"Uh. . .yes! Ahem. . . Watch and learn, cats of MoonClan!" The young apprentice lifted his nose to catch the scent of mouse and followed it for a few moments before stopping. A few tail-lengths away, Sparrowpaw can see a small creature moving along the icy ground.
Flicking his ear in confidence, he got into a hunting crouch position and begun to creep towards it, trying to be as light and silent as possible. Unfortunately, he made the mistake of holding in his breath and his movements being much too slow. Before he could take another step, the mouse perked up and ran off quickly.
"Shoot!" Sparrowpaw exclaimed in frustration before giving chase, trying to catch up to it. While he was chasing after the soon-to-be-fresh-kill, he couldn't help but notice the environment around him. Suddenly, a painful longing to run across the borders and explore the open world filled his entire body from his ear tips to his paws. He wanted so desperately to abandon his training altogether and run free, discovering new places and meet new cats. In the midst of his thoughts, Sparrowpaw ended up slamming himself into a tree, making a loud THUMP noise. The pain shooting throughout his face felt like a harsh slap back into reality.
"OW OW OW OW!" Sparrowpaw pawed at his sore nose, his tail curling up.

Ashwing blinked at her apprentice, too distracted by his encounter with the tree to sprint after the already-retreating mouse. "Sparrowpaw!" She called, her tone caught between concern, amusement, and a very slight note of frustration. She glanced nervously at Graymoon, hoping that the leader wouldn't hold her apprentice's slip-up as a measure of her competency as a mentor. She dipped her head as a pang of guilt flitted through her belly. Maybe I have been neglecting my duties a bit...we'll have to work harder in the coming days.
Brushing off her thoughts with an absent flick of her gray tail, Ashwing hurried over to Sparrowpaw, her paws sliding carefully over the slick layer of snow coating the ground. "What happened?"

Sparrowpaw, eyes squinting in pain, grinned nervously at his mentor. Running into a tree in front of his leader AND mentor has to be the most embarrassing thing he's ever done. Among other embarrassing things he's done.
"Uh. . .I d-don't know! That mouse - oooww...! - really gave me the slip there!" he exclaimed, snorting in frustration at the memory of losing the mouse. "I really thought - ow ow ow...! - that I had it. Stupid mouse-brained. . . . .mouse!"

Ashwing's hard gaze softened at the sight of Sparrowpaw's spiraling in verbal circles. "It's all right," she replied, doing her best to gather her air of gruffness back around herself, though a bit of softness still managed to slip through the cracks. "Mice can be quick. Anyway, it looks like your main issue there was your stalking technique—the mouse could hear you coming from across the clearing. Especially in the snow, it's important to stay quiet. Try to move your paws more swiftly next time," she suggested. "It will help keep them from sinking too deep and alerting the prey of your presence."

Sparrowpaw looked between Graymoon and Ashwing, trying to find the correct words to respond. Unfortunately, he couldn't find any, so all he could respond with was, "Okay. I'm sorry, Ashwing. . ."
What a mouse-brained thought earlier. Exploring beyond the borders, abandoning his own Clan and mentor to do that. . . How could he even think like this in the first place? He's practically betraying everyone just thinking it alone! And yet, despite his self-lecture about following the code and sticking with his Clan, Sparrowpaw still couldn't help letting these traitorous thoughts get to him. Something was calling to him out there. Somewhere. He just doesn't know what yet.

Ashwing's eyes narrowed slightly as shetried to ascertain the perplexing expression in her apprentice's eyes, but she pushed the thoughts away quickly. I'm sure it's nothing. "It's all right," she replied out loud, parting her jaws slightly to scan the air for prey-scents. "Let's find another mouse, and you can try again. Do you scent anything right now?" She quizzed.

Scrunching his nose painfully, he once again lifted his muzzle and this time, Sparrowpaw focused intently on prey scent. Mouse, mouse, mouse. . . He felt a bit disappointed that he couldn't smell anything. Maybe there aren't any mice in this area? The tabby tom turned to Ashwing.
"I don't smell anything." he said, a bit dejected. "Maybe we should go somewhere else?"

(Thank you! ) Crouching down, Spiritpaw walked through the soft grass as she tries to find a prey. Currently, she was hungry and she would like to train more in becoming a better hunter. Though, her hunting skills is.. a little decent but she needed to train more. A squeak rang through her ears and immediately crouched down. Sniffing the air, she decided to follow the scent of the small rodent.

Screen name: Fireburst
Name: Silverfern
Age: 30 Moons
Gender: Male
Rank: Medicine Cat
Description (full sentences please): Silverfern is an average-sized male with light gray fur at a medium length, black-tipped ears, sky-blue eyes, a large white spot on his chest, a black-tipped tail, and white paws.
Personality (full sentences please): Silverfern is a friendly and humble cat who believes it is his duty as a medicine cat to put other cats first. He can be quite opinionated, which has lead to several disagreements in the past. Despite this, he has a tendency to be rather soft spoken and doesn't usually voice his concerns unless he really sees some sort of danger. He puts a lot of thought into what he says and can be quite analytical, although at times this causes him to over analyze simple situations, which is one of the reasons he is often less social then his peers. As a kit, he dreamed of one day defending his clan as a full-fledged warrior and even began training as a warrior apprentice. Unfortunately, he just couldn't keep up with the other apprentices and ended up injuring his left front paw. Luckily for him, while he was recovering in the medicine cat's den, he realized his true passion: caring for his sick and/or injured clan mates. It was at that point that he promised himself that he would become a great medicine cat. A promise he fulfills more every day.
Mate/crush/family: N/A.
Are you willing to mentor an apprentice (if warrior): I'm willing to mentor a medicine cat apprentice.
Other: N/A.

