Sol smirked. "Actually, she only does that on command," he replied. "That's why no one likes getting on my bad side." What he said was true, but the crew were safe from Artemis unless they proved a real threat to Sol. Both dogs, actually, would ignore any attack commands made against the crew. Most knew that; some were still uncertain.
~ • ~ • ~ ( Haha, understandable. xD Well, the only thing I can think of is Aidan dropping that question: "What kind of friends are you and Anya?" But that can pretty much happen anytime, so unless we can think of more, we can skip and save the question for later. xD )
~ • ~ • ~ Morgan looked down at the meadow again, impressed. "Wow. That's hardcore. Seth would probably have a field day learning about these spells." Morgan would love to learn too, but he wasn't as interested in magic as Seth, nor was he as good at using magics that weren't his specialty. Which was odd, seeing as he was half elf. Elves were known for their natural affinity with magic, and Morgan was certainly more adept than most non-elves at the Ancient Language, but he still didn't have the skill in magic that Seth did.

"I mean, can't say I blame them. It's much more enjoyable to be on your good side," Parker stated. Then blushed a little.
~•~•~
(I mean, if Aidan stays for dinner, which he might just do, he could either ask it while the three of them help take care of a few evening chores in the barn or as they're just hanging out in their room. Or we can save it for a different day. Up to you.)
~•~•~
"It has to be, otherwise Genevieve would have found us already," Kyra pointed out. "We've seen several of her Riders fly over head, but none bothered to try and land. Either they were on some other mission and didn't care, or the spells worked better than we had hoped. We like to go with that last one."

Sol let out a low chuckle and gave him a knowing smile. "Yes. Sometimes more enjoyable than others."
~ • ~ • ~ ( That's true. Aidan would totally spend the night, if only to guarantee breakfast. xD So maybe they can have the puppies over too, since he was going to try convincing one (or all xD) of Anya's family members to take one. Then, after dinner, Seth, Anya, and Aidan can make a nest for the doggo family in the barn. ;D )
~ • ~ • ~ "Oh, they're working," Morgan said confidently. He surveyed the field again as Kyon slowly swept in for a landing. "Genevieve's people are big and well-trained, but a surprising few of them have powerful or useful magic. Most of their training went into their physical skills, both in fights and in stealth. Some have useful powers, some are a little more of the powerful side. Very few are both. Just her inner circle, and a few others — like the three we fought — whom she keeps wrapped in shadows and secrets."
This was all information he learned while undercover. He wasn't an official Rebel, but when be enlisted their help in an effort to free Seth, he did promise to pass along what useful information he could find. He was never able to do any true spy work, though, for he had to keep floating by under Genevieve's radar. Drawing attention to himself with such sleuthing ran the risk of Genevieve learning that Morgan was one of the most powerful Riders out there, and that his power would be very useful to her. Seth had gone to great pains to help hide that from her, and keep it hidden. After everything else he had sacrificed to keep those he loved safe, Morgan wouldn't risk exposing himself like that. Luckily, he had soon found an easier, safer way to get info on Genevieve and her Order.

Seeing the blush made Sol chuckle, but he simply answered, "Teirm. We should be there early tomorrow morning."
~ • ~ • ~ ( Excellent! Should we start with them returning home for dinner, puppies in tow, after an afternoon swim? :3 )
~ • ~ • ~ Morgan snorted. "That's unlikely. But even if she does send her inner circle, we'll have no way of knowing. Their identities are a closely guarded secret. Not even Seth knows who's included."
A moment later, Kyon landed, and all thoughts of Genevieve and her inner circle vanished as the cloaking spell dissipated, giving Morgan his first look at the Rebel camp.
( I'm assuming the spell disappears for them upon landing, but correct me if I'm wrong, and I'll edit. ^^ )

