I haven't been very active in a long time since I'm not really on the forums anymore. But since I'm not caught up with the new chapters yet, I'll be giving them a read! :'O

Katanaheart I'm sorry! I enjoy my compliments x'D They are food for a writer. (Along with lots of shushi on my part) My characters do need to be scolded, Kat. And I think you are the best one to do it by far!! Though, I'm waiting for ᴛᴜᴇsᴅᴀʏ to give me an ear full. This chapter was not kind to her. o.e' Dingoleap I see you have many things to tell me. O.O *gives tissues and chocolate*
Funny thing is, I hadn't planned on him dying in this chapter. I had a goal, which was for Shadowface to learn the truth, so then everything else was up for experimenting. I even had an idea at one point to have Blackheart come swooping in, but that seemed to far out of left field. Eaglefrost's death seemed like a more likely thing to happen than anything else, plus it pushed Shadowface that one last step. We will see the break down of their relationship in the next chapter (which is the 'breather' chapter before things get real) where I will explore Shadowface's mental state among a few other things. Remember, we still have Darkmoon in play!
I AM SO GLAD THAT YOU FEEL FOR HIM.
Out of everything, I wanted there to be different feelings for Lionshadow after this. And that scene where Shadowface is inflicting pain upon him, I wanted the reader to see just how easy it would be for Shadowface to become just like Lionshadow, and given that he too lost everything, I hope that it makes it that much more believable. Lionshadow, believe it or not, is one of my favorite characters.
It's been a while, but do you remember the character Eclipse from Jadestar's chapters? She came with a kit, asking for shelter, saying that her mother was Shadowhunter, and that a mysterious tom had been keeping her in the forest. That's when we found out that Lionshadow and Shadowhunter were not only mates, but had kits. (Also, Eclipse has the curse of fate, and her kit too received only yellow eyes)
Shadowhunter is the true villain of this story. (gosh it feels so good to say that after keeping it in for so long x'D)
I mean, just look at her name, SHADOWHUNTER. She hunts "Shadows". LionSHADOW. SHADOWface. SHADOWkit. (haha) If you need anything, I'm here for you to vent at lol Thank you. <3
I agree. As much as I would have liked to see Blackheart again, it makes no sense for her to suddenly appear.
Eaglefrost's death was heartbreaking and powerful and exactly what Shadowface needed. It will certainly be interesting to see how Shadowface fares in the aftermath of this. She really has lost so much - but not everything, and she needs to remember that, otherwise she could go down a very dark path indeed. She still has her sister, her daughters and Darkmoon. Interesting, too, that Lionshadow had two daughters, and out of all of Shadowface's children, only two daughters survived. (And Tempestkit, since he technically died, I'm excluding him from this little analysis.)
Lionshadow has become such a complex character, and the emotions were a joy to read about. So much sympathy for him, really. It gives a level of credibility to his actions, almost. It's not just blind hatred anymore. Instead, there's this anguish behind him that really adds another level of depth to his characterisation.
And yes, Shadowface could easily venture down the same dark path, but like I said above, she hasn't quite lost everything yet...
I do remember that, now that you've pointed it out. The name sounded familiar, but I couldn't place it. Hmm, interesting... Also, it seems to me that cats during Lionshadow and Shadowhunter's time had a much deeper understanding and acceptance of the curses and their abilities...

Very true!, compliments are helpful! As is recognition and validation. I just immediately jumped into scolding everyone.  I had no emotions in my response, I was sad when Eaglefrost was dying, but also, like Shadowface, okay; I get it but more important things to deal with right now. I forgot Eclipse had a kid... Does this mean the Curse of Fate has a descendant aside from Shadowface? Yes, very true. x'D You did! I get it, you just had to jump right into berating the characters for making this all happen. lol Good question. |

mmmm this half of lionshadow is v interesting. i get the sense it's genuine, too, that the lionshadow eagle is fighting is the half with all hope of good burned out and left in another realm.

