The Plot:
I'm thinking the world is a wasteland at this point. There are settlements set up all over, but space within them is tight and everything is very well monitored and very dictatorship like. We could have a pair of characters (friends, siblings, co-workers, enemies, etc) that are falsely accused of a crime and kicked out of their settlement. Because of growing up in the safety of their settlement, they don't know how to survive the outside world and go on a journey to find some rare tool or part that their city needs to keep running to try and earn their way back in. I'm thinking we can add in maybe a character each that they meet along the way? Maybe a mercenary that agrees to protect them or some kind of oddball conspiracy theorist that thinks this is all a social experiment. Idk those are the first things that came to mind. And there'd be lots of journeying and adventuring in here and I wanted to keep it open-ended because they could end up going back home or finding a new settlement or a group living in the outside world or just kind of living out there by themselves. The World: TOWNS The Hub -- The Hub is one of the largest settlements in the area with about 500 citizens and many more visitors. The Hub seems to have everything besides a manufacturing and engineering sector. Despite Sprocket City breaking away, the two settlements still work together. The Hub has an armory and blacksmith (and trains guards to hire out to other settlements), one of the best clinics in the area (and takes in many outside patients), a school for all ages (though this is one of the few places where children are able to finish their education instead of being pulled out of school at age 10 to work), their own farm and livestock, many small shops, and the most supplies. Kingston County - Kingston County, KC to the locals, is a rather small settlement in the middle of nowhere where people seem to have returned to the Wild West. There isn't much technological advancement here, but farming is big. They export almost as much food as the Hub, as well as live animals. They use horses to deliver their own exports. Run by Sheriff Lionel. Blackridge - Blackridge is a larger settlement divided into two sectors. Very dictatorial. Ailmore is the poor sector, dying of starvation and sickness. Morton is rich. Blackridge is somewhat self sufficient, though they occasionally attack KC traders for food and items. Run by King Leonidas Libertyville - Libertyville is a small city run by a total democracy. The people here advocate for freedom, and have been known to raid other settlements as well as working with citizens of other settlements to take down corrupt leaders. Hennessy Island - A small island off the coast, Hennessy is known for fishing and logging. They export seafood and wood. There is no set leader of Hennessy, but everyone seems to work together. The general population is welcoming. Oakland - Oakland is a seemingly harmless settlement, but there is no leadership. Unlike Hennessy, there's a bigger focus on personal justice and revenge. It is totally acceptable to punish others how you see fit, and it's really a dangerous place to tread. New Kent - New Kent is a small settlement focused on the arts. Any musician or artist comes from New Kent. They don't provide any necessities, but are well appreciated for their talents. Still don't have a good name - It was built into the side of a mountain and is very well fortified and self sufficient. While being relatively closed off, it is welcoming to outsiders. This is all fake, however, and any travelers will be brought in and jailed, scheduled to fight others to the death in the arena for the entertainment of citizens (I don't have a good name but thought this would be a really fun side plot) OTHER The Trading Post - A small camp in the middle of nowhere, the Trading Post provides carts, horses, and traders to do business between settlements. Very well guarded by the Hub's finest guards Henderson Memorial Hospital - Almost untouched since the bombs fell, this hospital is rumored to be filled with new medical supplies. However, it's guarded by men in black armor that never shows their faces. Nobody has ever managed to make it past them. The Marsh - The Marsh is actually a small lake with an abandoned cabin on it. It is known as (surprisingly) one of the places with the most radiation. Many avoid this as much as possible. Oak's Canyon - A large canyon with caves, mines, and an extensive tunnel system. Oak's Canyon is rumored to hold Oak's Treasure, an amazing an invaluable treasure that would make the finder one of the richest men in the world. Read more: wcrpforums.com/conversation/19684?page=3#ixzz5GkMDv1TIThe Characters:
Kira Waylon - 25 - Female Kira is a woman of average height, about 5'6. Her body is muscled from years of doing physical labor in Sprocket City and she's got multiple scars from accidents at work. Her hair is blonde and cut short. It's a job she does herself to save money, so it's never cut quite perfectly. Her eyes are bright blue and her skin is pale, but it isn't odd to see oil or grease staining her skin and clothes. Kira dresses simply in steel toe boots, stained jeans, and an unbuttoned flannel over a sleeveless white shirt. When working, she takes the flannel off to prevent it from getting caught in a machine. Kira has always been interested in machines, working with her father in their little apartment before she was old enough to officially work in their city. She had a boyfriend named Casper, but he died in a work accident when the couple was 18. Her father died a few years later of sickness when they were unable to get him to the Hub in time. Casper and Kira had a son (Kayden) when they were 17, and Kira's been raising him as she rose in the ranks of work. Her only living family is Kayden, a sick mother, and a brother that's disliked around the settlement because he spends all his time smoking and drinking.
