And now we're seeing small glimpses of TigerClan.

Wow, so Leopardstar did the same thing with Mistyfoot and Stonefur that she did with Silverstream. Followed them out of camp and listened to them talk about their parentage. So we now know that she knew those two being half-clan before Stonefur announces it in TDH. Also, Jaggedtooth and Boulder are in RC camp.

I still can't stand Leopardstar
I understand Stonefur and think he's completely being level headed. Leopardstar is INSANELY prejudiced and is even judging Featherpaw and Stormpaw. He's right to be concerned she'll judge them too - despite how loyal they've been to both her and the clan.
And despite her promise to Silverstream.
If she's so worried, maybe she should have just sent them to Thunderclan instead of attempting to MURDER them

Chapter 30: Leopardstar glances to the camp entrance, wondering what's taking Tigerstar so long. She'd sent Blackclaw to fetch him ages ago. As she waits, she reflects that their hunting patrols had started venturing into ThunderClan territory, and brought back enough prey for them to not starve, also wondering if ThunderClan would even miss all the squirrels. It had felt liberating to ignore borders, and asks herself why she'd let scent lines decide if her Clan goes hungry or not. If ThunderClan says something, then ShadowClan will back her up. Tigerstar's plan to unite the Clans seemed more and more sensible, and surely this was the peace Crookedstar and Mudfur had longed for. She thinks that she had even suggested to Tigerstar that they lead together, as a single unified Clan. Tigerstar had seemed to like the idea, and she knows it's only a matter of time before ThunderClan and WindClan see Tigerstar's ideas.
She reflects that Piketooth, Cedarpelt, and Timberfur had settled well into the elder's den. Reedpaw, Primrosepaw, and Pikepaw are apprentices, and Skyheart is expecting kits, keeping Mosspelt company. She spots the two queens now. Skyheart is picking at a mouse that Reedtail had brought her (I think the implication here is that Skyheart and Reedtail are mates? That was an old Su Susann thing iirc), but then pushes it away. Leopardstar pads up to her and asks if she's sick, and offers to fetch Mudfur, noting that pregnancy can make her feel queasy. Skyheart mutters she's not sick, and that it's stolen prey, so it feels wrong to eat it. Leopardstar echoes the word wrong. Skyheart looks at her boldly, and says it's stolen. The two keep arguing about it until Tigerstar's voice booms from behind Leopardstar, and he snarls that it's Skyheart's duty to ensure her kits are born healthy and become true warriors.
Tigerstar hooks the mouse and dangles it in front of Skyheart, saying she should eat every bit of it, or Leopardstar might think Skyheart doesn't care about her kits. Skyheart glares at him, and snaps that she eats what she likes. Tigerstar looks at her ominously, and growls at her to eat it. Skyheart looks to Leopardstar, and asks if she's going to let him order cats around like this. Leopardstar mews she should eat it, for the good of the kits, and thinks to herself that she needs to back Tigerstar up.
Skyheart looks defiant Leopardstar repeats two more times to eat the mouse. Skyheart then leans down to take a bite, and Tigerstar growls to eat all of it. Leopardstar is uncomfortable forcing a cat to eat, but assures herself it's for the good of her kits. As Skyheart spits out the bones of the mouse, Tigerstar yanks them away, and says Leopardstar ought to let Skyheart go without prey for a few sunrises, to see how she likes going hungry. Leopardstar wonders if he's this strict with his own warriors, and tries to say that she's a queen and needs to consider her kits. Tigerstar seems to ignore her, and says that from now on, they are to save the bones of prey, as he has a plan for them.
Leopardstar wonders why he'd want to collect bones, but then jerks her muzzle to the reeds next to camp, and says she'd like to talk to him. As they sit down alone, Leopardstar mews she's taken his advice and expanded her hunting patrols to go beyond ThunderClan, and says it isn't fair for cats to starve because of a scent line. Tigerstar nods, saying borders cause hunger. Leopardstar says fewer Clans means more prey for all. Tigerstar asks if she's finally ready to shake things up, and she excitedly replies yes. He asks if she's ready to merge ShadowClan and RiverClan. Leopardstar hesitates, and asks if they'll be equals and lead together. Tigerstar smoothly mews of course, and everything will be shared fairly. Leopardstar asks if he'll share his opinions and run things by her, and he says of course, as he values her.
