Sarah smiled at the cute scene before her. “Well, it’s very nice to meet you, RJ.” Her tone was very matter of fact, like she was speaking to just another adult. “Four years old, you’re practically an adult! Do you have a job yet?”
She glanced up and briefly looked RJs mother up and down. Her initial impression was perhaps a bit off. She was definitely younger than Sarah. Maybe too young to have a four year old as well. But it seemed like it would be rude to ask someone she’d just met something so personal.
So she asked RJ instead, “And who is it you’re out playing with today?”

Bael just rolled his eyes in response. “Man, you must really love reading your dead trees. They're great for heat in a cold winter night if you can get a fire going. You can live without a book or two.” He couldn't understand why some people would be so interested in books. It's not like they were real.
Bael gritted his teeth “I can read. I didn't go to school for a decent portion of my life just to be told that I can't read.” He hated how the school he went to would just make him read a dumb book that he didn't care about and assumed he could write something about it. The worst parts were when he was told to compare himself to the main character. First, he'd never end up reading the books because he didn't feel like it, and second, he never could think of any common ground.
It's was a pretty good mirror to his academic activities. He didn't care about what he got exactly, but by the reactions of his teachers and _____, he knew he pretty much failed everything. He never did the work, half because he didn't care. The other half was because he could barely see. At the time, he didn't have his sunglasses to help him, so he was just stuck in a bright room, trying to figure out what the teacher was supposed to be doing.
“You're the one who asked” Bael snorted “I don't care if there's a difference, if I see it walking around, then I might believe it.” He managed to see the hardware store, giving him a sense of relief. He wasn't sure if he was going to be able to buy something to get rid of his rat problem, but it was better for him to check and see.

He nodded when she asked him to give her a moment, watching as she gave her money to the cashier and then turned back to talk to him
“That’d be nice,” Josh responded to her suggestion
Either way he’d be getting her number, but why on earth would he pass up an opportunity to spend some time with her? His work wasn’t too busy that day and so he could largely do what he liked as long as he kept on track.
This girl was really nice, and Josh feared how he should negotiate this whole thing about his job. Should he just be open and honest about it? Shouldnhe tell her now to get the issue out there? Should he only tell her if she asked? Should he outright lie about it?
And then she repeated what he had said about it being nice to talk to someone not crazy and dangerous, and he was forced to think about the issue. Was he crazy? God, he hoped not, but it was debatable. Was he dangerous? Well, he himself wasn’t dangerous, but his work was and he was a dangerous person to be associated with for that reason. He would have to be very careful that he kept Adelaide out of danger if he could.
Did that mean lying about his work?
“Oh, definitely,” he said as he stepped forward to the till and gave his things to the cashier “the families are crazy. The Fellings, the Pynes. It’s nice that you don’t seem to be involved in their little games.”
He was, but that didn’t mean he thought his choices in becoming a firearms dealer had been that great. He had thought himself safer there, and maybe he was. But he didn’t think that Adelaide was in the same situation.
After he had paid for his things and grabbed his stuff, he turned to Adelaide.
“Alright, so let’s go. We could take a walk or whatever you want to do.” Josh suggested Was she involved with the Pynes? Well, she grew up with Vivienne and her father was Second in Command of the Vulture's, but her mother made sure to get her out of that life when some idiots decided to try and get the upper hand on her father while she was with him. It's the reason she has a scar on her neck, but she never blamed her father for that. Adelaide hadn't heard from the Pyne's in such a long time, and she's surprised that Gardrel has yet to contact her, but then again she has been sort of avoiding them. Personally, she'd say that she wasn't involved with that family, but they were on pretty close terms once upon a time. She smiled and watched as he paid for his things. "I try not to, at least. I think it's hard not to be involved in some way with those families. They've been around for too long. But, you're right. I at least try not to get involved with their violence, it's not something I'm interested in." Adelaide said with a small sigh, stepping away from the counter and starting to walk out of the store, glancing back at Josh to make sure he's following her. "A walk sounds nice, that's actually why I came out of my house in the first place." Adelaide gives a little chuckle, now standing at the door and holding it open for him. "I hope I'm not keeping you from anything."