Parker nodded. "Are we staying the same time as we did in the last port?" He asked. He would assume the Sol would be stopping for as little time possible with each stop seeing as they had a lot of places to go. ~•~•~ (Yep! ^^ ) ~•~•~ (No, you're right. ) The Rebel camp was not nearly as big as their home base, but the size of it was still impressive. For as far as they could see, tents were set up everywhere. There was no particular order as to how they were set up, but that was also intentional. Without the orderly rows, it made it hard for any intruders to navigate as well as confuse newbies and spies alike. Kyra had been amused for the first month or so here learning just where everything was and how to navigate the place. It also looked similar to Ilirea's crowded streets with the amount of foot traffic weaving through the chaos. There was always something to do in the camp, and plenty of people to do it. No one got any down time unless they earned it. "Home sweet home," Kyra said, carefully maneuvering out of the saddle so she could jump to the ground first, just as Shara landed next to them. "Come on, we'll let Ian keep his word about showing you to the mess tent. Morgan, you'll have to come with me. We'll have to report to Lawrence."

Sol nodded. "Yes. I have more people to situate in Teirm, so that will take a little longer." He sighed. "First and foremost being that she-devil occupying my rooms. That's going to be a real pain in the ass."
~ • ~ • ~ ( Okay! 😁 Would you mind starting? Sorry, I would but how much fun Seth has will depend on Anya's mood throughout the day and I don't want to make any wrong assumptions. ^^ )
~ • ~ • ~ ( Sweet. )
Morgan surveyed the bustling camp, equal parts surprised and impressed. He knew from whispers back home that the Rebels were no paltry group. They may have had fewer Riders than Genevieve, but they were quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with. And of course, it was thanks to a couple hundred "weakling" humans. There wasn't much Genevieve taught them personally, but one thing she had enjoyed enlightening them about was the divide between most humans and Dragon Riders. Most Riders may have technically been human, but according to Genevieve, once you were bound to a dragon you became something more. Something better. Ordinary mortals did not compare.
Which Morgan thought was bull. Humans may have had short lifespans compared to most every other species in Alagaësia, and a vast many of them were without magic, but humans were some of the bravest, most resilient creatures Morgan knew. They accomplished things through their own strength and merit, rather than magical means. They helped others because it was the right thing to do, not because they had a dragon watching their back to ensure their own safety. Sure, there were bad people who did horrible things, but the same could be said for any species. At least when humans went bad, they didn't build an army of Dragon Riders and kill anyone who got in their way.
Morgan waited until Kyra was on the ground before stepping down onto Kyon's foreleg. He helped Cami out of the saddle and to the ground, then hopped down after her. He watched Callum do virtually the same thing to help Cresseida down from Shara before turning to Kyra. "Perfect. Lead the way."

"I'd offer assistance, but I think I like not being the target of the princess's temper tantrums," Parker said, laughing. "Does she not have anyone in the city waiting for her? Can they not just come get her on the docks when we get there?"
~*~*~
(Lol, sure!)
It was safe to say that Seth's plan had worked. Anya wouldn't say she was completely set to rights, but she found it easier to laugh and smile as the day drew on. Not only did they go see the waterfall, but she had shown them all the spots that she and Corrik had discovered during the early years of the flight training. Some of the spots she was sure that Seth had already found for himself, but he didn't say anything about it as she more or less dictated where they were going.
However, they couldn't spend all day flying. Well, they could, but Star most certainly couldn't. She wasn't a bad passenger, but Anya knew that she would be much better off on the ground. Not to mention that she had to get back to her puppies sooner or later. So the flight lasted an hour or so before they made their way back home. After a quick check on the puppies, and eventually deciding to have them tag along, the group spent the rest of the afternoon by the river, swimming as was promised. Needless to say, it was more fun to watch the puppies splash around at the edge of the shallow pool then the actual swimming.
The rest of the day passed by, and before she knew it, they were heading back to the house. On the way, Corrik had been released from sheep duty and had caught up with them, glad to see that his Rider was finally out of the house and having fun. However, having to watch where he was stepping to not squish the floof balls running about everywhere was a little annoying.
~*~*~
While she waited for Morgan to help Cami down, Kyra grabbed her bags from the others. She threw it over her shoulder at the same time that he gave her the go ahead to start walking. "Try to keep up," she said and headed off.
There was absolutely no order to the traffic. Sure, no one was rudely shoving or running over people who got in their way, but there were people heading in all kinds of directions. This didn't slow her pace any. If anything, it just meant she had to keep a better watch around her as she led the way to Captain Lawrence's tent. To anyone who wasn't a part of the camp, it would be difficult to tell where any of the commanding officers had they tents set up. There were no defining features to mark any special tents. It was that way on purpose. If any of Genevieve's spies were to break stumble into the camp, then they would have a harder time pinpointing the commander's sleeping quarters. Luckily, Kyra had been to see the spy master of camp so many times, she no longer had to wonder which tent was which.
In about ten minutes, the woman stopped in front of a tent that was just a bit bigger than the others, and knocked on the post right outside the door. A muffled "Enter" could be heard, so she stepped forward, holding the flap open so Morgan could follow. Inside, Lawrence was where he always was: at his desk surrounded by paperwork. Upon their arrival, he looked up. "Ah, Kyra. You've returned, and with a stray tagging behind you." He rose from his seat, walked around the desk, and moved to meet them. "You must be Morgan Reilly. Good to see you in one piece," he commented, holding out a hand to shake.

