Aarow looked a bit torn by this. He wasn't sure if he could really make good use of anything this creature could offer him since he couldn't even figure out an effective stance to use the shield with. That, and there were other priorities.
"Actually, do you know the way out of these woods? Or maybe to a water source? I don't mean to sound ungrateful for your offer, but these woods are just impossible to navigate." He asked. It had been quite some time since he'd had a view of the sky not blocked out by the towering trees, and the last source of water he'd passed had been pretty overgrown with algae and he was very certain he'd seen a few parasite-looking insects flitting around in it, and that had been hours ago.

Trockor quickly seized the opportunity to lie once more. So far this was almost too easy for him. The last prey he caught was a lot more hesitant, and too smart for their own good.
"Why yes, I do know where some water is!" He tilted his head and bit to the side. "Only if you're willing to follow. It's not too far from here."

(It's alright. Dialogue usually calls for more back and forth.)
Aarow gave a small nod, offering a smile. "Thank you." He replied, starting to get up. The aches in his body caused him to hesitated a little. He hadn't been all that big on physical activity when he'd been dropped here, or whatever the saying was they used to describe people who got lost here, and now he was sore from walking (and running) for nearly eight days now. He made a small sound at his body's protest, followed by a tired sigh. Water would help, he told himself. He could sit down and rest when they got to the water.

Trockor nodded and turned around, walking off in the same direction that he had come from. He seemed to be all cheery and happy with the way he sort of danced a little as he was travelling. He was doing his absolute best to not look suspicious.
"So, any friends or family? Just trying to pass some time while we're heading on to the water!"

Aarow gave a small frown as he gathered his things and walked after the shorter creature.
"No, it's just me. It's always been." He replied tiredly. He wasn't too excited at the idea of explaining that comment, but the words kind of just happened. He was still getting used to being around another person(?) after being lost in the woods. It wasn't like he talked to a lot of other people back home, but he at least had little interactions with store clerks and anyone else who was forced to deal with other people.

(I'm back!)
Hayden jumped at the sudden sound of rustling leaves to her left. There was no gust of wind to shake the branches; there's something in there. That could mean anything in a world like this, especially when she is so confused and alone. Would this have happened if she had stayed home? If she'd turned one street earlier? Barely daring to breathe, Hayden tries to rush past the source of the noise.

"That's a shame." He commented. "I have a few friends. Most are far away though, so I rarely see 'em." He veered off to the right, into a dense part of the forest. The trees here seemed more clustered together, and the undergrowth was almost unbearable to walk through, but eventually a path appeared on the ground. and the trees became more spread out.
He could see the den off in the distance, letting him know that they were close to their destination. "See that cliff far on over there? We pass by it, and there'll be some clean water."

(Hellow Ice~)
Morte heard the rustling near by as the scent of the Wanderer started to grow further away. He began to dismiss it, they probably wouldn't react well to seeing him anyways. He started to pick up the vole and turn back to his den when he remembered what was in the direction the Wanderer had fled. It made him pause. They weren't his responsibility, but they were probably headed for trouble. He dropped the vole and dashed after them, moving like water through the brambles and thorny bushes.
--
Aarow did his best to keep up, squeezing and pushing through the thick vegetation. He did his best to keep his balance and stay on his feet, though he stumbled a few times.
He gave a small nod when the creature pointed out the cliff. "Oh... thank you." He commented quietly as he continued forward just a few paces behind the creature. He began to look around, again cautious of the new area. Primarily of the trees. He'd seen something similar to a large spider drop from the canopy and ambush a large deer-like creature only yesterday. Didn't most of the nature documentaries say there were usually things living near water?

For a blessed moment, Hayden thought she was in the clear. The rustling didn't follow her, not even as she started to lightly jog. Until it did. She sped up, glancing behind her as she ran, but she saw nothing except the shaking branches before turning around to avoid tripping and hurting herself even more. Her ankle ached with every heavy step, but she couldn't stop, not when she was being chased by whatever that thing was.