Leopardstar's heart races as Tigerstar bellows that a new age has begun, and once every Clan accepts peace and unity, things will be better. She lifts her muzzle proudly, and says that it's time to merge Clans into a single one. His amber eyes gleaming, he says that this Clan will be called TigerClan, after the legendary Clan of their ancestors. Leopardstar blinks at him hopefully, and mews perhaps they could be called LeopardClan. Tigerstar eyes her in annoyance, but then purrs that they'll work out the details later. He mews that they'll make a great team, he wants to meet her tomorrow at Fourtrees, and to bring her Clan, and then bounds away, leaving Leopardstar to ponder the future in the dark.
She then spots a figure shuffling in the dark, and recognizes Mudfur's scent. She asks if he was listening, feeling guilty. Mudfur's eyes are dark, and he murmurs he heard everything, asking if she knows what she's doing. She snaps of course, and life will improve for them. Mudfur pads closer and says he doesn't trust Tigerstar, and he's dangerous. Leopardstar snorts he wants peace. Mudfur sounds skeptical and asks how that's possible by joining Clans, as it'll be a challenge. Leopardstar hisses that the other Clans will see reason and how strong they are. Mudfur mews there's more to life than being strong. Leopardstar bites back anger, meowing that nothing is more important than feeding the Clan. Mudfur narrows his eyes and asks if she'll be happy following Tigerstar around. Leopardstar says they'll be equals, as Tigerstar said they would. Mudfur grunts that if Tigerstar said it, then it's the way it'll be. Leopardstar hisses to stop twisting her words, and asks if he's forgotten his vision about her saving the Clan, and he's just finding problems. He mews that joining ShadowClan won't do that. Leopardstar asks how he knows that, and he asks if she really doesn't think how odd it is that he left ThunderClan only to suddenly become leader of ShadowClan.
She says that becoming leader of ShadowClan was the only way to secure peace and to further change. Mudfur asks if she thinks things need to change. She can't believe what he's saying, and says that Tigerstar can see things need to change, and why can't he. Mudfur mews all Tigerstar can see is power. Leopardstar snarls that he never trusts anyone, not even her. He mews again that he wants to. She asks why he's questioning her, and to just let her save the Clans like she's supposed to. Mudfur looks heartbroken as he says he believed it then, but now, seeing what she's doing, he doesn't know.
Leopardstar feels her mouth go dry, and questions why he still questions her. All she's ever wanted was to make him proud of her, but all he does is doubt her and question everything she does. She growls that she's leader, not him, and she doesn't need his approval, feeling her heart crack as Mudfur looks at her. She wants him to take back his words, before she or he say something they'll both regret. But Mudfur remains silent. His eyes darken once more, and says he won't be the only one with regrets, and he loves his Clan as much as she does. As her medicine cat, he's obliged to speak to the truth of what StarClan tells him. Leopardstar widens her eyes, asking if he's threatening or undermining her. Mudfur doesn't answer, only dipping his head and going back into camp.
Later on, Leopardstar calls a Clan meeting, Mudfur's words to her last night echoing in her mind constantly. She fluffs out her fur, and announces that Mudfur must leave them for a while. Mudfur stares back as he exits his den to join the gathering, but says nothing. She meows that they've lost so many cats to greencough, including Crokedstar, and she's heard rumors about a herb that can cure anything that grows close to the mountains. Sedgecreek asks what it's called. Leopardstar says she doesn't know, but she knows Mudfur can find it. Mosspelt seems to agree, and mews that no kit need die of sickness again should it be found. Timberfur says they'll be spared future hardship. Cedarpelt asks Mudfur if he'll be travelling alone. Mudfur keeps his gaze on Leopardstar, and asks if he will.
She digs her claws into the earth, and she knows she gave him no warning that she would ask him to leave. She thinks that she needs him to go away so he'll stop questioning and doubting her. She evenly mews that he'll travel faster alone, and they can't spare warriors to go with him. Ottersplash frowns, and asks why not wait until newleaf to do it. Leopardstar mews that greencough strikes hardest in leaf-bare, which is approaching, and she hears this herb is more potent now. She thinks to herself that she knows there's no herb, and Mudfur clearly knows that too. She knows he won't argue with her, as he would have spoken by now. She thinks that with Mudfur gone, she'll be able to lead alongside Tigerstar without any other cat's interference.