Sol grunted. "I'm not entirely sure. I'm kind of behind schedule returning her to her betrothed." He glanced at Parker and clarified, "He's the one who hired us to rescue her." He let his eyes search the sky again. "I'm waiting for confirmation that he's still in Teirm, waiting for us. If he is, then it'll be easy enough to hand her over into his care and recieve the bounty he promised. If he's not..." Sol scowled. "Then things will get complicated."
~ • ~ • ~ ( Thanks. 😁 )
Seth's plans for the day had better results than he could have hoped for. Not only did he have fun, enjoying Anya's company and Aidan's commentary, but he got to see Anya's smile come back, and he lost track of how many time he or Aidan (or a combination of both of them) made her laugh. Real laughs too, not the little ones she gave when the day started.
Seth enjoyed the flight and hearing Anya's stories about her early days as a Rider, but he enjoyed the hours spent at the river more. He liked being able to hang out with Anya, almost like it was before everything went to hell. But Aidan provided a new and refreshing source of enjoyment as well. For a kid who had nothing, he was an endless well of energy and excitement, and there was a fearlessness to him that continued to remind Seth of himself and Morgan at that age.
When it was finally time to go, Seth almost didn't want to. Aidan certainly didn't. The kid had been going nonstop all day, yet somehow still had the energy to keep going. It was only the promise of dinner than finally convinced him to call it quits for the day. Unsurprisingly, he was starving. Seth found he was too, and was tempted to follow Aidan's lead and run all the way back to the house. But he kept to a walk, beside Anya and surrounded by sleepy puppies.
They followed dutifully at their heels, but now that they were away from the fun of the river, they were starting to lag. They were full of energy, like Aidan, but they didn't yet have his stamina. They needed frequent naps, and theirs was long overdue. Star kept running back and forth between Aidan and her pups. She didn't seem too worried, though. She trusted they would be safe with Seth and Anya. It was more like she just needed to come back to count them every once in a while to make sure no one got left behind. As soon as she was ssw they were all accounted for, she would shoot off to catch up with Aidan again. Every time she did, the puppies would run a few feet after her, but they weren't nearly fast enough. They would then sit down where they were and whimper pitifully until Seth and Anya caught up, at which point they would cheer up again and follow along at their heels.
( Note: That^ is pretty much a true story about walking a litter of eight week old puppies. xD )
~ • ~ • ~ Morgan initially rolled his eyes at her order. His legs were much longer than hers, as was his stride; keeping up would not be hard.
He soon learned, however, that speed was not the issue. The tangled throng of people nade moving forward with any speed difficult, though it wasn't enough of a hindrance to truly slow him down either. He had more than enough coordination and skill to maneuver through the people with ease. No, his problem came via something much simpler: distraction.
He couldn't stop his gaze from wandering. Over the people, the tents, and anything else that caught his eye. That, more than anything, slowed him.down and he had to constantly remind himself to keep up with Kyra. Habit and training had him trying to map out where they were going, but even his excellent sense of direction only did so much to help within this chaos. It wasn't until they were halfway to their destination that he realized that was intentional. The nondescript and unadorned tents no doubt was too. This setup would make life very difficult for any would-be spies.
When they arrived at their destination, Morgan paused to look back the way they'd come. Looking through the people, he admitted to himself that he was unlikely to be able to make it back on his own, not unless he used his bond with Kyon to guide him back. Morgan wasn't easy to impress, but he was now. He wanted to meet the mastermind behind this chaotic idea.
For now, he contended himself with meeting Lawrence. Morgan accepted the man's hand. "Thank you. I rather like me in one piece too," he said with a grin.

