Azar didn't think that being lead into the forest by some knights was the way that he was going to leave the castle, and now it might be the way he left the earth. He looked around at the knights as the one with the bow spoke to him.
"I saw enough," he snapped back in reply, "What are you keeping her in there for?" He asked sharply, unable to escape his curiousness even though his life was currently in danger. If things got bad he could always lose control, but he didn't want to kill them. If things came down to it, though, he would- they were going to try and kill him anyway. He could feel his hands warming in anticipation as he waited for him to either answer or strike.

“That doesn’t answer my question.” He pulled the arrow further back until the bow was completely taut. He scowled at the question. “Would you rather that monster be free and able to kill as easily as one breathes? You’re lucky she didn’t kill you… though, you’re still going to die. It will just be faster and cleaner.” (Sorry that crap knight is still crap)

Azar turned towards the archer, trying to keep a blank- emotionless face. He could lose control, but he wouldn't let any hints that he was to do so seep out of him. If they truly thought she was a monster then they might have seen her lose control once as well. Or maybe they thought she was a monster for what she could've done- or did. He looked around at the other knights again, sensing something about them that wasn't there in Anya. No- Anya had something they didn't have. The eyes... he thought, they're... normal.
His gaze turned back to the archer and his hands almost flared, but he breathed out deeply to soothe it. Let the arrow fly. I dare you.
"You're wrong," he said, lifting his arms slightly, "You're the monster."

"How dare you," the knight replied, angered that this peasant and thief would say anything of the sort to him, especially in that tone. His gaze flicked down to his hands as Azar lifted them. The knight let the arrow fly.
(Lame knight is still lame)

Azar was ready for it when it came. His hands burst with flames of different shades of blue and green as he brought them up in front of him. The flames formed a curve in front of him and acted as a temporary force field. The arrow incinerated as it hit the barrier, and then fell towards Azar as blue ashes. If the knights hadn't thought he was like Anya already, they sure did now. The barrier sparked out and the flames that surrounded and created it faded away as well. A short pause settled throughout the group. Would they run? Fight? He didn't know if he could do that again, and didn't want to stick around to find out. Unfortunately escape by running wasn't much of an option for him with that archer around. If he could only knock him out or something...
His hands lit up in flames again without him wanting them to- blazing with ferocity as if they had been angered. He looked wide-eyed at the archer- knowing that he was going to lose control.
"Run."

The knights all leapt back from the fire, the two who had yet to draw weapons grabbing their swords. The archer fumbled for an arrow, struggling to put it to the bow in his panic. His eyes were just as wide, if not wider, than Azar’s were.
“So you’re just another monster,” he spat, letting another arrow fly towards Azar. This one wasn’t aimed as well as the first had been. It was even more important now to find out what had happened between him and Anya in the castle, but it was more important than that to take him out. They were forbidden from killing the princess, but a monster peasant was a completely different story.

Azar closed his eyes and threw himself to the right as another arrow flew at him. He didn't seem to be in much control anymore. The flames flew around him in a ring and spread outwards towards the knights. Monster. The word echoed through his head as he felt the heat from the flames all around him. It was similar to the night that he had killed his parents. He breathed heavily, trying to regain control of it before another ring of fire came. They were going to kill him, right then and there.
No. They were going to try. He opened his eyes and looked at the archer, slowly raising his right hand which was completely engulfed in flames.

The knights continued to retreat, trying to put some distance between themselves and the fire. The archer shot off another arrow, this time missing by a few feet without Azar even needing to move. One of the other knights raised his sword and charged straight towards him while his attention was occupied.

The arrow that whizzed harmlessly passed Azar made him jump back in surprise. In his peripheral vision he saw the knight charging towards him. His blazing hands lifted up and he screamed in shock as the knight's sword came rushing at him. The flames glistened and shined in front of him, shooting out in some directions- one of which was towards the knight but narrowly missed another. Another of which uselessly shot into the sky before fading out of existence.
The knight kept charging and Azar knew that the attacker's determination would lead to nothing but trouble for him. He held his hands out in front of him towards the knight, hoping to keep him back so that he wouldn't be pierced by the blade.

