Xander's Mother turned her gaze to Theo for a moment before returning it to her son. Xander nodded quickly in agreement. "Yes, we went right down the street." His mother took a deep breath. "You missed all of my calls." She crossed her arms. "I forgot to take it off of silent from being in the library." Xander's confidence in the lie way growing as he spoke, despite it being a new thing for him. After a moment of thought, his mother nodded slowly. "You know how I feel about Motorcycles, Alexander." She was running out of things to pin on Xander in the moment and turned to the one thing that she had seen him doing wrong.

"Oh, well, thanks," Amalthea smiled "I mean, I don't even have to tell you that you're a perfect Slytherin candidate. To be honest though, I'm not sure about me. I guess we'll just have to find out, won't we?"
She wondered, now, what it would be like when she got there. What the other children would be like. She really hoped that she would fit in - she would hate it if the others didn't like her.

Theo sighed. "If it helps, I always drive safe." Not as true as it should have been, but it was definitely true when somebody else was with him. He could be reckless, sure, but he preferred to let other people decide whether they'd put themselves in danger or not. "He's not in any more danger on the bike with me than he'd be in a car, ma'am."

Kane nodded his head in agreement. "I guess we will." He crossed his arms to make himself more comofortable for the train ride. "Just so you know, if you do make it into Slytherin, you already have a friend to count on." He worded his pledge of loyalty and friendship carefully. After all, he wasn't one to lie.

"That is appreciated, but not nessecary." Xander's mother replied to Theo. "It's time to come home Alexander." She turned on her heels and headed for the car.
Xander turned to look at Theo before following his mother. "Thank you." He said softly.

"Well, that's good to know" Amalthea smiled "Let's hope I get into Slytherin then, I'll have a ready-made friend"
With that, she turned to look back out of the window, watching the scenery go past

Theo just nodded. "Yeah, of course," he said as he turned to walk in the opposite direction, towards where his motorcycle was waiting for him. Unlike Xander, he didn't have worry about getting back, but he felt that he should, anyway. He wasn't the type to stay in a library, after all, and he had a few hours to spare for once. He had things to do.

Kane found himself slightly relieved at the fact that he would already know someone in the Slytherin house and hoped that it would be where Amalthea would be sorted. He relaxed back against his seat and also gazed out the window. They spent the rest of the train ride to Hogwarts making friendly conversation and generally getting to know one another a little bit better.
Upon arrival at Hogwarts, the students were ushered into the castle. First year students were taken one direction, while returning students were taken another. The students were then prepared to enter the great hall and be sorted into their houses. Kane stood listening quietly to their instructions. His stance was proud and calm, having no worry about what house he would be sorted into.

When Xander and his mother returned home, the real punishment set in. His mother began yelling about not telling her where he was going and riding on a motorcycle. Although it escalated to a short yelling match between them, Xander was mostly relieved that she had believed the lie about the coffee break, but was tired of having to report to his mother every five minutes. Once she had calmed down enough and given him his punishment, she sent him to his room. Xander had earned himself a week of confinement to his room.

"Good luck," Amalthea, who was standing behind Kane, murmured while they were waiting to be sorted "I'll see you on the other side, I guess" She thought that she would probably be sorted into Slytherin, after having spoken to Kane. Or, at least, she really hoped she would be. She thought she might fit in well there and she might find it easier to make friends if she already had a friend in Kane. She listened at the various house names being called out as students were sorted, smiling at the chanting and cheering. This was going to be great fun, whichever house they were sorted into, she had no doubt. Everyone seemed so joyful and happy, and it made her smile to see it.

"Good luck to you too." Kane replied with a quick glance back. He then refocused back on the front of the Great Hall and waited patiently for his name to be called. He didn't have to wait too long before he heard "Kane Demont" announced from the professor standing next to the Sorting Hat. The Great Hall fell only slightly more silent than it had for all of the other students as Kane made his way up to the front. He sat himself calmly on the stool that waited there. Sitting up straight and proud, he glanced at the Slytherin table. Once he saw all of the calm and knowing stares that his future house was giving him, he confidently returned his gaze back to the first years. He found himself scanning the crowd for Amalthea. Before he could find her, however, the Sorting Hat announced boldly, "Slytherin!" The Sorting Hat was removed from his head and Kane stood to join his house with confidence. As he selected his seat at the table, he was welcomed proudly with handshakes and pats on his shoulder. Once the excitement died down, Kane turned his attention back to the front of the Great Hall to await the rest of the first year's placements. ree- I am not really sure...any ideas?)

