Before she could even make it passed them, Tori was flung backwards, spun, and pinned. All the air left her lungs, and he head bounced off the brick wall painfully. She let out a groan of pain as she tried to recover her breath, her vision dark and blurry temporarily from the impact. The only thing keeping her upright was the demon before her. When enough of her senses returned, the woman kicked out with her legs, hoping to throw her attacker away. Either she hadn't recovered enough or she just wasn't strong in general for the monster barely even budged. Still, she had to do something or the fear would engulf her completely.

Indeed, her efforts to wound him only made the demon loose a hissing laugh. "You are weak, Nephilim," he said. He leaned forward and put his nose to her hair like a lover. He inhaled deeply. "Ah, but you smell so powerful. It is too bad the Heavenly Ones fear you so. You have potential for so much evil." He leaned back and grinned broadly. For just a moment, his normal human teeth seemed to elongate into shadowy fangs. Then they vanished. "I believe we shall have a bit of a snack before bringing you before the masters. What do you think, friends?"
The other four demons hissed their agreement and immediately started moving, closing in like a pack of wolves.
Ultimately, that would be their downfall.
The two closest to the back end of the alley had hardly gone two feet before warm golden light exploded into existence behind them. The demons all screeched, the sound not at all human, and shielded their eyes. There was a metallic zing, like the sound of a sword being drawn from its sheath, and then the two demons at the back of the alley cried out again as they were cut from their human hosts.
The humans fell, unconscious but unharmed, to the ground. The demons, weakened by the sun and the golden light, didn't stand a chance as the blade was swung again, sending both back to Hell with a single swing.
It all happened within seconds, but that was all the time the remaining demons needed to recover. With a snarl, the demon holding Tori shoved her toward one of his companions. "Hold her!" he snapped, his hiss more pronounced in his fury. "I will handle the heavenspawn."
"Brave words, demon," a voice said from within the blazing golden light. There was a rustle of feathers — very large feathers — and then Renegade appeared. His wings, the source of the light, tucked neatly behind him. He still emanated light, but it wasn't as bright anymore. The look in his eyes, however, was enough to make the third demon, the one not holding Tori, back up in fear.
The first demon hissed. "I do not fear you," he growled. "You are nothing but a disgraced Guardian who can barely do his job."
Ren just smirked. "Your masters said the same thing... before I killed them."
That gave the demon pause. "You... you defeated the masters? All three of them?!"
"Yes. Would you like a demonstration on how?" Without waiting for a response, Ren's wings spread slightly and he launched himself across the length of the alley. What should have taken several seconds, he did in the blink of an eye. Still, the demon dodged the first swing of the sword. Too bad for him, he hadn't been the target.
With an inhuman scream, the demon not holding Tori slid from its possessed human. As the body slumped to the ground, Ren shoved his sword through the middle of the demon's shadowy form and sliced up. It exploded in a cloud of black dust and dissipated on the breeze.
While the first demon loosed an enraged battle cry and engaged Ren, the demon holding Tori tightened his grip fearfully. Then he started backing up slowly, dragging the girl with him. If he was lucky, his leader could distract the Guardian long enough for him to make off with the girl.

She was shaking now. Tori didn't like being this close to these creatures, and she didn't like the idea of being a snack. Her hands clawed at the one holding her, eyes blinking rapidly to both clear her vision and fight back tears. She wasn't going to show them fear, she couldn't. Despair was starting to sink in when it became clear she wasn't waking up and the demons weren't disappearing any time soon. Would this be it? Would the nightmares finally consume her?
From somewhere behind the man pinning her, a warm light appeared. Her eyes shifted towards it, but her vision hadn't returned fully. The pain in the back of her head was still agonizing. However, the voice which spoke was one she knew. Renegade. The man had somehow appeared once again when she needed help the most. Strange character as he was, right now, she didn't really care. Her struggles began anew, though they still didn't amount to much. In the end, she was tossed aside like a rag-doll to another demon. Stumbling, she tried to break away, to use the opportunity to get free and at least place herself a little closer to the man who seemed to know what he was doing. Instead, she was being dragged the opposite direction. The instinct to scream for help was strong, but the words choked her, left a bitter taste in her mouth. She could only hope that the man who suddenly appeared in the golden light knew where she was being dragged off to.

