Littleshadow laughed moving to the side to help reinforce the reeds protecting the camp. "I will miss training, I really liked being a mentor. But the extra time with you is definitely the opposite of a problem." she teased, brushing her tail against his shoulder. "Maybe you'll get a chance to train one of Minnowtail's kits! They've only got a moon or two left until they're apprentices." "Apprentices are super fun. Minkstep was great, I'm still surprised I got the chance to mentor her. I was still pretty new to Clan life." Owlwhisker chuckled in agreement. Training was fun, and being a mentor was something he was proud of. Even more though, he enjoyed her affections, and mewed. "Who knows. Maybe Earthstar will give you one too, and we can be mentors together. Then we can still spend time together while also doing mentoring!"

Littleshadow flicked her tail looking mischievous, "Well maybe, but I might not be in the right shape to train by then. You never know what could happen." she replied with a giggle, quickly turning to weave more of the reeds together. Once turned around, she held her breath as she waited for his response. She was nervous about what he might think, if he even caught what she was hinting at.

Is your leg going to fall off? Oh Starclan, just like that old tom in the alleyway! Don’t tell me you’re going to join Starclan soon, I couldn’t bear to see you go!” He exclaimed, ears flat with worry and franticness.

Littleshadow sighed, but couldn't help but laugh at his sudden panic. She took a deep breath, calming down again before continuing, "No you furball. I was hoping I'd be in the nursery by then. Perhaps with some kits? I'm perfectly healthy, and I'm pretty sure my legs are well attached."

He stared at her, jaws open with shock, before he breathed out. “Oh… Oh! You… you mean that. You’re. Right now, like?” He looked at her stomach before he felt a wave of emotions. “Really really?”

Littleshadow gave a small nod, smile wide on her face as she pressed closer to him. "Well, I haven't actually gone to see Specklecreek about it yet, but I was talking to Tinypool yesterday and she said it sounded like I was expecting kits! Can you believe it?" Ever since she was a young apprentice, Littleshadow had dreamed of one day having her own kits, and now here she was, perhaps pregnant with her own!

That- that’s like! A huge deal!” Owlwhisker exclaimed, buzzing with both nerves and excitement. He had never imagined he’d ever even have the chance to have kits. His mother had left him and Tessa to fend for themselves so long ago, but he remembered how Tessa had cared for him more than their mother ever did. He would have to remember exactly how Tessa had done it, if he was to take care of kits! He gave Littleshadow a bright smile as he seemed to bounce on his toes. “That’s so exciting! They’re gonna be the best kits ever!”

Mousepaw camp, the medicine den The she-cat watched as Puddlepaw and Foxripple exchanged words, and observed them closely. She found herself intrigued by their conversation, and felt empathy for Puddlepaw as he spoke. Though she didn't say anything, she hoped he could feel her sympathy.

(I think we can say Owl and Koi are back Blazer so you don't have to clone him anymore lol) Earthstar entered the medicine cat den and gave a curt nod to Mousepaw. "Greetings, Mousepaw," he said, looking over at Puddlepaw. "I hope you've been taking care of Puddlepaw. I heard what happened from Nightflame." he began, sitting and curling his tail over his paws. His green eyes stared calmly at the apprentice, waiting to hear what he had to say. "Okay!" Glacierpaw mewed, happy that he did well on the move. He readied himself once more and struck his mentor again, turning to kick backwards like he said. "It was tough..." Winterfrost admitted after a moment, showing a rare glimpse of vulnerability for the she-cat. Loners had to prove that they could survive on their own; showing any weakness could make enemies of any cat they encountered. "I am sad that Hornetstrike and Diamondheart ended up in two different worlds, but I am also glad that they survived and are able to live the lives they choose for themselves." Winterfrost had heard of Rain from Clan stories. Part of her wondered what her life had been like if she had joined the Clan earlier than she did. "She must have faced much adversity of her own." (Bet, lmao) Puddlepaw shuffled his paws a bit, doing his best to hold his leader's gaze to not seem like a coward. He wished Mousepaw didn't have to see his embarrassment. Puddlepaw swallowed and started speaking. "I was trying to fish for the Clan. And at first, I did it right. It was perfect, I caught that fish, it was massive! The current was weak, and the water was fine, it's just... the current got stronger, and it pulled me in. I know that Nightflame didn't say I could go out that far yet. I was just... We'd been working so long on techniques that I already knew, I wanted to continue with advanced training." Puddlepaw murmured. "I'm grateful that she pulled me out of the water, I only wish I could have brought that fish back..." Foxripple stumbled at the strength of the tom's sweep, though he was able to lean enough to dodge the first attempt. Foxripple nodded. "Good. Your technique is solid, all you need is some faster speed." "I didn't know her... or the leader who came after her." Frostmoon murmured, wishing she had known both when they were alive. She looked up at Winterfrost and mewed evenly. "After Rain was my grandfather. The clan doesn't talk about him, and mother certainly doesn't but... I know of him. Back then, times were different, cats in the clans could be... harsher. All I know, is that I would do all I can to keep us safe and strong." She nodded, then admitted. "I didn't like to see my father and my cousin, Frostmoon, being in battle against eachother. So I understand that it must be hard for you too." Earthstar hummed in thought and listened carefully. Puddlepaw's intentions were good, but he was clearly unprepared for advanced training in strong currents. "I understand that you wanted to prove yourself to RiverClan, and that everything went well at first... but you should've listened to Nightflame." he chastised gently, keeping his eyes on the apprentice. "She is one of our toughest warriors. If she says you aren't ready for something, you should trust her word." His eyes hardened in seriousness. "Your life isn't worth a fish in the river. I have had to witness drownings over the moons, and they could all have been prevented." the tom took a quick breath as he continued. "I don't want to discourage you, but I'm going to have to give you a punishment." Glacierpaw took his mentor's advice and tried the move again with a faster pace. However, his form was more sloppy as a result of the faster move. Winterfrost wasn't familiar with the RiverClan leaders aside from Rain and Earthstar, and she flicked an ear at the idea of the Clan being harsher. She wondered what it meant, but dismissed the thought. "It is difficult, but I also feel reassured knowing that ThunderClan teaches them well. They can hold their own in a fight and I won't have to worry about them getting hurt." she said. "Do you think they feel the same about us?"

