Cedarstar blinked his eyes open. He recognized Goldberry's voice and a few thoughts came into his mind on why the tom would want to speak with him. With a deep breath, Cedarstar sat up. He made sure to double check himself so that no moss was sticking to his scars. He was finally fully healed, but his fur wasn't growing back on his forelegs, chest, and face. Cedarstar licked his paw and ran over his scars to try and smooth them out anyway. "Come in, Goldberry."
Tumblefoot followed after Burninghope. He wasn't sure what they could say, but he'd support her through anything. He blinked, waiting for his eyes to adjust then, flicked his ear seeing Cliffheart in his nest with his back turned to them. Tumblefoot shot an "are you sure?" look at Burninghope.
Longkit twitched his whiskers. He didn't quite agree with his sister. There were far stealthier cats in the Clan. Like Honeypaw or any of the senior warriors. Yet, he let his gray thoughts slip away. They were only kits after all. Longkit stood up. "Sure, but since you already got me. I'm it to start!"

Like Honeypaw or any of the senior warriors. Yet, he let his gray thoughts slip away. They were only kits after all. Longkit stood up. "Sure, but since you already got me. I'm it to start!" Goldberry looked around the leader’s den with a slow look of recognition and weariness. The times he had been in here in his youth had been so different than it was now. Northstar once rested in that same nest...And now, it was Cedarstar. He approached with a dip of his head, though his voice was tinted with a sort of plea. “Cedarstar...I need to talk with you about Coalpaw. I know that there is still alot of strain with Ashrock. I...suppose I wanted to know if he was able to train my son yet. Or if, at least, any Warrior could do so instead?” “Sure I’m sure. Usually when I’m down, whenever my clanmates ushered me up, it made me feel better. Surely Cliffheart will be the same?” Burninghope hoped she felt as confident as she sounded. She padded slowly towards Cliffheart, calling with a hum. “Cliffheart? You up? Ah, Tumblefoot’s been waiting for you for patrol. I’ll join you both too!” She tried. “Alright, alright!” Lightkit exclaimed, her laughter chiming like the wind. “How many heartbeats do I get for a head start?” She asked, poising herself for when he said to start.

Cedarstar flicked his ear. He had a feeling Goldberry would be coming in here to ask about Coalpaw. "I was under the impression he was going out with the other apprentices to train with them and their mentors?" However, saying that aloud, even he knew it wasn't fair to Coalpaw or the other apprentices and their mentors. As much as he cared about training apprentices, why didn't he just rip Coalpaw away from Ashrock? Ashrock certainly didn't deserve Coalpaw after all!
Tumblefoot smirked in amusement at Burninghope. Her passion was always admirable.
Cliffheart flattened his ears, but didn't lift his head to look at Burninghope. He sighed heavily. "Just go away."
"Hm," Longkit tilted his head in thought. His heartrate was slowing down after the shock Lightkit dealt to him. "I'll give twenty!"

Milktooth sat at the far corner of camp. She still felt quite uncomfortable in shadowclan, as everyone was mefiant of her. She could feel short side glances speckling the clearing. She shuffled in her spot, eagerly awaiting Russetshade, her new mentor. She had just been accepted a couple of days ago, so she had expected reluctancy from the cats of shadowclan. Nonetheless, this position still made her uncomfortable.

His heartrate was slowing down after the shock Lightkit dealt to him. "I'll give twenty!" Goldberry hesitated for a few moments, trying to gather the right words. The thought of offending or challenging his leader in any way bringing a flicker of fear into his gut. “I...believe so. He seems to have picked up skills in a mentor’s absence, but...he’s strangely adamant that he be trained by Ashrock. I suppose a part of me is baffled, Coalpaw has scars because of Ashrock’s negligence and...” Goldberry paused, quickly forcing the sliver of anger in him away. Calm. Always remain calm. He righted himself, mewing lightly. “There’s a bond between mentor and apprentice that makes up such a grand part of an apprenticeship. Train as he might with other Warriors and their apprentices, I do not think it is the same.” He looked at Cedarstar, knowing he had to understand, surely. Burninghope winced slightly at Cliffheart’s clear refusal, recognizing the weight in his voice. She coughed, pricking her ears as she tried again. “Well, it’s just. If you stay too long in your nest, your legs will get all tingly, you’ll get matted and stuff. I think some air might work wonders for you.” She urged softly. “I’ll take twenty! Twenty sounds just fine!” Lightkit agreed, delight in her voice. She loved playing tag, especially with her brother. She could tell their mother was watching them by the way her silky purr floated through the air towards them. Maybe Leaffrost would be impressed! “I’m ready!” Lightkit exclaimed.

