jus a little two week roleplay to keep me occupied over break. not too heavy commitment-wise. i'll bring one or two of my characters and then we'll jus go from there, i guess. i'm pretty low key, i'd like to think.
Leah readjusted her messenger bag over her shoulder anxiously, she knew the coffee shop would be busy this season but not this late at night! Filing into the line of people waiting, she tugged her long pale blonde hair out from her heavy winter jacket. Her pale blue eyes surveyed the small local shop, it was a nice place, not really meant for lots of people, but the cold weather and the holidays always brought more people. The saying was, "The more the merrier," but that never mixed well with her hatred of crowds.
This was her usual stomping grounds, the family run shop was a comforting place to be, a small fireplace, glass windows to see the streets, and simple black furniture along the wall with tables and chairs in the middle. The lights hung from the tall ceiling, the textured brownish black brick contrasting well with the bright lights. When she stepped to the register she got her usual hot chocolate a strawberry pastry, paying her due amount and dumping the extra change in the cup labelled "tips" she went off to wait by the side for her drink.
---
A tall brunette haired man sat at his table watching as frantic people hurried into the bustling room in need of life's most important drink: coffee. Grinning bemusedly Griffin was glad he had woken up earlier, toying with his own cup of green tea, he wondered if there'd be enough seats for everyone. Subconsciously sizing up the room and its occupants, everyone could probably fit... but people would have to share tables already occupied. It suddenly occurred to him that someone might just plop themselves down across from his very own two seater table. Griffin didn't have anything against strangers, he just didn't really have a thing for chatting it up with them either. Mentally preparing himself if anyone should do such a monstrosity, he pulled out his phone and checked idly Instagram. When in doubt pull out your phone; it deterred most people from making any attempt of interaction.

I'll join in because why not lololol))
Chadwick usually wasn't one to get coffee. He didn't like the taste and the kick was, frankly, a bit underwhelming compared to how people described it. But, after pulling an all-nighter, he figured he would need coffee. Forgoing the festive drinks for now, he settled for a caramel macchiato with five shots, ristretto. If he wanted coffee, he was going to get as much of a kick out of it as he could. With how late in the morning it already was, it wasn't surprising that all the seats had been taken. Chadwick debated just leaving, but it looked as though the wind had picked up and he didn't do well in the cold. So, he took the first seat he could find across from some guy on his phone. If the guy didn't want to interact with him, he wasn't going to go out of his way to make it happen. He was too tired for that.

((my laptop decided to be awful and give up on wifi so when I had a response it poofed away and now I'm sad. so you know, I'm here tho.))
Through his perephial vision he saw a stranger slide into the seat across from him, he daren't look up, eye contact is to be avoided at all costs. Griffin held back a heavy sigh. Of course, of the many seats the person across from him choses his table. He was happy to sit quietly but he couldn't help but squirm with the idea that someone unknown is just across the way. His mom was all about pushing her son to meeting new people. "Who knows, maybe you'll meet someone nice?" she'd always say. Griffin rubbed his free hand on his jeans, thrumming them on the denim. He risked a glance up, it appeared to be a man with coffee. He once again ducked back to face his phone, this time opening Snapchat.

I went out shopping and my phone was being dumb, so you're excused if I am lolol))
Chadwick was so lost in drowning himself in his drink, that he almost didn't notice the man across from him look up. But, when he did, all Chadwick did was offer a small nod of greeting, not taking his drink from his mouth. Chadwick was perfectly content not talking to the guy if he wasn't made to. At least, that was until some couple walking past somehow managed to spill the two holders of drinks they carried all over him and the table. And it was hot, to put it cleanly. He let out a surprised shout and jumped back, already trying to get the coffee off his hands, the only exposed part of his body that had gotten the coffee all over it. "Watch where you're going - that stuff's hot!" God, he had whipped cream all over his pants and coat - he looked like a mess!

((fair enough. ))
Griffin couldn't help but flinch as well when the hot drink spilled across the man across from him. Quickly stuffing his phone in his jeans' back pocket and handing the man opposite to him a napkin, Griffin rose to grab some more paper towels from the men's room. "I'll go grab some more paper towels," he said, grabbing his now empty cup of tea. He aptly shuffled through the crowd, a skill he'd garnered from many months of concerts, and finally faced himself at the door to the men's room. Ducking in he pulled several paper towels from the ejector, and on his way out he tossed his cup in the trash. Griffin once again merged into the crowd of people, carefully maneuvering himself as to not cause another accident. Handing the man a handful of paper towels he let himself sink back into his chair.