Forcing a queen to eat and then taking away her prey after that is another thing added to her list of crimes
If that doesn't scream evil to her, idk what will.
Skyheart seems very honorable. Good baby

Skyheart is having kits? Then that means she had two litters. And Reedtail being her mate was first created by Su. They were the parents of Icewing, Duskfur and Pinefur. In this SE it was hinted back when they were apprentices that Skyheart had feelings Reedtail. Though Tigerstar was so cruel there forcing Skyheart to eat. I didn't like her as a kit, but I really do like Skyheart now. And sending Mudfur away? Sheesh Leopardstar!
Tigerstar already collecting for the bonehill.

And we get more hits to the Leopardstar is an awful cat counter, pulling the ol' Imposter trick of "this cat dares to not kowtow to my every whim, he's going to be temporarily exiled until he learns to behave". The only difference is that the Imposter at least was honest about what he was doing, she can't even muster up the spine to do that and instead coughs up that awful lie that he's going out to find herbs.

Also Mosspelt is still a queen here, yet Dawnflower, Feathertail and Stormfur are all apprentices already. Maybe she's a permanent queen? Or semi-permanent, at least, since we know she goes back to being a warrior eventually before having Willowkit, unless she's moved on and actually is expecting. She was listed as a queen in TDH, too.

man remember when I thought Skykit was a borderline sociopath and yet now here she is, showing strong moral fiber.
Big yikes at everything Leopard did this chapter, particularly exiling her own father for daring to question her.

I'm guessing so? They were kits when Tigerstar came to talk to her, but then when she's apprenticing the two of them, she makes note that Reedpaw, Pikepaw, and Primrosepaw are sitting with Blackclaw. I would argue that perhaps Leopardstar apprenticed all five at the same time, but the problem is she calls a meeting and then immediately makes Stormpaw and Featherpaw apprentices, completely ignoring Mistyfoot's litter aside from noticing them with their father. It's a bit confusing.

Why is everyone acting so surprised that Leopardstar acted awful while under Tigerstar's influence? Lol. I thought this was already known knowledge, this is after all before she actually developed and improved as a leader in the future.
That being said, it's enjoyable to see her character in these scenes. Nothing she's doing is justifiable, but it's nice to see things from her perspective, and her paranoia getting the best of her. To the point she's even turning on her own father, which kinda sucks since she spent most of her life trying to get his approval. On the other hand, it's also interesting to see how she molded into the character she is now due to the circumstances of RiverClan, she became easy pickings for the likes of Tigerstar, which is unfortunate. I wonder when she'll have her moment of clarity, and start to question if what she's doing is actually the right thing to do. Because even with the scene with Skyheart, she did agree that it was for the good of her kits, but at the same time she was slightly uncomfortable with forcing Skyheart to go along with Tigerstar's demands.
I also think Leopardstar is a pretty good reason why younger cats shouldn't be put into positions like deputy so quickly. Destiny or not, I do agree with her father, it was too soon, because being a young and inexperienced makes them more vulnerable and naïve. Being put on a pedestal all her life doesn't help either, and no it's not an excuse, but just an analyzation of her character so far.

As someone who hasn’t read a Warriors books in years (over 5+ years), I don’t remember a single thing about Leopardstar’s behavior from then. I think those that keep up with the books probably have more known knowledge about her versus those who don’t or have a really poor memory lol. In this case, I’d be the poor memory. I do enjoy reading the summaries of this book though. It’s nice to see her character fleshed out.

But yeah, personally I always did acknowledge that her character, especially under Tigerstar, wasn't exactly aligned "good". She did horrible things as a young leader, and as a deputy she wasn't the nicest person either, so seeing things from her perspective is quite interesting. Especially when it's not being sugarcoated like so many feared it would be. This is pretty normal Leopardstar back in the day, it's just that we have her mindset and point of view now, before she developed into a better character down the road.

I thought this was already known knowledge, this is after all before she actually developed and improved as a leader in the future. To be fair, hearing about a character's actions and actually seeing them at two completely different things. It's not that people are surprised at Leopardstar's actions, but this is the first time we're actually seeing TigerClan from an insider's perspective. The most we knew before this was that Tigerstar had collected bones to form the Bonehill and wanted to execute half-Clan cats.
Now, though? Cats are being forced to eat and will be punished if they don't, and Leopardstar has basically exiled her own father and doesn't even have the decency to explain why. And we know things will just get worse from here.
Plus, just because we already knew how bad Leopardstar was during this time doesn't make her actions any less disturbing.

You probably would have said already if they had said Reedwhisker's mentor, but I wonder if they're going to? I think it would be a pretty simple and not invasive thing to put in the books, just a brief mention of him and his littermates training with their mentors or something, or leaving the camp with their mentors. I think as the current deputy, and the only known living relative of an important character like Bluestar, it would be nice to at least know who his mentor is, since not much else is known about him besides his parents, which is more than we can say for Harestar and Kestrelflight, but this book isn't about their clan, and they don't have protagonist relatives..at least that we know of. I just hope we get to see who Reedwhisker's mentor was.

Skyheart refuses to listen to Tigerstar and he "suggests" that she doesn't eat for a few days? That's... yikes. Leopardstar is justifying this with the same old "It's for the good of the Clan." Like everyone else has said, she reminds me of Mudclaw a lot.
And I'm not gonna lie, this level of writing is surprising coming from a Kate Cary book lol.
