Stormstar shook her head. Their ideas were foolish. The water didn't magically change, and nothing just appears, especially not blood. The ancestors had to be warning them about a dangerous beast. Something worse than the sharks. They would still have the problem going into the water, but a beast was fixable. The clan had methods to fight off beasts. "The ancestor's are warning us about a dangerous predator. Waves of blood would be ridiculous. The red wave must be their way of saying blood will be spilled if we don't stop this." She said with a flick of her tail.
It was all very reassuring in her mind. Now she knew the time and what might befall them. She would have the warriors brush up on their fighting skills and mentors give their apprentices a short lesson on fighting in the water. "Shalespots, try to limit going into the water. If you do need to, ask a warrior to come along." She told the medicine cat as she stood up. "Right now, we should get back to camp before the seaweed dries." The leader picked up the stored seaweed and flicked her tail for the tom to follow.
---
Sealpaw grinned. Oysters were more boring to catch, but they were tastier. The apprentice use to east them almost everyday when he was a kit. He braced himself, ready to jump in when he heard his mentor's question. Again, he frantically searched his mind while he shuffled his paws. He didn't really understand what rules Batflight was speaking about. He was guessing his mentor was speaking about the way to catch oysters safely. "One cat dives and the other stays at the surface. You have to make sure the other cat is still okay if they don't surface. Keep your eyes on the waves." he started to list all of the advice he was given by Ottersplash.

(( Okie dokie so I like that but I also want Rain to have kits with a she-cat So maybe Rain and Ninx can be friendly to one another and one day Rain tells Ninx about his attraction to a she-cat unbeknownst to Ninx's feelings? Angst ensues Okay. I'm fine with that))

BatflightBatflight nodded approvingly. His apprentice was better at remembering how to hunt in the water then on land, but then that was to be expected of any Shore clan cat, he supposed. “Good, I’m glad you remember how to hunt in the water at least,” Moving his body slowly into the water now, he twitched his tail for his apprentice to follow. Using his strong legs, Batflight moved quicker into the ocean until he no longer felt the sand beneath his paws. Turning to make sure his apprentice was doing okay, and keeping his head above the water, Batflight meowed, “I will dive first, watch the waves carefully. If the waves get to be too rough, let me know and we’ll get out of the water.” Holding his breath, the strong tom slipped into the sea’s water, he could see an oyster nearby. Happily he snagged it into his teeth, and swam back to his apprentice. Batflight held out the oyster expectantly for the apprentice to take back to shore. When his mouth was freed, he meowed, “When you get back, you can have a turn at diving, and I’ll watch the waves. We can just switch off, if you do well I’ll show you how to catch fish in the water,” He hoped that would make his apprentice eager. However, as he watched the sea nervously, he wondered if the two would even get to do so. ( zero I'll think about it!)

sorry. very busy weekend. )
Sealpaw kept on eye on the waves, but didn't really pay attention. The waves in the cover were always calm when the sky was clear like this. He had seen the waves in the sea. They looked amazing and powerful. Not thing to swim in but it looked cool. He really wanted his name to include something with a wave. Sealwave sounded weird though. Maybe Sealsplash. He blinked when something poked its head out of the water.
It took him a second to realize the thing was his mentor. Right, he was fishing. Not just watching the waves. The apprentice took the oyster and nodded. He swam back as fast as he could. "Okay, I'm going." He said right before diving.
The water was freeing. It was smooth and easy to swim in. He could actually move like a dignified cat and not some lopping fox. He felt comfortable. The tom swam to the bottom of the lake and started to chip away at the oyster. He wiggled and wiggled the shell. He could feel this lungs burning. He would not quit. The tom retched the oyster free. the apprentice swam up to where he hoped his mentor was waiting. He held up the oyster with a grin.

Shalespots ears were pinned back the moment he was corrected, embarrassment coming over him in waves, because really? How could he have thought that there would have been such a thing as the water turning into blood? What was he, a kit? He looked at his paws, nodding a little, realizing he had so much more to learn before he'd be even a competent medicine cat. "I suppose... I suppose you are correct on that." He agreed lowly with a small sigh, shaking out his fur, knowing that a beast would make more sense. A beast was something that they could all handle. The spirits were warning them, not punishing.
He let out a soft growl when he was told to not go in the water and if he had to have a warrior go with him. He knew it was because there wasn't much he could do about orders and he really wasn't the best at swimming but it was so embarrassing that she doubted his abilities in general. He picked up the seaweed, though, knowing it was best not to argue. He was basically useless, though, and if it weren't for him knowing something about herbs he would have probably been kicked out of the clan. You aren't much better than a useless kit. He thought angrily, staying quiet, shaken and upset from this entire excursion.

