Spiderpaw blinked slowly at Opalmist before his eyes grew wide. "What? You mean like mates?!" He honestly hadn't thought of that. He just thought it strange for Eclipsesky to sit so closely with what he assumed was a patient, and...Spiderpaw might have been a little butthurt he couldn't pick Eclipsesky's brain like with the other medicine cats. "Surely he wouldn't! That's against our code. Against StarClan!"

Opalmist held herself as still and calm as possible, feeling Spiderpaw's words lance into her. It was this reason alone that she knew Spiderpaw would become a far better Medicine Cat than she had once thought she would be. She flicked an ear lightly. "I wouldn't assume Eclipsesky would be so bold as to act more than friendly with a clanmate in front of an entire gathering... but I can't say he would or wouldn't. It could be purely innocent, for all we know. We must be careful though. Accusing him of such things could lead to a lot of consequences, even if it is not true."
She was no fool. If, or when, her own secret came out, she expected harsh punishment. Cedarstar couldn't afford to show any weakness or favoritism, even for a medicine cat. She understood it, but it still made her feel a knot of nervousness. She felt her heart race. Would Swiftstar banish Eclipsesky, if he truly was seeing a clanmate? Maybe she should reveal the secret herself, stop being such a coward about it. But... she couldn't. She couldn't, and she knew she needed to do her job. Snowdance wasn't getting any younger. She mulled over the thoughts as she stared towards the older medicine cats.

"If he's standing at the edge of a cliff, we wouldn't let him jump, so why shouldn't we ask him about his relationship with that she-cat? If it's innocent, he'll tell us. Perhaps we should wait to see if anything happens, or wait for another gathering before we try any kind of intervention?” Opalmist offered, swallowing down her rising worries. |

Lavendersky sat silently nearby. She really didn't care much for the affairs of other cats, at least, she didn't care much anymore. If one decided to break the codes of Starclan, then Starclan would bring their wraith down, no point to get involved.

Spiderpaw glanced over at his mentor. He hoped he wasn't speaking too out of line. He did have to impress her after all, but after all her stories and his mother's stories about AdderClan and the Dark Forest, he wanted to remain vigilant for anyone slipping away from the code. Make his mentor and StarClan proud.

Eclipsesky padded into the tunnel, ears flicking up as he heard his name. He glanced curiously between the other medicine cats, before settling down beside the stone, motioning Dawnshadow to follow him. "What were you discussing that has to do with me?" he asked, voice calm and even.

"We were just discussing how you didn't sit with us at the Gathering." Spiderpaw lifted his chin up when Eclipsesky walk into the tunnel. "You choose to sit with a Clanmate instead. Was there a reason for it?"

Opalmist nearly hitched her breath at Spiderpaw’s instant response, inwardly feeling a flicker of awkwardness. She greeted Eclipsesky and Dawnshadow with a tentative wave of her tail.

"There you are!" Peachdapple mewed a warm greeting to Eclipsesky and Dawnshadow when she noticed their arrival. She hadn't heard Spiderpaw's question, but she noticed how there suddenly seemed to be a trickling of tension. The large she-cat looked curiously between everyone.
Opalmist pointedly kept her gaze away from anyone directly, paws shuffling.

Eclipsesky locked eyes with Spiderpaw, seeming to challenge him to go on. “Silverspirit wasn’t feeling well. I was just making sure she was doing alright. She’s a close friend. Medicine cats are allowed to have those aren’t they?” He asked evenly. He knew he was taking it too far, the guilt was starting to writhe within him and he hadnt even broken the code! Not yet anyway

"Though, you were pretty close to her all night. Are you sure you weren't the patient? I get it. There's no shame in being sick yourself. We could've helped you with some remedies, though." Spiderpaw flicked his tail and huffed. He really had been hoping to pick Eclipsesky's brain about WindClan herbs during the gathering and he knew there wasn't going to be much time to do it here. Not when he and Lavendersky had such a long trek to make it back to their territory. If I could just pick his brain...know all the herbs in all the territories...maybe then Lavendersky would see me worthy enough to recieve my full name. He glanced a bit bitterly at Dawnshadow. He was almost as big as her.

Dawnshadow looked at her mentor, eyes lingering on him for a long moment. She knew Silverspirit was fine, the shecat hadn’t visited the den that day. Though she supposed it could have been sudden. Still, that didn’t explain all the hushed whispers when they thought she wasn’t paying attention.

Peachdapple's cheery demeanor now settled into an almost inquisitive glance as she realized why the situation seemed so awkward. She could only assume that Spiderpaw and Opalmist must have been discussing Eclipsesky's closeness to one of his clanmates. She hummed, recalling. "I remember you were close friends with Stormfury as well. I'm assuming it's his sister you all are referring to, I saw her as well last gathering, though it's typically normal that if you befriend one sibling, you befriend the other." She curled her tail. "This is already quiet a start to the evening, then." |

Eclipsesky licked his chest in attempt to calm his nerves. He looked towards Peachdapple, thankful that she has brought up Stormfury. “Stormfury was a very close friend of mine. When he left I was rather lonely. Silverspirit missed her brother as well and we became friends. She helps in the medicine den sometimes and accompanied me when I go out to gather herbs. She’s a great help to me and Dawnshadow. Gatherings are a bit rough for both of us still with Stormfury in Shadowclan. That’s all.”

Spiderpaw looked back at Eclipsesky. "I brought it up because I felt it was our duty to address you about it. We're medicine cats. We're the only ones who follow a code like ours. It's our responsibility to look after each other as well as our Clanmates. At least," he glanced at Lavendersky. "That's what I believe even though I'm only an apprentice. I'm glad to hear our assumptions were misplaced Eclipsesky." Spiderpaw dipped his head to the WindClan medicine cat. "I apologize for being so bold."

Aspenfall sat close to Peachdapple and listened to the current conversation. He wasn't too sure of what was going on - he didn't keep track of the relationships the other medicine cats had - but something about the situation seemed tense.

Dawnshadow looked at her mentor. She was suspicious of her mentor but that wasn’t the business of anyone but her. She glanced at Spiderpaw, wanting to take the attention off Eclipsesky. “I didn’t peg you for a gossip Spiderpaw.” She meowed, trying to lighten the mood.

Peachdapple seemed to be calmly content with Eclipsesky's explanation, though something did seem to flicker in her eyes for a moment, before she merely hummed with a hint of laughter at Dawnshadow's question, able to tell that she was trying to lighten the mood.

Spiderpaw lifted his head a little higher at being called a noble medicine. He couldn't help a glance toward Lavendersky, hoping she approved. However, Dawnshadow's question had him flicking his ear. "I'm not a gossip," he stated rather sharply. "I just concern myself with the well-being of my fellow medicine cats."
