- Victoire
Victoire actually tended to prefer hanging around mean people, so that worked out well. There was no real reason for it, she just found herself enjoying their company far more than she did that of a kinder, soft-spoken person. She wouldn't even care if Cal wanted to be "King Bee." He wasn't a female, so it wouldn't bother her. The only thing it would mean for her would be that she needed to talk to him more, since obviously the King and Queen of Slytherin needed to be friends, but that thought didn't bother her. It was just when a girl did it, because she quite liked her position at the top, and wasn't willing to give it up quite yet. Especially not to someone like Vienna. "You're a lot cuter than her too." The honey-coated words that fell out of Victoire's mouth very well could be lies, but for once, they weren't. She saw Vienna as a hideous person, both inside and out, so of course she found Cal more attractive than her. "If it weren't for her, I'm sure there would be girls swarming all over you, and boys as well, wanting to be friends with the most popular boy at Hogwarts. They just don't bother to actually judge you based on yourself." She seemed perfectly happy to boost his ego, something odd for her. Typically she was insulting boys. "I brought this upon myself?" She arched one eyebrow, faking ignorance. "And how? I just wanted to be a nice person and give a poor, cold underclassmen my scarf." Yeah, he was only a year younger than her, probably only a few months actually, her having just turned seventeen, but she could still refer to him as an underclassmen, since he was in his sixth year while she was in her seventh. "They're probably too dumb to even realize everyone is freezing their butts off over here," she grumbled, following his gaze over to the teacher's table, but quickly changed the subject. "So, I'm considering dyeing my hair." Kind of random, but Victoire brought up random subjects a lot. "What do you think? Would I look hideous with colored hair?" ─────✧─────- Alex
"Oh..." Alex gave her a sheepish smile, though he didn't look overly apologetic. "Yeah, I get sick easily, so I thought it would be a good idea to bundle up since it's so cold. I guess I went a bit overboard, huh?" That was a major understatement. Alex was pretty paranoid, though, so it made sense that he would feel the need to wrap himself up in so many layers, even thought he wouldn't possible need that much. "Potions?" His eyes seemed to light up a bit, and he nodded. "Yeah! That's my best subject." Only because he was good at memorizing things. He could memorize ingredients, instructions, etc...easy enough. When it came to things like Defense Against the Dark Arts, though, you had to be able to make it work...which is where Alex had issues. "Why?"

- Nikolai
Ari sure had a strange reaction to receiving his jacket...oh well. Nikolai wasn't concerned enough to ponder it more. At least she hadn't thrown it onto the ground - that would've been disappointing, though he would've been more angry than anything. He was very attached to his jacket, after all, and was still a bit reluctant to part with it. He was sure Ari wouldn't do anything to ruin it, though, so he tried to relax. "I don't know. Someone should try and talk to the headmaster about it." He certainly wasn't going to. He was scary! And despite being put in Gryffindor, Nikolai wasn't brave enough to face her. "Or do either of you know any spells to make it warmer in here? I'm sure everyone else would appreciate it too."

"I'm working on creating my own potion. But it always blows up in my face or does something else entirely. I've done the research for everything it should need, but I think I'm missing something. There's some variable I can't see, some small change I have to make to get it to work. If it can even work..." Samantha said, looking back at her notes. She was aware of how crazy her idea was, and how complex the solution would have to be. That's why she'd spent three years working on just the first part of the problem. There were still multiple steps she'd have to figure out after this one. But she was determined, even if it took the best years of her life.

"I might have a spell that could work," Aria said immediately. She had been reading over spells last night, not having much else to do and stumbled upon a spell that was used to warm up objects. She pulled out her wand, which was in a small pocket she had sewn into her robe during the summer, and pointed the wand at her friends t-shirt, muttering the word "Callesco," A warm light emitting from her sycamore wand. She glanced at Nikolai, waiting to see if the spell had worked or not, clutching his still-warm jacket with her right hand to create a secondary cloak over her shoulders.