"Surely since he's waiting on his betrothed he'll be hanging around, if only to get word of what happened to the ship she's supposed to be on," Parker stated. If not, then he doesn't sound like a very caring fiancé."
~*~*~
(XD Gosh, I wish I had a bunch of puppies running around.)
As the pattern of watching the puppies run ahead only to think they got lost, Anya took pity on them. The little babies had had a big day, with no naps in between the swimming, they were very tired. So as Seth and her approached them after the third time of them running after their mother, the woman scooped two of them up into her arms. "You just can't run fast on those little legs, can you?" she asked them, not even bothering to dodge the kisses they pelted her with.
~*~*~
"I imagine so. From the what I read in Kyra's last letter, you had a narrow escape," Lawrence said. He withdrew his hand and clasped both of them behind his back. "My name is Captain Hugo Lawrence. Many here just call me Lawrence. It's a pleasure to meet you, and we have many things to discuss. The top of that list being your request to meet with our leader."

Sol grunted, unconvinced. "Some would argue he's not very caring at all," he muttered. Of course, that wasn't entirely true. Jupiter cared. He was just choosy about who he cared for, and Sol did believe Arabella was one of those people. He shook his head. "Sorry," he told Parker. "The princess and her betrothed are not some of my favorite people."
~ • ~ • ~ ( My sister's dog just had puppies two weeks ago. They're not running around yet, but it's only a matter of time. 😁😍 )
Seth chuckled at the sight of the puppies bathing her in kisses and bent to follow her lead and scoop up the other two. One immediately curled up in the crook of his arm and promptly fell asleep. The other one gave him the same treatment Anya was receiving. "Yes, yes. You're very welcome," he told it.

Parker gave a small smile, his attention shifting between Sol and the sea ahead of them. "I can tell," he said. "But I can't blame you. Not everyone uses their brains for civil behavior."
~*~*~
(AWWW! X3 I just like baby animals. I need them in my life constantly. XD)
"You know, if we're not careful, we'll end up with all four of them," Anya said, turning her amused gaze in his direction. "They make it so hard not to just cuddle them 24/7."

"Given your circumstance and what you being here might mean, I'm sure he will want to come talk to you," Lawrence responded. "We're the closes cap to Ilirea, so if anything starts stirring, we'll be the ones to go in and find out what it is and to work against it. With a disturbance as big as the one you and this other Rider made, Genevieve will more than likely try something to find you both. Now, as spy master, I am obligated to ask you for the identity of this other Rider. Kyra failed to mention it in her reports, but I assume you do know it."

Parker did as instructed, turning the wheel two inches to the right. He couldn't tell any difference in how the boat was heading, but he trusted that the slight adjustment would help. Silence settled in around them then, and he wasn't sure if it was a comfortable one, or if he was overthinking it and making it out to be an awkward silence. The trouble was, what did he say now? What did one normally talk about while steering a ship? His eyes traveled to the captain again, trying to gauge his thoughts.
~*~*~
Anya smiled at that. "I know Mama will get one. We used to have an older dog when we were little, and she stayed around the house while everyone else was in the fields. Mama would give her a basket to carry and she'd follow her to collect eggs or vegetables from the smaller gardens. She liked that dog, and I can see her convincing Papa to let her get another."
~*~*~
"While that would have been good information to have as well, I was talking about the Rider whose family you requested the use of our safe houses for," Lawrence replied. While he did have a hunch as to who it was, his remaining spies in the city hadn't been able to gather anything going on in the House since the whole ordeal started. Morgan had been his only man inside, working with the Riders. Now that he was gone, there would be no more reports on Genevieve's schemes. "I'd like to know who exactly turned coat and stirred up the bee hive. Not that I'm glad to see the woman lose henchmen, but it does make things more difficult for us."

