April would have been perfectly content to watch the fools rip each other apart and the way her steals when it was all over. She and Parker had stayed out of the whole thing, but Parker... sweet, stupid Parker had to run in like superman and try to save the day. Her heart leapt up her in fear for him and for herself (he was really her only defense now), and she called out to him, "Parker, no!" She then watched as he subdued North in a mix of awe and subtle pride. Quietly and tentatively, she approached her friend and pressed up against him for reassurance. Eyes annoyed, April gazed down at the dog who had just put them through horror, "Why won't he wake up?"
(I think that would be sweet i Parker fell in love with her, but I think you are right. April would only see him as a means of protection at most a friend. She might come around eventually though. )

"Well, you weren't getting up anytime soon, Mr. Hoity Toity, and I didn't see you jumping in to battle to help me out!" Brimstone spat. "What're we supposed to do with him?" He gestured disgustedly towards the groggily blinking North, who was shuffling his paws around, trying to stand up.
April's pelt was warm, and Parker was content to lean into her. "I don't know, I guess he finds it convenient to take a nap right now." Tearing open the plastic wrapping of one of the steaks, he pulled out the red meat, tossing it to April. As for the other, he tore through the foam, as it was flipped upside down. Pulling out the steak, he settled onto his haunches, chewing on the steak.

Lad sniffed crossly and indignantly, then composed himself. “Mr. Hoity Toity,” he proclaimed, “says we should kill him. He's too arrogant for his own good, wouldn't you agree?” North had, after all, done nothing but cause unfavorable conflict. And once a troublemaker, always a troublemaker, thought Lad.

"But we don't know when we'll need a scrub to lick our feet."
North looked up at Brimstone, growling, struggling to his feet. "Try me, and I'll snap your neck." Stepping forward, he was yanked backwards by the rope. "You seussed idiots! You tied me down!? Come here so I can rip your throats!"
Brimstone stepped closer to him, just out of his reach, as the dog foamed and snarled at him, straining at his leash, swearing wildly. Brimstone tapped a paw to his chin, settling onto his haunches. "Your offer is quite tempting."

“Stop it with your threats, hen-smart little rat tail-eater,” ordered Lad, using 'hen' in place of 'magpie' to give the desired effect. “You've done nothing but cause drama all day. Show some respect and you'll get off easy. Don't, and I'll see to it that you're drowned in boiling water.”

North sighed, rolling his eyes. He clearly was at the disadvantage, and a big one at that. "What do you want?" If the dog had reasonable demands, he would follow them. Otherwise, he could pull the card he always had to his advantage.

North sighed, rolling his eyes. He clearly was at the disadvantage, and a big one at that. "What do you want?" If the dog had reasonable demands, he would follow them. Otherwise, he could pull the card he always had to his advantage. “Well,” started Lad, “for one thing, you're going to have to act at least a touch civil, at least when the situation calls for it. Secondly, you will need to submit to your superiors. You know, like normal dogs,” he went on to say, a sharp edge underlying his voice. “The odds will be a bit more in your favor, also, if you think things out before you do them. Ever done that before?” he hounded the stringy-legged dog. Then, of its own accord, his angular face turned toward plump April and comical Parker. He noticed immediately, as his nose had indicated before, that the two were munching on steak. His hunger seemed to sharpen in that instant, and he longed to snatch a morsel or two. Then he reminded himself that he had made peace with these two blameless dogs, at least for now. It would do him no good to break it.
“Let's hunt,” he suggested to Brimstone, now ignoring emotive North entirely. “And not coyotes,” he added, remembering Brimstone's disgust at his unfortunate eating habits.

North rolled his eyes. "Whatever." Snorting at the bristly rope, he backed out of it, letting his head slip through the loop. His head was thinner than his neck, rendering any non-proper leash worthless.
Parker froze as Lad's eyes fell upon him, and he shuddered, warily watching his movements. When he didn't seem to do anything, he nosed a couple steaks over to him, now having 2 untouched steaks of the 6 he and April started with.

When he didn't seem to do anything, he nosed a couple steaks over to him, now having 2 untouched steaks of the 6 he and April started with. Lad was waiting for Brimstone to consent when he saw Parker advance from the very corner of his eye. Bracing himself for a fight or challenge, Lad turned slowly around, expression terse yet angry, only to discover that two slippery chunks of meat lay at his feet. “Thank you,” said Lad curtly. But in spite of the haughtiness of his words, his expression had softened into a sort of graciousness exclusive to him.
The lanky dog turned to Brimstone. “I guess we won't have to after all,” he said nonchalantly, then hunched over, settling on the floor. He was pushing the second steak over to Brimstone's feet when he glimpsed motion from the corner of an eye. His head snapped around to stare at North. “And what do you think you're doing?” he quipped, the superstition on his face raw and untainted.

April watched as their hard earned food was transferred to a bunch of pea-brained fools. She kept her face and body language neutral, but inwardly she smarted with anger. So now they were buddies huh? After they had just tried to kill them earlier? She shook out her pelt lightly and munched on her steak to give her mouth something to do. She was afraid her mouth would get them in trouble again if she didn't distract it. The steak was hard and chewy, but also the best thing she had had in months. She put both of her paws on the end of the steak so she rip the pieces off, making it easier to chew and swallow. Quickly the meat was gone and while her stomach wasn't entirely full, it was appeased enough. She sighed and laid down beside Parker awkwardly, her belly making it hard for her to position herself.

