Sol chuckled, but didn’t respond until he reached his dogs. "Free," he told them, and they jumped up to come greet them, tails wagging. "Stay off," Sol warned, right as Apollo's front paws were about to lift up onto Parker. The big dog settled for sitting on Parker’s foot instead, head tilted up for scratches.
Taking up his position against the wall again, Sol faced Parker. "You can order anything you want to drink. Just ask one of the servers walking with drink trays." He pointed one such person out. It was a woman, with a half empty tray of champagne flutes.

Parker however, wasn't used to such looks. The dance had helped him forget that they were in a room full of judging people. He had hoped that it wasn't as bad as he thought it would be. But it was impossible not to catch the looks cast his way as he navigated the crowd. Back home, no one had known his preferences in a lover, no one had any reason to suspect it and thus never shown such disdain and ridicule towards him. However, he had seen such looks thrown at others who chose to live bolder than he.
He thought he would be fine. After all, his time on the Comet had gotten him used to showcases his choices in the open. Everyone teased him when they could, but there was no malice, no ill-intent, no barbed words. They were all supportive and could care less of the fact that he was gay. It was a confidence boost, for sure, but now... With each gaze Parker meet as he grabbed his drink, he felt that confidence shaking. It melted away and was replaced by the same gut wrenching fear he had all throughout his teenage years. These people knew, and they found fault. No one said anything directly to him, but they didn't have to. The message was clear.
When he returned to Sol, the light in his eyes had dimmed, even as he called forth a smile to greet his lover. On the way back, his free hand had found the fur of Apollo's neck. To anyone else, it just looked as if he was holding his collar to be sure the dog didn't sprint away or run into someone. In reality, his fingers were simply buried in the fur, using Apollo as the driving force forward for the young man was sure that had he not had the help, he would have bolted.

Sol's eyes gleamed, but before he could answer a familiar voice called in a sing-song voice, "Soooool!"
And then Cleo was there, the crowd parting before her as she approached them with a bouncing step, grinning.
Sol eased away from Parker a little. "Cleo," he said, no sign of the previous conversation in his voice. "It's a little early, isn't it?"
She shrugged. "Yeah, but Mother was boring me to tears. So I'm here, and ready for our dance!"
Sol sighed, resigned. This was an ongoing battle he had given up trying to win. "As you wish, princess." He stepped forward, but paused beside Parker. He leaned in, stealing a quick kiss and informing him, "If I win, I get you. Any way I want you."
Then he straightened and moved to Cleo's side. "Artemis, Apollo, stay with Parker," he told his dogs before offering Cleo his hand and sweeping her out onto the dance floor.