✒[ Kailey Peters | 16 | Gryffindor ] "I may ask her later," Kailey murmured as Nikolai mentioned asking the headmaster. Kailey knew the headmaster slightly better than most students, but only because she used to get in quite a bit of trouble. Kailey was still fairly afraid of her, but now that she hadn't seen her for a few months Kailey was fairly certain McGonagall would be nicer. Probably. Maybe. She couldn't help but let her mind scramble over this new unidentified problem, she even considered coming back to the Great Hall during her free time to test a few spells on it and see what happened. She glanced up as Arianna began to cast the spell, and was fairly impressed by her wand work. Kailey always tried to rush spells, which usually meant she had to try more than once. Arianna however seemed to do it as simply as writing her name. Template made by Gengar ♀

In all honesty, Cal had never really thought of striving for King of Slytherin. He surely had the means to, with his personality, family, and being Keeper on their school Quidditch team, but he never considered it. But now that it had been brought up in casual conversation...he could definitely overtake the seventh year that held the position. It would definitely boost him higher than Vienna, and it would drive her nuts. It would be hysterical to see Vienna and Victoire fight it out for Queen, too. He wouldn't hate it.
When Victoire started complimenting him, it immediately made Cal suspicious. Victoire, by no means, was one to compliment those of his gender. He decided to tread the water, but at the same time, he figured as long as he didn't put too much of himself out there, Victoire couldn't do anything to him. "I like to say I'm the most attractive of us three," Cal preened. "And I'm sure if Vienna didn't exist, I'd be swarmed all the time."
However, as soon as she pulled the upperclassman-versus-lowerclassman card, he groaned, throwing his head back. It was slightly absurd to think of himself, a sixth year, a lowerclassman, but it was true. She was only a handful of months older than he was, but still. When Victoire turned the topic back to the CHILL in the air, he grumbled a response. "They only care about our NEWTs and OWLs. Anything else, why should they care about us?"
Then Victoire hit him with the dyeing hair comment. Cal brought his eyes to the girl's face and studied her intently. "No," he said bluntly. Cal had no filter; even though this was the truth, his not having a filter also meant he couldn't sugarcoat anything. This added to why non-Slytherins weren't crazy about him. "You wouldn't look good. I wouldn't suggest it." Hey, she asked for his opinion, and that's what she got.

- Victoire
Hysterical? Maybe. But it would be bad for the Slytherin house, which might be the only reason Vienna had not tried to fight her for the Queen position Victoire had snagged during the last portion of her fifth year. She'd tried for it before then, but up until that point, there was nothing helping her. She had not yet grown beautiful, nor was she as outspoken as she was now. Fifth year had definitely been a huge change for her. Anyways, because she'd been in the position of power for so long, a sudden change to someone else having that title would take getting use to, and the fights that were sure to spark between Victoire and Vienna would cause them to lose house points, as fighting wasn't allowed, and would surely be awkward for everyone. It was true that Victoire didn't often compliment males, as she preferred to get compliments from them instead, but she wasn't exactly lying. However, she did have a motive behind it. She wanted Cal to like her. She often wanted males to just leave her alone, but she found him interesting, and having him as a friend would be beneficial to him. Being rude wouldn't really help her cause. "You and your siblings? Well, I can't say when it comes to your brother, I haven't seen him much, but between you and Vienna? Definitely. And you're already swarmed....kind of. Just less obviously." Rumors among the Slytherin house, like who liked who, were something that always got back to Victoire. Always. Cal's groan made her grin, as she found it amusing that something as petty as that bothered him. Then again, if someone a year older than her tried calling her an underclassmen...she probably would've punched them. But now she was on top, in her very last year, so no one could do that anymore. "Oh. Those." She wrinkled up her nose in disgust. She did decent on those, but only because she was very good at taking tests. She never actually knew the material, so if she hadn't learned how to manipulate her words to make her answer sound correct no matter what, she would've failed every test she took. She wasn't dumb, but she also wasn't smart, so nothing she learned in class ever made sense to her. His response surprised her, clearly, and she blinked at him for a few moments. "You think so?" She hadn't expected him to be honest. Most people would've said that she would've looked beautiful no matter what...she wasn't sure how she felt about his answer. But, he was being truthful, which wasn't something she disliked in a person. She didn't want a liar for a friend. "Yeah, I would've done it just to piss off my mom anyways." That was actually true. She had no interest in dyeing her hair, nor had she ever wanted to get the piercings she had, she just liked messing with her mother. She was still the favorite child, though. "Thank you for your honesty." She rested a hand on his arm, which wasn't uncommon for her. She had a habit of being overly touchy sometimes. "I appreciate it." ─────✧─────- Alex
"Creating your own potion? Woah! That's so cool!" Alex was easy to impress, so it wasn't surprising that he looked at her in awe after she said that. It was amazing to him - someone as young as her already trying that? He wouldn't be able to do it...or that's what he thought. Who knew what would happen if he actually tried it. "Well, if you want, I'm always happy to help. I can't guarantee I'll be able to catch what you're doing wrong, you're probably a lot better than I am, but I'll try." He seemed very eager to help, in fact. He liked being useful, and the idea of helping someone make a potion was exciting. "Can I read over your notes?"