Lad watched snidely as April gnawed her meal absentmindedly. Though he couldn't be entirely sure, he knew she was annoyed by Parker's gesture.
Why hide it? thought Lad; this was an anathema of his. Why not tell him how she felt? Lad itched for a fight, or at least an argument. And he itched for these dogs to simply leave. Sure, Brimstone had wanted to round up all the morons in town. Hell, he had even seemed staunch to the cause. But these dogs were more hindrance than help, always concealing their true thoughts.
But that mere aspect was not why the whole thing bothered him. It was that these other dogs probably despised him. Sure, he had been hated before, but he had killed the perpetrators. In this instance, that was not a possible solution. It was not that it would bother Brimstone if Lad did so, but Lad just didn't feel ... heartfelt anymore.
No. Perhaps he was simply having an off day. He returned to his food.

Too lazy to do any coding. Sorry guys. >.< ))
Feeling April tense under he pelt, he looked towards her, tossing her an apologetic glance. "Sorry." He whispered. "But we can't chance getting into a scrap over the food. I don't think that I'd be able to handle fighting anymore." It was clear that Parker was exhausted, and too wary of Lad to make a misstep, for his own safety, and April's. He pulled the remaining steaks towards him, gnawing distractedly on the T-bone from his steak, splintering the bone slightly. He sighed, tinged with melancholy.
North glared at Lad. "You didn't think you were going to keep me on a leash, did you?"

“I will,” he shot back with edge, “if you keep up with your insubordinate ways.” Lad nudged the steak toward Brimstone. “Eat!” he demanded, taking a huge bite of his own steak and chewing messily.

Brimstone tore at the flesh, pressing a paw into the steak, tearing with his jaws. He devoured the steak quickly, and went to work on licking his wounds, watching North warily. "We should probably head for bed soon." He glanced at the setting sun, his muzzle wrinkling. "We're losing daylight quickly." Turning towards the other dogs, he growled, "We'll be taking our own room for the night, so none of you pups try to pull anything funny."

Lad gave a pleasurable nod of agreement, turning around to nibble on his bullet wound, which still stung in plenitude.
The gangly whippet winced as he chipped off a flake of crusty curdled blood with his coarse tongue. He got up and stretched, catlike, and sidled in the direction of the quarters they had slept in the night before. He hopped on top of a cubicle and beckoned for Brimstone to settle down beside him.

April glanced up at Parker from where she was laying and spoke quietly despite knowing that everyone's could hear her, "It's fine, Parker. I don't want a fight either." In fact that was the last thing she wanted anymore. Now that she had food in her belly, the anger was starting to subside and drowsiness wasn't taking its place. She yawned, a small, short squeal escaping her mouth as she did.
The mother dog turned her gaze to brimstone as he starting speaking, but when he got to the part about the separate room, she rolled her eyes and place do her head back on the ground. Let them have a room; it would spare her from seeing Lad's obvious interest in Brimstone. Gag me with a bone... she thought. Honestly, couples grossed April out.

Harper, still hungry after catching mice for Rhapsody, returned to the corner to flush out a few more and catch them. She caught a few, leaning down to eat them quickly. Licking her muzzle after she finished, she lifted her gaze to look at the other dog. "Are you from around here?" She asked, sitting down to try and lick her fur dry. It was drying slowly on its own, so she figured she would try and speed it up. Her fur began to fluff up as a result of it not drying without her licking it. Woodrow spectated fondly, all too loving in spite of the short time they had been familiars. He wasn't hungry from the rather pulpy corpse of the rat, which he had eaten in amplitude, but couldn't resist finishing off the carcass that he gripped with his teeth. He devoured the last remnants of the once-intact body, licking his jaws with brutal yet innocent pleasure afterward. He had no inkling of how simply horrid he was, nor how all dogs were, and wouldn't anytime soon.
The weasel-like dog rested his head on the foreground, huffing air through his nose with dreamy contentment. The terrier thumped his plumy tail upon the rather outdated green carpeting as if to say, Come lounge with me. The other dogs had no choice but to comply.

Brimstone followed suit, shooting a suspicious glare at the other dogs, piling up rubbish at the door way, holing themselves in in a way. Hopping onto the cubicle, he curled around Lad, his flanks rising and falling slowly. His breathing began to slow, his eyes shutting.
Parker looked towards April, making a face and sticking his tongue out playfully. He pretended to puke, wagging his tail in the direction that Brimstone and Lad went. He rolled his eyes, leaning into April, and settling down on his haunches.

Rolling around in the grainy but soft carpet, she settled, watching the sun set through the window. The sky was turning with a blaze of reds, pinks, and purples, and the rain was beginning to subside, into a colorful mist.

Lad accepted Brimstone's curling around him with contentment, readily snuggling up against the other dog's warm, floccose pelt. He glanced at the assemblage of trash positioned by the doorway, feeling as comfortable as though he were a fox kit in the whelping den or a hatchling in the nest. He sleepily passed his tongue over Brimstone's jaw and wriggled into a more comfortable position.
And yet he couldn't sleep. He gave a yawn punctuated by a squeaking squeal of frustration. Minute by minute, he grew more agitated, his eyes beginning to sting and his paws beginning to twitch. He was beginning to grow fidgety, tossing or turning every few seconds. What was keeping him awake?
“Brimstone,” he murmured, a little surprised at how groggy his voice sounded.

“Beautiful, isn't it?” he whispered.

"Yeah? What's on your mind?"
He moved so that he was leaning on his elbows, and lying on his side, looking at Lad intently. "I'm guessing you can't sleep. Those dogs out there bothering you? I'll drive them out if you need me to. Are you thirsty, hungry?"
