yeah, absolutely! what kind of setting do we want? you were saying you wanted a wonderland type feel, right? so whimsical fantasy? or do we want something more grounded?

yeah, that would make sense. if we wanted to go wonderland-esque with it, we could always have them be almost entirely seperate realms! what role should b have in the kingdom? a guard maybe? or even a royal?

maybe a royal bastard or something? like the king/queen's illegitimate child who wouldn't have any claim to the throne but also be a key player both at court and in the kingdom as a whole?

( Ah ha! I've finally done it! BOO YEA! xD )
"I'm sure." Sol's hand lingered on the wheel until he was sure of Parker's hold. Then he left go. The helm immediately tried to spin, the oceans currents trying to steer the ship in a different direction from the one they wanted. The currents could be powerful, but keeping the ship on course wasn't difficult. It just required a little more muscle than anyone ever let on.
~ • ~ • ~ As Aidan raided the basket for the remaining food, Seth returned his attention to Anya. He looked down at her for a moment, a bit of worry creeping back in as he studied her. It wasn't hard to guess the direction her thoughts had gone. Wiping all trace of his worry from his expression, he spoke as if he hadn't noticed her melancholy. "Hey," he said, grinning. "You ready for your surprise?"
~ • ~ • ~ Morgan closed the last cupboard with a dramatic sigh. "Fine. Let's —" He stopped, his gaze shifting to someone behind her. "Good morning, grumps. Finally decided to grace us with your precense?"
Callum made no reply beyond a hard stare. Ignoring Kyra, he stepped around her and suddenly lifted the thing in his hand: Morgan's sword. Of course, he lifted it by the hilt, bringing the sword tip up to hover dangerously close to Morgan's throat. Morgan didn't even flinch, just arched one brow. Callum stared back coolly. "Do you want this back, or not?"
Morgan tilted his head. "If I say yes, are you going to return it by stabbing me?" He didn't sound nearly as concerned about that as someone else might in his situation.
Callum smirked. "Answer the question and find out."
Morgan held his gaze. Without looking away, he gently placed one hand on the blade and pushed it down and to one side. Callum didn't try to stop him, though his grip on the hilt never wavered. "Yes," Morgan said simply. "I would like it back."
Quick as a blink, Callum's grip on the hilt shifted. The blade swung, catching the light and causing a blinding light to flash through the kitchen. When it faded, Callum was again holding the sword out to Morgan — hilt first this time.
Morgan took it, his hand sliding effortlessly into place on the grip. "So you do have a flair for the dramatics," he mused with the first hint of a grin. "I was starting to wonder."
Callum dropped his hand and turned away without a word. He paused, almost imperceptibly, when he spotted Kyra. Most probably wouldn't have noticed. They would have just seen him spin around and walk out, as quickly and stealthily as he'd arrived.

(XD WOOHOO!)
The moment Sol let go of the wheel, Parker was sure that his grip on it would soon follow. There was a lot more pull on it than he was expecting, and he had to use much more strength to keep the wheel steady. And even then, it was a constant battle. "You made this look easy," he commented, trying to remember where exactly Sol had been trying to keep the wheel position to stay on a straight course.
~*~*~
That snapped her back to reality. "Surprise?" she echoed. Anya pushed herself back up into a sitting position, more to prepare if this surprise required a fast reaction. "I thought my surprise was the picnic out here. What more could you have possibly planned?"
~*~*~
Likewise, when Morgan pointed out Callum's presence, Kyra tried to ignore the man as best she could. A hand flew to the hilt of her dagger when the sword tip surged towards Morgan, and it was only Morgan's calm demeanor that kept her from reacting. Had he even shown the slightest bit of concern, she wouldn't have hesitated to drive her blade home into Callum. Other than that, she said nothing to him, nor did she acknowledge the sliver amount of a glance he cast her way when he left. Instead, the woman just watched him leave. "I'll be glad when I don't have to be in close vicinity as him anymore," she muttered, although she really didn't care if Callum overheard her or not.