Tempestpaw watched intently as Shrimpstrike pushed through the strong current, her ears perked as watched the water above her for any signs of where her mentor would surface. The apprentice wouldn't admit it but she was having a difficult time keeping herself afloat primarily because of her short stature, but also because of the longer bit of fur that grew on her body which weighed the apprentice down. With each tug of the waves as they moved out towards the ocean Tempestpaw would unwillingly be pushed along with them trying her best to kick her legs so she could bring herself back to what was the shallow parts of the water. "Shrimpstike I think.." She began hesitantly as her mentor handed her the oyster. She wanted to leave but didn't want to look weak, especially in front of her mentor. "I think I should go hide this now." And with that the apprentice quickly made her way to the shore, her dark brown coat dripping onto the sand as she stalked onto the beach with her fur's weight.
Once Tempestpaw found a good spot to secure the oyster she made her way back to the water, pushing herself out further so she could be closer to her mentor not just to help her but so she could feel safer. She waited patiently for her mentor's permission to go and while she did feel a bit excited she couldn't help but worry if anything were to go wrong.

She waited patiently for her mentor's permission to go and while she did feel a bit excited she couldn't help but worry if anything were to go wrong. "Ok" Shirmpstike yelled over the waves, misjudging there ebb and flow and getting a mouthful of salty water. She turned her head, spitting it out to go back to the waves where it belonged. "Just go directly down and grab one of the oysters down there, then we can go down to shore and finish this." Shrimpstike looked her apprentice over, noticing her legs pumping franticly just to keep her afloat. "I'll dive down with you, just to keep an eye on things." She decided, not wanting to lose her apprentice in the choppy waves when Tempestpaw resurfaced. The conditions were getting worse and worse, and soon it would be hard for even a seasoned warrior to hunt. "1, 2, 3 go." Shirmpstrike called, diving down and hoping her apprentice followed her.

Tempestpaw was grateful that her mentor would accompany her during her dive and when the time came for her to go under she was able to muster up the courage to propel herself under the waves. All she needed to do was go directly down and come back up so the two could leave so Tempestpaw did her best to swim downward, her small paws making contact with the shell of an oyster before she accidentally batted it away from her. Tempestpaw followed behind the oyster as she tried to scoop it up and return to the surface, but the oyster just wouldn't cooperate! The current swept the oyster away inch by inch along with the small apprentice and once again Tempestpaw's stubbornness would prove to be her downfall.
After chasing the oyster farther than she intended to do the apprentice was able to finally secure it in her grasp, turning to swim up towards the surface the apprentice's vision began to get darker causing her to panic and quickly swim upward. Tempestpaw breached the surface with a large gasp for air, her green eyes wide with fear as she looked for her mentor. "Shrimpstrike!" She yowled. Oh no. Did she swim too far? Had her mentor left her behind? Thoughts began to race through the apprentice's head as she frantically looked around. What had happened was the current had swept the small apprentice along with her, pushing her out farther into the waves.

Shrimpstrike trailed behind her apprentice, noticing her chasing the oyster along the bottom as she batted it away. Shrimpstrike stayed still, cursing herself silently. She should have explained her to grab onto the oyster properly. She felt like an idiot and was rapidly running out of breath. How could Tempestpaw still be down there? She tried to signal to the young cat to come up, but she was too focused on the oyster. Shrimpstike finally pushed herself off the bottom, causing a cloud of sand to obscure her vision as she rapidly made her way to the surface. Her head broke the water, and she immediately started calling for her apprentice. "Tempestpaw!" Shirmpstrike yowled, voice high and panicked despite her best efforts to stay calm. "Tempestpaw, I'm coming to get you!" She yelled again, still having no idea where her apprentice was. At least if the small cat heard here she sounded confident and in control of the situation, though she felt the opposite.

Tired, now more awake. )
Stormstar's tail lashed before she could stop it. She had heard the tom's small growl. While she did realize what the medicine cat's frustrations were, she couldn't save his dignity this time. The clan could survive without her, given some time to adjust. The clan would not survive loosing their medicine cat with no apprentice. She didn't like making the tom upset, but she didn't like leaving the clan in a voluble position more. The leader knew she didn't have many moons left. She just wanted to make sure everything was at peace when it was time. Part of that was making sure the clan had all of its cats safe and happy.
"Be quiet about the wave." she said bluntly, "We don't want the clan to panic." The leader turned her head to look at Shalespots. She frowned at the tom's broken face. Still, she tried to keep a straight face.

