"It's not a matter of thinking poorly of them." Honeypaw mewed. Typically, he would have been sharp and cool at this point, but his voice only came out as a light breath. "It's a matter of following patterns. Shadowclan has never had a popular reputation amongst the other clans. They could very well see how many cats we've lost...and take it as a chance to take advantage of us. We have to be ready, no matter what."
"I...appreciate it." Cardinalblaze nodded once, though he gazed at his mentor as if he was trying to decipher something. His ears fell a bit, but he soon righted himself and admitted. "I...I suppose I feel guilty, because I haven't felt the sheer pain that Raccoonmask does. I...I don't know if something's wrong with me. Maybe it hasn't set in...But, we were never a normal litter, were we?" He chuckled weakly, before he sighed, softly serious again. "Cliffheart showed me how to climb the cliffs. Without him, I would have been useless out there. But, I'm grateful you trusted me to go on the mission...it means alot to me."

Sootwhisker entered the camp, letting out an amused purr as he saw the eager Rowanpaw. “Excited for the gathering?” He asked.

"And we are ready." Whorlpaw huffed and shook her head. "But we've done good things for the other Clans, they even respected Northstar! They won't try anything on us!"
"Everyone grieves differently, Cardinalblaze." Cedarstar lightly shrugged in awkwardness of the topic. He definitely needed to work on his counseling skills. "I never knew my mother, but I grieved for her. Kinkfire would get so upset she wouldn't talk about her and Ashrock...well..." Cedarstar shook his head, Ashrock was the last example he needed to use when it came to grieving. The tom was as emotionless as a boulder. "I trust you with a lot Cardinalblaze. You're a good warrior. I knew you would be able to learn from Cliffheart fast enough to keep up in SkyClan's territory. Thank you for taking the risk of going out there."
"I'm super excited." Rowanpaw grinned back at his mentor. "I can't wait to see the other Clans and the other leaders! I saw Swiftstar, but the other apprentices said that Earthstar and Lightningstar are bigger and that Spiritstar looks like a small apprentice compared them. Is that true?"

“...Northstar is no longer with us.” Honeypaw murmured, meaning no disrespect, but speaking honestly. “Cedarstar was badly burned. Good deeds may not be enough to warrant the other clans’ debt. The fire was...unlike anything I have ever seen. I wouldn’t be surprised if the other clans did nothing but quarrel.” He admitted.
“Roseleaf was...” Cardinalblaze took a deep breath, willing to admit to his inner thoughts. “She was strained, and suffered. She lost her kits, her heart...her mind, even. When we learned the truth, my greatest fear was that she would not love me, or my sisters...somehow, even with who we were, and how we were created, I knew she still loved us. I knew Quailfrost loved us as well, even if she had never been one to express things like that...That is how I will remember them.” He admitted, shuffling his paws lightly. “I would do it again, without question. I only hope the other clans will remember our help.”

Sootwhisker smiled. “It certainly is.” He confirmed with a nod. “Just make sure when you’re there you don’t spill any ShadowClan secrets, alright? Some cats from the other clans might try to get information from you because you’re a new apprentice and they’ll think you’re naive, so just be mindful of what you say.” He advised.

Falcontalon heaved himself up out of the elder's den, his shoulder was starting to ache in the colder weather, he turned towards the nursery with a frown, hoping Pearlkit would be okay through the colder moons.
Starrylight purred as she watched Duskpaw perform a new fighting move she had learned.
Duskpaw tucked and rolled, let out a small victory yowl as she returned to her feet.
Cherryvine groaned as she moved in her nest within the nursery. The young queen felt she could hardly move her belly was so big. "These kits better show up soon." she grumbled to herself.

Whorlpaw's expression grew a bit more serious when she watched Honeypaw. "When the other Clans see how badly my father was burned, they'll realize his bravery. He'll be respected just like Northstar was!"
Cedarstar flicked his ear twice. He had been there for Starrylight when the truth came out about Roseleaf and Goldberry. It had angered him. How could Roseleaf betray a cat like Falcontalon for a tom she never cared for in the first place? It was one of the hardest things he'd ever thought he do at the time, but he managed to just be there to support Starrylight. If she wanted to speak with her mother, he would be there with her. If she wanted to hold a grudge, he would share the load. And it was harder when Cardinalblaze became his apprentice, but after time he realized Northstar had done that intentionally so that he and Starrylight could grow beyond the transgressions of Roseleaf. Despite all that...he wasn't sure what to say to Cardinalblaze now. "Roseleaf and Quailfrost were great warriors," despite what faults they had, he added quietly. "The Clan suffers with their loss like with everyone else lost to the flames." He attempted a reassuring smile at his former apprentice; however, the rapid flick of his ear betrayed his doubts. "I certainly hope the other Clans remember this kindness of ours as well. We'll likely find out the answer to that question at the gathering tonight." He looked toward the camp entrance and let out a slow sigh. It was going to be a long and hard walk to the gathering...at least for him.
"You alright?" Closesky padded next to Falcontalon, noticing the younger tom's light stiffness. "Not growing old on me, are you?"
"Nice!" Palepaw padded over to Duskpaw and purred at the way she preformed the move. "You did that so flawlessly. I've been working on that move for a while and haven't quite gotten it yet."

