Smokestar purred and licked Blossomwish’s head, he rested his on top of her’s as he watched the deer. “I’d like kits.” He muttered as he saw the fawn pressing against its Mother. “I know what everyone says about me in the clan but it’s not for carrying on my bloodline. I’m not some tyrant.” He said with a soft humorous voice.

Blossomwish’s heart beat faster. Kits! Something that had only been a dream until she became mates with Smokestar. She continued to watch the doe and dawn, eating together peacefully. “Me too,” she murmured, purring softly. “And I know. I believe you, honest. They’re all just.. jealous.” She ended with an amused purr. “I wonder what they would all look like.”

“Jealous?” Smokestar laughed a little, he looked at the deer. “They’d probably have curly fur like me...some might be grey or like you...maybe one will have your eyes?” He purred and stared at her uniquely colored eyes.

“They sound about right,” Blossomwish purred, growing hot under her mate’s gaze. She looked away, feeling embarrassed, and caught the gaze of the mother deer. She had finally noticed them. Blossomwish froze, then whispered, “She sees us.”

Smokestar knew deers, especially the bucks, were protective with their young. He wrapped his tail around Blossomwish, “As long as we don’t provoke her.” He noticed that it was just the female. He lowered his head a little and watched as the deer continued grazing. It seemed to be finishing up too.

Spiderpaw sneezed and shivered, “Y-yeah...just slipped. It was my fault.” He gave a kind smile, he looked so pitiful as he was soaked to the bone with small cuts on his paws. Leopardtail devoured the fish by a patch of tall grass that hooked over, giving him shade. Unlike his apprentice, he was nice and dry. Mothpaw nodded though frowned at the thought of her brother, “Yeah, he will.” She remembered then how strangely cold he’d been acting since he became leader, “Does Smokestar seem ok to you? He wasn’t like this...before.” Deep down she wanted to tell Doestep what happened the night Dewstar died but she decided not to drag her into her problems. She stared down at the snake and poked it boredly. Doestep took note of Mothpaw's rapid demeanor change, noticing the thin frown that formed on her apprentice's face. Sighing, the she-cat's face knitted together as she thought of a respondance. Doestep's recalled her memories of Smokeburr, a confident warrior with an workaholic streak. Since the flood, he seemed different, seemed shaken, seemed afraid. He no longer had his trademark smirk or held an air of confidence. Pawing at the water, the wheels in her head continued to spin as she begun to carefully choose her words. Hesitating for a moment, Doestep began to speak frankly. "To be honest, I don't think he is ok. He is so much different from how he was when I was an apprentice. Smokestar used to be so full of life and energy. It always looked like he could take on the whole world with one paw tied behind his back. It's funny actually." The she-cat paused, looking at the carefree clouds swimming slowly in the light blue canvas above. The she-cat let out a long sigh before continuing. "Even though he wasn't my mentor, he was still a huge inspiration for me when I was a kit. I used to call him Smokeburr the mighty. He was my idol that never seemed to be unbreakable or shaken by even the worst situations. But, since the accident, he is completely different from the tom I remember in my kithood. Mothpaw, he fell. He fell hard." Doestep paused for a moment, looking at her paws. "Since I became a warrior, I hear what others say about him. The other warriors drag his name through the mud and blame him for the death of Dewstar. And, I think Smokestar knows that. As I said before, he crashed hard and I learned that his not perfect. He's broken." The words straggled out a prison of teeth and hidden thoughts. Her amber eyes were locked onto pool of water before tapping the surface with a single paw. The crystalline water shattered underneath the simple touch of her paw, crashing into ripples towards the edge of the rocks. "He's shattered Mothpaw and I don't know how much longer he can pretend to be fine. At this point, its just a matter of time."

Mothpaw was silenced with shock as she’d never seen Doestep act so calm. She knew deep down part of what she said was true but she recalled the night when Dewstar died. Her brother had locks of Dewstar’s bloody fur stuck within his claws. He’d said it was him trying to keep Dewstar back from entering the dam. But she always wondered if he attacked her or pushed her into the dam. And that was after the flood, before, he was a hardworking and stressed warrior. He would have been the perfect leader but deep down, she feels that he is...’maybe broken is the right word.’ Mothpaw thought. It was the last part of Doestep’s speech that made Mothpaw, “How long do you think he can pretend? It’s been over ten moons...maybe Blossomwish is keeping him from his breaking point...” She looked down at a large frog sitting in the middle of the pool with little tadpoles poking at its side. Mothpaw didn’t want to imagine her brother finally losing his cool, what kind of cat would he become? She opened her mouth to say more but was thrown off as there was a large splash. The frog had eaten up most of the tadpoles.