Thank you!!!! <3 I had to think hard over that scene. It's future Spottedmoon (whom I haven't even written yet in Dark Side of the Moon) chatting with present Shadowface. That is very true. She has not lost everything. She still has her kits and Darkmoon and some remnant of her clan. She still has her life. Let's just hope she can see past what she has lost.
I'm so happy that Lionshadow finally got his story told. (Not all of it but the gist of it). I'm glad he didn't turn out to be the stereotypical villain. That was my goal; to give him more depth and complexity.
There was. I like to think of them as the last generation who kept to the old ways. After that Cursed began to forget who they were and what they were meant to be.
Same, honestly. x'D

Shadow has indeed done good. Gotta say, I love Lionshadow in this chapter. He's turning out to be way more complex than he first appeared, definitely someone I can sympathise with. His POV is one of my favourite things about the chapter.
Eaglefrost, though... I was afraid this was coming, but no. Not cool. Poor Shadowface, I think this loss will hit her pretty hard.
Which brings me to Shadowhunter. Tbh I just want to yell at her for starting this whole mess. And even without that, I can't believe she's cold enough to kill her own kit. And then she tries to act like Jadestar's mother!
So Shadowhunter was the she-cat in the second half of the prologue. I wasn't sure if it was her or Jadestar. It was really cool to read that again, but with the explanations behind what was going on. |

That sounds rather ominous... Yes, let's hope that Darkmoon can talk some sense into her wayward former apprentice.
Let me tell you, its exciting to know things as well! The part where the villains motives are revealed can really make or break a story, especially if its a really cliched idea, so its so exciting to learn the reasons behind Lionshadow's behaviour. It's a little refreshing to see, as well. Here's a villain who's not seeking vengeance against the entire clan, he's not evil just for the sake of evil. Instead, here's a heartbroken father driven to madness by a cat he trusted and loved.

Hope and desperation fills me as the familiar cave comes into view, the worn paths in and out signaling the presence of many cats.
But there is no noise.
Confusion drives me to run faster, until I am sprinting into the cave, not giving any warning to my approach.
A small body rams into mine as I am enclosed by the cave, my breath running away from me as I roll and am slammed up against one of the rock walls.
“Who are you?” A she-cat’s voice yells, her voice trembling as she holds me down.
I look up, hissing, my one eye narrowing, trying to distinguish the cat in front of me, but the sky outside has since grown dark, and my senses are muddled by the rain and stench of death and blood.
But the voice gives the she-cat away, and I don’t need to say anything as she too realizes who she has pinned beneath her.
“Mother?” Maskkit asks, her evergreen eyes wide with shock and fright.
“Maskkit,” I say gently, removing her claws from my shoulder. “It’s me. I’m here.”
Maskkit shakes, tears spilling from her eyes. She hiccups, her jaws parting in a silent scream as she lowers her head to my chest, moving her head back and forth.
“Mama…Mama!” She cries, sobs raking through her body without mercy.
Horror and guilt fills me as I sit up, embracing my daughter tightly, never wanting to let her go.
“What happened, Maskkit?” I ask gently, rubbing the top of her head with my muzzle.
She just shakes her head, her sobbing intensifying.
I look up and around at the cave, and a theory begins to form.
Moss lies strewn across the ground, scattering like feathers on a turbulent wind. Parts of the earthen floor are torn up and disturbed, with flakes of black soot and grey ash lying about.
And along the walls, all up and down the cave, are giant black soot marks.
Fire. Lots of it.
I pull away slightly and look down at my daughter who still has tears soaking her face.
“Maskkit…Maskkit, you must tell me where Darkmoon is.”
She sucks in a deep breath, her green eyes opening to look into mine, her head slowly shaking back and forth. Her chin trembles as she tries to speak, but her emotions are drowning her.
“Deep breaths, my love,” I tell her gently, caressing the side of her small face with my paw, trying to dry her tears.
Her breaths quicken, and then she says, with barely more than a whisper, “He-he made me watch.”
My paw stills on her face.
“What?”
“The scary tom,” she says, her eyes widening slightly as she speaks. “He came-I thought for me, but…but-he made me watch!” She cries, breaking down into hysterical sobs.
I bring her to my chest, holding her tightly there as I look around the cave once more.
It had been a desperate fight. The flames…Nightfang, Ashpaw, Witheredsong, and Darkmoon; all four of them had fought.
I can see it now, the way the soot is angled on the walls. Most of them point outwards.
But there is no blood.
“Where are the others? Where are your siblings?” I ask, shaking Maskkit’s shoulder as gently as I can, trying my best to keep the panic out of my voice.
“Gone,” Maskkit croaks out, her voice becoming raw from her crying. “Darkmoon distracted him when we found out what he was here for. Tempestkit and Coldkit are safe.”
A sigh of relief. “And what was he here for? Leverage?”
Maskkit shakes her head, turning her head to stare at a spot on the ground where a large black soot stain remains.
“Darkmoon…he was here for Darkmoon,” she says brokenly. “He made me watch as he killed her.” (': |