Rowanpaw nodded curtly. "Of course, Sootwhisker. I'll keep my lips shut about the Clan. I really want to hear more about the other Clans anyway than just talk about ShadowClan."

Falcontalon nodded, giving Closesky a remorseful look. "The colder weather is just reminding me of my injuries from Honeyleap." he mewed, his tail lashing at the thought of the traitor. "I'm sure it'll pass as I move around some more." The tom stretched, ruffling out his fur as a cool leaffall breeze gusted through the barren, scorched trees. "I'm afraid of what our leafbare may look like." he confided quietly. "Our clan is already hungry and leaffall isn't even halfway over."
Duskpaw beamed at Palepaw, "I can help you if you want! I'm sure Starrylight can too."
Starrylight purred quietly. "Of course I can, if you want Palepaw."

Closesky nodded in agreement and his gaze trailed over to Cedarstar. This would be his son's first full leaf bare as leader. He didn't want it to be harder than it already was. "I'm concerned too. If prey doesn't come back soon, we'll be entering leaf bare starving."
"Yeah!" Palepaw perked up. "I'm gonna be the best fighter in the clan! So, I need to perfect all my moves!

Falcontalon sighed, curling his tail around his paws as he took as seat next to the other elder. "I'm worried as well that there may be territory disputes, all the clans are injured and hungry most likely. No clan should come for us since we warned them about the fire, but who knows. Sometimes hungry bellies lead to desperate attacks."
Starrylight sat up a bit straighter as she glanced over her son, "Now Palepaw, can you try the move? If I see what's causing you trouble perhaps I can find a solution for you."
Duskpaw scampered over to sit by their mother, watching Palepaw curiously.

He snapped his gaze at her, mewing tersely. “Are you certain? Will they see him as brave? Will they?” He shook a bit, suddenly turning his eyes away and shaking his head quickly. “...Brave. Yes...yeah. I guess that is indeed...indeed brave.” He decided, having not looked at Cedarstar since he was burned, but knowing how the burn scorches must have torn his pelt apart. The thought of it made him feel sick. Cardinalblaze was silent for a moment, knowing his mentor’s ticks better than most. He did not speak of it, focusing instead on his mentor’s second words. “If they do not, I certainly will be rather cross. It wasn’t easy getting through the territory.” He murmured.

Closesky nodded in agreement and looked back at Falcontalon. "I considered that. Leaf-bare has always been hardest on us over the other Clans. If SkyClan still continues to neglect its borders, then we might get the opportunity to temporarily expand our borders, but surely, Spiritstar has learned from that mistake already."
Palepaw nodded curtly and crouched into a near perfect battle stance. He leapt up and twisted into a strike like Duskpaw did; however, his balance wavered in the air and his landing was clumsy. He was close to getting it down--battle training being his favorite passtime other than spending time with his sisters--however, it brought a frown to his face when he landed so awkwardly. He wanted to get it right.
"Of course they will!" Whorlpaw actually bared her teeth at Honeypaw. "How else would anyone view him? My father was the bravest cat in the whole forest after staying in that fire for so long! Anyone who doesn't see that isn't worthy enough to be a warrior!"
Cardinalblaze's comment actually twitched amusement in Cedarstar's whiskers. He looked back at his former apprentice. "I'm sure it wasn't. If Spiritstar decides she isn't in our favor, I'll have to mention that to her."