“Ok,” Blossomwish murmured, scooting closer to the LaPerm tom. They sat in silence for a while, watching the deer as they grazed. The sun was casting shadows around them as it set, remaining light flickering through the trees and undergrowth around. Crickets began to sing their night song and fireflies started to appear in the air. The deer were beginning to move on, having forgotten the cats and were retreating into the woods for the night. The air smelled sweet, due to all of the flowers around and the dew hanging off of the plants. The setting was serene - but not long lasting. If they stayed any longer, nocturnal predators would start to appear. Blossomwish sighed contently, glad to be feeling better and being with her mate.

Smokestar leaned against Blossomwish until at the deer had gone. Even then, he still sat beside her as fireflies and crickets began to come out. Smokestar eyed a firefly that’d landed on his tail. “Firekit?” He said giving a name suggest, “Deerkit would be a nice name too.” He muttered as he brushed the insect away. He looked up at the sky that had become a gradient of orange to a dark violet. ‘It’s getting late.’ He thought and turned to Blossomwish, he still wanted Peachfeather to check her before it was night. “We should go...” he purred.

(( I have an idea to really really push Smokestar to the edge. Do you guys wanna hear? ))
Doestep gazed past the gnarled willow trees and towering wild grasses towards a long oak tree visibly damaged from the seasons. She took note of the myriad of thin, long cuts scarred its rough bark. The tree seemed impenetrable before the storm but appeared to be close to falling over at any minute. How could something so powerful seem to be conquered by the surround elements? Shaking herself out of her trance, Doestep responded slowly,"Sometimes, cats will lie to everyone and even themselves to the point where they will believe it themselves. They will pretend everything is ok when really it isn't. I don't think its long before Smokestar finally breaks. I don't know if Blossomwish is keeping him together but I feel something bad will happen to the clan...and he will just...go over the edge."

(Yeeeeah) “I’ve heard stories of far off clans where leaders lost their minds...” Mothpaw said, she didn’t want to imagine the living nightmare her brother would create., “I think he did it.” She muttered coldly and walked off, leaving the snake.

Blossomwish ;;
“Those are wonderful names,” the calico purred, nuzzling Smokestar’s cheek affectionately. She followed his gaze towards the sky, gazing at the beautiful hues the setting sun left behind. “Ok,” Blossomwish agreed quietly, tearing her eyes away from above. She stood, sudden fatigue gripping her body. The she-cat yawned heavily, shaking her head afterwards. Her stomach was beginning to ache again. She touched her nose to Smokestar’s with a small purr, then hopped up onto the log. Blossomwish hurried across, happy to be heading home.
Sparrowpaw ;;
Sparrowpaw, having forgotten the strange sound in the woods, glanced up at the sky and realized that night would soon be upon them. He tasted the air, scenting for Mothpaw and Doestep, then hurried in their direction. The scent led the apprentice to the water, where he found the two sitting by it and talking. They looked quite deep in thought, which surprised the young tom. “Er, it’s getting late,” Sparrowpaw called, careful not to get too close.
Peachfeather ;;
“Well, it seems like Creampaw isn’t coming,” Peachfeather grumbled, heading towards the back of her cave. “I’ll get it myself.” The medicine cat retrieved her needed herbs and brought them back over, beginning to prepare the stuff. Once finished, she laid the marigold paste on his cuts on his paws and a few on his pelt.

Smokestar crossed the log with Blossomwish and patrolled a little bit, he remarked a few trees before he said they could head back to camp. He nuzzled his mate, “You should see Peachfeather about that thorn.” Though he really hoped that Peachfeather would spot what was wrong with his mate’s current health. He led her back to camp.
“Thank you.” Spiderpaw muttered. He gave a weak smile, he was such a tall cat yet he looked so small and pitiful.