Charlie Isaac Webb (Charles) Male, 22 Skilled at: Electronics, Engineering, and Using Small Arms Terrible at: Hand-to-hand combat, Medical Aid, and Directions Appearance: Dirty blonde hair pulled back behind his ears but hardly longer than that. Piercing blue eyes, a 5 o'clock shadow as well as a near constant grin that is only broken during anger. Charlie has slightly tanned skin and muscles that have been honed while engineering. For clothing, Charlie usually wears t-shirts or button-ups and jeans. You will never see him without a gun, electronics, or a plan.

Kira stood in front of Randall, watching as their leader paced in front of her. "Now, Ms. Waylon, tell me something. Did the extra food packets go missing when you were in charge?" he asked, his voice booming throughout the small room. She could see sympathetic glances from other workers as they tried to pretend they weren't watching the trial. Silence for just a moment. "They did," Kira said, using all her strength to keep her voice from cracking. Yes, ten food packets had gone missing when she'd been scheduled to supervise the intake of food packets from the traders. She didn't have anything to do with it. She had double, triple checked that all food packets were present when she closed up shop for the night. "Were you and your coworker the last ones to leave for the night?" he asked. Randall's eyes were locked on Kira's face as she shifted her weight, hesitating again at the answer. Her eyes roamed the room, glancing at the council members, the people that would never be her coworkers now. "Yes, Charlie and I reviewed everything together and then left. I locked the door behind us," she replied, her voice still strong. "Then why were the packets missing? My councilmen, I hope you see that there's only one answer to this. Kira Waylon, with the aid of a coworker, has been stealing precious resources." There was mumbling and writing as the council members recorded the events. Though she had already known the outcome of this unfair trial, Kira could feel herself fighting back tears. "For your punishment, you will be exiled. There is no return to Sprocket City for criminals such as yourself. Since you have no family fit to parent a child, Kayden Waylon will be raised by a loyal family of my choosing. You are not to return to your room, not to talk to anyone, and never to return." Randall's voice was firm. Kira couldn't find anything to say as two guards grabbed her by the arms, leading her out of the small courtroom, past the workers and the apartments. She could see Kayden's sweet face pressed against the window as he watched the guards drag his only living parent out towards the wasteland. She didn't speak, wanting to take this punishment with as much dignity as possible. Even when the large door slammed in her face, she took a seat on a large rock and waited to see the outcome of Charlie's trial. Would he be found innocent? Or would he join her out here in the dangerous world? (Ugh sorry it sucks so much. It's been a really really long weekend) ThePyromancer

It seemed to take forever for her coworker to finish up his trial, and Kira couldn't wait to see what his fate would be. He better end up out here with her. After all, the missing food was so his fault. He and Kira were the last ones out of the supply room and she hadn't stolen the food packets. It had to be him. And if he got to live in the safety of their home while she was pulled away from her sick mother and young son, she would not be a happy woman. When the doors finally open, she stood up and lunged for the safety of where she'd grown up, but a gun was pointed at her and she stood back, hands raised in the air. Then Charles was thrown out, and he doors were closed behind him. It was the two of them on their own now, and Kira knew that being stuck out here was bad. But literally anyone else would be better than being stuck with her coworker. She moved closer and slapped him across the face, her eyes narrowed. "I can't believe you're such an idiot," she said, shaking her head. "You just had to drag me down with you because you can't do your job. You're the most incompetent and selfish man I've ever worked with," she growled. Yes, Kira may be a bit harsh with her words, but it was justifiable in her mind. After all, it was all because of him that she could never see her mother or her son or even her stupid brother. They didn't have room for a cemetery in the town, but each dead person got a plaque on the wall. She'd never be able to see her father's or Casper's again. She'd never get to do the work that she loved, and she'd likely die out here - hungery and alone. It was all his fault. ThePyromancer