“Do you honestly think he feels brave?” Honeypaw asked Whorlpaw, his eyes drooping. He did not want to fight, and yet Whorlpaw’s blinding optimism was becoming too much for him to handle. “I bet he didn’t. I bet nobody did. But you expect him to be this...this perfect, fearless leader. You think they’ll only see the deeds he did to gain those burns. I bet many will only see that he is burned.” He muttered, claws working at the sand. “You honestly think the other clans will thank us for anything? Hmph...” He shook his head bluntly, though a part of him was envious at how sure she sounded, as if she knew her father was the valiant figure she believed him to be. He imagined his own father as leader. Would he have been just as supportive no matter the situation?
“...I suppose so, though at least I know she is more gracious than most.” Cardinalblaze gave a slightly humored flick of his whiskers in return.

I really want to hear more about the other Clans anyway than just talk about ShadowClan." ”Alright, I have complete faith in you Rowanpaw. Don’t let me down.” Sootwhisker feel his pelt warm lightly with pride, happy that he was given such a diligent young cat as an apprentice. “I’m sure the other clans’ apprentices will be looking forward to meeting you.”

"Don't you know anything?!" Whorlpaw snapped at him. She couldn't understand why he was so negative all the time. The Clan didn't need negativity at a time like this! Everything was going to work out fine because it had too. She wouldn't be able to handle anything else going wrong. "Being brave isn't about feeling brave! It's about doing the right thing no matter how you feel! My father could've been terrified the entire time he was in those flames, but he stayed for the sake of the Clan! He put the Clan over his fears and that's what made him brave! My father isn't perfect--he told me so himself, but he's still the greatest cat to walk this forest! The other Clans will be grateful to my father and ShadowClan, you'll see! You're just a sour-puss because you got stuck in a tree!"
Cedarstar flicked his ear again and glanced at Cardinalblaze. "That's what she lets us believe anyway. She was the one to deliver the final death to Robinstar. Spiritstar was a medicine cat at that time and she broke her vow to do no harm when she killed her sister. I don't care that StarClan forgave her and made her leader, her word can't be easily trusted." He shook his head and sighed. He shouldn't be saying this, he didn't want to worry his Clan. He knew that Cliffheart would swear up and down that Spiritstar was reasonable and trustworthy, but a medicine cat being chosen to lead because she ended Robinstar once and for all didn't seem right. After everything he's been through, Cliffheart wouldn't been the better choice in my opinion. Cedarstar flicked his ear again and glanced over at the warrior's den. Cliffheart was sitting alone outside of it while waiting to leave for Fourtrees. But StarClan hasn't forgiven him and if he had been chosen as leader, we wouldn't have him here, that thought churned his stomach. He didn't think ShadowClan would be the same without Cliffheart. Cedarstar looked back at Cardinalblaze. "The same could be said about any of the leaders, though. Just because we helped Lightningstar take back his Clan and warned Earthstar, Spiritstar, and Swiftstar of the fire, that doesn't mean they'll see themselves as in our debt. We'll have to be careful moving forward."

He bristled at her blatant blindness to reality, unable to imagine how a cat could be so entrenched in such foolishness. “You think it was just being stuck in some tree? You think that’s all it was? Your father wasn’t the only cat in those flames, and he’s one of the lucky ones! He got out! He may spend the rest of his life covered in burns, but do you think the other clans will dip their heads at his bravery?” He scoffed tightly, before he narrowed his eyes. “If you put so much blind faith in anyone, even your kin...then what are you going to do when they don’t match your expectations, Whorlpaw?” Cardinalblaze gazed at Cedarstar thoughtfully for a moment, before his gaze flickered to the side, and he admitted finally. “I saw her run back...just like you did. I saw her pull cats up the cliffs as if she had the sky in her paws. You may be right, that it is foolish to trust words blindly...and yet, I suppose I was moved by her actions rather than her words. Maybe it was always her destiny to be a leader, to stop Robinstar. To inevitably break her vow. I wasn’t alive for that dark time, but...I saw leadership there, Cedarstar, just as I saw yours.”

I'm worried how many more we may lose to injuries or starvation if we don't find a solution soon. I know Cedarstar and Cloudscar are doing everything they can, and I commend their efforts but trying to find prey is not the same as finding it." The tom shook his head, eyes dull. "I've become so cynical, too much was lost." Starrylight watched the young apprentice's every move, humming quietly as she watched him land. She tapped her tail on the ground quietly as she attempted to form a way for him to correct his balance issue. Duskpaw looked from her mother to her brother, watching with bated breath for Starrylight's advice. Starrylight got to her paws, moving towards Palepaw. "I think your problem is after you strike, your not pulling your paw in quick enough. Remember, your balance is at the center of your body, by keeping your paw extended for too long, it pulls your balance off center and your landing is clumsy. Also remember to use your tail to your advantage. If you feel yourself falling a certain way, flick your tail in the opposite direction and will help you return to your center."

