but yeah the whole tamino parents thing was added in simply because of the situation. tamino is an opera cat, therefore he had to be from the city (or at least have relatives from the city). he isn't an outsider so much as a stranger coming back to his long-forgotten home, unlike original tamino who just kind of showed up from... somewhere ig.
original tamino was a prince. taking away that was the first change I made to the story (besides obvious offensive stuff being removed) because 1) where would other cat kingdoms be and 2) it added nothing to the story.

I'm disappointed I couldn't come up with a worse/better gnome pun than "gnomederful" but on the other hand if I could I think it would speak volumes about me and not necessarily in a complimentary way

i like his more snakey like head honestly ever since I first saw the character the first thing I thought of was "he's a snake" and ever since then with every drawing I make of him he is slowly getting slimmer and pointier. it just makes sense thematically (and suits his character). also snakes are afraid of birds, of course. plot relevance? what no haha that has no plot relevance at all! |

update: putting this in a fight simulator rn
MONOSTATOS
strengths:
-Is a banded krait and thus is venomous to the point of being deadly.
-Can shapeshift.
-Has killed at least one cat before.
weaknesses:
-Dirty coward who can easily be repelled by spoken threat.
-Afraid of birds.
-Too whiny to actually be much of a threat.
PAPAGENO
strengths:
-Is a Maine Coon and thus is pretty big and strong by default.
-Has a rope. (Says his rope fixes everything; whether or not this is true can be debated).
-Can probably take a lot of abuse, given he works for the Three Ladies.
weaknesses:
-Very gentle and wouldn't want to harm anyone.
-Coward who can easily be repelled by spoken threat.
-Sometimes is too depressed to actually do anything or care.
I mean I think it's obvious who will win but I might as well try and see.

Monostatos would probably be too stupid to realize Papageno is holding a rope and not another snake so if he wasnt already fleeing at the sight of the bird hat he'd think Papageno is doing unspeakable things to another snake and be mortified.
OR Maybe hed think the rope was a female snake and want to rescue and seduce her. But he'd only bite and ruin the bird hat and steal the rope leaving Papageno confused as to what just happened and upset at the loss of his hat.

I ship it. the rope is the only good ensemble character tbh I mean both monostatos and the rope can be used to strangle things (banded krait bites can cause suffocation, and the rope... I mean it's a rope after all) so there's that monostatos can be intelligent- and scarily so- but it doesn't appear to be common enough that he uses it regularly. papageno isn't intelligent at all (usually, anyway) but he has a very good instinct. |
