Holding back a laugh at the young tom's widely opened jaws, Flamestep nodded. "That's right," he whispered. "Good job." He stalked forward a bit further, motioning for Cedarpaw to follow, then finally came to a stop when he heard the quiet chatter of tiny teeth. "Alright, you're taking the lead on this one, Cedarpaw. Go ahead and show me what you know." With that, Flamestep ducked into the underbrush, out of the sight of his apprentice, then quickly leaped up into a nearby tree to get a bird's eye view. He settled on a low branch and peered down through the leaves.

(i........... forgot about leopardstar. my
"That sounds like a good group of cats," Leopardstar said with a smile. As they padded into camp, he noticed Ashstorm just ahead, seemingly just getting back from somewhere. "Perfect timing," he commented, flicking his tail towards the she-cat. "I'll be in my den. I need some time to think." With that, he dipped his head to Palethrush, then turned around and headed towards the safety of the leader's den. Time to figure out what I'm going to do if those cats start crossing the border, he thought with a sigh.

( that'd be lovely, thank you owlspots! also, here's a starter for anyone interested ^^ ) Ivycloud sits in the middle of camp, his tail flicking as he chews on a small mouse absentmindedly. He seems lost in thought, but his ears perk upwards as he notices Leopardstar pad into camp, possibly arriving from a patrol. That suits him just fine; he's been waiting all day for a chance to go hunting. Standing up and stretching out his limbs luxuriously, he licks his chops clean of the last of the mouse and begins heading out of camp.

Larchclaw watched the entire exchange with an air of bemusement before Stagleap's attention returned to her (as it should) and she shrugged, feigning indifference over the irate prickling in her belly. "Well, we'd best get going I suppose," she said. She turned and led Stagleap and Jaggedpaw out of camp and towards the Ancient Oak.

"The river's pretty tame where we're going," Riverfrost assured him. Truth be told, the water around Fox Tail Island was pretty deep, but the currents were neglibile - the width of the river made it slow and lazy. Even an apprentice as small as Dewpaw would be able to swim to safety if they fell from the crossing stones. (Besides, Riverfrost wasn't about to let Dewpaw drown - not in a million years - and they'd be sticking to the banks today instead of crossing to the island proper.) "A particularly tenacious kit could swim to shore - but don't tell Thistlekit," he added with a purr. "I wouldn't put it past him to try and swim the river just to see if he could, and Kestrelwind would have my pelt for planting the idea in his head."
He flicked his tail as they rounded a bend in the path. Ahead, he could just make out the babbling of the water. "Ah, we're almost there."

Cherrytail noticed Ivycloud sitting on his own and, after snatching a mouse from the fresh-kill pile, approached the tom with a friendly smile. With a quickly mumbled greeting, she settled next to the younger warrior and took a bite of her prey. Eventually, she decided to make a bit of small talk and glanced towards Ivycloud. "Fresh-kill pile's looking a bit small. I know Leopardstar just sent out a hunting patrol, but if you're up for it, how about a little hunting trip?" Her words were mumbled through a mouthful of prey and afterwards, she gulped down the remainder of her mouse. Cherrytail grinned, her eyes gleaming at the prospect of hunting. She had hunted with her apprentice earlier, but she was glad to help the clan in any way she could.

"Ah--" says Ivycloud, who had been in the middle of standing up when Cherrytail started speaking. He settles back down, curling his tail over his paws and flicking his ear as a greeting. "Yeah," he idly notes, looking at the dwindling pile. The hunting patrol had pretty much tried to fill emptiness, so it could use some more prey. "That would be nice... do the rabbit hills sound good to you?" he says quietly; he's definitely aiming to stretch his legs out, and from what he recalls Cherrytail is a fast runner. Plus, fatter prey means fatter pile! He stands up, ready to head out as soon as she was.

"Sure, sounds good!" Cherrytail chirruped, quickly rising to her paws. She had taken Flowerpaw hunting there earlier for training, but she wasn't at all opposed to returning; after all, the rabbit hills were where she was most useful. The calico began to pad towards the camp entrance, motioning for Ivycloud to follow. Admittedly, she wasn't very close or familiar with the younger tom, but she was always happy to make a new friend. As they got further from camp, Cherrytail slowed so she was walking next to Ivycloud, and turned an inquisitive eye to the young warrior. "So, Ivycloud," she started, a bit hesitant. "How are you? I know we don't really talk much, so why don't you tell me about yourself?" Cherrytail knew she was mostly to blame for not being familiar with her own clanmates since she spent most of her time with Flamestep, so she was determined to break habit.