Sol had returned to watching the sky, his stance relaxed despite the gently swaying ship. On his shoulder, Fury had finished her preening and seemed to be surveying the sky as well, though it was unlikely they were looking for the same thing. Sensing eyes on him, Sol turned his head and caught Parker's eye. He arched one questioning brow, the hint of a smile on his lips.
~ • ~ • ~ Seth absently ran his hand over the puppies, smiling at the picture Anya painted. They were both sleeping now, one half on top of the other. They were small enough that he could pet them both at the same time. "I wish I could give one to Cami. She wants a dog as much as I do. It always surprised me when Mom wouldn't let her have one. She rarely denied us anything growing up."
~ • ~ • ~ Morgan blinked, resisting the urge to look at Kyra. She hadn't told her boss about Seth? Why? Even if she hadn't known who the turncoat was when she left on her mission, she had plenty of opportunities after finding out to tell Lawrence. Did she hold off so Morgan could tell him and answer the questions soon to follow in person? Putting the whole story into a letter wouldn't be easy, after all.
Hoping there wasn't another reason for her omission in this matter, Morgan took a deep breath and answered, "That would be Seth Accio. Her son." Which he likely already knew, but whatever.

Being caught staring at him, Parker had to physically force himself not to glance away. "Are you looking for something?" He asked. "You keep searching the sky. Is there something I need to be looking out for?"
~•~•~
"Maybe it's because you two were more trouble than she could handle at the time," Anya teased. Her own little passengers had settled down. One remained awake, but from the yawn it gave, she doubted it would be awake for long.

Lawrence's head dipped slightly in a nod. So the infamous spawn of the she-devil was loose. That was just great. Under his mother's thumb, he had been a problem, but now? Genevieve would have every Rider looking for him.
"Well, this is just great," he muttered. Hi eyes moved to Kyra. "Did you know of this?"
"Yes," Kyra responded.
"And you chose not to tell me why?"
"For this reason," She replied. "Had I told you earlier, you'd have arranged hunting parties for him. I simply didn't want that to happen until I was here to offer a better solution."

"How long ago did you send the message?" Parker asked. He also should have asked how far away from the port they had traveled before it was sent. It might have taken some time for Vicoty to reach the shore and then find the right person.
~•~•~
"Then perhaps she knew you didn't have the free time to care for both a dragon and a puppy. I don't know why she didn't let Cami have one," Anya said.

Lawrence looked between the two, face blank as he calculated their words. He lifted a finger to point to Morgan. "You had a friendship going with Seth before we recruited you, correct? I believe that's what Nick had said when he told me he had set you up as one of our own," he started, moving his finger towards Kyra. "But why have you taken an interest? You've never cared about the people I've sent to 'hunt down,' as you put it."
"You said it when I left. I grew up in Ilirea," Kyra said. "Who do you think I was too close to so I'd be seen by a threat by Genevieve?"
Lawrence fell slightly again, crossing his arms over his chest. That would have been useful information to know at the time as well, but he couldn't do much about that. He could have also blamed Nick for not telling him the whole story, but, again, it was too late for that. He sighed heavily.
"I'm not going to harm Seth, though there are plenty here who would like to, that's for sure. I'll get in touch with our leader, see if he can get here to deal with it. But we can't have someone like that out and about unsupervised. If Genevieve doesn't get to him first, than one of our Riders in the field might. I can't do much about that. So the fact remains that we have to look for him. I take it, Kyra, your suggestion was for you to hunt him down?"
"Yes. He'd be less likely to attack me," Kyra responded simply. Well, he might still, but he wouldn't be has harsh on her.

