Theo felt that it seemed the Captain didn’t feel the same way now as he did when he had first become a cop. Like maybe he was unsure of his reasoning anymore. Was that the result of all of the things he had seen in his years on the force? Danton was a little worried, he didn’t want to change. He knew he would, he knew his years in the force would have an effect on him. But he didn’t want to be too different. Though he supposed some changes would be for the better. He might do fewer stupid things if that happened.
“That is very true,” Theo said with a nod “there could be more effort put into them, I suppose.”
The young man noticed the loitering male at around the same time as the captain, looking to try and get a good view of the man’s face. He was sure that this was the person they were looking for, and he gave the captain a smile.
“Yup, that’s Hart.” Theo said with a nod.
A few moments later he saw another figure walking down the street towards Hart, though he did not seem to be making eye contact with the other male yet.
“And that is Ramirez. They’re both here, and Ramirez isn’t going to stick around for too long. Which means he is going to make this exchange quickly, and we have to move quickly to make sure we catch both of them.”

The next few moments were a blur. Theo was aware of nodding at the Captain before opening the door of the car. The perps making the exchange had seen them the moment they got out of the car, and they were going to run. No matter what they wore, it was still hard for a cop not to look like a cop.
“NYPD, stay where you are!!” Theo was aware of shouting, though it didn’t feel like that was even him speaking.
But Hart was already running, and so Theo took off after him. It didn’t take too long to catch him, with Theo dropping him to the floor after a few minutes of running.
A couple of minutes later the detective returned to the car with a cuffed Hart and a smile on his face. He was one step closer to figuring out this whole thing. What if Hart was connected to a huge ring? He might not be, in fact he was probably just connected to a minor one, but how huge would that be?
He was happy to see that the Captain had Ramirez too, which was excellent. Ramirez was guaranteed to be able to give them some good names. He was connected with some big people.
“You know, if you guys didn’t keep meeting up on street corners it might actually take effort to arrest you,” Danton said as he got into the driver’s seat, looking over his shoulder at the two in the back of the car.
Theo glanced over to his captain as he started the car.
“Hart is clean, but I bet he knows something. We could get that out of him in interrogation.” he said, quietly enough that Hart wouldn’t hear them.

This part of the job always seemed to happen in slow motion, viewed as though from someone else's eyes. He guessed it was the adrenaline that did it, but that never made it seem any less surreal. The car doors flew open and the duo moved in perfect unison, both well practised.
He took off at a run, they had been spotted by their targets who had also turned on their heels, fleeing like a gazelle in the path of a lion. Through the sound of blood rushing past his ear drums he could hear Theo call out, announcing them, as though the two perps had been in any way suspicious about who they were. Hart took off in one direction, Theo thundering after him. His own target Rameriez darted down an alleyway. Dealers were like rates, the loved these dank, garbage-filled places, and they always thought they could outrun the officers who were hot on their heels.
Steely blue eyes were fixed now and his legs carried him effortlessly after the younger male. Despite his age Ryan made sure to keep himself in shape, he ran often and was surprisingly fast. This fact seemed to take Rameriez by surprise, as he realised the older male was gaining on him with unexpected speed.
Looking ahead of them was a chainlink fence, separating this alleyway from the next. Ryan could see his targets planned route, up on to the bins and over, but he wouldn't give the younger male the opportunity. As the pursued jumped Ryan was on him, grabbing his leg and causing him to stumble. With a sickening thud and a small startled yelp, the dealers face collided with the bins, smashing his nose which promptly erupted in a spray of blood.
"That serves you right." Ryan taunted, grabbing the defeated males hands and cuffing them behind his back. Once back at the car he offered rolled tissue to stop the flow of blood from his nose before stuffing Ramirez into the back of the car. Theo joined shortly after, his own perp in hand.
"Good job Danton" He praised as the younger detective joined him, adding his own criminal to the back of the car. All in all, it had been a great success, what the two would tell them, however, was yet to be seen.
"They know enough. It's a good arrest. Interrogation should give us even more." His face was still serious but it was clear that he was pleased with their work. "Let's head back to the precinct and get these guys straight into interrogation."

(Had to have a classic Peralta ‘noice’ in there. This might be short)
Theo gave a nod in response to the Captain’s praise. Although he was a show-off, he wasn’t amazing at actually dealing with praise, a trait he held in common with Detective Ruiz, but certainly not one Lexi shared. She had no problem at all with accepting praise, and in fact she seemed to actively seek it.
Theo looked over his shoulder at Ramirez and his bloody nose, having to surpress a laugh.
“Oh, noice, that’s embarrassing,” he smirked before looking at Ryan and joking “Jesus, Captain, what’d you do?”
To be fair Theo had seen Ruiz take guys down much more violently than that. If a perp was getting away she was not exactly known for being gentle in stopping them.
As the Captain spoke next, the young detective was pulling away and driving off towards the precinct. It shouldn’t take too long for them to get there, thankfully. This had been a nice, clean arrest. Well, clean metaphorically. It was literally quite messy considering the blood.
“Will do,” Danton responded
He looked over at the Captain for a second before turning his gaze back onto the road.
“We did good today. Thank you for giving me these cases back,” he said

It was common that talented detectives struggled to accept praise, he'd struggled himself at times, especially as he was only doing his job. Danton Was the same, he seemed uncomfortable with the Captain's words and quickly deflected on a new subject. That subject, however, was the bloody nose on Ryans perp. The nose itself was slightly swollen, broken perhaps. It would bruise nicely.
"Mr Ramirez needs to evaluate his distances a little better in the future, that or make sure there is something a little softer than a trash can to break his fall." There was a spark of humour in his eyes, it wasn't exactly professional to find it amusing when a con got hurt, but in his mind the man deserved it. They climbed into the car, Theo heading straight back towards the precinct.
He could feel the younger detectives fleeting glance but kept his own gaze on the road in front of them, watching the passing traffic. The thank you was a surprise, and although Ryan had not planned to with old cases from him for long he was amazed by just how effective it had been, and how easy it would be to keep him in line with the threat of doing so again.
"Just don't let me down. I trust you can handle these cases and maintain the high standard of paperwork you showed me yesterday." It wasn't a question but an expectation. He knew that Theo was capable and he wouldn't expect anything but the best from him now.
Even with the traffic, it didn't take long to make their way back to the precinct, where he summoned the assistance of some uniformed officers to escort the two crooks into holding cells.

Manning the hotline was a downside to being on administrative leave. It was one of the few things that made her actually miss being on active duty. It was mostly crazies, phoning up to talk nonsense or lonely elderlies who just wanted to chat. She was on about her twelfth call of the day, yet again nothing of any actual value to any of the open investigations.
She slammed the phone down, rubbing a hand over her temples and letting out a soft exhalation.
"Whoever decided that hotlines were a good idea should have been forced to man one for the rest of their life." She grumbled to no one in particular. She took the small lull in calls as an opportunity to eat her lunch, sparse pickings of a handful of grapes and a treasured yoghurt, the one thing she didn't sacrifice for her children packed lunches. She'd barely returned to her desk when the Captain and Theo both returned, a look of smug triumph on their features.
"I presume the stakeout went well." She said with a soft smile, which faded quickly as she noticed the dried blood on the Captain's jacket. "Is that blood? Are you ok?" Her eyes flicked between the two, clearly concerned that they had been hurt whilst making the arrests.