"Of course you dragged me down!" Kira growled, glaring at him. Then he accused her of stealing the food packets, and she had to restrain herself from lunging at him. Kira knew she could handle herself in a fight, especially with him already being beat by the guards, but even she wasn't stupid enough to attack him right now. "Wow. You are absolutely ridiculous. I can't believe you. You knew that I was going to be promoted, so you accused me of stealing food? You know I have people that rely on me, right? People that are going to be crushed that I'm gone? But all you can think of is yourself," she hissed. She was still dressed in her normal clothes for the day, and she wanted to go find some new clothes as soon as they found somewhere to go. She didn't want to be reminded on the home she was leaving behind. How much better life would be if she had never been assigned to share a shift with such a big idiot. "I hope you kept some of those food packets you stole so we don't starve to death out here," she grumbled. With the sun already beating down hard, she wiped some sweat from her forehead and tied her flannel shirt around her waist, leaving her in only a sleeveless white shirt. She rolled her eyes at his little outburst and took a few steps out into the heat. Oh boy, they didn't even have any water. At least the Hub wasn't too long of a walk. "You can sit out here and sulk as long as you want, but I'm actually going to try and save my life," she muttered. She knew she couldn't stay at the Hub, but maybe she could get some low level job - enough to give her some money. They took in travelers all the time. She could restock on whatever she needed. Food, clothes, water. Then she'd head out. Once the desperation and shock of the situation wore off, she remembered something she'd caught during a council meeting that she'd observed. They'd both had to sit in on a meeting if they wanted this promotion, and Kira had caught some important information. Sprocket City's water purifier was broken. If she could find the rare part they needed, something even their best engineers couldn't replicate, she'd be allowed back in. She could be back with her son and her mother. She could do the work she loved and stay safe and healthy. Without a second glance at Charles, Kira got out on the road and began walking towards the Hub. She listened for the sound of his feet pounding on the road behind her, a sure sign that he needed or wanted to stick with her. ThePyromancer

"I think we were framed somehow," Charles said from behind her. "You swear you didn't do it, and for the sake of argument, I'll believe you. I didn't do it either, meaning someone got us out because we were close to ending up on the council."
Charles followed behind Kira, not because he wanted anything to do with her, but because of what he knew she had remembered. Water purifier part, rare, unreplicable. Priceless. "You don't seriously plan to get the purifier part yourself, right? It'd take weeks to get there, and you'd most likely get killed."
"You're stupid, sweetheart, but not that stupid." Charles got over the anger he felt for being kicked out now. He saw the amusement in the situation. A girl who hated him, and now they were pretty much stuck traveling to the dangerous ends of this nuclear earth together. Shunned, exiled; from their only home and forced to scavenge and survive. What a funny situation.
Charles wanted to laugh like it wasn't happening to him. Like the hunger was already ebbing at him and he had no way to get food. No this was too funny. Even if it was his life or his death on the line, this was the funniest and most interesting thing that had ever happened to him.