(Is Lilypaw still there, Blazer? I think its funny that's she just letting these two argue XD)
"I know he wasn't the only one in that fire!" Whorlpaw lashed her tail and glared at Honeypaw. "How stupid do you think I am?! I saw how many cats died! I was at the vigil for them!" She was lightly trembling, her optimistic mask cracking with the fear she hid in her heart. She, her mother, and her siblings were one of the first ones out of the flames because her father made them run. Meanwhile, he stayed behind and he could've become another body the elders buried, but StarClan answered her prayers and allowed her father to make it out. Those burns would always be a reminder of how close she came to losing him, how close she came to never being able to play or train with him again. "He stayed behind to try and save our clanmates and there's nothing more valiant than that! If the other Clans don't realize that, I'll make them understand!" She shook her head, getting so worked up that tears were welling in her eyes and she wanted to banish them away. "Who cares if I'm putting so much blind faith in others? At least I have the ability to do so. You don't even have faith in yourself!"
Cedarstar flicked his ear again. He had been born in the highstones camp, but had been too young to remember it. By the time he opened his eyes, the Dark Battle was over and he was back in ShadowClan. He grew up on the stories told by the Clans though and seen Spiritstar with his own eyes at gatherings, but the older he got, the more he couldn't understand why a medicine cat was chosen to be leader. Medicine cats weren't bound so much by the code like leaders were and most medicine cats didn't know how to fight. "It's good to hear that Spiritstar cares so deeply for her Clan she would run into the flames." Cedarstar glanced at Cardinalblaze and flicked his tail. He still wasn't sure what to think about Spiritstar. He had only been leader at one gathering and he didn't interact much with her then. "But I believe any leader would do such a thing for their own Clan." He idly glanced down at his burned paws before calmly scanning the camp. StarClan, he hoped he was being at least a good enough leader for his Clanmates. He hoped that Cardinalblaze's words were right. It was almost embarrassing to think that a former medicine cat was more comfortable at being a leader than he was. Spiritstar had more experience and seemed to be doing things right for her Clan and here he was unable to help his Clan rebuild. I have been too idle lately, he decided. "We can only expect Spiritstar to put SkyClan first. I don't expect her to show the same gratitude to us that Swiftstar did." At least he knew that Swiftstar acknowledged that WindClan was in ShadowClan's debt.
"Perhaps you and I could go on a hunting patrol later then?" Closesky nudged Falcontalon lightly. "It might help both of us feel better. We might even be able to find Gregory and Shimmer. I know Cedarstar wanted to contact them, but I don't think anyone in the Clan has yet."
Palepaw listened intently to his mother and the flick of his tail indicated his thoughts to improve his execution of the move. "I know what you mean." Palepaw smiled back at his mother. "Let me try again!" He backed away to give himself room before crouching again and springing up to try the move. After his strike, Palepaw pulled his paw back in; however, he did so too quickly and wasn't able to correct himself with his tail, he ended up landing on his shoulder and an annoyed hiss escaped his mouth.

(You right XD ) “I-you-“ Honeypaw stammered, caught off guard by the sudden show of tears from his clanmate. Her words struck like thorns in his chest, finding himself unable to come up with an argument for it. A quiet part of himself agreed with her words, a part he had always tried to crush beneath his training and his controlled persona. He didn’t have faith, not even in himself. He blinked at her, only to be cut off by Lilypaw’s sudden hiss of order. “Enough! Are you both kits? Do you think you’re doing Shadowclan any favors by squabbling right now? I suggest you both start acting like grown Warriors if you ever plan on becoming one!” She barked, a rare show of aggravation coming from the tiny she-cat. Honeypaw closed his jaws, grateful for the excuse to not have to find words to respond with, but still reeling over Whorlpaw’s blunt accusation. “Maybe she’ll feel more inclined to if she sees Cliffheart or me present.” Cardinalblaze offered, suddenly glad to be going to the gathering. He looked at Cedarstar, trying to decipher his leader’s clearly muddled thoughts, only to give up once he realized not even he could. He instead dipped his head to Cedarstar. “No matter what, the other clans will have to at least recognize our ability to rebuild even in the darkest of moments. That surely counts for something.”

Starrylight gasped, rushing to fuss over Palepaw as he crashed to the ground "Are you okay?"
Duskpaw's eyes went wide, scampering after Starrylight to look at Palepaw, "That was so close!" she mewed meekly, trying to cheer him up.

