At the long period finally passed with the good works from the doctor Kim couldn't help herself from yelling. "Thank god! Thank you doctor!" She didn't full out scream, but it was loud enough. She didn't protest to waiting for Nathan in his room. She wanted to be the first one to hug him once he was awake. She let the doctor finish, and then turned to follow the nurse who would lead them to Nathan's room. The relief of knowing her best friend was alive, and well kept Kim from crying anymore. Her face was still blank as she wanted to see for her own eyes that he was okay.
Upon entering the room she paced around it, inspecting it for any signs that it was unfit for her bestfriend to recover it. It seemed to be a simple enough room that one would find in a hospital, and thankfully for the staff it was pretty clean so Kim didn't have to complain. The room seemed good enough, and so now was just the extra wait for them to bring in her dear best friend Nathan back into her sight. She leaned by a window as she stared at the door like a hawk waiting for Nathan to be rolled in by the nurses.
(Once again sorry for this lame post-)

(( Alrighty Aviva, Again I'm so sorry for taking so long. Dx I seriously have no idea how I forgot... This may not be the best starter out there, but I'm really hoping it'll make up for forgetting like that.))
Living on the streets at a young age never would be the hope for loving parents. Children all need to be raised with love and care, not in a laboratory. Not where they got stuck with needles and cut on, not where they were locked in cages and barely interacted with. What parent would wish that on their child?
For Max and Todd that wasn't really the case. Since birth they knew only the white walls and cold rooms of the experimental laboratory they were raised in. They only knew the pain of needles and being dummies, tested on day in and day out to create the ultimate weapon to be used against other nations in future wars. A way to make America the most powerful and most feared nation. Yes, more powerful and scary than nukes, far worse. It may sound farfetched, and it sure was for the delusional scientists, but did that stop them?
No, it didn't. What did stop them was the US government. After so many failures, they were forced to shut them down for good. With no where to go, the laboratory had two options: put all their hard work down and just euthanize all of those experiments to be forgotten, or let out that anger towards the government and let those monster loose. Naturally, they were let loose, the two only survivors left by that time. Those survivors were young twins. They lived there until they aged to be six, and that was when they were cut loose.
And now the two small children were left alone in some scary area they didn't know. By now it had been a week since their departure, and they only recently found themselves in a city full of loud noises and tall buildings that almost everyone knew as Chicago. The noises hurt their ears and the pollution burned their noses and made their eyes water. This place was absolutely terrible...
Right now was the rainy season of the big city. At only noon, three inches had already been dumped down, and the two twins had been left to just soak as they journeyed to find shelter. Occasionally the rain would stop, then start once more. This went on day in and day out, even at night like it currently was. The night was so much worse though. With no heat from the hidden sun and a gust of wind that occasionally almost sent them sailing with it, they were only able to shiver against the pelting rain.
"I'm cold Max..." one twin, slightly shorter scrawny, complained quietly through chattering teeth. Max, who was taller but just as scrawny, could only nod, reaching out to grab his brother's hand. "And hungry." Max added quietly. He stopped for a moment to look around, eyes squinting through the rain. "And sleepy. Very sleepy." he yawned, and Todd only yawned, showing his agreement from that. They needed somewhere to stay, but that was always impossible. No matter where they hid for the night, they always got run off by a mean person.

(Once again sorry for this lame post-) (( Your post is not lame! <3 )) Travis hastily walked behind the nurse to get up to the floor. They went up an elevator and Travis counting each 'ding' as they went up one more floor. One, two, three... Up to fifteen. Talk about high up? He sure hoped there was a nice view for Nathan to look at. He always knew how he loved to sightsee, and maybe it could help distract him. Once they made it out of the elevator it was a straight walk down a hall tog et to his room, number 1528. Travis ran that number through his head countless times to remember it in case he had to leave or tell someone where to go if and when he got a visitor. The extra waiting wasn't as terrible as before. But he was still itching to get to see his friend again. To think he had almost lost him because of a dumb mistake... Had Travis done his job and been a responsible lifeguard, this wouldn't have ever happened. Figures he had to be distracted by that group of girls playing volleyball... Figures they had to come up and flirt with him... Figures he had to see the scene only after one girl started screaming "shark"... Most likely he would lose his job for that terrible blunder. Finally, after again what seemed like an eternity, Travis heard the door open and saw the back of a nurse as they pulled on the head of the bed, another nurse pushing on the other side so they would have great control. And Travis had expected to be excited when they finally put him into a nice spot and let him get settled, but when he saw his friend's pale face that was usually so tan, it almost made him cry. Nathan didn't look himself. Besides his arm being completely gone now, only his shoulder remaining after the freak accident. He was just so pale, and a frown seemed to be settled on his lips rather than the look of a peaceful slumber. Was he dreaming maybe? When a doctor walked in, Travis looked over at him, and was lucky to hear words before he had to ask. "Your friend should be awake soon. I'm sure you can tell just by looking that he completely lost his right arm. There was extensive nerve damage on his right leg also that may give him a little trouble, but he should still be able to walk and everything else. It'll just take time to recover that strength back." he informed them, glancing from one teen to the other.

