As the woman studied him, Noel studied her. She was young, and so distinct that he felt certain he'd recognise her months from now even after just this short interaction. Her hair alone was notable, a pink so pale it seemed to him she must have spent a lifetime getting it bleached and dyed, but that wasn't where it ended. Her fashion, too, was unique, although simple. It suited her well, though, and matched the cafe's atmosphere so well it felt strange to be dressed the way he was.
"Absolutely," he said with a smile, reaching into an interior pocket of his jacket for his wallet. He paid quickly, slipping a small tip into the tip jar in the same movement, then tucked it back into its pocket. It was a fair price, cheaper than he'd expected from such a small, seemingly self-owned cafΓ© currently utterly empty of customers save for him.
As he was invited to take a seat, Noel nodded. "Thanks." With another polite nod, he turned to closer inspect the cafΓ© and pick a seat. There were several good options - one centered by the window, looking out over the dark street; another beneath a wall covered in greenery; yet another tucked into a corner close to the window, shielded from the counter by a small bookshelf. Usually, he'd have gone for the latter so he could get some work done, but he had nothing pressing tonight, so he moved to the window so he could look out into the night.
It wasn't long before the woman returned, bringing his coffee and a slice of banana bread which she set down on the table before him. "Oh," he said, pleasantly surprised. "Thank you!" He would eat it, though she'd assured him he didn't have to. It smelled so tempting he was unable to resist.
Noel expected her to leave right away, but she lingered a moment. A moment passed in silence, then she asked why he'd come. It was an odd question, but not so strange as to be uncomfortable. Rather, it was a mildly amusing thing to ask. "I work late most days," he replied, breaking off a small piece of banana bread. "I took a detour home and noticed your cafΓ©. I live nearby, but I'd never noticed it before. I figured I might as well come in." Truth be told, he wasn't quite certain himself why he'd stepped inside. Well, he knew he'd been compelled by a desperate curiosity, but what had awoken it was a greater mystery. Perhaps he was simply a more curious person than he knew.

The woman seemed to come to a little, which Noel met with a polite smile. "Medium, and just black, please," he said. He'd never been a particularly experimental coffee drinker, though he had taken to drinking five-shot americanos during college and never quite managed to quit the habit. If anything, law school had made it worse. The darker and more bitter his coffee, the better he liked it, and that applied to brews as well.
She brought his attention to the cat, who he realised must've been watching him since he entered. He gave a nod of acknowledgment and offered his hand to the creature to inspect. "What's his name?" he asked with mild curiosity, not looking away from the brown feline. It seemed odd to have a cat on the counter, but then, he'd heard of cat cafΓ©s, though he'd always thought they'd have closer to a dozen cats. It was possible, he supposed, to have a single cat in a cafΓ© just as it was possible to have a single cat in a bookstore or dog at a hairdresser's. Sure. It wasn't the strangest thing imaginable. And somehow, the feline seemed inevitable in this space. It wasn't as if it would have struck him as a usual coffee shop if the cat had been elsewhere.

Adrian let the door fall closed as the other boy walked in, then frowned as he turned to the class. Where was he supposed to sit? Were there assigned seats so he was supposed to wait, or could he simply find a chair and unpack? He looked to a girl near the front of the classroom and raised a hand questioningly, to which she smiled warmly.
"The seat over here is usually empty," she said, tone friendly. She pointed to the desk diagonally to her left, two seats in front of where Winter had sat down.
Adrian grinned. "Thanks." He went to sit down. After all, he wasn't picky about it. "I'm Adrian," he said, looking back to her as he unpacked his stuff.
"Abbie," the girl replied, the corners of her eyes creasing in a smile.

The air was cool when Noel left the office, the sky rapidly darkening. This was not strange. More days than not, the sun had long since started setting by the time he made his way home. It was not surprising, although unusual, if the sun had already started dipping below the horizon. As exhausting as the long hours were, Noel relished his late walk home every single day. There was something about the city on a weekday night; asleep, but so alive. People passed him alone or in small groups, but there were no crowds The streets were lit by streetlights and the dim glow from homes far above, but the sky was a swath of murky blueness. No air tasted as sweet as the cool breeze after a day indoors and no light was as comforting as a golden glow in darkness.
Usually, he made his way straight home. It was already a half hour's walk, so he rarely felt the urge to draw it out. Today, he did. The streets were emptier than expected, and the weather pleasant. The sun had been out all day, and the earth retained that heat even now that the air was colder. He didn't feel ready to go home, not just yet, and so he took a turn where he would have normally gone straight ahead, figuring he could loop around whenever the want of wandering left him.
He'd been walking in silence for only another minute or two when he noticed it. From down an alley he'd never walked before, or at least not paid attention to walking down, came a warm light. Noel paused, surprised. The light, he saw immediately once he looked down the narrow road, was coming from a single building. Compelled by a sudden curiousity, he approached. CafΓ© Luna, a seemingly handpainted sign above the shop window read. It was a cozy place, small but well looked after, by what he could tell. He considered for a moment, then stepped forward. What could it hurt to take a closer look?
The bell above Noel's head gave a sweet ring as the door swung open, then closed behind him. The cafΓ© was warm, and filled with a soft melody coming from behind the counter. It was purposefully decorated. Plenty of greenery gave a sense of life to the room, despite it being entirely empty, save for him, a young woman he could only assume owned the place, and a cat. It was nice. Not his usual style, but comforting in a way.
Noel gave the woman a small, polite smile as she spoke, considering her question. It was late for a coffee, usually he'd be home by now. Still. It wasn't as though he wanted to go home yet, even if he did decide to leave. "Do you have decaf?" he asked. He should at least give himself a chance to get some sleep tonight.