Lucia tugged at her pale auburn hair, her pale green eyes somewhat irritated as she made her way into the coffee shop. The mom-and-pop business had always been a source of comfort for her, and now that she was back from college for the time being, it seemed as good a place as any. She glanced around, hanging her trench-coat on the coat hanger right by the door. She blew a damp wave of hair out of her face, making her way to the order line. The cafe seemed to be the same since she left it in the summer. Focused on the prospect of coffee, she accidentally stepped into a puddle of creamer and espresso. She instinctively cursed - quite loudly, actually, then clasped a hand over her mouth. "Sorry," she apologized to the man - or men - in front of her. "I guess i was just focused on the coffee."

((go ahead blaze, the characters are jus chillin in the coffee shop rn, leah's still waiting for her drink, maybe they screwed up her order or something))
Griffin nodded in a 'you're welcome' sort of way and tapped his fingers against the now dry table. Situations involving people always made his fidgeting tendencies worse, resisting the urge to grab his phone he scolded himself. You're the one who opened this door of conversation, you should at least follow through. Being drawn out of his thoughts by a quiet splash and a string of curses snorted. "Not to worry" Griffin told the woman with a wry smile, "it's not like I haven't heard it before."

Lucia smiled, slightly flushed with embarrassment, at the man’s nonchalance. “I’ve been around my nieces too much,” she explained, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. She looked more closely at the man. Something about him was familiar. “I feel like I know you,” she mused, tapping her lip in frustration. Her expression cleared as she finally realized who he was. “Griffin!” She exclaimed, self-consciously tugging at her casual v-neck shirt. When the woman was younger, she’d had a massive crush on the man in front of her. “I’m Alex’s twin sister,” she explained, knowing he’d remember his childhood best friend, aka her brother.

Griffin chuckled at her comment, young children always had people scrambling to cover their very ah... unprofessional tendencies. He himself included. When she mentioned that they knew each other he couldn't put his finger on it but once she reintroduced herself, Griffin remembered her. Oh yes, those were the days, Alex and himself and occasionally Lucia would go out into the woods of his backyard and get lost just playing in the underbrush. Those were simpler times. She'd grown a lot, as most people did when you haven't seen them for ages, but she always did strike him as different when he was little, she'd always make him a little more accident prone with her presence. Now having experienced it on several occasions he could place this as a crush. "Ah yeah!" he exclaimed piecing it together, "Lucia right?"

Lucia beamed as she saw Griffin recognize her. He had grown a lot, as people were wont to do, and she found herseflf musing at how much more secure and confident he seemed. It was quite attractive, til Lucia had to tell herself that she had a somewhat serious boyfriend back at college. “Yeah,” she nodded, deciding she should probably sit next to him. She set her laptop and binders near her seat, and looked at him with interest in her warm brown gaze. (Changed her eye color for sake of RP profile pic) “So what’ve you been up to?” She asked, running through a list of what she’d done ever since she last saw the man in what was it? Three years, two? She couldn’t remember.

Griffin shifted to accommodate her, smiling at meeting a friend. "Isn't that the million dollar question," he said letting a grin play on his lips, looking up to the ceiling. Digging back in his memory he thought of going to work at a construction site carting around heavy beams and then crashing in his room at his parents'. Griffin was never really a school kid, never really for the classic learning, he learned best by trial by fire. Much to his mom's disappointment he'd be staying in the small town for a while, picking up odd jobs, but somehow scraping by moneywise. "Most of the times I'm working, I help out on construction sites, moving all the heavy stuff." He jokingly flexed his biceps, couldn't help but laughing a bit. "Yourself? How's Ms. Lucia getting along? College, right?"

Drake had never been the kind of guy to enjoy coffee, or staying on one place for long periods of time. Even if that place was a simple coffee shop, to wait for a drink. He now found himself in line, fidgeting impatiently while he waited for the line to move. Normally, he wouldn't have even bothered to grab a drink here, but it was frigid outside and Drakes didn't do good if left out in the cold for too long. And being left out in the cold for too long was exactly what he would be doing this evening.
Eventually, he was at the front of the line and he ordered himself a simple hot chocolate with a shot of coffee in it. Hey, he needed to stay awake, but the taste of straight coffee was absolutely disgusting unless it was drowned under ounces of delicious chocolate. He pulled cash, change, and a couple balls of lint out of his pocket and dropped it on the counter to start counting it all out, pushing penny after dime across the counter until he finished counting out his money. He then pushed the extra cash back into his pocket and moved out of his way to stand and wait for his drink. Waiting... again... how joyful.
Of course, he did find himself waiting next to a girl. Drake was quiet for a moment, perhaps in a war inside his mind on whether or not he should speak up and just say hello. Great things could happen to a person if they just said hello to strangers in a coffee shop, and Drake did love saying hello to people and basically making friends wherever he could. Finally, he looked to her, smiling as he did so, and held out a hand that was clothed in an old fingerless glove with a few holes in it. "Hello, I'm Drake. What brings you here on this fine evening?" He asked, smiling as he introduced himself. His pale silvery-blue eyes shimmering with happiness because, well, Drake was almost always a very happy person.