Sol let his faze drift upward once more. "Within an hour of leaving Narda's port. Victory is swift, and she would gave been able to traverse the distance between Narda and Teirm by now. Narda and Ilirea? Not so much. If Jupiter is in Teirm, then it's only a matter of time before she returns. Well," he added dryly, "if Jupiter was kind enough to respond in a timely fashion, that is."
~ • ~ • ~ "Oh, I know full well why I could never get a dog, or any pet for that matter." Despite his best efforts, Seth had visited the barn cats a lot since meeting them that first day, including the new kittens. (I'm assuming those would have been born by now?) Even with a puppy, he was still tempted to take a kitten too. "Pets weren't allowed at the House, and the dragons were only part of it. But Cami could have had a dog. I think there was even a couple times when Mom almost relented. But in the end, her answer was always no. And therein lies the mystery."
~ • ~ • ~ "Less likely?" Morgan scoffed. "Seth won't attack you. He wouldn't attack anyone, unless they gave him a reason to. Like by attacking him first. Or —" He hesitated. He wanted to believe the Rebels were better than Genevieve and her people, but Lawrence had just admitted some would be more than willing to hurt Seth. Could he afford to tell them Seth's biggest weakness?
Yes, he decided. For it is also his greatest strength.
Morgan met Lawrence's gaze. "Seth didn't work for Genevieve because he wanted to. He did it because if he didn't, Genevieve would have done unspeakable things to me and his family. That doesn't..." He fumbled for a moment, then continued strongly, "That doesn't excuse all the things he's had to do, but you have to know killing people will be a last resort for him now that he's free. That being said..." Here he hesitated again before plowing on. "Seth is dangerous, I'll give you that. But he'll only do so much to protect himself. Go after just him, and he won't be as much of a threat. But if you endanger those he loves... well. You're as good as signing your death warrant. There's nothing he won't do for them." He said it matter-of-fact, hoping that kept it from sounding ominous. "You'd be better off recruiting his loved ones to your cause, and hope that that's enough to get him on your side too. There's no one I would rather have at my back during a war." Well, except maybe the woman beside him, but there was no need to get into that now.

(Yes, they would have. They're probably a month old by now if she had them not long after they got there. XD)
"Could she be allergic to them and just didn't want to say it?" Anya asked. She didn't know why she'd feel the need to lie or keep it a secret but it would be a plausible reason for denying Cami a dog.

Kyra wanted to snap at Morgan and tell him to shut up. No Seth wouldn't attack unless he had reason. But she worked for the Rebels, and even though they were friends, there might still be caution in his dealing with her. Also, she had used that phrasing more to try and sway Lawrence's decision than anything. Lawrence viewed him as dangerous, so sending someone who night be able to talk to him without a fight was a better idea than sending a stranger.
Yet Morgan had plowed on in his words, leaving no time for to cut in and clarify. Really, the level of loyalty between those two were still comically strong, at least to her. If there were ever two people who would actively and willingly die for each other, it was her Golden Girls.
Lawrence listened to his speech with little change to his expression. It was news to him that Genevie had used the Veras and Morgan as leverage towards Seth, and it warranted looking at other cases in a new light. "Be that as it may, Seth was the cause of many deaths. Deaths whose loved ones and friends reside in this camp. No matter my verdict, they'll want justice that is rightly theirs to claim," he told the younger man. "However, in order to get said justice, they'll need to go throw the leader. Having Seth swayed to our side would be beneficial, though many might disapprove."

Sol shook his head. "Maybe. Maybe not. Jupiter is an asshole like that."
~ • ~ • ~ ( 👍😁 )
"No, that's not it. The only thing Cami is allergic to is dirt." Seth shot her a smirk. "And that's only in her head." When she was young she never minded playing around in the dirt with him. Then she went to high school and decided dirt was her enemy. After a moment he recalled, "Callum has never liked dogs, though. I mean, he doesn't hate them or anything, but he also never felt a desire to pet every one he met either."
~ • ~ • ~ Morgan sensed Kyra's displeasure over everything he told Lawrence, but he ignored her. If this was going to happen with as little bloodshed as possible, they needed to know how Seth operated. He didn't want any more deaths on Seth's conscience, not over a misunderstanding.
Morgan nodded. "And that's exactly why I want to speak with him." Lawrence clearly had some power and sway over the people, but not enough to ensure Seth's safety. That's what Morgan was after, and he would do whatever he had to to convince the guy of Seth's value. "Have you asked him to come already?"