It wasn't long after this that Amalthea was seated, the Sorting Hat placed on her head. She found Kane's eyes at the Slytherin table as she waited for the Sorting Hat's decision.
It was silent for a long time, before murmuring thoughtfully and slowly "Now, aren't you a tricky one? I will need to think on your placement for a moment."
There was a minute of intense silence before the Sorting Hat loudly proclaimed "Ravenclaw!"
The blonde bit her lip, a little disappointed, but made her way to the table of cheering Ravenclaw students as the next first year was called for their Sorting. She cast a glance over at Kane, looking to see if she could make out any kind of reaction from him.

Kane had watched hopefully as Amalthea waited for the Sorting Hat's decision. When it announced Ravenclaw, his heart sank slightly in his chest. He watched as she made her way to the Ravenclaw table. Once she had arrived there, Kane turned himself back to his own table, joining the whispered conversations that were being shared. He pushed his disappointment away without a second thought. She hadn't made it into the Slytherin house, and Kane knew that that was the end of any friendship that they had formed. He knew that it would be best to move on and forget about that possibility.

Amalthea's disappointment had only grown when Kane hadn't even given it a second thought. So he really was going to choose to not be her friend just because she was in a different house? She felt her heart sink as she turned away herself, deciding to not dwell on him - after all, he wasn't dwelling on her. She would just make some new friends in Ravenclaw house. Yeah. She'd make friends in Ravenclaw.
[Sorry it's short. Shall we timeskip now?]

(Ya that's fine!)
A few years later, Kane Demont was among the well known group of Slytherin students currently attending Hogwarts. They were great at making trouble and other students miserable. Overall, they were the group that the other houses avoided, the ones that gave Slytherin its reputation. Kane was no where near the top of the class of one of the brightest students at Hogwarts. Mainly because he didn't care to try in any class that didn't interest him, which was limited to mainly Defense Against the Dark Arts. Kane put most of his efforts into the quidditch team where he was a chaser.
Kane was headed to his potions class, and he wasn't exactly excited about it.

(okay!)
Xander made his way through the halls at school towards the cafeteria. He had spent the remainder of the weekend at home in his room. So for the week, school was Xander's only form of freedom.

Coming up to her fifteenth birthday, Amalthea Lux had grown into her body. She was still tall, but where she had previously been gangly, she was now well-proportioned, with a slim but definitely not curvy figure. Her blonde hair was in a ponytail, though it was so long - down to her hips - that it might as well have been down, and her blue eyes glanced around the hallways as she walked.
She had also become top of the class in most classes, except divination, she which she did not have the natural talent. Even classes she did not like she worked hard in, because Amalthea believed in a solid work ethic.
She caught a glance of Kane Demons as she passed him, heading into her potions class and taking her usual seat.

Theo had spent the weekend wondering what had happened to Xander after he left with his mother Saturday evening. He'd also spent it working, he'd had a long shift that took most of his Sunday, so he hadn't had much time to see if he could figure it out. So when he spotted him walking into the cafeteria during his lunch hour, he didn't even think before he started to cross the room in long, confident strides.
As he reached the other, he took a gentle hold of his arm to guide him to the side, where somebody wasn't going to yell at them to move in ten seconds. "So," he started, tone questioning and a little worried. "What happened? How much did you get away with?"

Kane was too busy joking around with his friends to even notice Amalthea Lux. In fact, that had happened so often over the past few years, he had completely forgotten about her existence. After they had been sorted into different houses, they hadn't had any other classes together. That is until now. Kane entered the class alone as his friends headed off to their herbology class. He glanced around the room before carefully taking his seat at the back of the class. Kane had already heard that the potions class always began the year with a project.
As he sat waiting for the class to start, he looked around the classroom wondering if they would be assigned groups or if they would get to choose.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Xander jumped slightly as someone grabbed his arm and pulled him to the edge of the cafeteria. His shoulders relaxed, however, when he realized that it had been Theo. "Well, she believed the part about the coffee break... But I am grounded for a week for not telling her where I was going and for riding on a motorcycle." Xander shrugged his shoulders after filling Theo in. "Sorry you had to see all that." He added. Xander was mostly just embarrassed. After all, one of the coolest kids at school (in Xander's eyes) had witnessed his mother coming to punish him for not following her strict rules.