Ivycloud nods in agreement and turns, heading out of camp just a mouses-length behind her. He stares off into the forest, absentmindedly thinking about how a rabbit tastes; he's only had them once or twice before, he's built more for hunting softly in the undergrowth. "Me?" he asks when his bubbly clanmate speaks up, a bit taken aback. His clanmates rarely talked to him- whether it be because he was hardly out of apprenticeship or because he usually let Goldengaze do the talking. "Oh, well..." he thinks for a moment. "My sister is Goldengaze! And my favorite food is fish." He shuffles a bit, not sure how to continue. Maybe this is a post-apprentice assessment. About identity. He would definitely be failing. He pushes a stray fern out of the way with his nose to clear the path. "Uh, how about you? It's really cool you have your own apprentice."

Briarheart | 35 moons | male | heterosexual | owlspots | warrior Briarheart is a large dusty-brown tom with a paler tan undercoat and yellow eyes. He is, by every definition of the term, a gentle giant; he rarely raises his voice and goes out of his way to be kind to everybody. While rather sensitive and soft-spoken, he would fight tooth and claw to defend those he loves. He adores his mate Cloudstep with every fibre of his being and considers himself the luckiest tom in the world. Briarheart was born and raised in the Clan; while he was not close to his mother or father, within a few days of his apprenticeship he grew close to Cloudstep (then Cloudpaw) and quickly formed a massive crush on the slightly older she-cat. Cloudstep is his mate, and he is about to be a father of three.
(what colours were you thinking for the kits? ^^)

Stagleap trotted after Larchclaw, careful to keep a close eye on Jaggedpaw. The younger tom's twitchy behaviour did not go unnoticed by him, and he cocked his head to one side; it was common knowledge that Jaggedpaw had a hard time concentrating, and Stagleap so far had done his best to work through that, but he was still a little worried about his apprentice. He gave the young tom a gentle nudge with his shoulder, falling into step beside him. "How are you holding up, Jaggedpaw?" he asked, keeping his voice low.

Dewpaw visibly relaxed. "That's good," he mewed, his voice still barely rising above a murmur, "I don't want to fall in." He trusted Riverfrost to not let that happen, and he was reassured by his mentor's calm aura and encouraging words. Now that his nerves had died down, a small whirl of excitement began to manifest within him, and he bounced his next few strides. "Do you think I'll catch a big fish, Riverfrost?" he asked, cocking his head up at an angle to look up at the grey tom.

Unconvinced, Stagleap frowned, but he took a step back. He would not press Jaggedpaw if the younger tom didn't want to talk about what was going on, but he knew that there was definitely something on his mind. "We're almost to the river," he mewed, as though that fact would offer Jaggedpaw some form of comfort.

(oh aw, i love him so much owlspots! what a charmer! maybe two light brown/black she cats and one marble brown/white tom? it's entirely up to you for your kit, though, i've never been very good at offspring guessing haha ^^) Cloudstep sits at the entrance of the nursery, her paws tucked under her chest and a purr rumbling from her as she soaks in the sunlight. Her tail idly twitches; she's been very content and satisfied recently, and has no reason not to be! She's expecting three kits with her wonderful mate, and she's been able to relax in the nursery for four moons. Although she is happy, she cannot quell the worming bit of anxiety on her mind that she's missing out on her opportunities to help the clan; sure, she's certainly no good at fighting, but she's heard a murmur on the wind that there have been foreign scents on the borders, and she feels like she should be out on patrol, at least performing her basic duties as a warrior. She sighs, and rests her head on her paws; having to relax is just no fun!