Parker cast another look his way. "Sounds like you've had more experiences with him than just this," he commented. "As he hired you for other jobs in the past?"
~*~*~
"What about Cresseida? Is she allergic to them?" Anya asked. "Or maybe it's just that she didn't want a dog in or around the house? I know a lot of people who don't mind dogs, but don't want to have them of their own."
~*~*~
"No. Kyra had mentioned in the letter that you wished to speak with him, but as for the matter that needed to be discussed, she didn't fill me in," Lawrence answered. "Now, I will send him a letter. As for finding Seth, I guess it'll be best to leave that matter on stand by until we know what's to be done with him. If he says to find and bring the boy here, then, yes, Kyra, I will allow you to go hunt for him. Until then, you are dismissed. I'll give you a week before handing you another assignment. You may have to travel back to Garreth and finish up the negotiations."
"I thought you already sent someone," Kyra stated.
"I was going to, but I didn't have the time to find someone and catch them up on all you accomplished and has previously discussed," Lawrence answered, moving to retake the seat at his desk. "It'll be easier to just send you to finish what you started and be done with it. Shouldn't be too hard, given Genevieve's man is out of the city by now."
The woman nodded. She had left the governor on good terms, so picking back up where she left wouldn't be difficult. "Is that all?"
"For now it is. Morgan, be sure to find Pam. She'll give you a tent. As for your dragon, we have limited room under the spell's protection of all of the dragons. He's welcome to stay and rest inside for the rest of the day, but he might find more comfortable sleeping quarters in the woods. It's the best we have to offer, I'm afraid."

Parker nodded, getting the feeling that Prince Jupiter wasn't his favorite person to talk about. "Okay, so who's the person you get along the best with?" he asked, hoping to steer them to a better topic.
~*~*~
"Then, there you go. She probably just didn't want the poor thing to get lonely while everyone was at school and work," Anya said. "And she might not have been able to take a puppy with her to work, because of how destructive it might have been in the store. A perfectly good reason for her decision."
~*~*~
"Then you are dismissed. I'll summon you if I have anything else to ask you," Lawrence told them, picking up the paperwork he had been reading before they entered.
Kyra didn't need to be told twice. She turned and elbowed Morgan to make sure he was leaving the tent with her. Once outside, she turned to him. "Right, do you want to go find Pam first to get settled in? Or do you want to catch up to the Veras and get a decent meal?"

Sol thought about that. "Beckham, I guess. And the rest of my crew. They don't expect me to be anyone I'm not."
~ • ~ • ~ Seth nodded. It all made sense. He had never really put much thought into why not, because he wasn't home often enough to be truly disappointed. And as much as Cami wanted a dog, she also had a fairly short attention span. She wouldn't have gotten bored of a puppy if she had it, but without it she would only be disappointed for so long.
The house came into view just as Aidan ran back to check on them. "Come on, come on, come on! I'm hungry!" Star barked in agreement, momentarily waking the puppies. They quickly nodded off again, though.
Seth chuckled. "Alright, alright. We're coming. You know you can just head in. You don't have to wait or us. I'm sure Maria will be more than happy to see you."
~ • ~ • ~ Morgan grunted at the elbow and shot her a look. He didn't need help to understand a dismissal when he heard one. He nodded goodbye to Lawrence and followed her. He sighed. He wanted to find Seth. He wanted to make sure no one was going to try to kill him on sight. But those weren't options right now. "The Veras," he said. If he couldn't do anything for Seth right now, he would make sure Seth's family was safe and settled.