Puddlepaw felt his ears fall flat when he heard Earthstar's words, but even he wasn't foolish enough to argue with the leader. He didn't want to think about the cats Earthstar was referring to, not wanting to think that he could have drowned and died, sinking to the bottom of the river, never to be seen again. Even so, he shuffled his paws and rasped out. "Yeah... I know... Nightflame and Brookheart already told me I would be..." He assumed he would be picking ticks and doing more boring chores mixed in with his regular training. He could take that! Foxripple was able to withstand Glacierpaw's initial attack this time, ducking below his kick and giving a small chuckle. "Well, you're a sharp listener, but now that's a bit too fast. Balance is the key here. Too fast and you'll lose your technique, too slow and it'll be easy to dodge. Keep trying, once more." "They'll certainly have to now, seeing as we took Sunningrocks rather easily." Fluffcloud mewed evenly, knowing that Riverclan was doing better in terms of prey and safe territory compared to the other clans after the fire. Riverclan was more than capable of sharing that luck if the other clans could see the benefit in unifying under them. Thunderclan would be the hardest to persuade, but she also knew that surely they were wearing down after the defeat. She looked at her grandmother and mewed. "Father has to lead most of the battles, I doubt they doubt his ability to hold his own."

Littleshadow purred, overjoyed that her mate was just as excited as she was. “I’ve always wanted kits of my own. And I can’t imagine having them with anyone else. We’re going to be parents! Of Owlwhisker, you’re gonna be the best father. I just know it.” She exclaimed, touching her nose to his cheek.

He didn't know that she had wanted kits so intently, but now he was happy to know that it was something she wanted.

Earthstar felt reassured that Nightflame and Brookheart had already spoken with Puddlepaw. If his words did nothing to reach the apprentice, he hoped their words would convince him to take a step back. As much as he didn't want to punish Puddlepaw, he didn't want him trying any more advanced moves so quickly after his accident in the river. "Then I hope you will adjust to the next moon," he spoke. "Your punishment will be confinement in camp until you have recovered and until Nightflame and I agree that you are ready to take on your training again." he ordered.
Glacierpaw felt a pang of frustration under his pelt. "I'll try again," he huffed, starting to feel a bit tired from all the training. He took the stance and kicked out again, trying to find the sweet spot between too fast and too slow. As he kicked, he felt like he had done it and watched for Foxripple's reaction.
"We've had Sunningrocks for a while now." Winterfrost added. "Lightningstar must be eager to reclaim them, but they must not be strong enough in Leafbare." she mewed. She could picture a Leafbare Sunningrocks battle, with Diamondheart's stark white pelt blending in with snow as blood fell to the soil. "I would think so. If I had to face Earthstar and my son with claws out, I would not be feeling too confident."

Mousepaw camp, the medicine den After listening closely to Earthstar and Puddlepaw, trying to make herself seem unsuspicious by reorganizing herbs, her jaw dropped at the word 'confinement'. She felt horrible for Puddlepaw, though she knew he had to have some sort of punishment. She tried to shake herself free of the conversation, as she turned away and continued to perform her duties.