Sol chuckled and reached up to adjust the wheel just a bit. "Lots of practice," he said. Dropping his hand again, he looked ahead at the deep blue ocean sprawling away before them. "And it's not always so hard anyway. Just when we're going against the current."
~ • ~ • ~ Seth shook his head, still smiling. "Do you not know me at all? I never plan just one surprise." He reached into a pocket dimension and pulled out a bundle of sketch paper. There was about a dozen pages, bound together like a book but clearly handmade. Seth hesitated a moment before offering it to her.
The "cover page" was simple yet stylish, with bold colors and designs. There was no one concrete shape but several half formed ones, all joined together by a line of black that had no beginning and no end. The bright colors made a good backdrop for the continuous line of black, and together they distracted from the words written in a graffiti-like font in the center of the page: The Adventures of Parker.
The next page was mostly blank, with only two words marring the off-white of the paper: For Anya.
Seth hadn't been nervous about showing Anya his artwork since that first time, and that had been force of habit more than anything. Now, though, he was a mess of nerves, and he couldn't remember the last time he had cared so much about what someone else thought.
( Okay, I don't know if Anya will keep flipping or not, so I'm gonna pause there. I can edit this to add in the rest of the books content though if Anya would just keep going. ^^ )
~ • ~ • ~ ( Haha, funny she should mention that, seeing as I've been considering sending him along to Ellesmera with them. Either that, or across the sea with Seth. Haven't decided yet. xD )
Morgan watched Callum until he was gone too. His attention shifted to Kyra when she spoke. He smirked. "I don't know," he said. "I think he's entertaining." He flipped his sword once, his gaze going distant for a brief second as he studied the bright golden blade. Then he blinked back to normal and said the Ancient Language word for small. The sword shrank until it was the size of a pencil, and he put it in his pocket.

Parker did his best, but it felt like he was fighting a losing battle. Every so often, the current would win and the wheel would be jerked one way for a couple of seconds before he could right it. "How do you even know you're still on the right course?" he asked. The ocean around them was endless. With no landmarks, no signs, he couldn't possibly see how they would be able to maintain a steady course. There was the sun position, he knew, that helped establish East and West, but what happened if they drifted too far off course before anything was corrected? How would they know if they were completely and totally lost?
~*~*~
(Okay, first off, this boy done went and wrote some fanfiction for Parker. If he didn't predict him getting a pirate lover, Imma be mad. XD It's either that, or he just illustrated a lot of childhood stories that he's no doubt been told while he had been at the Dorreh home, lol. Second, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!! I had thought that maybe he'd do a simple portrait of Parker for her, but not this! You'll need to add more, at least one or two drawings, because I'm so curious to know what he did. XD)
He had a point. Anya had opened her mouth to ask about what kind of surprise he had, but he had already pulled it out of a pocket dimension and was offering it to her. Gingerly, she took it and land it in her lap. The cover page wasn't something she was used to seeing from Seth. The background was a chaotic mess of colors that somehow appeared to be perfectly placed, creating an almost stained glass piece with the black line running through it. But it wasn't the pretty colors that had her staring at the booklet in stunned silence. It was the words. Her breath caught in her throat as she just reread the title half a million times. She was a little afraid to open it, knowing that, no matter what was inside, she would no doubt lose her composure. After a minute or so, she finally steeled herself to flip open the first page. There was nothing there save for the dedication to her, which came close to getting to her, she wasn't going to lie. Quickly, she flipped along to the next page.
~*~*~
(Oh, you'd make Kyra mad as all hell if you sent Callum with them. XD Callum would probably getting along better with Anya, just because she at least tries to be decent and sociable and whatnot, but man, now I'm tempted by how funny it'd be to have him go with Morgan and Kyra. XD)
"And this is why I will forever call you insane," Kyra replied, dropping her hand from her dagger to cross her arms before her. She looked back in time to see the sword shrink down to tiny form. "The only entertainment he brings is in the form of target practice. Now, what were you going to say before he walked in?"

