RiverClan apparently loses alot of cats during the battle, iirc. I wonder who. Pikepaw or Primrosepaw will likely be among them, and poor Mistyfoot if that turns out to be the case. I also seem to remember Leopardstar actually wanting to lead her Clan someplace else and it's Firestar who urges her to fight.

Hahaha, Leopardstar went from "let's rebel!" to "imsorrytigerstarplzdonthurtme ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/6575102/images/RCFqazfvhbMAeE5hIhD3.gif) (((" in the span of 5 seconds, that's pretty funny. I was about to say, last chapter sounded REAL bold for someone who we know is yellow in the end. Kind of crazy that it was Blackfoot who first started dismantling the Bonehill rather than Leopardstar. Well, not crazy, she is yellow, but still. Mudfur telling Leopardstar to get off her butt and actually do something useful for once is amazing. And yes, I do think it'd be interesting to see the TDH bits from Leopardstar's POV

Loudbelly is Pikepaw's mentor? Yay! At least one of them gets a confirmed mentor. I still believe that Primrosepaw and Pikepaw die within the battle, as sad as it will be. I also really want to meet Skyheart's kits and hope they're born before the book ends. Two more chapters left.

Poor Gorsepaw! I also wonder what he whispered, probably something generic and lame, like how he would see WindClan crumble, and like he would soon cease to exist, so would his clan.
Leopardstar talking about Loudbelly sacrificing his apprentice and knowing Pikepaw dies as an apprentice..well buddy, things aren't looking good for you. I really hope they say who Reedwhisker's mentor was.

Chapter 34: Sunningrocks shines in the weak leaf-bare sun. The conversation with Firestar had gone well. She agreed to merge into LionClan and fight BloodClan, and Firestar had given her permission to be there. She looks at Sunningrocks, and wonders if this piece of land would ever be RiverClan's again. She wonders if they would own their own territory by tomorrow, and lifts her chin, saying they must, as they're warriors.
Mistyfoot then appears, coming across from ThunderClan territory. Seeing her gaze once more makes Leopardstar feel like a wound has reopened in her heart, and notes to herself that Mistyfoot's gaze looks so much like Stonefur's. Leopardstar dips her head and thanks her for coming, and as she pushes her paws into the ground, she knows that she needs to hear out Mistyfoot's words, no matter how harsh they'll be. Mistyfoot's eyes shimmer, and murmurs she knows that Leopardstar will be fighting with them against BloodClan. Leopardstar mews that RiverClan will be joining with ThunderClan and WindClan to drive out BloodClan. Mistyfoot mutters that Tigerstar would have never agreed to support Firestar. Leopardstar mews that Tigerstar is dead, and Mistyfoot asks if she's the leader of TigerClan now. Leopardstar insists that TigerClan is no more. Mistyfoot grunts that ShadowClan warriors are still on her territory. Leopardstar says she's giving them shelter, as they were victims of Tigerstar just like she herself was.
Mistyfoot looks appalled when Leopardstar calls herself a victim, and her gaze hardens as she didn't really seem to act as one when she, Stonefur, and the apprentices were made prisoners. Leopardstar looks at her paws in shame, and asks how Featherpaw and Stormpaw are doing. Mistyfoot mews they're well, and they have new mentors in ThunderClan. Leopardstar asks if that means they're not coming back. Mistyfoot, almost growling, asks if she's surprised. Leopardstar says they're RiverClan. Mistyfoot's mew is bitter, and she says that she wished Leopardstar believed that a quarter moon ago. Leopardstar says she believes it now. Mistyfoot only looks at her with sadness, and Leopardstar figures she's remembering Stonefur, and knows all too well that her change of heart had come too late for her late deputy.
Lifting her muzzle, Leopardstar says "I'm sorry. I was wrong to make RiverClan part of TigerClan. I should have seen that Tigerstar was greedy only for power. As soon as I saw that he was a threat, I should have stood up to him. I should have protected you. It's my fault Stonefur died. I will never forgive myself. I don't know how I could have doubted him. I don't know how I could have doubted any of my Clanmates, no matter their blood. None of you showed any disloyalty. You loved RiverClan as much as I did. But I changed RiverClan into something no warrior could love. Now I'm looking to change it back. I'm going to rebuild it."
Mistyfoot looks away, sadly mewing "What does that to mean to me, Stonefur, or to Featherpaw or Stormpaw? We have a new Clan now. ThunderClan accepted us completely. They don't care about our blood. They care only that we are willing to hunt and fight for our Clanmates."
Leopardstar fluffs out her fur, and says she understands, but she'd still like to ask Mistyfoot that if they survive the battle, she wants her to come home and help her rebuild. Mistyfoot's eyes betray nothing, and Leopardstar adds she'd like Mistyfoot as her deputy, and she can't think of a better cat than her to help her. Mistyfoot frowns, and asks if she would listen to her as she did Stonefur, and that she ignored Stonefur's warnings. Leopardstar admits she was wrong, and she's learned from it. She's learned from everything that's happened. She wants Mistyfoot to advise her, and be her conscience when she's uncertain. Mistyfoot hesitates, and then answers that she can't give an answer right now. Leopardstar nods, and says to take all the time she needs. She thinks to herself that the wounds inflicted on her Clanmates will likely never heal until Mistyfoot, Stormpaw, and Featherpaw return.
Mistyfoot turns away, saying she should go. Leopardstar mews as she leaves that one day, she hopes Mistyfoot can forgive her. As Leopardstar turns away, padding past Sunningrocks, Mistyfoot begins calling her name. She turns around and sees Mistyfoot hurrying towards her. Stopping at Leopardstar, Mistyfoot says she'll do it. She loves her Clan, in spite of it all, and she'll help her rebuild it. Leopardstar feels joy rush through her and asks if it's true. Mistyfoot says yes, and she'll be happy to be her deputy. If they survive the battle, she'll return home.
Leopardstar mews they'll make RiverClan the Clan it always should have been, and Mistyfoot's eyes darken as she reminds her that they need to win against BloodClan first.