Puddlepaw felt his heart sink, and he wanted to shout out that he would fall behind with the other apprentices, how would he possibly catch up to Airpaw and Stormpaw now? For a moment, he was tempted to do just that. But, with Mousepaw watching and the Clan surely listening, all he could do was silently look at his paws, turning his head away and shrugging sharply. “Okay…” He muttered, feeling angry and miserable. For a split second, he wished Nightflame was never even there, he wished for a mentor that believed in him, like Foxripple believed in Glacierpaw, or Specklecreek believed in Mousepaw. This time, Foxripple was successfully struck by the attack, and he fell to the ground with a grunt. He shook the water from his fur before he stood up and nodded. “There we go! See? Not so bad once you get the hang of it!” Fluffcloud inwardly wondered how Winterfrost would react to the pure strength of Adderstar and Robinstar, if she was able to credit Earthstar and Diamondheart for theirs. Watching them fight in the Dark Forest was like watching a dance, entrancing and almost thrilling to learn. She hoped one day she could be renowned for her strength. Looking at Winterfrost, she mewed. “I just hope that Thunderclan and the other Clans don’t suffer in this leafbare. Even if we’re loyal to Riverclan.”

Littleshadow sat, settling her tail over her paws, unable to remove the smile from her face. "It'll be a long while until the kits are here. Luckily I don't think they'll arrive until we're well into newleaf. That makes me feel much better knowing that our prey pile should be well stocked by the time they're around. I want them to get to be kits without much worry."

Owlwhisker beamed, meaning every word even if it sounded rather blunt and laughable. He tipped his head, suddenly seeming a bit pouty. "Aw. This means you'll have to be in the nursery, huh? "In the meantime, I'm sure you'll find ways to retain some normalcy in camp." he spoke. He imagined Nightflame and Brookheart would have some more choice words for the apprentice now that the punishment was enacted, as well as some typical apprentice duties. However, he felt a flicker of doubt as he started to make his way out of the den. Puddlepaw was clearly upset about his training situation and held a desire to learn more. If advanced training was what he desired, Earthstar couldn't help but think of the Dark Forest. I hope this punishment isn't a mistake."I got it," Glacierpaw breathed in satisfaction. All it would take is a little more practice. He glanced up at the sky and noticed the beginning traces of a sunset, looking back at his mentor. "Are there any other moves you want to teach me today?" Winterfrost let her tail rest along Fluffcloud's back for a moment. "A noble statement. Despite our loyalties, nobody wants to see cats needlessly suffer. That's part of what drew me to the Clans after everything that had happened."

He watched Earthstar leave from the den, and he felt a wave of something new and hollow fill him. Earthstar and Nightflame and his father didn't care how much he tried, how badly he wanted to be a great Riverclan Warrior like they were. He could already hear Airpaw and Stormpaw and the other apprentices laughing now, that he fell in the river and got pulled out like a fool and couldn't even bring home the fish to prove it. And now, he would be stuck here, and he would have to watch everyone else learn the training that he was ready for, and had been ready for. Puddlepaw abruptly turned and padded towards the makeshift nest Specklecreek and Mousepaw had made him, and slumped into it, facing the medicine den walls and tucking away from everyone. He just wanted to go away, and not have to be here. "Hmm... Well, we can try the ducking splash." Foxripple smirked. "How'd you like to learn to toss a cat or two right into the water with your back?" Fluffcloud brightened at her grandmother's words, assuming that she was understanding the kind of mindset she wanted to see if the Clans united. There would be no needless suffering from battles or squabbles if there were no more borders to fight over. She smiled. "Exactly. It's the core of being a Warrior. We all share that honor."

Though her mood soured at the thought of other clans on their territory, a little relief flittered through her. Earthstar was wise, and she would trust in him. Birchtail slowed at the entrance to camp, not wanting to cause alarm. However, fear scent and unease drifted off her in waves. She entered, searching for signs of their deputy or leader. (Frozen we might need earthstar?) (We can have them get Frozen after he talks to Puddlepaw in the medicine den, if we want to pause for a lil bit to let that happen. Or, they can talk to Diamondheart first!) Diamondheart turned his head as soon as he noticed Birchtail and Swanflight running towards camp. The deputy began to pad towards them, concern in his eyes as he called to Birchtail and Swanflight through the camp entrance. "What has you two in such a hurry? Is everything alright?" Birchtail kneaded the ground anxiously. “Can we talk to you,” her ears twitched and her voice quieted, “somewhere quietly?” She glanced warily around, not wanting to cause a panic. “It might be nothing, but…” she hesitated to say anything more.