The little girl shook her head. "No,no no. Gwown-ups have jobs. When I'm a gwown-up I'm gonna be a pwincess-dinosaur-pwesident."
Lissy raised a eyebrow. This was a new job idea. Last time it had been princess astronaut. What it was to be four years old with the world wide open to you.
RJ smiled when Sarah asked who she was playing with. "You!" she gleefully announced, looking at Sarah. "And Momma." She hugged the young looking woman.

(Hello people finally on. This might not be the best place to ask since its a cat forum but anyone know where one could find like two or three dnd players? my dm is having trouble finding some for their campaign)
Roshati rolled her eyes when Bael spoke of using books for kindling and focused instead on his next words. "I never said you couldn't read, I meant you can't read my journals. I don't let people look at them. Why would you think I would insinuate such a thing?" She wrote more stuff down and frowned as she started to doodle a bit in the corner of a page. She didn't understand how something as simple as her saying Bael can't read her journals made him think she meant he can't read at all. This was why she preferred to read and observe over interacting with people. Books understood better than than people, books never left, books were always constant. She paused in her doodles and frowned as she added more to her notes.
"It's not about belief, it's about the discussion," Roshati commented. "At least, in my opinion that is the point." She looked around, noticing the hardware store, and wondered if that’s where Bael was headed. She wondered if Bael would go with her to the bookstore but didn’t feel like asking, shyness and her lack of social skills keeping the words down. She tripped slightly on her torn up laces and fumbled with her journal before she simply closed it. Putting it away, Roshati put her pencil into her pocket and sped up to walk next to Bael for the first time. “So, you don’t like books, what interests do you have?”

Juliette -- 26 -- Female ~ Yokai -- Neutral ~ Juliette is rather imposing at first glance. She's tall, 5'11", with a wide and well-muscled frame. However, that's not exactly the frightening part. Juliette carries herself with an air of absolute, oppressive confidence, with a tenseness like a snake ready to strike. Except all the time. Her skin is ever so lightly tanned from extensive periods of sun exposure, although it is naturally excruciatingly pale. Her eyes are a piercing pale grey. Juliette's hair cuts short just before her shoulders with dark brown, loose curls. But by the far the most noticeable aspect of her features are the numerous amount of scars. Not just small things from cuts or bullet wounds. The girl is positively covered in them, many unusually large, lining her body. On her face, major scarring has ruined the larger part of the left side of her face. ~ Juliette comes off very curiously, portraying a face of aloof sarcasm, yet it always feels dangerous. She's strikingly dispassionate, her face almost devoid of emotion unless a direct reaction to something or while speaking. Stoic, but on steroids. The sarcasm, however, appears to be honest, even if nothing else does. Juliette is quite witty, and finds her own jokes to be positively hysterical even when they're not. It seems that no topic is off limits to her, finding death to be a punchline more than anything else. She's very good at manipulating others, or getting them to hate her. To say she likes social graces is an understatement. She's clearly bitter towards existence, but this comes off as a dangerous apathetic attitude towards everything, even her own safety. It seems that what few moments of sincerity exist for her, appear only to those she is very close to. ~ Juliette rarely speaks of her past beyond a few simple details: she grew up rich and she's Japanese and French but spent much of her life in Japan. Outside of these facts, Juliette is a mystery. Not only does she refuse to speak of any past, it's almost as if she doesn't have one. Like she's confused by it, herself. There are, of course, a few hints. Namely the scarring across her body, her extensive knowledge of languages and the skill of an expert marksman. She's new on the block and Sarah's roommate. ~ robopocalypse ~