(Woo I finally break the curse of bad replies!)
Kim was pacing around when the doors finally opened with the nurses, and more importantly her best friend laying in the bed. She wanted so very much to hug him, and see him all put back together. However her smile soon turned back into her worried face when she realized his arm was still gone. She tilted her head to look at the doctor, but really she didn't care what he had to say past Nathan was alive. Not back in one piece, but alive. I mean what did she expect Nathan to grow back a hand, it wasn't like she even had looked for it in the sea to bring back for them to attempt the impossible of putting it back on.
Once Nathan's nurses were done hooking him up she moved closer, really as close as she could get as she stared down at his pale face. Her eyes seemed to linger on his missing arm. She wasn't freaked out by it, no she was more worried how her best friend would feel about that. She knew he had that dream of being a pro surfer, and well missing a limb would derail that if not throw it off course all the way. That was if he even wanted to get in the water again knowing that monster was still lurking about.
Yes she had just deemed her favorite creature a monster. A creature she used to joke about hugging, and studying was now nothing more than a demon of the sea in her eyes. She didn't have any dream of hunting sharks now, no it wasn't that bad she just didn't wish to hug them anymore, or even look at one. She could still see that fin swimming away in the bloody sea. The one good thing was it had been a tiger so she could still old her dear ole mako close, though she probably wouldn't defend even makos anymore. Most sharks wouldn't be on her list of favorite critters anymore.
She placed her hand on Nathan's pale cheek as she looked at his face now deciding to leave the shoulder be. She wanted to be the first person he opened his eyes to, or did she? She was the girl who didn't save him in time. Travis could say it was his fault, but really if anyone was to blame it was the girl who left her shark bait of a friend alone so she could show off her poor surfing abilities. If she had just been next to him she'd have seen the beast, and warned Nathan. Not even that if she hadn't made Nathan watch her he could have seen it coming. If she hadn't been staring at the wave beside her she could have quickly moved to Nathan, and punched the shark, or something. Anything to make it turn out differently. "Oh Nathan...." She mumbled silently tears forming in her eyes some of regret, some of guilt, and some of joy that her friend did at the very least have a life. She would be his right arm if he needed her to be.

Skylar loved the rain. She loved staring out the window as the drops fell, loved laying in bed at night and listening to the gentle music of water against her window, loved the smell of the wet air and the way everything sparkled after the storm passed, looking fresh and new and clean. One of her happiest, earliest memories involved the rain, involved a father that still cared holding her hand and a little brother that still smiled and laughed and breathed trotting beside her and jumping in every puddle he saw. Perhaps the fact that the two people she loved and missed the most were in that memory was why rain fascinated her so much.
But let's get one thing straight. Slow traffic on a rainy night, where the rain poured down so heavily that she couldn't see fifteen feet ahead of her was not the sort of thing that she was a fan of.
Traffic was aggravating. Skylar knew that just as well as the slowpoke in front of her and lamented it as much as the poor bloke stuck in his car behind her, wishing he'd taken a different route home. Chicago's Loop during rush hour was jam packed with bumper-to-bumper traffic that moved forward at a snail's pace and irritated drivers headed home from work. It wasn't the most exciting place on Earth on a sunny day; on a rainy Wednesday afternoon, the place ranked below Hell on a list of places that Skylar wanted to be right now. But I digress.
By the time she made it through the Loop and onto a street where it was actually possible to drive the speed limit, she was tired and hungry and wanted nothing more than to curl up in front of the telly and sleep. Unfortunately, she had obligations that involved a cat and a stack of midterm papers to grade. Ugh.
She pulled onto her street, feeling a headache starting to come on. Why was it that the days that she wanted to relax were the days that she had the most work to do? It wasn't fair.
Maybe she should quit her job. She was only twenty five, but surely retirement was an option? She could move to Massachusetts, or maybe back to London, where she grew up. Yeah, that would be nice. Maybe--
She was so lost in her miserable thoughts that she didn't notice the two boys huddled beneath her covered driveway until she nearly ran them over. Yelping, she slammed on the brakes, screeching to a halt just short of them.
"Bloody hell," she hissed, throwing the car into park. A pair of runaways was the last thing she needed right now. Grabbing a newspaper off the passenger seat, she used it as an umbrella, holding it over her head as she got out of her car and slammed the door.
"Oi! What're you--" she began, starting toward them, before breaking off when she got a good look at them. They were young, she realized, no older than six years old. Children. Alone, cold, and scared.
Exasperated, she dropped her newspaper arm to her side. Bloody hell, it keeps getting worse, doesn't it?
She stifled a sigh. "You two should be getting home," she scolded, starting toward them. "Your parents must be worried out of their minds. Don't you realize how late it is?"
Angry British women are so cute tho lmao))