Lucia listened to Griffin intently, her lips curled into a soft smile. She'd never pinned the dark-haired man as a traditional academic type, and it turned out she was right to guess he hadn't gone to college. "Yeah," she agrred, pleased he'd remembered. "Isn't that the million dollar question," she echoed playfully, toying with the bracelet on her wrist. She thought back to the past three years; they'd been eventful. "I've gone to school in Boston," she rested her head on her hand, thinking. "This past semester I was a sort of exchange student in the Philippines." Her eyes lit up, and tilted her head. "Oh! You might want to know this. Alex is getting married next spring."

((come on in intransigent! i suppose i should probably stick that in the title, i can make another character or you can hop in with leah or griffin.))
As she waited for her coffee Leah watched the baristas in awe. Leah knew that this was their job but keeping track of so many different things all at once was something Leah could never do. It was almost like a dance to her, she came and got her hot chocolate every day at this place, but different orders of drinks required different ingredients and different steps to the dance. Her drink was always more simple, usually taking only a few moments, but with all the people she'd been ushered to waiting a bit longer.
Waiting never really was easy, by herself or with others. It was embarrassing to her really, she could never put her finger on why but it made her squirm. Knowing the reward was worth it though she forced herself to stay put a bit longer. As the cups lined up behind hers and hers edged closer to the barista, someone said something to her. Turning to face the person it was a man introducing himself. "Hi, I'm Leah," she replied, "I'm just here for my daily coffee run." She brushed back a blonde hair to look up to find his face, being 4'11" had its perks but social interaction with even average height people, was not one of them.
---
Griffin relaxed falling into the routine at the common mannerisms of his childhood friend. Some people just gave off an aura of familiarity, childhood friends were often most of them. Boston... Philippines,he thought to himself taking it all in, eyebrows rising. That was quite a journey. From this small town in Missouri to Boston. "Wait... sort of exchange student? As in not a full exchange student?" he asked finally pulling his senses back together. "And hold up, Alex --marriage?!" Griffin sputtered. "I'm going to need something strong than tea." Griffin put his hands together, readying himself for the oncoming stories.

[ ahahah thanks Cx i’ll just jump in as that’s prob the easiest thing to do! ]
Charlotte was about ready to stick her head under the crusher that ground up fresh coffee beans every morning. The holiday season was the absolute worst, with exams and whatnot happening, and she hated all these angry people coming in that just wanted their coffee and none of the Christmas spirit that came with it.
She ran from machine to machine, filling orders and scribbling names. She was just about at wit’s end when the couple dumped their entire set of drinks just as she was due to go on break. She groaned, stompig to the back and leaving Antonio to fill the rest, grabbing the mop and bucket and trudging over to the spill, grumbling unhappily to herself.
Charlie was tall, slender, with dark skin and short, curly hair that did whatever it wanted-much like herself. She carried herself regally, with a certain elegance that came with the length of her body and limbs, but she scowled with all the temperament of a cranky child in need of a nap. Charlie could use a nap, she decded, slapping the mop against the ground and getting to work at the sticky mess, toned arms pushing the mop around with ease.

Griffin nodded to the employee in thanks, even though she appeared to be grumpy. Understandably so, working in this chaos sounded awful. He was glad he got out of these kinds of places where interacting with people was a must all the time. Griffin appreciated people who did things when they didn't really feel up to it, people who followed through with their promises and jobs were what made the world go round. "I think we got most of it but it's still probably sticky." he informed her.

Lucia laughed, twisting a lock of ginger hair with her finger. “It sounds crazy when you put it like that,” she admitted, tucking the wave behind a multi-pierced ear. It was a good thing the hair hid it; her mother would kill her if she saw her daughter’s ear, though she only had two earrings in. “My college has a mini campus in the Philippines, so I got to study and learn some of the culture there,” she explained, her brown eyes softening as she remembered the kind people there and the welcoming atmosphere they had given her. “And yeah, I couldn’t believe Alex got engaged either,” she laughed, pulling up her phone to show Griffin a picture of her twin brother and his fiancé. “Met her in first year of college, and they’ve been together ever since,” she shrugged. “I’m sure he would tell you eventually.” She looked around though she knew her brother couldn’t possibly be there, a glint of mischief in her eyes. “I think you’re supposed to be his best man, though he was supposed to tell you that himself.”
(Ooh what Griffin is best man and she’s maid of honor and they have to walk down the aisle together?)