Stormsar blinked. She didn't think the tom would have snapped. She didn't take it to offence, much. The medicine cat was young. He had to keep the whole clan healthy and safe. She became deputy when she was thirty moons and the task was heavy enough. He had to be tired. But he needed to understand that he was inexperienced. Nothing could make up for moons of working with the clan. Stormstar wanted to advise him. The leader knew when it was time to take a step back, so she didn't say a word.

Tempestpaw looked around frantically, hoping to at least catch a glimpse of her mentor over each passing wave. For once the rowdy apprentice had been instilled with fear and she didn't have any clever ways to get herself out of the mess she was in. She allowed herself to remain still after fruitless amounts of searching, keeping her ears perked for any sounds that would indicate the location of her mentor. "Shrimpstrike?" She turned at the sound of her mentor's yowls. "Shrimpstrike I'm over here!" She yowled hoping the waves wouldn't drown her out.
The sky had began to grow darker with each passing moment, causing the apprentice's vision to become obscured and slightly disorient her. It wouldn't be long until Tempestpaw's legs gave out so with what little strength she had she began to swim towards to where she thought her mentor would be, hoping her guess was correct. Tempestpaw couldn't help but think of her mother's words of warning, cursing herself as she had now deliberately disobeyed her mother and put herself in danger.

The dark tabby tom had concluded his duties for the day and decided to take one more look around the clans borders to make sure everything was secure. His large paws brought him far out into the dense forest that lay behind the camp, an area that he hadn't been well accustomed to as his clan primarily hunted on the beach. Rainwatcher's sharp eyes scanned the area around him and kept his ears open for any signs of danger there was no knowing as to what he could encounter out here. After a few moments the large warrior stumbled upon what seemed to be a shelter. "How strange.." He began before lifting his muzzle to catch a scent of any nearby animals. "Hello? I know you're out here. Your scent is everywhere." Rainwatcher was a large tom and could survive a fight with another cat easily, but he didn't know of the dangers out here what if what he was really smelling was something far worse than a outsider? Perhaps it would be a fox? But he had never seen one before in his life, only heard stories of them growing up.

Ninx had been sitting in his homey den looking at his two cat nest sadly. I wish there was a tom nearby that was interested in me. He was brought out of his thoughts when he heard a voice. Scenting the air he caught the smell of a tom and his eyes saddened more as he stood and turned to the entrance of his den. Stepping out, the vines over the entrance rubbing across his fur, he took a moment to feel the sand beneath his paws before turning to the other tom. He was about to say something but the words got lost in his throat as he stared at the cat in front of him.

Shrimpstike finally got a glimpse of her apprentice over the rolling waves. Even though the sea was throwing water in her face, her legs burned like fire, and she could still feel the worry clawing at her throat like a crabs claw, she felt franticly happy as her eyes meant Tempestpaws. She grabbed Tempestpaws scruff with sharp teeth, heaving her apprentice higher up in the water so she could breath easier. "Pmmf, the shores that way, I'll take you over." Shrimpstrike whispered through the fur, turning in the opposite direction and swimming Tempestpaw and her onto the firm ground. She ended up underwater at many points along the journey, trying to support her apprentice as best she could. She seemed tired out from all this rogue swimming, and Tempestpaw shouldn't have to do anything more. It was Shrimpstrikes fault for getting them into this mess. She carried her apprentice towards the shore and they were finally pushed onto the shore by a helpful wave. Shrimpstrike coughed up what seemed like the entire ocean, heaving for breath.

Batflight
Batflight blinked at his apprentice, “Sealpaw be careful, if you start to feel yourself get uncomfortable come up. You don’t want to drown, remember. Drowning isn’t worth any prey,” He then took the oyster out of Sealpaw’s mouth, and swam back to shore. He found the spot where Sealpaw had buried their other two prey and buried the oyster with them.
Moving back into the water, he joined his apprentice. Making sure both he and his apprentice were keeping their heads above the water he meowed, “Okay, now I’ll show you how to catch a fish. Watch me closely, and make sure the waves aren’t moving either. If it gets to be too dangerous, remember, we need to leave,” He hoped his apprentice was actually taking him seriously. Cats got hurt when they didn’t pay attention to the waves. Which despite any sunny day, could change at any moment if a cat wasn’t paying attention.
Diving back into the water, Batlfight moved his body more slowly. Unlike oysters, fish were creatures that could sense when they were being hunted. A cat had to make sure that the fish didn’t realize they were there until the last moment. Spotting a nice looking fish, Batflight hooked the fish with his claw, and gave the fish a quick finishing bite. He swam back up, and held it out for his apprentice to take.