When she spotted Milktooth sitting awkwardly in the corner of the camp, she sighed. Cedarstar better have a good reason for dumping her on me. She padded to the camp entrance, making sure to pass Milktooth on the way. Her tone was brisk and her pace was non-stopping. "Let's go, kittypet. Time to see what you're made of."

Milktooth flinched at Russetshades words. She had never felt quite so tense in her entire life.. Part for the badger attack, that is. “Y-yes m-mentor Russetshade” she blurted out, still not quite sure how to address anyone in the clan. As Russetshade passed her, she quickly got on all fours to follow suit. Despite the awkwardness in the air, Milktooth couldn’t help but hope that her mentor would be proud of her when she would see her in action today.

Cedarstar's ears tilted back. He couldn't deny he knew exactly what Goldberry was talking about. He felt a special bond with Cardinalblaze with Rustlepaw and his father had so many apprentices he had adored enough to push them to their best. "As admirable as Coalpaw's dedication to my brother is, Ashrock simply cannot be trusted with an apprentice. I'll work on getting Coalpaw assigned to a new mentor if that will ease your concerns, Goldberry. Coalpaw deserves the best when it comes to his training."
Cliffheart gave a light huffed. "It doesn't matter. Eaglesight can go on the patrol with you or Flintclaw. Just go away."
Longkit smirked. "One...Two...Three..."

"It doesn't matter. Eaglesight can go on the patrol with you or Flintclaw. Just go away." Longkit smirked. "One...Two...Three..." Goldberry seemed more relieved at that, though he did give a small noise of thought. “...I...admittedly am the last cat in the clan that can say who is trustworthy or deserving of forgiveness or not. So I will not try to do so. Coalpaw does deserve good training.” His eyes averted for a moment, but they held a wistfulness in them. Loss and memory. “Scorchfire was everything I wanted to be as an apprentice. He was fearless and strong and dedicated to every part of the code, and every cat he knew. To a quiet kit like me...he was like a beam of light in a rainstorm. Training Tumblefoot too, from the day I met him, I knew his heart was full and he had the talent to be something truly great. For the first time in a long time...I felt like I was doing something right and good for Shadowclan, not hurting it. These feelings, these kinds of bonds. These are what I want for Coalpaw.” He admitted. Burninghope glanced back at Tumblefoot. She had never seen Cliffheart act in such a way. He had always been the first ready for patrol, always up for duties before most else. She supposed Owlshadow’s death had struck him harder than anything. She couldn’t blame him. She swallowed, before she mewed. “Well...then at least let us get an apprentice to change out your bedding. How long have you been laying on it?” Lightkit gave little snickers of laughter as she quickly darted away from her brother, trying to look for the best place to get as much distance as she could. She knew to avoid the Warrior’s den, not wanting to get the grumbly Warriors mad. And the Medicine den was a big no too, stepping on berries was really bad. She quickly darted towards the elder’s den.

Russetshade rolled her eyes and slipped through the camp entrance. "You don't have to call me mentor, that's just weird. Now, you've already proven to the Clan that you can hunt, but can you fight?"

"I want that for Coalpaw as well, Goldberry, but I don't believe Ashrock is capable of that." Cedarstar let out a sigh. "I'll choose someone more fitting for Coalpaw, I promise."
"Since last night, after I ate. I'm not an elder, Burninghope. I can take care of my own nest, now go away!" Tumblefoot blinked in surprise at the sharpness in Cliffheart's voice. He had never heard the tom sound like that before. "We're trying to look out for you, Cliffheart, you haven't been yourself lately." "There's no point." Cliffheart tapped his tail. "Go away."
Longkit rolled his eyes in lighthearted goodness for his sister and kept counting.
"I'm just saying that some of the mentors are getting a little lazy with their training." Closesky huffed at Falcontalon whether the other elder was listening or not. "If I was the mentor to any of the Clan's current apprentices, I'd have them out training day and night. They'd get their rest and get their chores done and then its back to training! No more lollygagging around--Oh!" Closesky cut off when he spotted Lightkit entering the elder's den. "Why, hello Lightkit."

Milktooth straightened , “sorry Russetshade…” she started, trailing off already at the end. “ well, my mother taught me some things.. but, I’ve never fought catsbefore.” She said, flicking her ear in slight embarassment. “Well, part for that one encounter with the patrol.” She mumbled near the end, barely audibly. She took a couple of quickened hops to be closer to her mentor’s side. “Why, is that what we’re doing today?” She exclaimed, suddenly excited.