"Nothing wouldn't require secrecy. It's important, I can tell you're worried. What happened?" He asked, calm and serious. Swanflight and Birchtail had no reason to fib or cause a startle unless it was something genuinely important.

Birchtail kneaded the ground anxiously. “Can we talk to you,” her ears twitched and her voice quieted, “somewhere quietly?” She glanced warily around, not wanting to cause a panic. “It might be nothing, but…” she hesitated to say anything more. Diamondheart's eyes flashed with concern as he stepped close to Birchtail and Swanflight, sweeping his tail towards one of the corners of camp before he lowered his voice. "Nothing wouldn't require secrecy. It's important, I can tell you're worried. What happened?" He asked, calm and serious. Swanflight and Birchtail had no reason to fib or cause a startle unless it was something genuinely important. ”We found something at the old twoleg bridge,” she explained as they shuffled into the corner of camp. Backed by the reeds and being calmly listened to, a bit of her panic faded. “A big clump of coarse, long fur - I’ve never seen anything like it. And the smell, it stank like crowfood. It’s probably been there a few days, but we caught a little bit of the scent. Thankfully it didn’t head deeper into our territory, but,” she paused, “it went into Thunderclan territory. Diamondheart, there’s something about it, this wasn’t any fox or badger, but it must have been huge!”

His ears flicked as Birchtail described the odd fur near the twoleg bridge. While most would assume it was just a badger or fox fur, Diamondheart could tell by Birchtail and Swanflight’s statures that it was no mere fox or badger. “It’s true, Diamondheart. It didn’t look like any color fur I’ve seen before on a pelt. But it felt real, and it wasn’t just a piece of crowfood down the river. It was tucked in a corner, like it was pulled off of something passing.” She reported. Diamondheart nodded. “I see. Thank you both, I’m glad that you made it back here. We can notify Earthstar immediately. He just finished speaking to Puddlepaw after he had an incident in the river today, and Nightflame pulled him out. He should be… there!” As if on time, he spotted Earthstar slipping from the medicine den, and he began to pad towards the large brown tom.

She didn’t have long to dwell on it as Diamondheart made his way over. She hung back a respectful few tail-lengths in case Diamondheart needed any clarification or there were any questions from Earthstar.

Smokestream stepped slowly back toward home, the cold stinging her sodden pelt. She stopped to clean some of the water off her legs and chest, but already the chill air was seeping into her joints, making it hard for her to get the worst of the water off her back. As enjoyable as her swims were, she couldn’t help the tiredness overwhelming her.
She sat down, just to the side of the path and rested for a short while. She was feeling weaker these days, though she didn’t dare tell Slatefur. The old tom’s worry would have been stifling.
She tucked her paws beneath her, fluffed up her thinning coat, and willed warmth into her old bones.

Swanflight fretted, turning to look at the medicine den with concern. The river was awfully cold this time of the year too, and she knew Puddlepaw had a tendency to rush into things. His pride was both his strength and his weakness, but no cat deserved a fall in the river. Diamondheart assured. "It seems he was uninjured, just shaken up from the experience. Specklecreek and Mousepaw are tending to him. I imagine Earthstar has just made sure he was okay." The deputy made his way towards Earthstar then, mewing steadily. "Earthstar. Birchtail and Swanflight are reporting they've seen something odd near the Twoleg bridge. I think you may want to hear it, we may need to send a patrol to investigate." He admitted. ( Frozen for you when you're ready!)

Earthstar met Diamondheart with a serious look in his eyes. Had something else happened while he was talking to Puddlepaw in the medicine cat den? "Something odd?" he repeated, flattening his ears. "We can afford to send a patrol, but can you describe what it was?" he said, turning to Swanflight and Birchtail. If it were near the Twoleg bridge, perhaps it was a strange object. Those creatures seemed to leave bizarre things on the bridge on occasion.
"Tossing a cat into the water?" Glacierpaw echoed. "Am I... large enough to do that?" he questioned. Was this an advanced move that Foxripple was teaching him?
"And no kind of blood in your body can dispute that." Winterfrost added, always thankful that she was allowed to join despite being a loner. It was her actions that contributed to RiverClan, not the fact that she had their blood.

Massive and foul-smelling,” Birchtail reported, eyes still wide at the thought. “It wasn’t crowfood, but it certainly smelled that way. It was lodged in the river. I followed the scent for a short while but it was heading toward Thunderclan territory.” The fur on her back was still raised. She forced herself to sit and pull her tail over her paws to try and calm down. “It was coarse like a fox, but wasn’t something I’d ever seen before.”