And there it was. She heard him following her. Heard his words and his footsteps. And when he started to speak, she actually slowed her pace a bit. "Framed?" she repeated. Yes, she swore she didn't do it and that's because she hadn't done it. "Okay, and you claim you didn't do it. Either of us could be lying, but is there really a point in lying at this point?" she asked. Most of that was her talking to herself, but maybe he had a bit of a point. The seat on the council would have given either of them lots of power. She played fair, but it was totally possible that Charles wanted her out. He had the right to believe she'd do the same. But what if there was someone else ready for a seat on the council? Someone not quite as good as Charles or Kira, but likely the third choice? That person would do anything to get the top two choices out of their way. "Okay, but that information is useless now. Randall wouldn't listen to us if we both tried to go back and say we were framed. Plus, we don't even have any specific suspects." It might have been useful to bring up at their trials, but the information was useless now. "Killed? Who cares? The only people that care about me will never see me again anyway. I'd rather die by trying to change my life for the better than live while I'm hiding out in some other settlement where I know I'll never be as happy," she said, a disgusted tone entering her voice. "But yes. I'm going to find the part." The Hub was still a distance away, but she could begin to see the big city's outline against the otherwise flat land. "I wouldn't call it stupid," she replied evenly, biting back a comment about how he called her stupid. He really wasn't the best at finding himself on Kira's good side, was he? She didn't reply anymore to him, even at him calling her 'sweetheart'. The last thing she wanted was to give him a reaction of any kind. And while he found this situation to be funny, Kira hated it. She hated every single moment of it. She should be at work right now. She had another supervisory job today. She was supposed to supervise the doctors in their little clinic. It'd be boring for sure, but it'd be better than this. She'd go home and eat her lunch with her mom, likely working on the puzzle that the two had gotten from a trader not too long ago. She'd finish work, head home and eat dinner, tell Kayden some stories that her father told her, then she'd go to bed and be ready for the next day. She liked routine and predictably. She didn't want to be stuck out here, banished from the only home she'd ever known, with a man she didn't like. ThePyromancer

"Exactly!" Charles yelled. "Don't you understand, there is no point in lying, besides how would Randall assume it was both of us. Someone wanted us out, so the least we can do is stop blaming each other. If we don't work together, we could die out here!" Charles figured his words would have bearing on the ever-stubborn Kira. She had always assumed he was all underhanded because of his personality. Being a bad person, and acting as such to keep people from getting close to you were two very different things.
"Useless until they have reason to let us back in. Why don't we just work together to get the part? It would take less time and we wouldn't have to talk to each other. I know you'd rather not die, and would rather get back in. We CAN make that happen." Charles sped his pace to stand next to Kira.
Charles didn't have any attachments in life. No friends, no family, nothing but his work and his carefree attitude that he used on all of the girls. He needed to either die already or get back to Sprocket, just like Kira. The difference was her fight wasn't selfish, her fight was for people she cared for. "What d'ya say, sweetheart? Want to go on an adventure with the one and only Charlie Webb?"
Of course, as she had ignored and kept walking, he talked. "I'm like a finely aged wine, I get better over time!" or things like "I'll grow on you like a fungus!" Stupid little things that he hoped would make her smile. He lived to make people either smile or slap him. If could get both out of this girl within an hour, he'd be setting a personal record.

