Yikes, that sounds exhausting o.o I hate travelling long distances, though that's mostly just due to my anxiety. I think the furthest I've ever made it to was like the edge of Idaho to go to Silverwood (I live in Washington). Anxiety was going haywire nearly the whole time >.< at least Silverwood was pretty fun.

I mean, I love flying but I could do without all the bits in between(TSA, rushing to your gate, waiting, etc.). on top of those bits in between, sitting in on a plane for multiple hours makes my pain flare up so!! lots of fun

Hello, I'm Melody, although that is the name of my on-line persona; I prefer not to discuss my human persona, for I do not identify with it. I suffer from social anxiety, and I have *high functioning autism and aspergers.
(*I really dislike using the terms "high functioning" and "low functioning", but for the lack of better terms at my disposal at this current time, I shall use them just this one time. Also, I know that the term aspergers was eliminated as of 2013, but I was diagnosed prior to that happening.)
My only trigger warning as of me writing this is friendship. Hearing the word itself (or hearing someone else call someone else a friend) does not trigger me, but having someone call me a friend does. It gives me flashback of past events in my life that I would rather much not like to relive. Thus, if anyone who is reading this message does become close to me in the future, please call me a companion instead; if I think of a better term, I will notify you. To summarize this paragraph, calling me a friend will automatically kill any chances of me being comfortable around you at any time after that.
I am unsure of my pronouns or my gender, but for now, non-binary and they/them works. Either these are placeholders, or they are my actual identity. Growing up in a very religious (Christian) home is hard. :/
I was wondering what you readers think of autism. I personally believe that it is a neurological difference in the brain (compared to NTs) - not a disorder or a disease. I also heard it is caused by vaccines, but I am not sure on this one. Also, I am unsure on this, so I was hoping for an answer: while I am gay (possibly pan), I am, as I said before, autistic. As we all know, both groups were treated horrifically in the past, and still are (to a lesser extent) today. However, were/are autistic people as oppressed and mocked/frowned upon as gays, for example, or can the two not be compared at all?
If at any point during this message I offended anyone for any reason, I apologize.

I donβt think the two should be compared as autism is a disability and sexuality is not(this is coming from a person who is both autistic and a part of the LGBTQ community).

Alright, I didn't mean to offend you. I didn't know this. Thank you for letting me know.
I'm not questioning your answer, I am just curious on your take on this: do you think that autism is a disability, or a neurological difference? You know, either a brown spot on a red apple, or just a different colored apple?
I am in the same boat as you, being in the LGBTQ+ community and also being autistic. I am still trying to find a definition for my sexuality. If you (or anyone else) could help me with this (via PM?), that would be appreciated; it is difficult Googling something when your question is over a paragraph long.

Go ahead and PM me! I love discussing sexuality and helping people discover themselves, though I think itβs very important to stress the fact that you donβt need a label.
I think autism is a disability. I need a service dog to properly function because of it(and other disabilities).

I will do so. I just have to feed my cat first. Nevertheless, no autistic people are alike. For example, besides anxiety and depression (but anxiety is the biggest player here), I am "normal", other than the fact that my brain is wired differently than most. I don't experience panic attacks; I just cannot enter a grocery store alone, I cannot initiate conversations with anyone IRL, I would be a horrible salesperson, etc. I also cannot read people non-verbally. But everyone I inform that I have autism (and even then, I've only told a few people), they are always surprised, genuinely stating that they never would have guessed. In addition, autistic people often do have some abilities that NT's do not have.

YoI IαΈΏ kind of mentally disabled... I have Bipolar Disorder, though it's more manic. I also have ADHD, Yall can call em basically anything, though either Ed, Tom, or Haru-Chan is preferred. I can be over-excitable, and a little weird. I also sometimes end up self-deprecating myself on bad days. Sometimes, though, I do it jokingly. I've only truly been depressed once.

Yep. My mom said I was diagnosed when I was five, and my dad had it as well.

Hello, count me in on this thread! I spent several hours last semester working on a project to promote the Spoon theory, so I'm so happy to see thread popping up I've had with JIA (juvenile idiopathic arthritis) for practically my whole life but I started having Reynaud's and Pernio about eight years ago. That's also when I started to struggle with GAD and persistent depressive disorder. Just recently I found out that my JIA is causing me to be constantly anemic, which is kinda annoying.

Thatβs... pretty early, to be quite honest. Most psychologists are extremely hesitant to diagnose young children with mental disorders due to the fact that a childβs mind is constantly growing and it could just be them acting out and doing regular child things. You donβt remember being tested?
