Does anyone else feel like he's become Yellowfang 2.0 with his grumpiness?
Also I hated him in The Sight, he no respect for poor Brightheart and wouldn't stop whining. But over time he grew on me.
So what's your opinion?

I absolutely despise him. He is annoying little sociopathing brat that cares for only himself and doesn't value anything until there is a possibility of him loosing it. Maybe Brightheart didn't handle him the best way, but he seemed bratty to her in the moment she became his mentor, calling her "half warrior".
He never seemed to mature. I mean, we saw Hollyleaf, Lionblaze, Ivypool, heck, even Dovewing mature but Jayfeather? He never seemed to grow out of his emo phase.
He has unhealthy obsession over the prophecy and stick. He and Lionblaze were pushy to Ivypool and Dovewing and I just didn't like that.
And dear lord, don't even get me started on AVOS. Alderpaw was a nervous cat and Jayfeather just seemed to snap at him every time he did something wrong. Even when he did something right. He gave his apprentice one compliment at the end of second book. About Twigkit - he didn't care at all how she felt, for him she was just another dumb kit that got under his paws.

Neutral. There's no concrete reason for his grumpiness. It's one of those "just cause" things, and that irritates me. But at the same time, I like him more than Lionblaze and Dovewing.

Yeah, Jayfeather seems really angry now days. It's like the Erins stripped all of his personality traits except for being grumpy. He's like a bitter old man now who hates life.

I like Jayfeather, but it seems like the grumpiness and strictness is a bit overdone in the recent books. He has other personality traits, but the Erins don't seem to want to show them.
Then again, his father is Crowfeather, and Crowfeather is shown as being prickly to all but a select few… I do know Crowfeather mellows out over time, but it seems like Jayfeather is going in the opposite direction…
What would be interesting is if Jayfeather was facing something like what happened to Cinderpelt, where he sees a vision of himself dying or something bad happening to his Clanmates. And just like her, he wouldn't be able to tell anyone. However, if this is the case, then the two characters face the same problem in different ways. Cinderpelt does it with dignity, while Jayfeather becomes more prickly and defensive… Again, it's something that is a realistic reaction out of him, considering his father is Crowfeather… And it would be a good explanation for the personality change…

Like an off-screen in between books death from greencough? No. I wanna see him suffer Challenge accepted.
Jayfeather hated this part of the forest. As his paws ached from the rocks, He then bumped into a tree causing him to hiss in frustraton. Deep in the forest the whole clan walked, Sometime ago a pair of twolegs have started a fire, and is spreading around the forest. But as luck would have it, dark grey clouds appeared in the sky with the promise of rain. But Bramblestar wasn't taking any chances and had ordered the whole clan to leave the camp until it's safe to return.
"We should go to the tunnels" Whitewing suggested. "Are you mousebrained? What if it starts raining and the tunnels flood?" Rosepetal exclaimed. "Then we'll just leave the tunnels." Bumblestripe said. "I agree with Whitewing, we should head to the tunnels its safer there." Brightheart added Oh, by Starclan shutup! "Quiet!" shouted Berrynose from the back Finally, someone with some sense. "Smell that?" said Berrynose. Then Jayfeather smelled it. too. A scent he knows too well. Badgers. He stood, along with everyone, eveb though he can not see he could hear the group of badgers heading towards them. The fire must have scared them from their hole. "Quick, out of their way let's head back". shouted Bamblestar. "But thats is where the fire is." Bramblestar gave a dismassive wave of his tail "Look at the clouds it's already starting to sprinkle the fire will be put out by then." No cat spoke, all fearing to express hope. "The Camp just ahead." Then a low rumble of thunder made every cat jump then he saw a bright flash of light struck at the ground nearby. Then a small fire has started as the cats looked they saw a small abandoned twoleg den near it a strange shaped twoleg object that is colored red. As, the fire touched it a fiery explosion and the surrounding forest are already getting engulfed in flames. Many of the cats scattered deciding to take their chances with the badgers afterall. As Jayfeather ran to follow his clanmates. He tripped over a root of a tree, as he got up, to continue on. He then saw light appear in front of him: a fiery, blazing conflagration. He can see. Jayfeather swallowed his throat and sat down in nearby tree. He knew there was no chance. Jayfeather closed his eyes, He didn't want to watch. After being born blind as a kit, he would burn here, After seeing the fire that would be his death. He could not help but purr at the painful irony. Firea blazed all around Jayfeather, His little pocket of air was only useful to fill his lungs for screaming. Which he did as he slowly burned.