As much as she hated to admit it, Charles was right. Their best chance of survival was to work together. He was the biggest pain in the butt that she'd ever encountered, but two clueless people had to have a better chance of surviving that one. "Even together, well probably die out here," she said bitterly. Of course, he's the last person she wanted to be with when she died, but she supposed he was better than dying alone. "But I'm not gonna sit here and die. I'm going out with a fight." She looked up at the position of the sun in the sky. "We should make it to the Hub by nightfall," she said, speeding up a bit. The last thing they needed was to be stranded out here by whatever roamed the wasteland during the nights. "Fine. We can do this together, but don't expect us to be friends. This partnership is purely for our survival," she said. Kira liked people. She wasn't very good with them and wished she had more friends than she actually did, but she liked people. Charles just wasn't one of those people. "You're right that I don't want to die. I have people back home that rely on me, and my mom might not even be alive by the time we get back. My brother is a huge disappointment and I was the kid that actually got stuff done. And now her last image of me might be that I was exiled for stealing food. You think I want that? No. Now let's get going," she said. She stared straight ahead, thinking about her mom for a minute. there's no way her mom could truly believe that she had stolen the food, right? Her mom would know that Kira was a good person. There was that while sweetheart thing again. Though it had begun to annoy her, Kira realized that she could have a little fun with that. Flirt with him and see how he took it. Throw him off guard and maybe even get herself a little more power in this partnership. The thought brought a smile to her face. She didn't like Charles - not at all - but it might be fun to flirt with him a little and just see what it gets her. But that could wait until the got to the Hub. She didn't want to flirt on the road when they just needed to focus on getting to shelter. So instead, she stared straight ahead and ignored everything he said. Once they got closer to the Hub and the sun was sinking lower and lower in the sky, Kira stopped and turned to Charles. "Let me do the talking here. It's important that we get a room to stay for the night and I don't need you screwing it up," she said. There was still some distance before they reached the door, but they were close enough that she could start to make out the details of the settlement's walls. ThePyromancer

Charles found the walk to be too solemn, but he wasn't going to push it with Kira's current attitude. She had lost more than he had, and she did not seem as good at dealing with stress the way Charles could laugh it off. He almost envied Kira's ability to care so much. Charles was just as likely to end up dead as alive after this and while it probably bothered her, Charles almost welcomed it.
"Glad we've come to an agreement here, sweetheart. You know what they say, the strongest bond isn't time together, it isn't shared experience, and it sure as hell isn't love. The strongest bond is a common goal and since we've got that, we can tolerate each other." Charles said, "Though, I must admit that I plan to make it as hard for you as possible." He winked at Kira and let the walk return to relative silence.
There would always be the sound of the green tinted water, the blackened tree branches racketing against each other in the wind, and of course, the guttural screams of the mutated beasts that still roamed the wastes. Silence was not a thing out here, Charles realized, there was too much pain that could never be silenced.
Charles tried to force himself away from the sad thoughts and instead focused, step-by-step on the task ahead. They had to get in and out of the Hub before the next Sprocket City caravan came through. The caravan would no doubt warn of the fugitives. Kira and Charles had a day at best to rest, gather supplies, and set out for god know where.
As the large scrap walls of the Hub began to come into view against the evening sky, Charles found himself being lectured, once again, by Kira. "You would think that I would screw it up, but a lot of people find my wit and good looks charming instead of tantalizing, sweetheart. You might want to let me do some of this next part."

Kira still didn't know how to take things. Obviously being exiled like this was a huge inconvenience. She'd always wanted to see the world, but not like this. Maybe as part of a trading group. She could ride from town to town and see things and talk to people all with a few guards to keep her safe. By then, Kayden would be older. Maybe even moved out and married to a wonderful woman. Her mother would be dead, a peaceful death where she was taken care of by Kira until her last breath. Her brother would be... well, probably doing what he's doing right now. The point is that she'd have nobody to rely on her and nobody to take care of. It could just be her. She'd bring in some extra money and maybe even become a small hero to Sprocket City with the things and people she brought home. But with how things were, that wasn't an option. She was disgraced and kicked out from the one place she called home. Her mother would die without her and her son would