“Very good,” Ashwing replied, nodding her approval. A good warrior knows not to pretend and send us all running in circles. “The wind is blowing from this direction”—she flicked her tail to the West as a breeze filtered through her whiskers—“so we should be able to scent at least traces of anything coming from that way. East—downwind—is probably our best bet.”

(Accepted! Welcome to Moonclan! Something you should know- herbs are slightly different than in most cases, as they live in a colder environment. Catmint doesn't grow there naturally, and no twolegs are around. Instead, they rely on Lavender as a sure greencough help. Spiders don't live well in the cold, moist environment so instead of spiderwebs, they rely on flower petals to stop blood and such. There are other differences I won't include for now, but I'll put together a guidebook for you!)
"Hold on there. Both of you, face west and take a deep breath. Do either of you smell that?" Graymoon said, feeling slightly alarmed at a vaguely familiar scent. She racked her brain, trying to think of what the scent was.

Confused at his leader's alarm, he sniffed in the scent. It didn't seem familiar to him. The tip of his tail flicked.
"I smell it, but. . .I don't really understand." Sparrowpaw said.

Ashwing’s eyes flickered with concern as she mirrored her clanmates and angled her body westward. “There’s definitely something there,” she murmured, the fur prickling uncomfortably along her spine.

(Thank you! I appreciate the heads up. I'll do some research as well to try to find substitutes for herbs that don't grow in cold weather. The territory is more or less a tundra, right? Or does it snow year-round?)
Silverfern is making his way through the forest after collecting dried oak leaves to replenish his supply. Just as he's about to exit the forest, he picks up the scent of his clan mates not far away. He looks up to the sun, "Yeah, I have a bit of extra time." He thinks to himself. Silverfern stealthily stalks his way through the forest, not wanting to disrupt Sparrowpaw's training.
He lifts his muzzle in to the air and catches the scent of fresh-kill on the breeze. "Hunting must have gone well for Sparrowpaw." Silverfern guesses, and closes his blue eyes to recall his first time hunting as a warrior apprentice. He can almost feel the adrenaline coursing through his veins as his mind races to remember pouncing on a small white mouse and holding it up, proud of himself, to his mentor.
Silverfern continues quietly padding through the forest, unaware of the potential danger his clan mates are in. He had just pushed through a particularly thorny bush when he spots the three cats on their haunches, fur bristling. Instinctively his fur begins to bristle as well. Silverfern crouches and slowly starts backing back into the bramble bush to keep watch from a small distance. He places the beech bundle of oak leaves in the safety of the bush, and points his snout to the sky, tasting the scent.

Sparrowpaw crouched in the best hunting position he could muster, eyes wide in caution. He crept forward, following in his leader's pawsteps while his ears were pricked for any unusual sounds or movements. The scent of blood hit his nose and his body froze just for a moment. Graymoon was right about this thing. Whatever it is, it doesn't seem very friendly.
"I wonder what it is. . ." he whispered to his mentor.

While Spiritpaw was following the mouse, she made a little mistake. Which was.. accidentally breaking a twig. She gasped and looked at the mouse. Its ears perked and ran away immediately. This led the small apprentice gulped and let her ears down. "O-Oh no, i lost a prey!" She shakily said as she got anxious and anxious, Spiritpaw couldn't move. Tears swelled through her eyes and began to cry softly.

“I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough,” Ashwing replied darkly, careful to keep her voice low enough to blend with the murmurings of the wind to any unfriendly ears. She felt her mouth go dry at the scent of blood, but she shoved away the nervousness prickling in her chest and dug for the icy battle-clarity that she knew lay somewhere beneath. “What’s the plan, Graymoon?” She whispered, daring a step forward.

“All right,” Ashwing replied, glancing at Sparrowpaw to gauge how the apprentice was feeling. Somethibg like this is enough to make warriors nervous; I’d hate to be in his posiition. “This will be a good training opportunity,” she added confidently, not allowing her voice to tremble. She inclined her head to Graymoon. “I’m ready whenever you are.”

Sparrowpaw was feeling all sorts of things; excitement, fear, anticipation, hesitation, his emotions just keep on growing. Is this what warriors have to deal with after they receive their warrior names? Sparrowpaw can't imagine the kind of life Ashwing must be living! How is she able to keep a level head in these kinds of situations?
The brown tabby made a face aimed at himself. Maybe because she's been a warrior for a while now? So she's bound to get into things like this! You're such a mouse-brain, Sparrowpaw!
He shook his head lightly. Focus! In response to Ashwing, he flicked his ear.
"Whatever it is, I'm sure we can take care of it." he whispered confidentially to his mentor and leader, trying to make sure he's not too loud.