Morte did his best to keep with the Wanderer, moving out of the bushes in order to move as quickly as his legs could carry him. Once he was able to match her pace just behind her, he lunged forward and caught the leg of her pants in his beak. He was careful not to catch the skin underneath (he didn't want a fight). He dug his claws into the ground to make her stop, holding fast.

Trockor had the urge to laugh out loud, but he forced himself not to. He could do that after Majerlian appeared from his little home. He stopped right when they reached the small cave, and he turned his to Arrow. "Wait here for a moment, this is where I found some of those nice items.. I'll be back."
He jumped up and hovered a bit above the ground, his wings flapping rather quickly. He sped off into the darkness of the cave, his glowing white eyes only visible for a few seconds until they too disappeared from sight.
It seemed like ages, though truthfully it had probably only been about three minutes. Suddenly Trockor zipped out from the dark reaches of the den, but instead of meeting back up with Aarow he landed up on top of the cliff. The ground started to rumble a bit, and Trockor simply grinned and waved to the human below as Majerlian burst out from where he was previously resting, shaking some dirt off from himself. The large beast focused its eyes on Aarow, breathing heavily and growling in a threatening manner.
"Sorry pal, but I kind of lied to you. Oh well!"

Had someone asked her, Hayden would have guessed that she would scream and try to escape. It seems like a reasonable thing to do. However, the reality of the situation is that she fell roughly to the ground when the beast grabbed her pant leg and when she turned to see what had caught her, she froze completely. Nothing like him existed on earth. He had a beak and skin that was translucent, at least as far as she could see in the fading sunlight. He had claws as well, and a tail that was just as terrifying as anything else. Fear of this strange creature left her motionless, simply staring up at him from the ground.
"I'm dead," she whispered softly with a trembling voice.

Morte released her as soon as he realized she'd lost her balance. The look on the Wanderer's face made him want to back up and retreat, and he couldn't help but to click his beak a few times. He'd stopped her, but he had to keep her from going forward. The best course of action, it seemed, was to move between her and the direction she'd been running. He took his steps slowly, watching her with cautious eyes. Once he had moved in front of her, he spoke, each word requiring a great effort on his part. Words were difficult with a beak, and his vocal cords were more limited than other creatures.
"You must not go this way." He croaked. "Predator's territory. She will drop from the sky and eat you."
-
Aarow's heart froze when his eyes met the creature's. He heard the smaller creature's words, though he couldn't reply. Had he been able, he'd have admitted the creature hadn't been the first to lie to him. It did look like he might be the last to do so, though...
He was frozen a moment as he tried to think of what to do. He wanted to run, but turning his back to the creature would probably be the fastest way to get himself knocked down. He didn't have any combat experience, he'd always fled... The only thing he could think to do was to raise his shield up to protect himself. He still wasn't certain what a flimsy wooden shield would do against the beast, but it was all he had.

Majerlian hadn't immediately attacked, fortunately for Aarow. He simply observed the pathetic excuse of a shield he had held in front of him. He sniffed and then sunk his teeth into the wood of the shield, yanking it away from the smaller human and tossing it aside.
His voice rumbled as he talked, which he rarely ever did, "A small shield like that won't do any good against me, boy. I thought you'd at least be smart enough to figure that out.."

The last thing Hayden expected of the monster was for him to speak. He also hadn't attacked her yet, so she quickly pulled herself to her feet and back a few more feet away from the strange creature before her. He wasn't that large now that she was standing again. Strange by her standards, yes, but not necessarily dangerous if it had already let her live this long.
"You're not going to eat me?" she asked warily.

Aarow couldn't think of any response to give, so he just gave a small shrug of his shoulders. He'd been more or less helpless with the shield, not having it wasn't really going to make him any different. He remembered his pouch, but there wasn't anything useful in there. Everyone talked about how keys were good to use in a pinch, but he doubted the key would even put a scratch on the thing. He still had a few berries, but it didn't look like it cared about that. Or the candy. As he recalled it, his hand went to his bag.
If his number was really up, he want that piece of candy.
He pulled the sweet out and started to unwrap it, though he still looked at the creature, watching it carefully. He wasn't sure why it hadn't closed the gap between them and taken him out yet, but whatever he still had a moment or two.
--
Morte shook his head. Seeing she was nervous, he didn't move any closer and he stayed where he was. He took a breath before speaking again. "You might be new, but you are too big. I couldn't hunt you." He replied. Perhaps not the most comforting answer, but honest.