(We're still shipping Honey and Whorl, right?)
Whorlpaw intently stared at Honeypaw, waiting his reply, but when Lilypaw spoke up, she shook her head. Lilypaw was right. They shouldn't be squabbling, but it wasn't her fault that Honeypaw was such a frog-brain. She looked away from both of them. "The other Clans will respect my father, you'll see," she muttered mostly to herself.
Cedarstar nodded in quiet agreement. He didn't want to admit it, but he even he knew that Cliffheart was one of the factors that kept the peace between SkyClan and ShadowClan. Spiritstar lost a lot of her kin to the darkness of AdderClan, with Cliffheart her only sibling left, Cedarstar hoped she wouldn't try anything against ShadowClan. "ShadowClan can certainly rebuild." Cedarstar looked around the camp once again, noticing how different everything looked compared to when they first returned. The dens were nearly rebuild and the camp had the bone structure of a wall around it. "Everyone has done a great job." Cedarstar idly glanced at the nursery, remembering the first time he reinforced it with Starrylight. "I should've been helping with everything." He didn't mean to slip those words out, but it was true. He should've done more to help the Clan after such a deadly fire and yet, he had just been laying in Northstar's den and dreaming about black-eyed cat.
Closesky shook his head for Falcontalon not to worry. "I'm doing alright. I'm keeping myself busy, keeping active. Honestly, I always hated how lazy elders could be and I don't want to be like that."
"I'm alright." Palepaw huffed and pulled himself to his paws. He shook out his pelt to shake off the screw up. "But I want to try again. I know I can get it." He looked at Duskpaw. "Would you mind showing me again?"

(Yep!)
“...Hmph.” Honeypaw grunted, turning his head sharply with a lack of a verbal response. There was none to be had, for once he couldn’t come up with a clever quip. He found it both infuriating and confounding, how she could be so faithful in others. How could someone be so optimistic, after all of this? He refused to admit that he wished he understood.
Lilypaw’s fur flattened with a sigh, and she looked between the younger apprentices. “You know, I bet you two would be grand friends if you learned to accept your differences. Maybe being too faithful and not faithful enough are both the wrong way to go about it. Or maybe you should learn to look through eachother’s eyes. Until then, please stop arguing my ears off!” She seemed to imitate her mentor for a moment, tossing her eyes.
“Don’t blame yourself.” Cardinalblaze shook his head lightly. “You’ll do no good opening your burns and getting an infection. You jumped into flames to protect your clan. The least we can do is make sure you get rest.” He fretted.

(Can't wait to see how we turn that around ) Whorlpaw flicked her ear once and looked at Lilypaw. "Sorry, Lilypaw," she muttered quietly, but she didn't acknowledge what Lilypaw said about Honeypaw. See through his eyes? He was so gloomy and negative all the time, why would she want to do that? Cedarstar's ears fell back. He remained in the flames to help the Clan and yet, he only managed to save Littlemoon. "So Snowdance likes to tell me." Cedarstar sighed and lifted his paw to look at the burns that twisted his skin. It was still tender and tight and it hurt to move, but he needed to loosen up if he was going to make it to the gathering. Cedarstar slowly stood up to stretch his muscles. After being stuck in the leader's den so long, he felt like he needed to run ShadowClan's entire border just to get back into shape. He grit his teeth when his burns stretched with his muscles, but managed to keep the pain from wincing on his face. Instead, he dug his claws into the ground. It hurt more to stretch his claws especially after he used them to try and free Owlshadow and the others trapped in the flaming dens, but he needed the movement.

Now that the air’s clear, we can focus on the gathering. Please tell me you two won’t chatter off about stuff like this.” Lilypaw sighed. “We won’t.” Honeypaw grunted at his cousin sternly, hating when Lilypaw or her siblings treated him like a kit. “I certainly won’t.” He cast a glance at Whorlpaw, before turning away pointedly, stubborn once again. “Don’t strain yourself.” Cardinalblaze fretted again, though it was moreso his natural anxiety in these types of situations. Seeing Falcontalon’s scar for the first time had set off the same reaction.

(Hey Fox.)
Whorlpaw lightly frowned at Lilypaw. "I know how to act at a gathering, Lilypaw."
"I need to stretch myself out." Cedarstar's voice was a little strained when he relaxed from the stretch. "I have to make it to fourtrees after all." And jump on the Great Rock, he thought with nervousness. "I'm alright, Cardinalblaze."