grow up and be raised by a pair of strangers. And all Kita had out here was Charles. That wasn't exactly a huge improvement to being on her own. As they reached the wall, she saw a delivery schedule posted. Sprocket City wasn't due until tomorrow. Good. That means that they'd have time to resupply here. She reached into her pocket and pulled out her dice, disappointed with how much she had. Most of it was safely stored in her apartment. Hopefully it would go to Kayden instead of Randall, but Kira doubted that. She was about to reply to Charles, when a small window opened up. A bright eyes and cheery woman Called out to them and Kira couldn't help but notice how her eyes lingered on Charles. "Great. Looks like you should handle this one after all. Get us a room and try not to get us killed," she muttered. The woman smiled at the pair of weary travelers, a bright smile on her face. "Welcome to the Hub! Are you two looking for entrance? We currently have 56 permanent rooms available and one visitor shack. The cost is 40 dice a night," she offered. ThePyromancer

The first thing that Charles did as they approached the gate was to check the scheduling as well and was relieved by the results. They had a day to recuperate from the shock, gather supplies, possibly take on some odd jobs for more dice... whatever they needed to do before they set off through the wasteland towards either their redemption or their death. As the woman approached them and checked him out, he had never been more relieved the be right. How this must be pissing off Kira, he thought, incredibly satisfied. "Told you so." He said to her before turning the spunky lady in the guard stall, ready to do business. "Hey, cutie." He started, "Yeah we need a room. Would the 40 dice be per person, or per room?" He approached and leaned up against the counter next to the door. "That would be per room, but there is only one bed in a room, so you'd have to get pretty cozy. Are you visiting or looking to stay permanently?" The woman said, turning a slight pink at Charle's initial statement. "Visitors. We travel from Hennessy Island. Just passing through." Charles said to the woman. "And we aren't together either so..." The woman went into a full blush and Charles knew he was starting to win. "I hate to disappoint, sir, but we only have one visitor's room left for tonight. A big meeting is going on here so people from all over are in." Charles looked to Kira to see what to do. He didn't want to piss her off too badly right away, but it seemed they hardly had a choice on the matter. He checked his pockets for dice. He had enough to pay. Charles' Inventory:

Kira was questioned a bit at security, mostly about the medicine for her mother, but she got through without much of a problem. She'd then kept her eyes on Charles to make sure that he got through alright. As much as she disliked him right now, she still knew she needed him. Oh, she hated to admit it, but she needed Charles. Having another person around was important. She restrained herself from rolling her eyes and instead offered him a flirty smile. "What? You think I'm going to back out?" she said with an exaggerated gasp. "No way. I'm all into this," she said. Ugh. Flirting with him was not fun, but she supposed that she would maybe be able to get something out of flirting with him and that's what was the most important. "That sounds like a plan," Kira said. She let her fingers just brush his as they walked together. When she had a chance to lift her hand and point to the visitor rooms, she did so. "There!" It didn't take long to find room 15 and she unlocked the door before heading inside. She set her backpack down and kicked off her boots before going lay down on the bed. She tipped her head to look over at Charles. "Do you want to go get us dinner for the night or just not eat until morning? I know we need to save our money, so I can definitely hold off until morning," she said. The bed was surprisingly comfortable - much mor comfortable than the couch she slept in at home. There were two beds in her apartment. Kayden got the small one and her mom got the large one, leaving Kira to slee on the couch. Charles didn't speak until they passed through security. He always hated the pressure security caused and it just made him anxious even though he did every step properly. Once they were finally through, Kira said something he would have never expected her to say. He figured he was trying to get a rise out of her, so he went along with it gladly. "Looks that way. And now I'm holding you to it, sweetheart." Charles wasn't sure if he hoped that she'd regret trying to mess with him or if she wanted her to be happy about it. Of course, he knew that the first reaction would be the only one she would have. "Anyway, we should probably find this room 15 before it gets too dark," Charles said while stifling a yawn. "We can spend the morning shopping and preparing for the trip. The caravan from Sprocket comes tomorrow so we have plenty of time." Charles then began leading Kira through the streets of The Hub, searching for the visitors rooms. "Do I have any reason to think you won't back out?" Charles laughed, "This seems to be a major conflict of interests for you." Charles and Kira walked along, and he felt her brush his hand a couple times before they reached the visitor shack. What kind of game was she