(I’d be okay with him getting stuck as Alder for a while, maybe making things feel uncomfortable in the clan bc it’ll feel like he wasn’t acknowledged even though there was nothing he could do about it. But I’m also super curious to know what his name is gonna be so I kinda want to come up with some other way for him to get his name xD) “Hm?” Alder turned to face the leader, shaking his head. “I haven’t. I’ve been to the borders but beyond catching the scent of another clan, I haven’t seen anyone.” But then, he smiled. “I’m looking forward to meeting the other medicine cats. I know my knowledge of herbs can’t be complete, so I’d love to hear more perspectives. From what I know, even though they’re from different clans, the other medicine cats tend to get along well, right?” Earth could probably lose a life distracting/leading the Prey Maulers away long enough for them to reach and use the Moonstone. RiverClan desperately needs a medicine cat, so I think we can find a way for him to get his name!) Earthstar twitched his whiskers as he thought of each Clan's medicine cats. "Sometimes, yes," he answered. "From prickly to friendly, they are all extremely dedicated to their position. There's much to learn from what they have experienced. In particular, Peachdapple of ThunderClan, Snowdance of ShadowClan, and Lavendersky of SkyClan have seen many moons of service." he explained. "And that's not even considering those who have joined StarClan and communicate with us through dreams and the Moonstone." (Great!) Alder sniffed the air as they reached the far end of their territory. He hadn’t spent much time out this far, partly due to fear of other clans when he didn’t officially belong to Riverclan yet, and partly due to wanting to keep close in case of an emergency. But with Quietpaw able to cover things while they were gone, perhaps he could take more time to explore this end of things. “Starclan seems quite distant,” he mused. “But there must be warriors you know there.” Tentatively, he asked, “Do you ever get to… meet with cats you miss? Do they seem happy? What sort of things have they told you about? Prophecies? Omens?” Though he had medicine down, interpreting signs and listening to ancestors that were not his own seemed a faraway idea.

Birchtail’s ears twitched as her own loud snore woke her. She groggily blinked awake, confusion clouding her head for a minute before realizing her hunting dream had been just that - a dream. She sighed, then slowly picked her way out of the nest to sit in the clearing, hunched and trying to will away the sleepiness weighing her down.
Slatefur smiled on seeing his bedraggled granddaughter, thinking back on how tough warrior life had been. Still, he left her to wake up, grabbing a mouthful of minnows and dragging them back to the elder’s den.

She yawned, humming. “You wake yourself up again? What’s this, like, the third time now?” She teased.

"Oh, there are so many... you often don't know what to expect when speaking with StarClan." He glanced up at the darkening sky, wondering which stars would be shining tonight. "What keeps my faith strongest is being able to see those who have passed. Even when there are warnings of darkness, or an omen I don't understand, seeing friends and family I haven't seen in moons gives me new resolve. I know it's where I belong once my time in RiverClan has ended." He looked back at Alder as they continued on their journey. "I believe there are many cats who are eagerly waiting to meet you. Many medicine cats of the past, and maybe even one of our old leaders." he purred, thinking of Rain. "I'm certain everything will start to make sense once you see it for yourself."

Truthfully, there was a kitlike buzz of excitement beneath his skin, but he tried to keep the spring out of his step. Alder followed Earthstar’s gaze to the sky as stars began to peek out. He wondered what it would be like to look down on the world like those in silverpelt did.

I wasn’t all that asleep anyway.” Swanflight assured, tapping her friend’s shoulder with her tail as she admitted. “I need to start getting up earlier anyway. Koishade and Iciclestep are always up early, that’s why they get the better patrols.” She sighed dramatically.

Hope you get a good one.” She stretched out her front legs, flicking her tail toward the sky in a long stretch. “But I like the nighttime too much to go to sleep early enough. Seeing silverpelt every night is better than seeing the dawn, in my opinion. Especially seeing the stars reflected in the river.”

Earthstar halted to look at Alder. "We're almost there. This is Mothermouth, and inside is the Moonstone. This is how we'll speak with StarClan." He looked forward to seeing his companion's reaction to the Moonstone for the first time; it was truly something behind the Clan's comprehension.

Still, he chose to trust the leader’s words. Glancing at the sky he murmured, “Moon’s rising. We should get moving, right?”

Swanflight agreed, flicking her tail as she offered. "Next time, I'll stay up with you. It sounds alot more fun chatting with you than trying to get Salmonsplash's tail out of my muzzle when I try and sleep." She humored, cackling at her brother's sleepy antics. She looked at her friend and mewed. "To think we now know what that mysterious fur we found belongs to... and it of course happens to be something awful." She shuddered.

It’s kinda scary.” She looked down at her paws. “Maybe I should be trying a little harder, getting up early for patrol. Especially since it sounds like the other clans have had run-ins. I’m almost nervous to hear what’ll happen at the next Gathering.”

So long as we keep that up, no prey-mauler can even come close.” She decided, confidence in her words.

I'll go in first, and you can follow behind by trailing my tail." Earthstar mewed with a flick of his ear. Slipping into the cave, he paused for a moment as an unusual, faint scent hit him. Was that scent always in Mothermouth? In either case, it was quite stale, and they had to press forward. He could feel his heart thump in his chest as the two were enveloped in darkness. Coming to this place always made the leader feel this way.

Coming to this place always made the leader feel this way. As darkness closed around them and the only sound became their own scrabbling on the rocks, tension lined his chest. The stale, musty scent was overpowering. Just when he thought he’d suffocate in the darkness, he felt the space around him grow larger. They stood in a massive cave, and through a hole far above, he could see pinpricks of starlight peeking through. He opened his mouth to say something, then stopped. Some of the elders had warned him to stay silent on this leg of the journey. Still, he cast a sidelong glance at Earthstar, wondering what would happen next.

I wonder if there are any patrols going out, or anything that needs doing.”