The demon holding Tori captive made it to the end of the alley. He managed to slip around the corner with her. And then he got about three feet down the street. That's when his leader's screech filled the air, followed almost immediately by the sounds of a body hitting the ground and a blade finding its mark. Hardly a second later, Renegade appeared at the mouth of the alley. The demon shuddered with fear and held on tighter to the girl, his grip almost suffocating. He made sure to keep her between him and the Guardian.
Humans had been attracted to the alley by the sounds of fighting. They stood in groups across the street, observing and whispering among themselves. They didn't understand what was going on, however, for powerful magic was at work, blocking the truth from them. And when Renegade spotted them, he froze them in time with a wave of his hand. Then he turned to face the demon.
It hissed fearfully and tightened its grip more on the girl. "S—stay back," it said. "Or I'll kill her." To prove the point, it put one hand to her throat and squeezed.
Ren didn't move. His sword, dripping with an oily black substance, remained lowered at his side. His armour was scratched, dented, and streaked with black and red. His hair was in utter disarray, and there was a long gash along the side of his neck. If it hurt, he showed no sign. He showed no emotion at all as he stared the demon down from barely six feet away. He was impossibly still, other than the occasional shift of his wings.
Renegade's stillness only served to unnerve the demon more. "You... you just stay right there, Guardian," it said. "Or she dies."

Tori kicked and flailed as best as she could even though she knew it was a hopeless fight. The grip on her was too painfully tight and it was hard to breath. Surely they couldn't be going far. How long did he expect to have to drag her? It would cause a lot of attention, which was fine for her. That just meant someone would see and maybe help her. However, she didn't have to worry about being carried too far away, for as they rounded the corner of the alley, there stood Renegade. He was a sight to behold, both in a good and bad way. Had it just been his hair that was a mess, he could have easily pulled off that sort of casual, "just rolled out of bed" look a lot of guys could pull off. Yet her eyes seemed more focused on the black and red streaks that stained his armor. She didn't want to think of how he got them.
She thought that this would be it. The demon would leave and she would be free of the illusion. That was not the case. Instead, a hand closed around her throat, sending a new wave of panic through her. She lifted a hand to try and pull her attacker's away, but it wouldn't budge. Her mouth opened in a silent plea, but whether it was for the demon to let her go or for Renegade to help, no one would ever know. It was a possible mistake because in doing so she had breathed out a lot of air that she had in her lungs. Air that she was not able to take back in. How was he just standing there? Why didn't he say anything? If he wasn't going to do anything, then why was he there?

Ren saw the panic and hopelessness in Victoria's eyes, but he still did nothing. It took every once of self-control he possessed, but he stayed perfectly still, watching and waiting for the demon to make a mistake and give Ren the opening he needed.
After several tense minutes, the demon gave one more threat of "stay or she dies" and started backing away, slowly at first, but a little faster with every foot it managed to put between itself and Ren. It was almost to the corner of the street when it made its fatal mistake.
It looked away from Renegade. Just for a heartbeat, to make sure the sidewalk around the corner was clear. But a heartbeat was all Ren needed.
He appeared directly behind the demon and swung his sword. Had it been a mortal blade, it would gave cut a long gash in the human's back. Instead, it left the human unscathed and simply ripped the demon from its host. The body instantly went limp and toppled, its weight bringing Tori down with it.
Ren hardly noticed, as he shot after the demon. It had fled the second it was free. Unfortunately for it, that still wasn't fast enough. With one last swing of his sword, Ren sent the demon back to Hell to rejoin its friends.

It's fine, considering you/Tori aren't able to do much here. :) Ren was breathing heavily — from anger, not because he was winded — as he watched the demon disintegrate. He stood there stiffly for several seconds before snapping back to his senses. He spun around, sheathed his sword, and rushed to Tori's side.
"Shit," he said quietly. "Shit, shit, shit." He knelt at her side, rolled the unconcious man off her, and checked her for a pulse. He let out a sigh of relief when he found one. "Thank Dad," he muttered.
He looked around, unsure what to do now. She was safe — for now — but he couldn't just leave her here. There was no sign of her friend in the crowd — a crowd he would have to unfreeze very soon, otherwise he would mess with the space time continuum. Should he bring her home? Or keep her with him?
A thrum ran up his spine, warning him of the presence of more demons. Ren made up his mind. He lifted Tori into his arms, spread his wings, and took to the skies.
Okay, from here, you can have Tori wake up in an unfamiliar bed, in an unfamiliar apartment, being watched over by the creepy blond guy with the sword. xD

(I don't know why, but "Thank Dad" gave me more amusement than it should've. XD)
Tori didn't know how long she had been out for. All she knew that when she finally came to, she felt the soft mattress and warm blankets around her. What had happened? Images of the fight flashed in her mind, of being dragged from the cafe, slammed into a wall, and the tight grip around her neck. Surely it was just a dream, otherwise how was she back in her bed? They were getting worse if that was the case. God, she actually felt like she was being suffocated. Maybe she should start taking her meds again like the therapist told her to do. Groaning softly, she rolled over onto her side and blinked open her eyes to check the time on her alarm clock. What she saw was not her alarm clock. It wasn't even her room.
Fully awake, the young woman bolted upright and looked around. No, this was definitely not her bedroom. It was a decent room, but she had no idea who's it was or how she got here. She searched through her mind to gain some insight. The only thing she could glean from her scattered thoughts were... Renegade. Renegade had been there at the fight. She didn't know how the man had managed to run into her for the second time while she was encountering demons, but he had been present. She also remembered that he hadn't done anything in the last moments of her consciousness. Panic rose, and she had a terrible feeling about all of it. The young woman rose from the bed, her body screaming in protest. All the bumps and bruises from being thrown into the wall could be felt, making fast movements very unpleasant.