Briarheart was quick to spot his mate as he exited the warriors' den, having grown accustomed to her being the first he sought out every morning in order to check on her. He greeted her with a trill, raising his tail as he approached her; he noticed that she looked troubled, and the sight sent a twinge of worry through him. "Are you feeling alright, my love?" His voice was soft as he settled down beside her, his eyes betraying his concern, and he curled his tail around her. She had been resting in the nursery for so long - now that he thought about it, actually, she was likely itching to return to her warrior duties - in preparation for the birth of their kits, and he had a feeling they would be due any day now. He could hardly wait to meet them; a purr automatically escaped him at the thought of their little ones, and he ducked his head shyly.
(Okay, sounds good! ^^ As for my kit, I was thinking something like this!)

Cherrytail nodded along as she absorbed the information, then perked up at Ivycloud's question about herself. Recalling Flowerpaw's catch earlier, she puffed out her chest with pride. "Yeah, Flowerpaw's a great apprentice. I expect she'll be a fantastic warrior one day. I'm surprised Leopardstar gave me an apprentice, with me being a former kittypet and all." Her smile turned downwards as she mentioned her origins and her tail flicked irritably. Although she had been welcomed into the clan as a kit, her kittypet blood still bothered her, even if she had only lived with housefolk for five moons. Cherrytail knew she wasn't the only non-clanborn cat in the clan, but she still felt the need to prove herself to her clanmates, even if Dawnclan was an exceptionally welcoming clan. As the she-cat began to hop across the crossing rocks, she glanced over her shoulder nervously to see if Ivycloud's expression had changed. "I, uh, don't know if you knew about my kittypet blood or not. Hopefully that doesn't make you see me differently."

One of Larchclaw's ears swiveled towards the mentor-apprentice pair as they spoke in undertone - she, like many of the clan - was aware of Jaggedpaw's struggles to concentrate, but she'd never seen it in action before. She almost smiled (new knowledge was always wonderful) but as Jaggedpaw's distress became more apparent, she clamped down on it. Some things were just... improper to gossip about. At least, for the moment (she hoped it would become a juicy story by the time Jaggedpaw had his warrior name - Larchclaw wasn't above playing the long game).
"Here we are," she announced, as the sounds of the river reached her ears. She sped up - the quicker they got there, the quicker they would be finished - and sniffed along the bank until she found a suitable fishing spot.

Riverfrost grinned. "One as big as you, maybe," he mrrowed. "Although I haven't seen big fish in that area in a while - must not be the season for it." It was a bit of a shame - Riverfrost actually quite liked fish. But the smaller fish were a lot easier to catch, that was for certain. "Plenty of little ones though, and if you catch enough of those its the same as one of those massive fish the elders like to talk about."

Finchwhisker looked up as Palethrush approached. He was nearly finished with his meal and only slightly annoyed at the interruption - such was the life of a warrior, after all. "Palethrush," he greeted, sitting up. "Did you need something?" He glanced towards the leader's den as the tip of Leopardstar's tail disappeared inside, but didn't offer comment. If it was important, he would be told.

Dewpaw nodded thoughtfully. "I'd like to catch a big fish one day, when I'm stronger," he decided with a small purr, his whiskers twitching as he turned to look up at Riverfrost again, "but I suppose lots of little ones would be even better!" He enjoyed spending time with his mentor; Riverfrost was one of the few cats in the Clan who he had little trouble being himself around - Thistlekit and Kestrelwind being the others - and he was glad that his mentor was kind and patient with him.
His ears pricked and he could've sworn he picked up the sound of running water somewhere nearby. "I think I hear the river!" he exclaimed, giving a small hop of excitement. He didn't rush ahead, however, not wanting to be scolded or to get himself lost, as he'd never been out this far before.

Riverfrost's ears twitched. "So you do!" he agreed, picking up the pace a bit. They emerged from the trees onto the riverbank, revealing the wide, deep span of water between the bank and Fox Tail Island, with the current moving sluggishly.
"There's a good spot over here," Riverfrost told his apprentice, padding a few fox-lengths to the left and crouching at the edge of the water.

Dewpaw crouched beside his mentor, trying to copy the older tom's form as best he could (abysmally, of course, but at least he tried) as he settled down. He stared down into the water that passed below them and gulped seeing just how wide the river actually was. "There's no way I'd swim that!" he exclaimed in a soft voice, his eyes wide with awe.
He peered down into the depths of the river; the water was surprisingly clear, and if he squinted hard enough he could've sworn he caught glimpses of little silver fish darting beneath the surface.