Anya froze, a cold shiver going down her spine. Fire didn’t just shoot into the air like that. And it wasn’t that color. So he is like me. She grabbed the edge of the window, panic clawing its way up her throat. They’re going to think I was working with him or that I did whatever he’s doing to knights and they’ll kill me. Her fingers tingled. She pulled her hands back, watching small tendrils of electricity twist around her fingers. She tried to take a deep breath, but that felt nearly impossible.
——
The knight kept coming at him and another joined him, charging from the other side.

Fire bloomed out of Azar's right hand, shooting past the knight in front of him. The knight reached him and sliced through the air with his sword, giving Azar a good sized cut on his left shoulder. He noticed the knight behind him as he was dodging and stepped past his first attack with inches to spare. Bringing up a flaming left hand to aim at both of the attackers. He was fast, he could outrun them, but not if they had their horses and he didn't have Magnus. Another sequence of well aimed sword attacks sliced through the air towards him, one of which he parried with a downward burst of fire.
He glanced back to see the other two knights- but quickly put his attention back on the ones attacking him directly.

{{- Sorry I wasn't on yesterday I was having a very big party for my mom's birthday. (yeah no problem, I completely understand. Ummmm... For the knights that remain, do you want them to die or run away? Because I kinda want them to die because I know Anya would freak out (because she'll think that the court will blame her for it) and I can see it causing Azar a lot of grief and I enjoy putting characters into situations like that)

Azar side-stepped the next swipe from a knight's sword, getting in close and punching him with a blazing hand of blue and green flames. The fire didn't act normally and instead fueled his punch. The man flew back and flames spread through the air with him. The next attacker was sent flying into a tree by a burst of flames imploding in front of him.
An arrow stuck into a tree that Azar was momentarily leaning on. He looked at the archer as he loaded another arrow and stared intently at the string of the bow. The archer drew it back the bow, but was surprised when the string burst into flames, burning up in front of him. It seemed as if Azar had won, but the last knight was unrelenting, pulling out a smaller dagger from a hilt on his back.
Wait, last one? He was sure there had been four. He looked behind him to see just forest, so instead focused on the archer, who was now advancing with a dagger. Azar held up his right hand, sending a burst of something in his direction. It had seemed like fire at first, but looked more like a field of energy slicing through the air in the archer's direction.
Azar closed his eyes before it ended the last threat, knowing he was now alone.

Anya dug her hands into her hair, eyes closed tight. Electricity continued to softly crackle around her hands and now head. Calm down. What she needed to do was calm down. Panicking wouldn’t help, if the knights returned after dealing with Azar and they saw her like this, she’d only end up in a worse situation. So she just needed to calm down and get a hold of herself. Given, that was easier said than done with the constant crackling right there, reminding her of the freak she was, what she had done… No. She wasn’t going to lose control again. Not if someone could come to the castle. She wouldn’t hurt someone again.
After awhile the crackling passed, though the tingling in her fingers told her it was still just below the surface. She let out a breath, opening her eyes just in time to see a burst of light from the forest. After that, nothing. She stared at the section of the woods, waiting for something else seemed to happen. Was Azar unable to keep fighting or was there nothing left for him to fight?

Azar fell to the ground and leaned up against the tree that he was by. He closed his eyes tightly and rubbed the sides of his head. Only a slight warmth in his hands and the shame were indicators of what had just happened. One got away, he thought, that has to count for something. His attacks had been much more controlled than they had ever been. The night of the accident it was like he wasn't even able to stop it if he wanted to. He looked at the archer, laying facedown on the ground. A silent tear rolled down his cheek. That's all that he had caused to anyone that he had ever encountered- grief and death.
The one that got away, he didn't even know where he had gone. Surely not back to the ruined castle? Anya. The thought of her made him cringe. She was like him- maybe she would know what to do. He pulled out one of the books from the inside of his coat. It was scorched on one of the corners, but otherwise unharmed. If the knight had gone back to the castle she could very well be dead. He had to at least see.
It took him a while, but once he finally got up he rushed towards the direction of the castle. They hadn't gone deep enough into the forest for him to lose sight of it from through the canopy of the trees. He raced up to the entrance and opened the door roughly. A slight warmth in his hands came over him again- hotter than it had been when he had finished the battle.
"Breathe," he said aloud, forcing himself to stop and take a few deep breaths to calm himself down. He looked up at the magnificent sight of the interior of the castle. He glanced around at the staircases and hallways that lead away from the main entrance, wondering where Anya could be.