Yeah, you'll probably see him say that a lot. xD Angel's didn't need to eat. They didn't need sleep. They didn't even have to shower if they didn't want to. So the Angels living on earth didn't technically need a place of their own. But the Archangels were thorough, and while contact between a Guarduan and their charge was to be avoided at all costs, sometimes being a part of the human's life was the easiest way to keep them safe. So every Guardian was given a human identity, one that included a permanent address, access to all the money they could need, and influence with the human authorities most couldn't get.
During his years as a Guardian, Ren had rarely used his "safe houses." To him, they acted more like a storage unit, a place for him to store his things and — yes — bathe. Just because he could be clean with the snap of his fingers didnt mean he felt clean, especially after fighting hoards of demons and ending up covered in gore.
But his current apartment was the only place he knew where Tori would be safe. Only the most powerful demons would dare come after her while she was inside a Guardian angel's own home. So that's where he had brought her, and that's where he left her while he went out to take out his frustrations on more demons.
By the time he got back, the sun was setting. He was even filthier than he had been. And, despite being immortal, he was feeling sore and tired from spending the day battling demons. He wanted a shower, a change of clothes, and a burger. (Eating was another human activity he partook in, despite not needing to.)
He landed on his balcony and immediately sensed Tori. She was awake, and freaking out. He couldn't blame her; he wouldn't be too pleased if he woke up in a strange place after being attacked by demons. He hesitated before entering the bedroom. He didn't want to scare her, but he wasn't about to sit out on his balcony just for her peace of mind either. So he decided on a compromise: he knocked lightly on the glass doors that separated the master bedroom from the balcony.

I would be highly disappointed if I didn't. XD
Tori nearly jumped out of her skin when a knock sounded on the glass behind her. Quickly, she turned and what did she find? A familiar blond-haired man outside on the balcony, covered in blood. Strangely, this was not the worst or most shocking thing she's ever seen. Still, it didn't help her current state of shock and panic any less. How did he even get out there? From what she could see, it didn't appear that the apartment was on a floor that could be accessed via climbing. At least, not unless he was willing to risk his life falling, which she had a feeling the man actually had not such qualms with.
For a good minute, she just stood there, staring at him. What was she to do? There was questions to be asked and answers to be received, but she had no idea if actually talking to this man was a good idea. Sure, he might have helped her out of a very, very bad situation, but that didn't mean anything. For all she knew, he could still be one of the nightmares using a different approach then their normal horror and terror filled one they usually used. Then again, this was more than likely his place, meaning she couldn't really keep him confined to the balcony forever. She did want to go home, and she needed him to tell her where they were. So, after a long moment of inner debate, Tori walked over to the door that lead out to the balcony, unlocking it and stepping away.

Tori didn't find his question amusing. In fact, she stood where she was, crossing her arms in front of her while he acted like nothing was amiss. To him, it probably wasn't anything strange. She didn't know what he did or how his life was spent. To her, however, she wasn't too sure how to handle this situation. She quietly observed him, taking note of his get up and weapons as each item was shed. What did he need all of this for?
Eventually, words formed into sentences into her mind, to which she had somewhat confidence in using as conversation starters. Stepping forward yet still maintaining a good distance from the man, she moved to where she would be in his field of vision. Just for added measure, she waved her hand to indicate she was trying to get his attention. Only when she was certain she had it did she sign. What the hell is going on? Not the most elaborate or elegant way to ask the question, but the most efficient.

While she came to terms with what he was, Ren made himself comfortable. He propped his hip against the dresser, crossed his feet at the ankles, and folded his arms over his chest. He watched her spell out Nephilim — although it took him a moment to put the letters together on his head — and grunted softly. "Huh. A Nephilim is what we call the children of angels. They're like demigods, only angel versions. But I don't know why the demon called you Nephilim. Angels were forbidden from reproducing with mortals centuries ago. All that remains are the descendants of those long ago Nephilim. Each new generation has less and less angelic blood, but since angel blood is powerful stuff, it takes a long time to fade. And in the meantime, that same blood acts like a siren's call to demons. Hence the Guardians. We are each assigned to a Descendant, tasked with keeping him or her alive. We fight demons, prevent deadly accidents, and otherwise keep our charge safe as much as possible. Sometimes it's super easy. Sometimes —" He gave her a pointed look. "— it's not."
