Icefeather glanced to see Fernwhisker arrive. She was slightly disappointed Fernwhisker had come with them; he was known for his temper back at home, though he was a pretty good warrior.
She figured she might have a chance getting past the monsters, being WindClan and all, but it didn't seem worth the risk, especially since she preferred everyone to be alive. "Perhaps we could turn back and head through one of the other ways?"

Fernwhisker huffed quietly at Flarefur, but was obviously beaten, so he didn't say anything else. He watched Icefeather carefully, a reserved look of interest on his face. He had an unreadable expression on his face, one that said he knew what the group thought of him but revealed nothing of his feelings about it.
He was thinking hard. He couldn't remember seeing a pathway branching off now, but if they just pushed through the undergrowth...
"It could work." he finally admitted.

"Let's give it a shot then," Al meows, raising his voice with ears flattening back as another monster roars past.
A series of skill checks will be made. The first two are not essential to pass, but will give both bonuses and/or penalties to the next check.
The roar of monsters makes it hard to concentrate... Focus Checks of either 4 or 7 will help, though.

Leafheart attempted to concentrate. (Spirit:3 + Focus:0 = 3)

The roar is too much for Leafheart. The growls cut into her focus like sharp claws. No matter how hard she tries, focusing won't help her in her next check.

Flarefur try's to focus on the task at hand. (Spirit 3 + Focus 0 = 3)

(I thought I remembered how to play this but tbh I've kind of forgotten how to focus check. If this is wrong please tell me and I'll correct it so I know for next time . If I got it right Fern is an awful character for this part of the quest )Fernwhisker tried to focus. [Spirit 1 + Focus 0= 1]

Unfortunately, Fernwhisker and Flarefur can't focus, either. They won't get any bonuses, either.

Icefeather also attempted to focus. However, she failed miserably. (Spirit: 2)(Focus:0) (Check: 2)

Poor Icefeather.
Al seems to be able to focus with a regular check of 4. A +1 bonus is added to his next check.
The group needs to cross, but first, they have to watch or listen to figure out when they can cross. A See or Listen check of either 4 or 6 is recommended.

Fernwhisker tried to listen, but failed. (1+1=2) (I really should've picked Intelligence/Strength skills but I didn't know it at the time I think Fernwhisker is the one who got the Intelligence and not me!)

(lol Poor Fernwhisker) Icefeather tried super hard to listen this time. (Listen: 1 Spirit: 2 = 3 + 1 spent spirit chip = A check of 4)

(lol shenanigans everywhere)
Poor Fernwhisker, too. She can't even listen to everything going on! In fact, she gets a -1 penalty to the next and final check.
Icefeather has an easier time listening, and is able to see a rough pattern. No bonuses are gained, but a penalty is avoided.

Yet again, a failure... Leafheart gets a -1 penalty to the next check.

Flarefur attempted to listen for a patern. (Spirit 3 + Listen 1 = 4)

Flarefur can make out a rough pattern from the monsters' noises. Her next check is unaffected.
Al twitches his ears, using a spirit chip to pass the check with no penalty.
Now that a pattern is known, time to make a Pounce Check, based on intelligence. The bonus from the first check and the penalty from the second both apply here. Target numbers: 4 and 7.
Al suddenly springs forward, launching himself towards the other side with all his might. His bonus from the first check gives him a +1 to his total and he spends an intelligence chip, but even then, one of the monsters steps on his tail. He yowls in pain and dashes to safety, although his tail tip seems crooked. He's taken 2 chips of damage, but he's otherwise fine.

Icefeather goes next, summoning enough energy that she can spare. She pounces with a Pouce check of 4 by spending one extra Intelligence chip (Int: 3 + 1 Int. Chip = 4).

Icefeather makes it halfway across before a monster roars past. Its paws dig into the dirt to stop, but the momentum causes it to bump into Icefeather, dealing 2 chips of damage.

Leafheart musters all of her courage to leap into the monster pit and pounces. (Get ready for math ) Int=3 + Pounce=0 = 3 - Penalty=1 = 2 + Chips=2 = 4

Despite the complicated math, Leafheart can't avoid Icefeather's fate. As she tries to dodge a passing monster, it slows down but swats her aside, dealing two chips of damage.

(I'm not sure I fully understand chips. I know that if you have 2 Chips in the wrong Ability you can trade them for 1 in the one that you want to use, and that you add them onto Checks when you really don't want to get hit by that car, but idk how many I've got) (also ahaha what Fernwhisker lacks in working body parts, he makes up for in... hm...) (I don't think I'll re-use this character if I play a different quest )

(Okay, here's Breezy's Chips 101 tutorial!
Basically, chips are both your health and stuff you spend to get better results. To put it more simply, they're your energy. Each type of chip is determined by your ability scores. For example, if Exampleclaw had a Strength score of two, he would have 2 Strength chips. You can spend a chip on its respective kind of check (such as a strength chip on a Climb check) or use the conversion method you mentioned. Either way, this boosts your base score.
Chips can be refreshed at certain points, but if you spend a chip, it's gone until the next refresh, so be careful!
If you take damage and lose chips that way, things are different. You choose which chips you wish to lose, but they can't be regained in a refresh. They have to be healed through time or a Medicine/Herb Lore knack.)

Al had to agree with Icefeather. That really, really hurt. He looked back at his now-crooked tail before checking to see if everyone else was alright.

Icefeather quickly scurried to the other side of the road. She had a bruise on her side from the monster, but other than that she was fine.