- Nikolai
"You do?" Nikolai tilted his head to the side in a curious manner, watching as she cast the spell. He had expected it to be something that would warm up the entire room, or at least their area, so was caught off guard when she pointed her wand directly at him. Immediately, though, warmth flooded his shirt, and he grinned at her. "You're a genius!" He hadn't even thought of that spell - he tended to forget completely about spells the second they became useful, which was rather irritating. "And yeah, I'll go with you if you would like. I know she can be scary." Just as long as he didn't have to talk...if he did, then there was no way she was dragging him in there.

She gave him a bashful smile, shrugging, "I just read it in the spells book last night, it's nothing special," she said quickly, brushing off the compliment, not used to having people actually comment on her wand work. A product of being a Ravenclaw, everyone being an over achiever. "I could go with, too, if you wanted too." She was on fairly good terms with the Headmistress, but she had recently gotten in trouble for forging a professors note to check out some books from the restricted section. Hopefully she forgot about that by now, it had been a month.

✒[ Kailey Peters | 16 | Gryffindor ] Kailey beamed at them, glad to hear they were willing to come along. "Egg-cellent," Kailey said as she pulled the scrambled eggs to her. She pushed them away quickly after, irritated to find that it was mostly already gone. All that was left was the underdone pieces. "We could go after breakfast," Kailey suggested. She had a free period immediately after, and she was fairly certain half the school did. Template made by Gengar ♀

"Yeah, sure! Go ahead and take a look. I'm working on the very first part right now. In the end, it will be pretty complex, more like multiple potions working together to reach one effect," Samantha sighed, remembering her almost unattainable goal. Her project was definitely still years in the making, even though this was her second year of work. The beginning had been hours of research, and she was only now on the trouble shooting section after her third test. "This part is supposed to hold the very essence of magic, the thing everyone here posses. But not like it creates it's own, more like a liquid storage container you pour your own magic into. Then another wizard could pull it out and use it. It would still have the distinct flavor of you and your wand, the same weaknesses and strengths, the same power. But they could use it like it was there own." There was a distinct sound of hope in her voice, but also dejection, almost as if she wasn't sure she would ever be able to do it.

- Alex
"Ah, okay! Thank you." Alex eagerly took the notes, looking over them with a very focused look on his face. He couldn't be serious about much, but potions was something he was very passionate about. "Really?" So that's what she wanted to do? Odd. Alex didn't think he would want to use that potion. He didn't want anyone else to be able to access his magic. Even if he wasn't the best at it, everyone had their own different way of using magic, and he didn't want anyone else being able to use his. Still, that wouldn't keep him from helping. "Well, how long have you been working on this?" He asked as he read, wanting to get some background information as well.
─────✧─────
- Nikolai
"Well, I wouldn't have thought of it." Nikolai didn't much like how she was brushing off the compliment, rather than just saying thank you, but he didn't mention it. Still, he wasn't particularly good at hiding his emotions, and a hint of irritation was easy to see on his face. "If you want to." He didn't know how well a group of three would work, as one or two would probably be easier for the Headmaster to deal with, but he didn't say anything about that either. It was just a good idea for him to be quiet right now. "Egg-cellent?" He had to crack a smile at that. He loved puns, after all, even if he didn't seem like the kind of person who would. "Sure. That works." None of them had any classes, since, well, it was Christmas break, so school wasn't exactly in session.