i've been camping one time, except for times i've 'camped' in my back garden, and it was a complete mess ahaha unexpectedly, we ended up in gale-force winds that knocked the tent down on us while we were sleeping. we managed to get it back up and for some reason my parents decided we should at least sleep through the night. the next morning while we were eating breakfast with some friends, a group of people came running to inform us that our tent had lifted off and was currently flying across the campground. we didn't put the tent back up after that.
on this same trip, i fell and badly injured my knee. i sprained it pretty badly, and also got a decently big wound that became infected and took nearly 4 months to fully heal. still have a massive scar from that haha

~ Noel Flores ~ 26 ~ he/him
* * *
If there is one thing in life that Noel is grateful for, it's that he took after his mother. Looking nothing like his father and half-sister is not something that bothers him, in fact, he relishes in it. He's of average height, perhaps ever so slightly on the taller side at 5'11, and leanly muscled. His hair - which he refuses to cut short, forcing him to spend more time than he'd like on making himself presentable for work - is pitch black and thick with a slight wave pattern. His large eyes are paler but still dark, a deep brown which turns auburn in direct sunlight. Thanks to his strong jaw and brow, his expression is often hard set, and even when at rest, he looks a little annoyed. His skin is a few shades darker than his half siblings, something he thanks his mother's subcontinental roots. He has two small but easily identifiable facial scars, just by the inner corner of his left eyebrow and another across his left upper lip. He couldn't tell you when or where he got them, but knows they've been there since childhood. He also has several cleverly placed tattoos he keeps hidden under his clothes most of the time. The largest of these is a snake on the right side of his ribcage. When asked, he claims it to be for protection, but the glint in his eye when he says so implies something else. Other notable examples include the rose on his forearm, and the vine that wraps up his arm, over his shoulder and over his collarbone. When working, Noel is carefully and professionally styled in neatly ironed shirts and muted ties. His hair is usually slicked back, and he wears minimal jewelry. During his limited free time, he has a much more casual style, though he still likes to dress up in finer shirts and slacks. He then tends towards a looser look, both in regards to his hair and clothes, and puts back in the ear piercings and nose ring he got in high school, as well as allows himself to wear more jewelry. As he's spent more time working, he's shifted further and further from his previous fashion which tended towards darker colours and a purposeful messiness, but he continues to stubbornly refuses to cut his hair or let his piercings close.
Noel is, above all other things, loyal. He picks his causes, people, and beliefs with great care and then he sticks by them with an unwavering certainty - perhaps too unwavering. He's a fighter, and willing not only to fight for things he believes in but for the fun of it; there are few things he finds as motivating as some form of conflict, likely due to his ferocious competitiveness. He's incredibly combative, and skilled at provoking others. Though you might not think it, with how passionate and emotional he tends to be, Noel is a calculating man. He knows how to get his way through brute force, certainly, but more often than not he prefers to get it through peaceful, perhaps even sneaky, methods. He is highly aware of the extent and limits of his capabilities and power and knows he can and must use both to his best ability to progress. With his friends, Noel is an outgoing, chatty and sometimes even humorous individual. He enjoys talking about himself, and tries to but sometimes fails to be attentive to others. He is, however, fundamentally selfish. He tries to remain self-aware and make sure he doesn't harm other people in his own self-interest, but often struggles to remain a positive presence in other people's lives. However, he's determined to do so, especially in relationships he values and with people he loves and cares for. His self-serving nature, paired with great ambition and somewhat high intelligence, has served Noel well through the years and turned him into a hard and resilient worker. He values the work he produces over his time, which means his work-life balance has always been skewed, though to varying extents. It has allowed him to achieve a lot in his relatively short life, but he's lost out on a lot in his youth as a result.
Noel's father was once a powerful judge, and Noel was the product of an affair between him and his mother, a paralegal at a local law firm. The scandal that surrounded his birth was a huge blow to his father's reputation and standing, which has led to a lot of resentment from his father and his father's wife, as well as a few of his half-siblings. Since moving away from his hometown for college, he's become close to the oldest of his sisters, however. Noel grew up surrounded by the law, and knew by 13 that he wanted to become a lawyer. After graduating high school at 17, he went on to college and then law school, and he passed the bar at 24. For a little over a year now, he's worked long hours as a legal clerk at one of the larger local law firms, where he hopes to make a career.
* * * this dude has like exactly the face i imagine for noel, but a very different style, so disregard his fashion haha