Bael glanced back at her, somewhat surprised and embarrassed that he misunderstood what she was saying, but he chose not to express it. “People tend to make assumptions, okay?” He grunted, making sure his hands were buried deep in his pockets. He got annoyed over nothing, which annoyed him even more.
He snorted at her talk about discussion, but chose not to respond. He figured it wasn't worth trying to understand what people would talk about with Cryptids. “They probably talked about it being real or some crap” he muttered under his breath. To him, when it came to giant monsters hiding from plain sight, if he hadn't seen it, then it wasn't real. If it wasn't real, what was the point in talking about it?
When Roshati asked him another question, he let out a noticeable groan “What is this, and interview? That is none of your damn business.” He didn't get why she wanted to know so much about him. There's no way she was actually interested in what he did. In his mind, it was more like she was trying to get something from him. What it was, he didn't know. He dropped whatever he was thinking about when he finally reached the hardware store. He quickly stepped inside and started looking around.

Sarah raised an eyebrow, feigning a look of astonishment, "Princess Dinosaur President? That's a lot of work, young lady! I'm very impressed!" She didn't remember being four all that well, but if she was anything like this kid, it must've been a wild time.
And at least she'd been right about the woman being RJ's mother. Made it a little easier then, she was never a fan of guesswork. She turned her attention to the mother and offered a handshake and a smile, "Sarah. Just moved here a few weeks ago."

{ robopocalypse I got a Vulture free! infernalfey I've mostly played 1st edition but I played a bit of 5e this summer. It was fun, I just don't recommend playing as a warlock without access to the rules or spells.} Little RJ solemnly nodded, the curls in her pigtails bouncing as she did so. The little girl could definitely be a handful, as evidenced by the dark circles under Lissy's eyes. "Hi, I'm Lissy!" the young woman introduced herself, handing RJ the bouncy ball so that she could shake Sarah's hand. "And you've already met RJ." Lissy glanced back to her daughter with smile. "Welcome to Brook Street!"

"Thanks, that's probably the first time anyone's actually welcomed me here." She let out an awkward laugh, hand rising to rub the back of her head, "It's certainly... unusual." More than a hole, but it seemed rude to say that directly to this woman's face, after she was being so nice.
Still, Brook Street would not have been her first choice. Why hadn't she gotten involved with one of the crime operations that worked out of the rich part of town? There had to be crime operations in the rich part of town, after all, it was where all the money was. Still, she was here. Might as well make the best of it.

He dropped whatever he was thinking about when he finally reached the hardware store. He quickly stepped inside and started looking around. "True, true," Roshati replied as she looked around. "Assumptions are the worst, one of the things I hate most about interacting with people." She disliked many things about human interaction, but assumptions, believing people didn't change, and first impressions were the worst. Everyone in her family assumed she would go to college at some point, pick up where she left off before Callie died. They assumed she was still the curious mind who would ramble endlessly over the things she had learned rather than the closed off person she currently was. First impressions were the worst in her opinion, observing several instances where it messed things up significantly for people. The process of how people interact was flawed in her opinion which was why she enjoyed books, in fiction the characters where laid out and it was a given they would change and evolve just like people do in real life. "No, just curious," Roshati replied as she looked at him again. "I will stop asking questions if you want." She stopped as Bael went into the hardware store and wondered if she should just leave or keep following. She was curious, but she felt like she was already being an annoyance. She glanced at how much money she had and considered looking just in case she needed something. If anything she could make notes on something. Her mind changed, a pain spreading through her chest as she grew anxious, and she stayed outside, walking a little past the door to lean against the wall to write in her journal.

"Oh, don't get me wrong. This place is really shitty sometimes." replied Lissy matter of factly. She set RJ down. If the kid was awake she knew how to walk. "Very few people choose to live here." The young blonde stressed the word choice. Brook Street wasn't somewhere you came because you wanted. For most, it was their last resort.
The young mother smiled wryly. "But we all ended up here despite that. No use complaining about. Besides, you can't deny that the rent is cheap af." You got what you paid for on Brook Street. But when you were paying that little you couldn't afford to be picky.
It was rather disheartening that Lissy could barely even afford living on Brook Street. She needed to be working more hours but RJ also needed someone to look after her, and childcare was expensive. Lissy was mostly limited to working while she went to the community preschool. Lissy was terrified of the inevitable day one of them would get sick.