"Okay, yeah, I could guess that," Parker said with a laugh. "I guess I should have asked who is it that you would trust your life with the most? Like, no matter what happens, you know that person's going to be done to do whatever needs doing without even being asked. A best friend, if you will."
~*~*~
Anya smiled as Aidan tried to hurry them along. The boy was excited about everything. Then again, had she been leaving on the streets for as long as he had, maybe she would be just excited about dinner as well. "So long as you don't track water everywhere, she won't mind you barging on in. You're pretty much part of the family now anyway," she told him, and it was true. All of her brothers liked the kid, and her mother loved doting on him. Her father was a little more reserved, but she could tell he treated Aidan like anyone of his other kids. He just hadn't asked him to be a part of the farm work yet.
~*~*~
Kyra figured that he would choose the Veras, so she angled herself to start walking in the direction of the mess tent. "Things will be hard to find for a while, but I'm sure you'll have no problem learning your way around," she said. "The mess tent is in the center of the camp, so even if you get turned around, if you just keep working your way inward, you'll get there. That'll be the easiest spot to find."

"Ah." Sol stared down at the main deck, where his crew were milling around, working and socializing and just enjoying the day. "I don't really have a best friend," he said after a long pause. "I would trust any of these men and women with my life. We've all been together too long not to. But a best friend?" He glanced at Parker and away again. "Being Captain and Pirate King doesn't really leave much time for lasting friendships. Not the kind you're talking about, anyway. My crew might be willing to lay down their lives for me if I asked them too, but I'd sooner send them away and take whatever's coming than watch that. And they would listen, because I'm not just their friend. I'm their Captain, and that puts a divide between us that makes 'best friends' impossible."
~ • ~ • ~ Aidan grinned. "Okay!" He spun around and shot off again, Star at his heels.
Seth stared after him, amused. "And I thought I was an energetic kid. That guy could run circles around me."
~ • ~ • ~ Morgan nodded but made no comment. He wasn't worried about making his way around. He didn't plan on being here long enough for it to matter. And in the meantime, he had no qualms about asking someone for directions if need be. "What was Lawrence talking about before? When he said you might have to go back to Garreth?"

Parker listened and nodded slightly. He didn't think about the need to keep separation between himself and the crew just because of his role as captain. "I guess that makes sense," he murmured. "If you were buddy buddy with a lot of them it'd make giving them orders harder." He paused for a minute, then turned a conspiratorial grin at Sol. Leaning closer to the captain he stage whispered, "so, just between you and me, who's your favorite crew member?"
~•~•~
"Sadly, Ceessieda isn't here to tell us which one was worse, you or him," Anya commented with a small laugh.

"Before I had been sent to find you, I had been in the middle of trying to negotiate an alliance with the governor of Garreth," Krya replied. "It was a simple mission, or should have been had Genevieve not had a goon in the city. He was keeping an eye on the governor, so it made meeting with him difficult and made the process longer. I had to leave before anything got accomplished, so hopefully the goon had left and I can get things back on track."

Sol said nothing in response to Parker's comment, his gaze on the crew. But when Parker leaned toward him, Sol did a double take, surprised and then amused. "I don't pick favorites," he said loftily. "That would hardly be fair."
~ • ~ • ~ "Eh, she'd probably say me, simply because she was the one who had to deal with me. With Aidan, she would have him for a few hours and then give him back. And," he added as the thought occurred to him, "he would probably act like a perfect angel with her. He does with your mother."
~ • ~ • ~ Morgan frowned as he listened. He had a buttload of questions, but he started with the most important one: "What if he hasn't left? Will you be safe, going back there by yourself?"

"So what I'm hearing is, you have a favorite, but you're not going to say which one it is out loud," Parker stated, grinning.
~•~•~
Anya tilted her head sideways in acknowledgement. Aidan was always on his best behavior for her mother. It was kind of amusing to watch him reign in his energy enough to do so. "Can't say I'd blame her for that decision," she said.
~•~•~
"Whoever it was wasn't a Rider. I caught sight of him several times, and nearly always his hands were bare with no insignia. So I think I can handle him," Kyra replied. "No, the thing that I'd have to be worried about is him getting close to the governor and undoing all the work I've done."