that's a good idea. the first thing that comes to mind is maybe the banshee saw the death of one of the vampire's victims and got curious? though of course that depends on their character so it's up to you if you think that's plausible. or maybe they cross paths somewhat regularly and the banshee figures out that the vampire is already dead, which raises some questions

very lighthearted of course, but most references to fast food on the english speaking internet go right over my head. i feel vibes when i see the words denny's or cheesecake factory, but i know nothing at all about them except that they make me feel some indescribable way. istg i learn something new about some american resturant i barely knew existed on a daily basis
people who don't listen to music/podcasts/audiobooks etc as they go through life. i have something on nearly all the time that i'm awake, with basically the only breaks being if i'm talking to someone or in class. my mum listened to like 10 hours of music all throughout 2021, and i definitely do that in like 1-2 days. nothing against it, obviously, i just don't get it

no. as soon as i realise it's a dream, i can't be resentful
i did once dream that two of my friends were dating secretly behind my back. a third mutual friend let it slip accidentally and then made me promise not to tell because they hadn't wanted me to know for some totally understandable reason i no longer remember. i woke up so determined to keep the secret non-existant relationship a secret that i felt bad for having heard in the first place. all three of the involved friends just about died laughing when i told them about the dream, visibly anxious. i knew it was a dream, but my subconscious had convinced me i was breaking a promise and showing that someone else had done the same that i did felt significant anxiety telling them about it. now it's a good laugh though! so if i did dream something that made me angry, i guess its possible i would stay angry until i can confront it, but idk since its never happened to such an extent. i'm generally an anxious person in my dreams/nightmares, very rarely angry.

maybe we start out with something smaller, like another supernatural creature and if need be we can step it up. maybe one or a group or grim reapers? they could possibly have a connection to higher power/s or just be frustrated that their vital (heh) work is being made much harder by these two depending on if we feel like we need to raise the stakes down the line.

that works for me, absolutely! it's always fun to change up the setting as the plot moves along. there's always oxford, though i'd call that a midsized town? or we could choose a larger city somewhere on the british/irish islands and then make a fake town in the vicinity somewhere

does milo count? cause if so, milo. of the ones attached to an official disney princess, probably flynn Who's Milo? I suppose he can count he's the male lead in Atlantis! he's a bit nerdy and very straight forward, well intentioned but a bit awkward. 100% recommend watching the movie if you haven't, it'sone of my favourites disney's ever released

i love rapunzel for her optimism and enthusiasm, and relate to that often turning to and from anxiety, so she might be my favourite. i also really like cinderella, i find her kindness very inspiring. she's probably one of the princesses im least like, but also one of the ones i most want to be more like

i've recently been eating a frankly ridiculous amount of raspberries. especially fresh, but also frozen or in crumbles or other baked goods. so good Can't go wrong with some good fruit. :) so true! unfortunately there's so many good fruits i can't eat bc of allergies/food sensitivities, but i gorge myself on what i can eat to make up for it! raspberries especially, apparently. i should budget for them specifically tbh

i don't think i'd ever eat a frozen pizza roll, but i used to eat uncooked ramen all the time. probably still would if i had any at home. i also eat frozen meatballs (which are definitely supposed to be fried) by gnawing off a tiny bit at a time, which i assume must not be so different to eating frozen tater tots - though i've never even had one that's cooked.
also, it's kind of the opposite, but when i was little i'd sometimes heat my soda to drink it. like, steaming hot lol i don't do this anymore but i liked it back then.

fake it till you make it is the way of life indeed lol
having it be set somewhere akin to the british-irish isles makes sense to me! what kind of atmosphere are we looking for? maybe that could help guide us to a specific city/area? idk. i could see it either going in a dark academia direction with lots of rain and old architechture, a light academia direction with more open space but still the same older architechture, or a more modern vibe. of course, there are literally millions of directions it could go, so if you have any other ideas let me know!

which would you prefer? i think that using made up names/locations might be easier given that we almost certainly have very different frames of reference seeing as i'm european and only know american cities from films. but i've done research on existing cities for rps before, so if there's not an expectation of great accuracy or specificity, i can do that as well. or we could set it somewhere else i suppose. many options haha

i think my main one is music. whenever i'm anxious, or when i'm not for that matter, i can put on a familiar artist or playlist and immediately feel a little more at ease.
i also find a lot of comfort in books, journaling, art, and my cats