Grounded for that? At their age? Theo couldn't say he wasn't surprised. He had very little experience with strict parents, and a lot more with negligent ones, so he had no idea people could have rules like those to follow. Still, he shrugged, like it was all nothing to him. "I've seen worse. At least she didn't try to fight me or something."
That had happened. Not with his own parents, but with a friend's in the weeks leading up to him moving out. The girl's father had tried to pick a fight with him after finding out he was leaving his parents, insisting that he was a bad influence on his daughter. Theo had wondered - aloud which, admittedly, was a mistake - if he was the bad influence in her life. The man hadn't taken it well. That fight certainly had been interesting.

(Sorry for not replying, it's been back to school week)
Amalthea took her usual seat as the potions teacher began the class, reminding them that they had a project. They explained that he students wouldn't be allowed to pick their own partners and began listing off pairs of students as partners.
"Miss Lux, you'll be with Mr Demont for a change." instructed the teacher, pointing to an empty pair of seats the two could move to.
Amalthea got up, grabbing her things, and moved to one of these seats. She wasn't happy about not being able to work with people she liked, but she wasn't going to complain and get points being taken away from her house for backchat. She didn't particularly like Kane, but she didn't hate him either, so it could be worse

Xander was slightly surprised at the fight comment. He couldn't imagine his mother hurting anything physically, let alone getting into a fight. Xander returned the shrug. "It will be over in no time though I guess." Not like him being grounded was any different than any other day in his house.

He calmly scooped his books of of his table and stood before heading to the table that they had been assigned.

Theo looked doubtful, but he didn't say anything for a while. "So," he said eventually. "I know it's probably a sensitive topic"- for some reason parents always were -"so feel free to tell me what an idiot I am for asking, but is she always that angry with you?"

She was getting her books in order and flipping to the page the teacher had instructed them to turn to, and so she didn't look at the male for a little bit. When she did turn her blue eyes towards him, however, she was surprised. She hadn't noticed him too much - they'd moved in completely different social circles - but he had changed. It was strange to see the eleven-year-old from the train transformed into… well, Kane. He had changed for the better, definitely, but she ignored the thought. She didn't have time to be noticing boys. She had a project to do. It would be strange to work with him, she thought. Whatever friendship they had on the train had vanished instantly when Amalthea wasn't sorted into Slytherin. Not that she regretted being in Ravenclaw - she loved it there.

"Hey." Kane replied back in a relaxed tone as he too pulled out the book that they were instructed to use. He tried his best to look like he was focused on the professor's words, but Kane hated potions, so it was not an easy task.
Kane Demont hadn't changed too drastically in the last few years, but the changes that had come had turned him into a ladies man of sorts. He had gotten significantly taller than his 11 year old self would have thought would happen. Now standing at approximately 6 feet tall, Kane was practically finished growing. Although, his father still believed he would gain a couple more inches in the next year or so. While he was still fairly average in size, Kane had gained a decent amount of muscle for his frame. His hairstyle remained virtually unchanged, despite his decision to keep it longer on the top than before.
Kane soon found his focus crumbling as the teacher droned on about a topic that he had no interest in.

Luckily for Kane, Amalthea was on the ball, and she soon had the ingredients set out in front of her to make the potion with. Once they were set onto the task, she began making the potion, deftly crumbling powders and stirring the potion, as if she had done it a hundred times. She enjoyed potions, enjoyed the precision it required and the way that if you made one mistake the potion could turn out wrong.
"It's been a while," she said conversationally as she began, though beneath it was the question of why he had stopped being her friend, so she quickly added "How have you been?"
She hoped this would take away whatever had been hidden under that comment, that it would hide whatever undertones had been under it. She didn't want to be rude or to sound accusing.

As Amalthea began to mix potions, Kane refocused and watched her progresses with little interest in the actual method of potion making. He glanced at her when she finally spoke, slightly surprised by the words that she chose. "Yes it has." He replied carefully, wondering what had cause her seemingly frustrated remark. He didn't have long to ponder it before she asked him how he had been.
"I have been well. And you?" His reply was sincere. He had been well. He had many many friends in his house, and he thoroughly enjoyed being at Hogwarts.