(Sorry this took so long, I waited til the last day to do all my homework)
Anya leaned out of the window, still waiting for something to happen. Instead, she saw Azar run from the trees to the castle. She took a step back. A moment later, she heard the echo of the large doors being opened. The panic that had begun to recede clawed it's way back to the forefront in earnest. Of course, Azar had been the one to come out alive. She shouldn't have expected any less, not from another monster. And now he had come back, either for help or to get rid of the last witness. She wasn't sure which on was more likely.
But that was only a minor problem. If it came down to it, Anya was sure she'd be able to defend herself against Azar. No, the real problem was the knights. The knights who would never return to her father's court. Who's deaths would be investigated and when their bodies were sooner or later discovered... They'll think I did it. Almost a decade. Just when she was beginning to think that maybe, just maybe, they would start to realize she wasn't a threat. Just then this monster peasant had to show up and ruin her life even more than it already had been. Couldn't get any worse than death, so at least there was nowhere else for him to drag her down to.
There was a deep hum in the room. At first, Anya had assumed it to be the blood rushing in her ears or something else with her panic. But now, it was clear that it wasn't just in her head. Electricity had spread from her body, from her feet, across the floor, up the walls, eventually meeting back up above her head. An electrical cage. She stumbled back to her bed, closing her eyes tight. Calm down. She needed to calm down.

{{- So sorry this took so long. I am currently burdened with homework and studying and also a new sport. -}}
Azar stood up straight again after having his hands on his knees for a brief moment. He looked around, wondering where Anya would be. If the knight had gotten to her first and killed her he would never forgive himself. He didn't wish for her to die, and if she did it would be on his account. The knights had probably thought that he had planned with her. If one went after her, would she be able to defend herself? She had the knife- and it was clear now that she was like him. Surely she would be able to take down one knight.
Unaware that the knight had not even come in the castle after the fight, Azar trekked around the entryway of the castle. "Anya?" He called, turning in a circle to see all of the various hallways and staircases that he could take.

(No problem, homework and college apps have been keeping me plenty busy)
Anya sat hunched over, her hands in her hair. She couldn’t let him find her in this state. She had no idea what he’d do if he did. She had no idea what she’d do if he did. Her shuddering breathes slowly steadied, the electricity fading as she forced her emotions deep, deep down. The tingling remained, but when she opened her eyes, any visible trace of her power had vanished. Even the crackle and hum of energy has faded back into just the simple tingling of her fingers.
Anya pulled out her dagger—admittedly, probably useless at this point, but she’d rather use it to defend herself if anything happened. At least she had control over the dagger. She took another moment to make she that she had a hold of herself. She found herself putting on a cold and distant air, something she had hardly done since she was placed in this prison. Given, she never had needed it. Anya made her way out of her chamber and down the stairs. She lingered at the bottom, hoping that he had maybe left without her hearing.

Azar turned around from facing the library. He had thought that maybe she was still in there from earlier, but disregarded it when he heard the faint footsteps from behind him. There she was, at the bottom of the steps, dagger in hand. Was she afraid of him? Did she know what had happened? He had come to make sure that she was alive, and now that it was confirmed that she was he didn't know what to do.
"I- I thought one had come for you, I'm sorry," he stuttered. His loud voice echoed eerily throughout the many hallways and staircases that lead away from the grand entrance of the castle. "I know I shouldn't have returned."