Sol casually reached up once more to help steer them back on course. Parker's minor slips didn't concern him too much. The Comet was a large vessel; it took a lot to truly turn her, so the wheel spinning a little in either direction didn't alter the course much. If it wasn't corrected, it would eventually have them going off course, but that was what Sol was there for, to make sure that didn't happen.
This time, after adjusting the wheel, Sol also shifted closer and adjusted Parker's grip, one hand at a time. He moved them so Parker's hands were farther apart, almost at three and nine in terms of clock hand positions. He also nudged Parker's feet so they were in a position similar to his fighting stance. It should give him more purchase, a firmer foundation to draw strength, and the wider hands was to give him a bit more control.
Satisfied, Sol eased back a bit, though he remained close enough to assist if necessary. Then he finally answered Parker's question. "The wind and sea tell me," he said simply. He knew these coastal waters better than most anyone. But that didn't really help Parker, so he added, "But most use the sun or the stars. Good seamen can use the currents, though that's a little harder with a big ship. Some have a compass installed beside the helm. But you..." He stepped close once more, and put his face right beside Parker's. He pointed. "See that line of grey there? Just off the port bow?" What he pointed to was barely discernible from the bright blue-grey of the ocean, but it was definitely there. "That's land. You want to keep it ahead and to the left of us." He turned toward Parker, and if he was aware of how close they were, he didn't let on. "That's how you know."
~ • ~ • ~ ( There's no pirate lover, but there's definitely pirates. xD Yeah, I imagine it's a combination of that, and Seth's own adventure story ideas. And don't worry, I always planned to add descriptions of most of the stories. I just wasn't sure how quickly Anya would go through them. ^^ )
The first page was laid out like a comic, with four columns of three panels each, making a total of twelve mini pictures all flowing together to create a short story told through images. A small space at the top had been left for the story's title: Parker and the Bandit. The story itself was about Parker's escape from his kidnappers with the help of a wily bandit. The characters were drawn realistically, with just enough cartoonish edge to add a touch of humor to the whole thing. It was mostly done in simple black and white, but color had been added in some places to emphasize something or, again, to add a bit of humor to the story.
Seth knew what was on the page, so his attention was on Anya, not the story, as he waited anxiously for some reaction. Seeing what was on her face wasn't really helping.
( Do you want me to do this on a page by page basis (i.e., one page per post) or should I just put a bunch into my next post? )
~ • ~ • ~ ( And that's exactly why I've been considering it. xD Mostly, though, I just don't want to leave him hanging. He's becoming too interesting. So he'll either be joining one of the missions, or we can come up with a whole new one for him. I really don't care which. xD )
"Hm?" Morgan thought back. "Oh. I was just gonna say we should put something together before the Veras come down. Cresseida's always preparing food for us, so I thought it'd be nice to return the favor, even if it's just rations."

Parker prided himself in keeping his cool the entire time Sol was helping him into a proper stance to steer the ship. This was just another lesson, a practice drill. This was to help him understand a duty on the ship, and possibly give him some useful knowledge if he were ever to be put into a situation where, gods forbid, he had to be the one at the helm of a ship. Nothing more. But gods help him when he felt Sol lean in beside him, much closer than necessary, he felt his heart go into double time. Since he did have some shred of dignity, he was able to keep his eyes forward and pinpoint the grey line the captain indicated. It was difficult for him to make out the line, but the young man thought he saw a slight color difference on the horizon. That, and he knew Sol wouldn't let him go too far off course, so he wasn't worried about finding it too much. "And what if we were too far out at sea and there is no land to spot?" he asked, daring to cast the briefest of looks Sol's way.
~*~*~
(Darn it. XD Oh, I just know they're all going to be good, whatever they are. XD)
The pictures, as always, were stunning. Seth's artistic ability would always leave her feeling amazed, but the comic before her hit her differently. The details were so life like, that had it now been for the slight cartoonish flares here and there, she would have believed that this were photos taken on the actual escape. How he was able to capture her brother's image and demeanor in just twelve simple pictures was incredible. Had he been there, Parker might have even laughed and boasted about how he had "escaped" from the slavers. Her eyes scanned the page at least four times before she flipped on to the next.
(You can just go on and dump a bunch into the next post, because Anya's reactions are going to be pretty much the same after each one. I think two or three more will be fine, if you have that many thought out.)
~*~*~
(Kyra: You send him with us, and I swear, I'll be sure to be your worst nightmare for the rest of your life.)
Kyra nodded. "There should be plenty still in the bags. I've checked on everything last night, and things looked fine. I can run out there and grab something if you want," she said.