(( *laughs evily* Ok guys. So, I'm thinking this. Blossom gets caught in a fox trap and almost dies. Doestep has her tail chopped off while hunting from a gator. Mothpaw gets servery injured defending her mentor.))
"You really messed up this time...Starclan. You are so worthless." A dark storm self-destructive thoughts rolled into her brain. The words thundered throughout her skull, reverberating the mantra in a endless viscous cycle. "You. aren't good. enough." As Mothpaw coldly padded towards Sparrowpaw, tears threatened to crinkle the corner of her eyes. "Starclan! You should have kept your mouth shut instead of ruining everything like you always do, you fox-hearted snake". For the briefest instance, the mask she spent moons to construct shattered underneath the pressure of her feelings and self-hatred. Thin marks from Doestep's unsheathed claws marred the wet underneath her, creating rivulets flowing from the pool.
Blood pounded throughout her ears and circulated back into her rapidly beating heart. Getting from her spot, Doestep's paws shook underneath her as she padded towards the apprentices. Her vision disfigured, as if she were looking through a fish-eye lens. Muttering underneath her breath, she repeated quietly the same phrase,"Oh Starclan. Oh Starclan. Oh starclan. I made it worse". Her amber eyes focused on the ground, looking at the soft leaves underneath her paw. She had to get away. She was stranded, trapped, grounded. Quietly following behind Mothpaw and Sparrowpaw, her brain kept screaming run.

Blossomwish ;;The calico rolled her eyes but they were glittering with amusement. “Whatever you say, Smokestar,” she teased, licking his cheek in return. Though on the inside she wanted to ask Peachfeather about the way she was feeling. Blossomwish has never been a worrier, but she’d never felt this way before. She was anxious she’d come down with a sickness. The Clan didn’t need to deal with anything like that at the moment. She hopped over a log blocking the path, nearly tripping over her own paws. She grew hot; the calico was never this clumsy. Peachfeather ;;“My pleasure,” the medicine cat purred, not missing the guarded look in the apprentice’s eyes. She felt a pang of concern, glancing outside. She noticed Spiderpaw’s mentor, Leopardtail, enjoying a fish not too far off. “Was Leopardtail around when you fell?” Peachfeather asked slowly, still looking at the dappled tom.

Smokestar pressed against his mate with worry as he helped her back to camp. He licked her head, telling her to go to Peachfeather. He then went to the pile to talk with Leopardtail.
Spiderpaw was quiet before he spoke softly, “He said I need to learn how to do things on my own...and he's right...right?" He was too used to the warrior leaving him behind and beat him up.

Spiderpaw was quiet before he spoke softly, “He said I need to learn how to do things on my own...and he's right...right?" He was too used to the warrior leaving him behind and beat him up. Blossomwish ;;
The she-cat nodded obediently, pausing to watch Smokestar pad off towards Leopardtail. Blossomwish felt a pang; she never trusted the dappled tom. She’d often pointed out how badly he treats Spiderpaw to her mate, but each time he would brush it off. The calico sighed and headed towards the medicine den. As she poked her head in, she noticed Peachfeather tending to Spiderpaw. How ironic. Blossomwish narrowed her eyes, wheels in her brain turning as she analyzed the situation. The lanky apprentice looked sodden and shaken up, also seeming to have scratches on his paws and pelt. Blossomwish frowned and walked inside. “Hi Peachfeather, Spiderpaw. What happened here?”
Peachfeather ;;
The medicine cat frowned at Spiderpaw. Unease rippled through her pelt at the apprentice’s words. “No, that isn’t right..” Peachfeather looked up at the sound of her name, spotting Blossomwish at the entrance of her den. Her amber gaze brightened a little and she welcomed the calico. She looked at Spiderpaw, gaze faultering a bit, before looking back at Blossomwish. “Oh, he fell in the river,” Peachfeather meowed breezily, not wanting to worry the she-cat. “What brings you here?” Blossomwish told her first about her paw and then how she has been feeling. Peachfeather checked the she-cat’s paw and examined it, telling her that it should be fine but she’ll put some marigold on it. Now, when it came to how the calico was feeling.. the medicine cat had a few ideas. “Let me feel your side,” Peachfeather instructed. Blossomwish obeyed and Peachfeather felt the she-cat’s side. Eyes narrowed in concentration, Peachfeather came up with her resolution. “Well, Blossomwish, it seems to me that you..” Peachfeather let the anticipation rise. “..are pregnant.”