playing at, he wondered. He knew it wasn't anything good and he should keep his guard up. She probably still wanted him taken out. As soon as they entered the visitor shack, Charles started to relax. It was a safe, mostly private room. He emptied his pockets, took inventory of his electronics stuff, and began fiddling with it. He was hardly ready to sleep after the crappy day he'd had, and he really was waiting for Kira to stop messing with him and tell him to sleep on the floor. "I can hold off 'til morning for food, then we can prepare and skip town. Any plans for what we are to buy tomorrow. I expect food, water, weaponry..." Charles started listing. In his head, he listed even more. Practically, they had so much that they needed and should have, but with limited funds, it just wasn't happening. Kira shrugged. "Come on. The last guy that I've ever done anything with was Casper and he died seven years ago. I've been so focused on Kayden and work and my mom since then. Maybe now, without that stuff to worry abouf, I'm noticing just how lonely I am," she suggested. That was all true, and not something she expected to share with him. It was emotional, but she figured it'd work for her little game. She did miss Casper sometimes. He'd promised that they'd get married once he got the promotion he'd been working towards, but he never got it because of that stupid accident. And since then, she's been too busy to think about dating and it was all starting to hit her again. She curled up on her side, watching Charles. "Come on. Let's get some sleep," she said, her voice softer than it had been the entire day. She was mental making a shopping list for tomorrow. She could see the medicine for some extra dice, but they'd need food and water and medical supplies. Maybe a tent. She could use a weapon... Wow, there really was a lot to think about and she realized just how unprepared she was. She wouldn't admit it to Charles, but she was scared. Scared and lonely and hopeless. How did her family feel? Kayden must be terrified. She could only hope that his new family was kind and could help him through this. Her mom was probably disappointed. Either because she believed Kira was a bad person, or because Randall had exiled an innocent woman. She looked deep in thought until her eyes wandered towards Charles again. Charles paused what he was doing and left his stuff on the table in the room. She seemed sincere enough, and even though he was wary of following with what she was saying, he stripped off his shirt and lay down next to her under the thick covers. He was hardly tired, and the stress of laying next to something who he figured would try and kill him in his sleep made it even harder for him to close his eyes at all. Instead, he just gazed straight at Kira. "So, sweetheart, you got me in bed less than 24 hours into our journey. I'm impressed."
Charles' one, simple philosophy for life was to keep going. Screw the all the bad things that happen straight to hell for all he could care, as he kept moving, nothing could hurt him, and he could move on. Now though, he had the time, the opportunity, to stop and think about all that was going on. He now had nothing else to think about but the daunting task ahead of them.
They had to travel across a dangerous, radiated wasteland where they would probably get killed. On top of that, they had no idea how to find what they were looking for, and even if they did find it, they had no way of knowing if they would be let back into their old lives. Charles had nothing left to laugh about. It was only a matter of time before they died.

His confidence was starting to really amuse her. After all, it was such a simple thing when they were facing their possible deaths out here. "I've got a hard shell to crack, bud. But if you think you'll be able to get past this-" she motioned to them just laying in bed together "- maybe you will be able to." She was teasing him, but she was surprised to find that part of her hoped he was right. She hadn't had guys on her mind at all since Casper died, only now was the lonliness kicking in. And she didn't like it. She wanted to have somebody by her side like she had with her old boyfriend. She wanted to have that feeling of love again. She listened to his first words, unsure if he actually meant them. Even if he didn't, they did make her feel better. There had to be something special about them if they'd been the last two competitors for that council spot. Only the best of the best got those spots - people that could lead a settlement to life in a world like this. She felt hope for the first time since they were exiled. Maybe this wouldn't be the end. His last words, however, caught her off guard. "Charles-" she said, but he had turned around by then. She was surprised by what he said and happy that he'd turned around because she didn't know how to respond to that and her own face was slightly pink as well. "And I'll care," she promised. They needed to be there for each other. She reached out for a moment, rubbing his back slightly before letting her hand return to its spot near her head. She sighed and watched his back for a few moments before turning over onto her back at staring at the ceiling of their room. Charles shrugged, glad for the chance to escape these thoughts, "I'm pretty patient, sweetheart, and we got a lot of time out here left. I'll