At that, Sol paused. "Ah, well. For that, I think you'll need a few lessons on navigation first. It can be very, very easy to get lost out at sea." He looked up at the sky, squinting slightly against the sunlight. "Although, some of my best learning experiences happened while I was lost. Some of my best adventures too. So maybe it wouldn't be so bad letting you get us lost sometime."
~ • ~ • ~ ( Yeah, Seth avoided romance in general with these stories. He wasn't around Parker enough to know for sure his preferences. Seth is observant, but Parker isn't really obvious with his sexual preferences when there isn't a hot pirate hitting on him. xD Seth probably saw enough to suspect, but not to be sure. So, yeah. No romance. Sorry. ;D )
( Honestly, I'm mostly thinking these up on the spot, so I could probably find ideas for all seven stories. xD )
At some point, Aidan came and sat on Anya's other side, looking over her shoulder at Seth's work. His eyes widened in surprise and delight, but he stayed quiet aside the occasional "Ooh" or "Cool!"
The second page was laid out like a comic as well, but without the neat columns. Instead, the images were done in boxes of various sizes, and while the order was still clear, they weren't very orderly or organized. The title at the top read: Parker and the Ghost. It was about a haunted inn Parker stayed in on his journey home. The bandit from the first story featured in it again, and they worked together to convince the ghost to turn from naughty to nice.
The third page wasn't a story but rather an image of Parker, captured from Seth's memory. It was back during their field work days. The picture showed as much, and even had some of the other Dorreh men in the background. But the main focus was Parker, and it showed him laughing at something one of his brothers had said. The image was drawn as accurately to the day as Seth could make it.
The next two pages were more stories. Page four was called Parker and the Thief, and was about Parker's things getting stolen, leaving him to recruit help from his bandit pal once more to get everything back. They were successful, but not without facing challenges. Page five was titled: Parker Kidnapped — Again. It was about what one might expect from such a title, and ended with Parker eventually rescuing himself.
The sixth page was another portrait. This one showed Parker during one of his protective big brother moments. Seth had purposely left the background kind of indistinct and almost blurry, making it difficult to see where he was. His reasoning was that it didn't matter where Parker was. Parker himself is what mattered, and Seth had drawn him in such a way that he looked fierce and capable, more than ready for any challenge. Again, it was based on one of Seth's memories and drawn as close to the real thing as Seth could make it. Parker probably hadn't even realized how tough he looked at the time. Seth had chosen that memory to show Anya that Parker had it in him to survive this kidnapping and make it home in one piece.
Next came two more stories, one about Parker and his bandit buddy finding and then escaping from a not-so-friendly band of pirates; the other about a run in with a traveling group of performers who try to recruit Parker to their ranks.
Page nine was one more portrait. This one featured Anya and Corrik with Parker, and while it was as well done as the other two, it was simple in it's portrayal of the three of them in a moment of happiness.
The last page was a compilation of half-finished concept sketches. Most were drawings of Parker, each done in a different style. There were other sketches too, of the different characters that did and didn't make it into the stories, and even a few hand written notes, proving the page was a practice sheet, from when Seth was trying to find the right drawing style for the stories. He had added it to the booklet because he thought Anya might like to see some of the steps he went through to create the big masterpieces she had seen. They didn't often just happen. Practice sketches and planning occured a lot behind the scenes, something most didn't seem to realize.
~ • ~ • ~ ( Is that threat supposed to dissuade me? Cause it's totally having the opposite effect. 😈 )
"Would you like some help?" Morgan asked. Getting food for six people could prove a lot to carry, unless it was all in one bag. Even then, it could be fairly heavy, depending on what all was in the bag. These were the excuses he had ready, in any case. Telling her he just wanted to be near her probably wouldn't go over well after yesterday.

Parker chuckled at that. "I'm sure the rest of the crew would have a different opinion on that," he said. "As well as all the people still wanting to be returned home. So maybe we'll have to put a rain check on me getting us lost."
~•~•~
(Lol, no, you're right. Poor boy got good at hiding it, so I can't blame Seth for not knowing. Still, it'd be funny. Like, when they meet Parker on the ship and they come to find out he's dating Sol Seth could have been all like, "I knew it!" XD )
Before she knew it, Anya had flipped through the entire booklet. The stories were well written and illustrated. Every word she could hear in her brother's voice, and there was just enough humor in it that would have made her laugh had she bit been so choked up. But out of it all, she had lingered on the portraits more than the stories. Each one, especially the first two, had captured moments in time she had witnessed many times before. They showcased the two sides of Parker that he could switch between at a drop of a dime. Both were images of him she feared she's never see again in person.
At the last picture, with the two of them sitting with Corrik, she couldn't stand it anymore. Closing the book, she hugged it close to her chest as the sobs tore free. She really hadn't meant to stop crying. The fifth was incredible, and she loved it but it also brought back how much she missed her twin and how much she hoped that what hmSeth had wrote about was true.
~•~•~
(Kyra: I will derail every single plan you've made for this plot, just watch me.)
Her first instinct was to day she could get it. Yeah the rations for six would be a lot, but she could manage. But Morgan was making an effort to act normal. She could to. "If you want. Most of it is in Shara's saddle bags," she replied as she headed for the door.