She took a couple of quickened hops to be closer to her mentor’s side. “Why, is that what we’re doing today?” She exclaimed, excitedly. "Every warrior of ShadowClan needs to be able to fight to defend the Clan. Whether clanmates, territory, prey, or pride, a warrior must always be ready and willing to go to tooth and claw." Russetshade barely glanced back at Milktooth. "You never get to pick your enemy, so you have to prepared to fight anything--especially other cats." She stopped and faced the younger she-cat. "ShadowClan became one of the greatest Clans in the forest thanks to our former leader, Northstar, but now that she's gone, the other Clans think they can walk all over us, but we will be respected. You want to join this clan so badly, Milktooth, but you have to be prepared to die for it if necessary."

Milktooth calmed herself quickly, realizing the severity of her mentor’s tone. “Yes of course!” She stated, trying to look at her in the eyes, but to no avail. She looked forwards, suddenly more calm as a sense of purpose overwhelmed her. “I will do everything I can to make you proud. “ she added quietly.

Milktooth slicked her ears the the back of her head, taken aback and embarassed by her retort. “Well.. I.. I want to be here because my mother told me lot’s about shadowclan!” She mewed, immediately regretting saying that aloud. I never learned why she left.. She realized suddenly. “And all the stories I heard of the great warriors made me want to be like you!” She wiggled her muzzle, nervous to hear her reaction. “And… and well… uhm..” She stammered, “We’re in the same clan now.. and You are my teacher..” Milktooth’s skin felt hot and tingly under her fur. She fell back a few steps with her head hung low, anxiously waiting to hear Russetshade’s reply.

Russetshade flicked her ear. She watched Milktooth, studying the way the young she-cat spoke every word. Russetshade inwardly rolled her eyes. Out of all the cats, Cedarstar could pick to mentor this... she sighed. "If you're anything like your mother." Russetshade kept her head up, looking down at Milktooth as she stepped around her. "Then I can understand why she left. She certainly didn't fit in. Look at you! You want to be a warrior? Then tell me your reasons with conviction! Otherwise no one will believe you stand for anything!" Russetshade suddenly slapped her tail under Milktooth's chin. "Keep your head up! ShadowClan warriors do not back away in fear! Paws apart! Keep your stance strong else a kit could knock you over!" She stopped in front of Milktooth and looked her in the eye. "Do you really want this, kittypet? Otherwise, this is a waste of my time!"

Milktooth flinched, standing up straight quickly. Inwardly, she felt like running away, finding a hole, curling up in it and never coming back. But she knew this was her only chance of survival. And she also had such an admiration for the clan.. Being a member of Shadowcland had never felt so close, yet so far away. But she didn’t give up then, and she wouldnt give up now. She looked Russetshade in the eyes, pushing all her feelings down.. so far down, and summoned the fire of survival in her eyes. “I want to be a part of shadowclan, Ment- .. Russetshade!” She meowed loudly. Why am I so bad at talking! She angrily thought to herself immediately afterwards.

Russetshade huffed. "Well at least you can improve--even if it's just a little. Come on." She flicked her tail for Milktooth to follow her. "We're going to the Burnt Sycamore, that's where we're do most of our training. If you manage prove you have some fight in you, we'll go back to the Burnt Syacmore tomorrow. Cedarstar doesn't want you assigned to any border patrols yet, so you focus on training at the Burnt Sycamore and going on hunting patrols. Do you understand?"

Milktooth copied her mentor’s stance. She didn’t have good depth perception, but all the training with her mother helped her gage average distances. She wanted to show this skill off first. After a few paces, and tail flicks she put most of her weight on her back legs. Suddenly, she sprung up, twisting in mid air to land on Russetshade’s back, with the intention of knocking her down. Her claws were sheathed. She landed square on her back with the leap and hold technique she learned as a kit.

Russetshade held her ground, but had to shift her paws to keep her stance when Milktooth's weight was suddenly applied to her back. However, she wasn't the strongest fighter in the Clan and Milktooth's added weight was a little more than she could handle. Russetshade flattened her ears and controlled her fall, rolling so that she got Milktooth off of herself. "Not bad."

Milktooth rolled away and back onto her paws quickly, ears perking up at the compliment. With a small boost of confidence, she then lunged fowards, aiming to sweep at Russetshade’s front legs with her paw. If I can get her on the ground, I can do the finishing belly rake move and then she’ll see me as a peer! She thought to herself hopefully, remembering her mother’s favorite fighting sequences

(Hey sorry i fell asleep last night) Milktooth leaped backwards after getting swatted in the face, putting distance between them so that she could shake it off. She sniffed and tried to learn from her mistakes, jumping towards russetshade once more. This time, she kept her eyes on Russetshade’s paws, trying to make it seem like she was about to make the same mistake before swinging her paw to strike the top of her head.