woo you one of these days." It was meant as a joke, but he wasn't sure how much of that he'd actually meant. Charles laid still a little while longer when Kira spoke again. He told her what she needed to hear. "I think we've definitely got a shot. We are the candidates to take a spot on the council, not just blundering idiots. We can get supplies, head out and camp in safe places and get this filter piece. And if you'll take it..." Charles hesitated. "I'll care." Charles, completely embarrassed by what he'd said, turned around immediately, hiding his reddened face from Kira's view. It was really lonely looking at the other side of the room. When Charles had awoken in the morning, he was caught by surprise. He found himself closer to Kira than he'd been last night, his arm around her, and him facing her. Not at all like he'd gone to sleep. He wondered if she had anything to do with it but quickly decided against it. He was lucky to be alive this morning, but he figured she'd kill him after they got the piece. After she was done with him. Charles decided not to move quite yet. He'd wait for her to wake up and see what had become of them in their sleep. Just to mess with her of course. While Charles had nothing better to do, he went over the shopping trip they had in store for the day in his mind one more time. They currently had 40 dice and whatever useful items and dice Kira had been toting around. Nothing Charles had on him would be sold. It was either to essential or too cheap to be worth selling, but hopefully, they could leave the Hub today with the proper, needed equipment to get going. Then they could start their dangerous trek across the nuclear world... Kira had fallen asleep a little bit after Charles had, but she'd slept surprisingly well. Now, she was half awake and groaned at the light coming through the window before shifting closer to the presence in bed next to her. She buried her face in the man's chest and cuddled up close, not wanting to climb out of bed. That's when everything snapped into place and she tensed a little. She didn't have a bed. Why was she sleeping in a bed? And Casper had died seven years ago. Who was she cuddling up close to. Kira kept her eyes closed, not wanting to see whose bed she ended up in. She took a moment to calm her heartbeat before looking up at whoever she was with. Charles? Why would she be in bed with her enemy? What had happened between them last night? She felt sick for a moment before remembering their banishment. She sighed, the panic leaving her body for a moment, still cuddled up close to him. After a few seconds of letting her heart rate slow again, she pushed herself away slightly. "Charles?" she asked, rubbing her eyes and noticing that he was shirtless. "We didnt, uh, do anything, did we?" she asked, remembering her genius idea to flirt with him. She didn't have a hangover which was good. She just hoped that nothing bad had happened with them last night. She was almost afraid to hear his answer. Charles tensed up as Kira had cuddled up closer to him. He had never expected that sort of reaction from her, so he chalked it up to her being groggy and confused. Possibly even mistaking him for her dead boyfriend it was a sour thought, and he was almost relieved to find herself coming to her senses and pushing away from him. "Yeah, I'm here." He said, "And no, we didn't 'do anything weird', I just sleep shirtless. You were begging me to, of course, but I held back. It was only the first day of the journey." Charles opened his eyes and grinned at Kira. She still seemed very confused. Charles reluctantly lifted himself out of the comfortable bed and returned to the table and all of his stuff. Charles put his shirt back on, folded up his electronics, and put everything back in his backpack. "Up, up, up!" He said to Kira, clapping after each word. "We need to get breakfast and supplies and ditch town, so you should probably get out of bed and get packing." Kira definitely was groggy that morning. She definitely was the type to cuddle up with whoever is in bed with her, so she supposed she was happy to see it was Charles instead of some creep. Especially when the memories from last night came flooding back and she remembered their talk before he had turned over and went to sleep. Wow, they'd really ended up in a different position than they'd gone to sleep in. "Uh huh," she said, rolling her eyes at Charles' comment about her begging for it last night. "Sure I was, big guy," she said, the sarcasm clear in her voice. "Remember? I'm not that easy," she said, frowning when he got out of bed. The bed suddenly felt cold without him next to her, but they probably should get up and get ready for the day. She watched him return to his place from the night before and groaned when she heard his hands clapping. But he was right. She stood up and grabbed her own backpack, glad she didn't have to change or anything. "We should probably look at what we got," she said. She dumped the contents of her backpack on the bed. "After paying for the room, I have 165 dice." Most of her other items were self explanatory. A pocket knife. Cigarette lighter. She grabbed the medicine with a victorious grin. "I was gonna go get my mom's medicine filled after work. This is expensive and powerful stuff. I'll head down to the clinic while We go shopping and see what I can get for it."