"I'm okay with that." He didn't mention that Parker was one of those people waiting to get home. That was a discussion that could wait. Sol glanced upward again, his eyes scanning the sky before returning to the helm and Parker.
~ • ~ • ~ ( Haha, yeah. That's definitely happening now. I've already got the whole scene planned out on my head. xD )
( Oh no. Anya, why'd you have to go and cry? xD )
When Anya abruptly closed the booklet and started crying, both Seth and Aidan flinched back, startled. Aidan inched away, wide-eyed, but Seth moved closer, looking guilty. He put an arm around her and pulled her close. "I'm sorry," he whispered. "I didn't mean to upset you. I just..." He lowered his head so it almost rested on hers. "I'm sorry."
~ • ~ • ~ ( I will watch, and I will laugh every time until you fail. 🤣😈 )
"Well, obviously," Morgan said as he followed her. "Kyon is the only other dragon out there, and I know there isn't a lot of food in his saddle bag, seeing as he's my dragon and all." He paused after speaking, wondering if that would come across as rude or confrontational. He hadn't meant it too. Or had he? Kyra was trying to act normal, like last night hadn't happened, but she wasn't nearly as good at that sort of thing as he was. And her failed attempts at normal just kept reminding him of what he was trying very hard to forget. So maybe he was subconsciously looking to pick a fight with her. Oops.

"You might be because it won't be you they'd come after," Parker pointed out. "They'll be coming after me because I got us all lost, and I'd rather not be thrown overboard."
~*~*~
(Hehe, yes!
And because she's an emotional wreck. What else was going to happen? XD)
Anya leaned into Seth's embrace, shaking her head even as it rested on his shoulder. "N-No, y-you didn't," she got out in between sobs. "I-it's incredible, and I love it. I-I just want t-to know h-he's as okay a-as you think he is." Parker wasn't dead, that much she knew. She would have known if he had been killed. Or, at least, that's what she made herself to believe. It was the part about him being able to escape the slavers she had a hard time believing. On his own, it would have been difficult, but if he really did have help, then maybe he was out there trying to make his way back home, filling the days with adventures like the ones Seth had created.
~*~*~
(Kyra: Then I'll just refuse to cooperate altogether. See how you like that.)
Kyra cut him a sideways look, but, it just so happened that he was on her blind side, so she couldn't see him unless he turned her head fully, and she wasn't going to do that. "And what if I had spent the afternoon rearranging the food rations in case there was an emergency, Mister Smartass?" she asked. Yeah, then Kyon might have already told him about it, but still. She as running on too little sleep and too worked up nerves to care if he was simply making a joke.

"I believe the key word there is 'eventually,'" Parker said with another chuckle. "I guess just give me ten minutes and we'll either be completely lost or shipwrecked. Shall I try?"
~•~•~
(My point exactly. XD)
Anya didn't know survivors was the right term. Yeah, they had made their living working land that no one else seemed worthy to cultivate, but she considered that perseverance and the will to prove others wrong. As for her surviving assassins, she just got lucky. But Parker was strong in many ways and wasn't one to go down without a fight. Her crying slowly calmed, little by little. "I just wish there was a way we could track him or communicate with him. If there was a spell, then maybe he could give us at least a hint of where he is."
~•~•~
(Kyra: 😠)
"The kind that might require us to split up. There's no way one dragon can carry everyone, so I assumed that we'd spread out over both dragons, Ian with one group, I with the other. That way, if we ran into trouble and needed to hide fast, splitting up could be an option, and both groups would have a guide back to the camp," Kyra stated. "If such an emergency were to arise and one group took longer to reach the camp due to having to take a longer route, they'd still have some rations to fall back on if there was no hunting available. Any more stupid questions?"