"..." He watched him carefully, spotting a small item in his hand. He wasn't sure of what it was, but he didn't care. He had to hurry up and kill the human so he could finally eat something.
Majerlian growled and bared his fangs, bounding forward and lifting up one of his front paws. He struck foward to knock Aarow aside into one of the trees.

The creature didn't say wouldn't, only couldn't. It's... more than a little off-putting, but it's the best she's going to get. Hayden releases a heavy, relieved sigh and nods. If it can't eat her, then she doesn't have to worry about whether or not it would. She straightens up and brushes some of the dirt off of her clothes.
"Where are we, anyway?" she asks, glancing around at the foreign forest. "And - not to be rude - what are you? I've never seen anything like you before."

Aarow hadn't even gotten the candy to his mouth before he'd been knocked over. He made a small sound when he hit the tree, his ears ringing badly. The taffy had been knocked out of his hands, lost somewhere. Shame...
Though the hit still had him dizzy, he started to stand up, leaning one hand on the tree for a little support. He wasn't very quick to get up - that had been the first time he'd taken a hit here and he hadn't realized the power behind the creatures just yet. He didn't have any way of fighting, but some part of him wanted to do something other than just roll over and get killed.
--
Morte listened to her, flicking his tail as he thought of how to answer. Right, she wouldn't know. She was new.
With another breath, he spoke. "This is the unknown. I'm an inh... inh..." The word 'inhabitant' wouldn't form. "I live here. There are lots of other creatures everywhere."

He stalked closer to the human, his eyes and mouth glowing intensely. He wasn't just fooling around, he was serious about what he was doing. "I've had better prey before... you're nothing but a bug to me, easy to kill."
Once he was right in front of Aarow he ducked his head swiftly and chomped down on his leg, dragging him away from the tree and back out into the clearing. He shook him around a bit as if he was just some kind of rag doll, then let go and stared down at him. "I'm not going to complain though, a meal is a meal, no matter how pitiful it is."

(Same. I gotta go soon. I'll be back after class tomorrow, though..)
Aarow cried out as he was bit and dragged, unable to pull free or to do anything against being thrown around. When he hit the ground, he gave a small wince, trying to sit up. "I know I'm weak... Quit rubbing it in." He retorted. As he put his hand back to support himself, it landed on a rock. It wasn't really a conscious decision, more of he found it and it just sort of happened, but he swung forward, releasing the rock and throwing it at the beast's head. He tried to stand, but the pain in his leg brought him back down.

The creature's response was unsettling in an entirely different way that 'couldn't eat you' was. The warning of creatures all around was just as ominous as the place's vague name.
"What sort of place is called the unknown?" she asked, crossing her thin arms over her small frame. "Do you know how I can get home?"
Her life at home was not exactly an exciting one, but she worked hard to get a decent job alongside her classes at the local community college. She even had some scholarships to help her pay and a high enough GPA to get into a nearby university when she was done with her second year of community college. She worked hard for everything she has and she didn't want to simply let that go now.

"A place that is not known." Morte replied with a short cough. "I do not know a way out. I do not think creatures can leave."
It had required quite a breath to get those words out, and he was left coughing again. Once he had collected himself, he stood a bit straighter. "Follow. Forest is dangerous after dark." He told her, starting to walk back toward the hollow tree.

Hayden glances behind her, but follows quickly. If the creature is unfriendly, she is already dead. If it is telling the truth, it will be saving her life. She has no way to know yet.
"What is your name?" she asks as she jogs forward to catch up.

Motre hesitated at that. He actually couldn't pronounce his full name, though there wouldn't be any harm in just letting her call him by what he could say. "Morte." He replied shortly, still requiring quite a breath to manage that single word.
In all honesty this could have got much more poorly than it did. She could have tried to fight him or ignored him and kept running. He was glad for that. As they approached the tree, he moved around it to show her the opening. "Hide here. I am going back out."
