"Two days," Devon replied promptly, without looking back. He didn't hold the door open for Parker either, just set off down the street.
☆~☆~☆ The bedroom was small and sparsely furnished, with just a bed, a side table, and a dresser. But it was clean, warm, and the bed had fresh sheets and blankets, and that was all that really mattered at the moment. Seth pulled their travel packs from a pocket and set them on the end of the bed so they could change out of their travel clothes. "Would you rather change here or in the bathroom?" he asked.

Parker was ready with the answers. "About two miles, but due to the fact that he can only carry one livestock animal at a time, he had to make several trips. And that day, we had had over thirty animals needing to be carried from where the storm had sent them running to. So that would be thirty trips, four miles each, so in total 120 odd miles, give or take. All while battling strong gales of a late summer storm, which, I'm sure you know, isn't easy to fly in. And that was after putting in a days work of digging out part of the river bank to ensure the river didn't flood more than it should and destroy the last of crops still in the field. So, yes, his distance traveled might not be as much as your dragon will have to fly, but I can guarantee that two extra passengers won't weigh your dragon down as much as you claim. And if so, then I am sorry. I will be sure to make it up to your dragon whenever we reach Teirm for putting up with me and Apollo."

As soon as he was on the bed, Anya scooted closer Seth. Her head found its place on his lap, trying not to get in the way of his ability to sketch, but wanting to be next to him. All the while, her hands smoothed a sleeping Hero's fur. It wasn't too long before she stilled and was sound asleep.

Devon wasn't expecting... any of that, as was evidenced by his blank silence. Finally, he grunted and turned to keep walking. "Glad you get it then," he muttered irritabley.
☆~☆~☆ Seth dropped his free hand to her head and ran his fingers through her hair. He was watching her, not the sketchbook. Even after she'd fallen asleep, he sat watching her, fingers running through her hair, for a long while. Eventually his focus shifted to his sketchbook, and he took up his pencil and started drawing.
He quickly lost track of time, only returning to the present when he had finished. He stared down at the sketch for a long minute, then tossed it and his pencil onto the bedside table. There were no windows to tell him what time it was, but he felt it had to be near dawn. He considered getting up, but one look at the sleeping beauty beside him had him tossing that idea. Instead, he carefully shifted her so he could lay down beside her. He watched her for a while, then eventually closed his eyes. He didn't think he would sleep, but it was worth a shot.

Feeling like he had won a point, Parker had to fight back the urge to smile. Instead, he followed once more. "And there's not too much of a rush. Even if it took three or four days, it would still be faster than the two weeks it would take on horseback. So if your dragon needs the extra rest to compensate for the extra weight, I won't complain."

Not being able to see the sun was an issue, and later Anya would blame a mixture of no sun and little sleep for her not waking up at the normal hour. When dawn arrived, it found the woman still asleep, safe and warm in Seth's arms. It was only the gentle nudging thoughts of Corrik that brought her back to wakefulness when it the morning dragged on. Even then, she didn't fully wake, but rather stayed tucked against Seth and just laid there.

Devon didn't respond, nor did he say another word until they made it back to the spot where Everest was waiting for them. He climbed into the saddle, then pointed down at Apollo. "Get him up next," he said. He didn't really want the dig directly behind him, drooling and breathing on him, but it was the safest place for him. Devon wasn't fond of most animals, but he wasn't so heartless that he wanted to see the dog fall off.
☆~☆~☆ Seth wasn't quite sleeping, but he had entered a relaxed, restful state. He was roused from it when he heard the change in Anya's breathing. It was subtle, but he had been listening to her, using the quiet, soothing sounds of her breaths to drift. So he noticed the moment it altered. He opened his eyes and decided, not for the first time, that he would be content to wake up to the sight of her everyday for the rest of his life.

Back with the the dragon, Parker called Apollo to him. As obedient as he was, he knew the dog wouldn't take naturally to flying. So he rubbed his head and muttered praise to him until Decon called to hand him up. Carefully, the young man did just that, doing what he could to help keep Apollo calm until he was able to climb into the saddle himself. Situated, he say behind Devon, Apollo snuggly inbetween them.

When it was clear she would not be going back to sleep, Anya opened bleary eyes. A couple more hours would have been great. "Morning," she muttered, just assuming Seth was awake. If he wasn't, then she'd let him sleep.

The two days passed. Not quickly, but at least they didn't drag. Devon had been exaggerating when he said two extra passengers would slow Everest down. Everest was a big dragon, and while, yes, he couldn't go quite as fast as he did with just one Rider, he also wasn't exactly slowed by the extras. Mostly because he was too proud and stubborn to be. So they covered a lot of ground that first day before stopping for the night, and again the next day.
Since they got such a late start that first day, they had to camp once more before reaching Tierm. They were only a couple hours away by dragon, but Devon refused to approach the city at night. He didn't trust the reception they might get if they stole in under cover of darkness. Especially since Everest was a dark enough green that he was exceptionally good at going undetected at night.
So they spent one more night in the wilderness, then broke camp early and flew the last two hours to Tierm. Everest landed about a mile outside the city. Devon dismounted, conversed briefly with Everest, and decided he would accompany Parker — who's name he finally learned the first night — into the city.
☆~☆~☆ It took Seth a minute to realize she was talking about their situation with the Rebels, and not this exact moment. He sighed and opened his eyes. "I don't know. I don't trust any of them. I don't want any of you becoming victims in some revenge scheme." He ducked his head so it touched hers. "I also don't want to live on the run for the foreseeable future. That's no life, and you and Aidan deserve better. I would like to do something to defeat Genevieve. I just don't know if I can do that here, not when no one is likely to trust my intentions." He sighed again and drew her closer. "It feels like there are no good options here," he whispered.

It was a rocky start to the trip, but after the second day if flying, Parker was getting used to Devon gruffness. Yeah, he might have been one of Genevieve's Riders, but he wasn't too bad to be around. Not much for conversation, but that was hard to do on dragon back anyways. In the evenings, Parker offered to do the cooking, partly as a thank you, and partly to feel useful. Then it was off to sleep.
Finally, the day arrived that they would be going into Teirm. Excitement and nervousness battled in his stomach. He hoped more than anything that the Comet was here. If it wasn't, then he would have to think of what he'd do to wait. Finding an inn to stay at wouldn't be hard. The pendant around his neck would ensure lodging. But he did worry about money. For even though he could get Sol to pay for everything, he didn't feel right about doing that. A job would be needed if he was going to have a long wait.
But that was all plans for later. First: he had to check the docks. "I'm going to check the ports first," he informed Devon as they entered the city. "If you'd like, I can go ahead and pay you now so you don't have to saty longer than you have to."

"I don't think you have to worry about them harming me or Aidan," Anya said. "They said they were looking for me, remember. If I'm important to then for some reason, then I doubt they'll do anything to risk my cooperation. But that still confuses me too. Why would I be someone they were looking for?"