It would probably be in scenes like this: Jayfeather and Alderheart search around the lake for mallow leaves. The water of the lake laps at his paws and he abruptly jerks himself away and falls over. "Jayfeather? Are you okay? Do you need help?" Alderheart rushes over to his mentor and starts to help him. Jayfeather pushes him away and gets back onto his paws. "I don't need your help. I just wasn't expecting that." Alderheart dragged the rabbit over to Jayfeather. "You haven't eaten all day, please take this." "I don't want it," the medicine cat replied. "Whoo! Messing up whatever this is!" Jayfeather chuckled, tearing apart and throwing around herbs. Messing up all of his own good work. What's wrong with Jayfeather? He started to growl and tear apart moss nests. After various ones like that, eventually Bramblestar is forced to banish Jayfeather. Jayfeather wanders around for a little, until Alderheart finds him slowly dying of starvation. Jayfeather dies while under Alderheart's watch.

I don't think Jayfeather has been that bad.
He has a prickly personality which I personally don't mind, though I can understand why it may not be for everyone. However, keep in mind that especially when he was younger even Jayfeather's own Clanmates underestimated him. Even Brightheart and Ferncloud seemed to think he wouldn't make a good warrior, so of course he'd be frustrated and he gets better as he grows older anyway. And he did feel guilty for hurting Brightheart, so he does care for her and the rest of his Clanmates.
As for his mentoring, I can sort of see where Jayfeather is coming from: Alderheart, his first apprentice and the one who will succeed him, was spending a lot of time being concerned over Twigpaw instead of doing his job, or at least that's how Jayfeather saw it. And he wasn't entirely wrong, either, especially since Alderheart has shown to get distracted before. He also saw as Twigpaw getting in the way and, again, he wasn't entirely wrong on that either.
There's also the fact that Jayfeather may be a little jealous of Alderheart for being Bramblestar and Squirrelflight's biological son, as well as trying to push him to be the best medicine cat he can be. After all, it has been shown that despite everything, Jayfeather is proud of Alderheart.
Also, just because someone looks fine on the outside, doesn't mean they are on the inside. Jayfeather doesn't even appear all that much in either Dovewing's Silence or Bramblestar's Storm, so for all we know, he could've been upset about it all this time and we just didn't even know it. Jayfeather isn't exactly the type of cat to let his true feelings out anyway. Lionblaze and Dovewing didn't get used to the loss of their powers for a long time, so who says the same thing can't be said for Jayfeather?
The life of a medicine cat is also a very lonely one, and this is especially true for Jayfeather. He's blind and was forced to become a medicine cat, he lost his powers and doesn't seem to have as strong of a connection to StarClan as he used to, he doesn't seem to be close to Leafpool even before he knew she was his mother, many of his Clanmates died in just a few moons alone, including his grandfather and sister in the Great Battle, he doesn't seem to be very close to Bramblestar and Squirrelflight nowadays, he isn't all that close to Alderheart and Sparkpelt, his brother has a family of his own, his real father is in a different Clan and his half-brother hates him, and the only cat he's ever loved has been long dead for years.
And then there's this quote from Thunder and Shadow:
Jayfeather has also shown kindness regarding Twigpaw.
Then there's his age to take into account. Jayfeather's referred to himself as old, and while he may not be that old compared to other cats, stress is a cause of aging faster.
Jayfeather isn't that bad at all. If anything, I see his behavior towards Alderheart more as tough love.

I like Jayfeather. I don't mind his personality. Despite how the Erins write him, Jayfeather does care for others and that is shown sometimes. I like how he speaks his mind too. He's one of my favorite cats.

I liked him, but for some reason his character is going down hill, since AVoS, what's up with that? It really is like he's becoming Yellowfang. Yellowfang was cool before she died, now she's an annoying lying manipulative badger. And Jayfeather was cool when he still had his powers. Now he's a cranky old grandpa, still in his prime, and kinda a let down.

He's my favorite he's very complex in his emotions just like Yellowfang. He dose seem rude and mean but a life time of dissapointed and secrets may have made him that way. He also is probably feeling more vulnerable for not being able to see others thoughts. He's probably upset that he is not feeling the closeness he did with Half Moon. I think he is being rude and mean to Alderhart and twigpaw is that he doesn't want to grow found of another just incase he gets hert again.

He was a pretty interesting character, but now he's just become a redundant source for Riordain-like jokes. As a cat, he's just a horrible, grumpy Yellowfang that isn't as interesting as in all the other arcs.