Drake frowned. "Daily coffee run, huh? Are you in college or something? Or do you just enjoy the taste of... of..." He paused, trying to think of a clever way to describe the disgusting taste of coffee, but was disappointed to realize he had nothing. "Of... coffee? Although I can't imagine anyone enjoying it." Coffee seemed more like a necessity for the majority of people. They drank it to wake up. Drake, on the other hand, simply drank hot chocolate and let it do the same thing. Although, he was definitely drinking it more for the joy of liquid chocolate than to wake up.
He watched one of the baristas roll a mop bucket over to where someone had spilled coffee earlier. That had to be annoying to clean up. Drake felt bad for them and, while he watched the poor girl for another moment, he ran a hand through his black hair, pushing it out of his eyes a bit better. Of course, his attention soon turned back to Leah and he smiled down at her. He wasn't terribly tall, only about 5'7", but he felt a lot taller standing beside her.

Charlie didn’t realize that the man at the table near her was talking to her until about five seconds into the girl’s statement about some marriage. She blushed, though it was hardly noticeable beneath her dark skin, before clearing her throat, face becoming more friendly and open.
”Oh no, you’re fine! You didn’t have to do that, really,” she said, looking a little flustered and unsure of herself, biting her lip nervously.

((ooh drama drama! i like that. doesn't the bride choose the maid of honor though?)) ((and yes yes they are indeed high key flirting. i'll bring out one of my older characters.))
"Don't worry about it," Griffin said easily, waving a hand vaguely, "I've been told to keep places clean when I visit. So, thanks!" Griffin was never very good with passing conversations.
Turning back to Lucia, Griffin listened attentively slowly putting together a timeline of events. Griffin and Alex had been in the same grade, though Griffin was slightly older and honestly could've gone to school earlier. So when Griffin got his job at construction he'd had to say goodbye to his childhood friend Alex and Lucia, sending them off to college. "Fancy, fancy, look at you!" he exclaimed. "Well I'd be the natural choice, of course, he daren't consider another," he posed flipping his hair a bit with an winning smile.
---
Leah let out a small laugh, enjoying his sentiments on coffee. "Oh don't worry, I'm not one of those." Gesturing to her cup marked 'hot choc.' She brushed a strand of blonde hair out of her face absentmindedly as she began to explain, "I misspoke, I drink hot chocolate, coffee isn't my style --I like to think I'm not bitter enough for it." She shuffled her feet, uncomfortable as people always had to, quite literally, look down at her. She turned to face the baristas, one now grabbing her cup to make the hot chocolate.
---
Dakota rushed into the small shop, hazel eyes searching for her friend Charlie. She knew that she often ended up working after hours but she always felt bad showing up late anyways. Hanging up her jacket on the rack, she found Charlie mopping up a mess of spilled coffee. Dakota's dark brown hair was sticking up from the static as she combed through her high with her fingers. Stepping in line to pick up some coffee, she pulled out her wallet to check out how much cash she had. The answer was not much, deciding on just snagging a cookie, she stepped up to the register to order.
((whew that's a lot of people. i'm gonna poof for a while, jus running to grab some stuff i should be back soon??? if not all the characters can form a conspiracy against griffin. ))

Charlie finshed up with a nod at the man before heading to the back, grinning at Dakota. She took her apron off, heading out and sliding up next to the girl and flashing her employee rewards card up on the counter.
”The usual, for us both,” interjected, snatching up the cookie and setting it down, adding to the order. She grinned at Dakota, dark eyes glinting happily before leading her over to a now deserted table. ”What’s new girl?” she lounged, slouching in her seat with a gotan, glad to be off her feet for once in several hours.

Dakota's jaw dropped as Charlie smoothly got herself and Dakota a drink, "Oh my goodness, Charlie!" Dakota quickly weighed her case against Charlie's. "You didn't have to do that!" she exclaimed, pulling back the cookie wrapper and digging in, whilst shoving the prepared dollar across the table to her. Dakota never really was great with money, but nowadays she'd been forcing herself to try. She at least wanted to pay for her cookie --it was a really yummy cookie too.
((edit:: ugh I hate that pic for Dakota, it's hard to put the character to a live person's face, bc I know what it looks like I just have to find it. sorry))

Drake was absolutely thrilled with this information, and he let out a relieved sigh. "Oh good. I thought you were one of those coffee people." He said, as if it was a bad thing, but he laughed as he said so. "I'm getting hot chocolate, too. Like, with a little bit of coffee for that pick me up, but enough chocolate that I won't even notice." He explained, frowning as he admitted that he was drinking some coffee. "So... uh... come here often?" Well obviously, but what other icebreakers were there?