You're right. Not only that, but in the original, Blackfoot and the Shadowclan cats didn't take down the bonehill at all but just stood on the sidelines and watched while she did it. It's a bit of a double hit here. On the one hand she sees Blackfoot tearing down the Bonehill and can't even bring herself to help with that, but she's also more courageous in not wanting to cut and run. Overall, it does give a whitewashed impression of how yellowbellied she was.

Battle's almost here! Really not looking forward to the official death toll. This book is depressing enough as it is, though I also wouldn't be surprised if they just forgot about it and no cats died at all.

Leopardstar's point of view on Tigerstar's death and crimes: Oh boy, the Redtail inconsistency continues! Leopardstar doesn't know about it despite the fact that it's clear everyone in Riverclan knew. This begs the question of what exactly the Hell is going on with this new timeline. Was Leopardstar simply extraordinarily dull-witted and just didn't get the memo that everyone else did? Did Mistyfoot and Mudfur keep it a secret for some reason from her? When you have the original dialogue crashing right up against that retcon, oof, it's bad, it's really bad. Redtail's Debt was such a mistake.

Chapter 35: Leopardstar pauses at the edge of the river, watching ShadowClan warriors cross first to make sure they're safe. ShadowClan cats were obviously not strong swimmers, but it was the quickest way to get to the meeting place that Firestar planned. She thinks to herself that this would be the last time ShadowClan and RiverClan stood together as allies. If the battle was won, Blackfoot would lead his Clan back to the pine forest. If they lost, well then they wouldn't be fighting anymore. None of them would.
Blackfoot emerges from the water, followed by Russetfur, Littlecloud, and Runningnose, with Boulder close behind them. Mudfur is also on his way with a large bundle of herbs. Leopardstar surveys the battle patrol, all of them sleek and well-fed. She knows that whatever happens today, they would all fight with their last ounce of energy. During the last stages of preparation, no cat objected to her or second guessed her. Part of her feels she doesn't deserve it after all that's happened, but part of her still wants to be able to prove she's changed, and earn her place as a leader of RiverClan.
She yowls to RiverClan "You will stand with me today as the courageous warriors you always have been. We have traveled a difficult path together. Tigerstar persuaded us to do things no warrior should ever do. I'm sorry I didn't protect you from him. I believed he would make our Clans stronger. I believed he would make every Clan in the forest stronger. But he only ever used your loyalty and your courage and your pride to make himself more powerful."
Blackclaw whisks his tail, while Loudbelly's pelt ripples. Leopardstar continues, meowing "It is not your fault. I should have stood up to him. I should have realized what he was doing. I should have tried to stop him. I'm sorry I didn't. I let you all down, and that knowledge will stay with me, even in StarClan. But my failure has made me stronger. Never again will I believe that cruelty is the the path to strength, or that fear can lead to change worth having. If our Clans are to be better Clans, they must be good and kind and fair. That is the only true strength, and I promise I will never again forget it."
She looks to Blackfoot. "ShadowClan will be strong again. And so will RiverClan. We will rebuild our Clans and be proud once again to belong to them. They will become stronger Clans, and smarter and more just than ever before. Clans that will never be beaten by rogues like BloodClan. Today, we show Scourge what true warriors are capable of. Today, we drive cruelty and viciousness from our borders. Today...we will win!"
The warriors cheer. She stiffens as she realizes that this is the kind of Clan she's always dream of since she was a kit. She'd tried so hard to reshape it into something it wasn't. Something better and stronger, but now she knows that her Clan was always perfect. She never had to save RiverClan in the first place, only appreciate it's value. Mudfur glances up to the slope, and Leopardstar looks in the direction of his gaze, and she sees Firestar, his ginger pelt looking like flames in the forest green. She rallies her warriors, and asks if they're ready. They all yowl "ready!", and their mews rise above the swishing of the river and the chattering of birds. Her pelt bristles as she turns and leads her warriors up the slope to Firestar. Firestar dips his head to her. Mistyfoot breaks from his ranks to join up with them, falling beside Shadepelt and Vixenleap. As she joins up with Firestar, he asks if she's ready, and she agrees. Mudfur calls after her that this is her destiny, and to go save RiverClan. She looks back to him, and promises him that she will.
She thinks that when she was a naïve kit, she had believed she would save the Clan because of the potential Mudfur had seen her. Now, she realizes that she might "save" her Clan after almost destroying it. She'd been foolish and greedy; she'd aligned herself with an evil cat who only told her what she wanted to hear. She had caused so much pain and suffering, and some of her Clanmates may be lost forever. But now she recognizes that what matters most to her isn't making RiverClan more powerful. It's making sure it lives on forever. That is how she will save RiverClan.
And, as she rushes into battle alongside her Clanmates, she's certain they'll succeed.

leopardstar's thought that oakheart had killed redtail suggests that this SE keeps with the original canon. if they thought oakheart killed redtail, then they could not think redtail killed oakheart. even if they never expressly say that it was a rockfall that killed oakheart.
my guess is that leopardstar blaming TC for oakheart's death back in an earlier chapter is blaming them indirectly, just as she blamed graystripe for whiteclaw's death

I can't believe that they actually kept that mistake especially since Mothwing and Hawkfrost are younger than him. He even still looks like an apprentice. He is definitely the oldest apprentice in Clan history. Sheesh!