Anya stared at him, brow furrowed. His first words caught her off guard, but she didn’t show it. What, had he been trying to protect her by coming back here? Had he for some strange reason decided he cared about what happened to her? But that didn’t make sense. People didn’t care about strangers. People hardly cared about anyone besides themselves.
That was all without thinking even touching on the fact that he was worried a knight had come back here. He hadn’t killed them all after all. Maybe not even any of them. Perhaps this thief had more control over himself than she ever had. Or maybe he was just that incompetent.
She took a few steps forward, cocking her head to the side. “You thought one of what had come for me?” she asked, feigning ignorance. Her fingers fidgeted around the dagger. “Why are you even here? You should be long gone by now. Did you decide the books I gave you weren’t enough?”

Azar glanced away slightly in shame when she asked who would've came for her. You killed them- all of them. Only the one who ran had survived, and if he hadn't ran then surely he would be on the ground in the forest right now...
"No, the books were more than enough, I didn't even deserve them!" His fists clenched and heated up. He didn't know why he was angry at her. Maybe because he knew she wanted him gone. "I thought one of the knights had come to kill you! The others- they're dead. All of them!" He took a step back, breathing in and out slowly. He looked at the ground, trying to control. He wouldn't lose it now, it wasn't the time. He looked back up at her, then brought his head down again. He was worried for her safety. He had thought that one would come to kill her, and that it would've been his fault. To be responsible for her death would tear him apart.
But if he truly cared about her life, why had he come back? He was dangerous, he could lose it, he could kill her without meaning to. "One of them survived..." He spoke, almost too quiet for her to hear. "He's going back to where they came from." Azar paused, looking back up at her light, captivating eyes, "Where you came from."

The blood drained out of Anya’s face. Her facade fell away. All she could do was stare at him. Then, the dizziness came, dark spots dancing around the edges and into her vision dragging her down to the ground, sitting down for fear of passing out. She took a shallow breath, realizing that she had been holding it, but it did little to help. The panic and fear that clawed up her throat made breathing seem nearly impossible. She was drowning.
What she had thought she had seen was correct. He had fought them. And he had won. So now her fate was sealed.
Monsters only kill and hurt. Your death will save others from dying at your hands, a cold voice whispered.
For a moment, she saw her mother’s body sprawled on the floor in front of her, blood around the two of them. When she blinked, it was gone. She looked back up at Azar. Her hands were numb, though the suffocating pressure on her chest and throat remained. Unbeknownst to her, energy crackled around her hands and against the floor as she struggled to stay afloat.

Azar watched helplessly as she fell to the ground. His hands tingled with energy, and he could feel them fueled by his sudden outburst of rage toward Anya. No, it hadn't been at Anya, but at himself. The deaths of the knights weren't her fault, they had been his. Him coming to the castle because of his stupid curiosities had doomed her. If he had let the knights kill him, wouldn't she have had every reason to stay here unharmed? It seemed he be responsible for her death entirely. That is, if she stayed here.
There wasn't much doubt in his mind that she wouldn't be able to take down a few of them, but if they came back with more than both of them would be capable of fending off, then their only chance of surviving was to flee before they came. What was he thinking? There was no they.
"You can't stay here," Azar mumbled quietly, unsure if she were able to hear him, "I'm sorry."

Anya slowly pulled her knees up to her chest, wrapping her arms around her legs. Her limbs felt heavy and sluggish. She hid her hands out of habit, covering them in a futile attempt to hide any electricity around them. Were she in a better state of mind, she would have wondered what Azar thought of her, so scared and helpless. But her thoughts seemed as slow as her body.
He was speaking again. She could hear him, but it hardly seemed to register, more just noise to her than anything with meaning. Two words managed to make their way through the fog of her mind after a moment. Can’t stay. She stared at the ground in front of her, shaking her head numbly.
“I can’t leave,” Anya forced out after a few moments, throat tight. Her voice was barely audible. She could hardly breathe, shadows dancing in the eye of her vision. She knew she needed to calm down, but at the moment she couldn’t think of a single way how. She saw the blood on the floor again. “I’m a monster.”
