This is a planning page for three Clans: RainClan, OakClan, and EchoClan. The Clans are relatively normal by all standards, though still with their own personalities, challenges, and histories.
The Clans live in a mountain valley of Appalachian inspiration. OakClan lives in the forested mountains at the head of the valley, while RainClan makes its home in the more open lowlands. Part of RainClan's territory is made up of rural twolegplace (cattle pasture, mostly), and past their border is the twolegplace itself, which straddles a wide, rocky river that flows out of the mountains and through OakClan and RainClans' territories. Along the shores of the river, a Clan called StoneClan once made its home, but it was destroyed when the twolegs came. The Clan was destroyed; many stayed in their old territory as rogues or even kittypets, while some were taken in to the other two Clans. As such, many twolegplace cats are descended from StoneClan, and even within RainClan and OakClan some share StoneClan blood.
The medicine cat of StoneClan, when it was destroyed, traveled to the underground waterfall where the Clans spoke with StarClan, seeking guidance. StarClan led her deeper into the caves and showed her a safe place where the Clan could make their camp, and taught her how to navigate and hunt underground. Then, she returned to the surface and gathered the StoneClan cats who were willing, and together they returned to the cave to rebuild their Clan, which they now called EchoClan, in honor of the way sounds carried in the caves, and the way that they echoed StoneClan.
OakClan:
OakClan is the largest and physically strongest out of all of the Clans, since they're constantly climbing up and down the mountains. They have very good control of their bodies, and are quite agile and balanced in addition to their strength. All of their senses are good but none of them are super fantastic; out of all of them, their hearing is probably their best trait, but it still wouldn't rival an EchoClan cat's. They're generally very thick-furred so that they can handle the snow in leaf-bare, and the majority of cats are a medium color and tabby for best camouflage. Traditionally, there has been some bobcat blood mixed in with the Clan, and so they tend to have some more bobcat-like traits such as tufted ears, stumpy tails, long fangs, large paws, and shaggy fur. They tend to be loud, outspoken, boisterous, and very loyal to their Clan and kin. They are extremely loyal to the warrior code and follow their leader- whoever it may be- without question. They are also very obedient of the word of StarClan, and therefore their medicine cat is held in very high respect.
RainClan:
RainClan lives in the more open lowlands of the valley, making them fast runners to be able to hunt in the fields. However, they still have the agility to traverse the forests in their territory. Due to being the closest proximity to twolegplace they have the most mixed blood, and therefore the broadest range of physical traits. RainClan is the most free-spirited of the three; while loyal to their Clan, kin, and culture, they're the most lax about the warrior code, and see no problem befriending cats outside their Clan. They welcome any cat who is willing and able to join their Clan, and who proves themselves trustworthy and loyal. While wary as always of twolegs, they have no problem venturing into twolegplace on occasion, or snatching up the food that twolegs leave out, or anything tasty out of the garbage. There's no shame in taking what's there- survival is adapting to the situation, after all, and sometimes the situation is easy food. Of course, this very laid-back way of life is often scorned by the other Clans as making them soft, and perhaps it does, but when it comes right down to it RainClan cats are just as capable of surviving as any other.
EchoClan:
EchoClan is the most reserved and suspicious of the three Clans, being very secretive for many reasons. They tend to have a slight animosity towards the other two, though RainClan more so than OakClan due to the fact that RainClan was so eager to snatch up what little of StoneClan's territory that was left after the Clan was destroyed. They are generally very small in stature, due to the lack of prey in the caves, and have thick, sleek fur to ward off the cold and dampness. EchoClan cats have poor eyesight, due to the fact that they rarely use in the pitch-black underground, and when they emerge it must be at night, because their eyes are very sensitive to daylight; even a dim moon seems bright to them. It is not uncommon for kits to be born blind, or become blind not long after birth due to the lack of light. However, because the other senses of all EchoClan cats have become so strong this rarely proves to be a problem, unlike with the surface Clans. EchoClan cats are extremely quick on their paws, both in physical reactions and with decision-making; they have to be, when unseen dangers can appear at any moment. They are extremely adaptable, and tend to be rather prideful of their skills. They take great pride in their close connection with StarClan, in particular. EchoClan cats tend to be extremely quiet, both in voice and in step; after all, making too much noise in even one part of the caves could give away one's position from anywhere, and possibly ruin someone's chance at hunting.
