "quite literally."
( He would be so done with all of them. He tries to turn away and ignore him, but that just makes them mock him more. )
The smile on Rafe's face was genuine, a look that very rarely graced him. It was always something condescending, a sarcastic smirk whenever he was making a joke or being proven right. He wasn't the type of person to show emotions openly. It wasn't that he felt they were a weakness. He just never saw a reason for doing so.
He kept his hand on her hip, shifting slightly into a better position now that she wasn't leaning so heavily on him. The smile was gone now, replaced by a neutral expression that was more peaceful instead of giving off the usual irritated vibe that he seemed to give off. "It's not like I was awake for it anyway," he answered, voice drawling slightly from the sleep still trying to take hold of him again. "If anything, I passed out on you. Just not so literally. I missed the entire movie." Part of him wanted to stand and stretch his legs, but a large part of him wanted to simply curl up with her again and fall back asleep. After hearing that sentence in his head, he told her, "We should probably get up. We've been asleep for a few hours."
(I can't stop giggling now. This is too great. "Would you shut up?!" "KI-KI AND RAFE SITTING IN A TREE" "Knock it off you idiots!" "K I S S I N G!" "...I will slaughter you all.")
Ki-Ki pulled a face as he mentioned getting up, but heaved a dramatic sigh and pulled away, standing up and walking a few feet before stretching luxuriously, going onto her tip-toes as her muscles sighed in relief. She reached behind her and undid her hair, shaking it out and letting the pastel blue strands fall free in long, loose coils, soft to the touch. She rarely let her hair down, prefering it off her neck. She slipped the tie around her wrist before turning to face Rafe, her hair framing her face and giving her eyes an extra glow.
"No worries, i missed nearly the whole thing too. Then again, I do recal whats-his-name doing whatever he did," she gave up half way through the sentance with a casual wave of her hand, not even bothering to describe it. With her usual cheerful expression back on her face, she flounced into the kitchen and pulled her coat off the hanger, digging through the pocket for her cell phone and wallet. "Chinese or pizza?" She asked, raising her brow at her friend. When she got her answer, she called the number and placed the order, then hung up, padding back over to Rafes sitting area.
With a huff, she sat on the ground, cris-crossing her legs and leaning against the couch. She tipped her head back and closed her eyes. "What if," she said a moment later, opening one eyes with a tiny smile before shutting it again, "What if there was a world split in three. The first one would be the Nursery - where everyone grew up until they were sixteen. When they turned sixteen, they had to take a test. The test determined which world you belonged in. If you got Option A, you belonged in Eco - a world without any tech at all, run only by instinct. Option B would put you in System - no feelings, just technology. But if you scored fifty-fifty, you were sent to a secret fourth world, the prison. A few would escape and bring the worlds together to complete the ecosystem."
She feel silent after her short idea-rant, pondering about it before shrugging. "Eh."
( That is so him. "...I will slaughter you all." "Haha. Come on, we're-" "I'm serious. I'm thinking of several different ways I can do it within the next 5 seconds." "Wait until your girlfriend finds out that you're going to jail." ".....Are you serious" He's probably punched someone over it. To be honest, he's probably punched someone for Ki-Ki. )
Rafe stood, crossing his arms out over his chest to stretch them out. Chinese food sounded absolutely delicious, his stomach growling at the mere thought of eating. Thinking back on it, he was certain he hadn't eaten anything since breakfast the day before, the feeling of hunger finally catching up to him now that he wasn't working. He kept an eye on her wallet, making sure that he would be the one paying for the meal.
He sat back down on the couch, legs resting against her as she sat below him on the floor. His fingers grazed her face gently as he pushed back a strand of her hair from her face, briefly running his fingers through her hair before he pulled away. The look was on her face now, the one he loved watching the most. Whenever she began sprouting out ideas , he couldn't keep his eyes off of her face, thankful her eyes were closed to not get caught staring at her. He couldn't help himself. It was a breathtaking sight for him, watching the way her mouth curled into the slight smile as she spoke.
When she stopped her rant, he pulled his eyes away from her lips and gazed back at her eyes before casting his attention to the floor. "New story idea?" He asked. "You always have something new going on inside your head. How many do you actually go through with?"
Ki-Ki hummed in thought for a moment, a smile tugging at her lips as he ran his fingers through her Hair. She considered his question for a moment, before answering. "Yes... and no. You see, my ideas come and go as they please." She turned herself around, facing him and looking up at his face. "I try to get every idea down, be it in a notebook, or a canvas. But sometimes, they ideas escape." She put her finger on her temple, tipping her head. "Those ideas I lose are things i'll never get back - unfairly stolen. So, yes and no - i put ideas i still have down on paper or with paints and oils - but there will always be a few that i'll never use. That's what kills me at times," Her playfully smile faltered a little, her eyes flickering with lost plans and thoughts. "Having an idea of something beautiful, only to find it goes away."
She jumped to her feet when there was a knock on the door, and she grabbed her wallet form the coffee table. She opened the door and took the back of Chinese take-out, smiling and exchanging pleasantries with the delivery guy. She placed the food on a stand by the doorframe, pulling out her wallet and flicking through the several bills in her wallet for a twenty - she always let the delivery boy keep the change.
("Ki-Ki would kill you." "I'm not his girlfriend." "You will be." *awkward shifting of her weight as she blushes* "Nah..." Rafe: "Would you leave her alone?" "YOU DO LIKE HER! Awwwww!" <cue the riot>
It's all I can think about ugh... )
The knock at the door startled him, and Rafe's eyes flickered questioningly to the door until he realized the food had arrived. He was already digging through his own wallet while Ki-Ki was grabbing the food, moving slightly in front of her to hand the guy a twenty before she had the chance to. He stood there waiting for the change to come back to him when his mind flashed back to a bitter conversation he once had with her about tipping. Tipping was a rare occasion for him, something he only did in restaurants when he felt the waiter deserved it, and never for a delivery. Wanting to avoid another lecture by her about the importance of tipping, he followed up with, "Uh... Keep the change." He had no idea how much the meal actually cost, and hoped that he wasn't giving away too much money.
He didn't say anything else to the man. He simply turned away and headed to the kitchen to grab two forks for the two of them. It was always strange seeing his kitchen so clean when Ki-Ki was at his house. Even when he cleaned it himself, he only did enough work to make it look better than it had been. When Ki-Ki was done talking to him, he handed her the fork, starting to take out the food. "Hey. Thanks for... Cleaning up. You really don't need to do that every time you come over."
( "Just because I'm defending her from you guys doesn't mean I like her." "We know you. That's exactly what that means." "I am five seconds away from getting up and leaving." Gah. They will never hear the end of it when they actually do get together. )
