Ceridwen had to admit to herself that Orion's response was amusing. It was exactly how she would have responded, minus the calmness. She would have shot back a retort in response if she had been the one answering such a question. Ten points to the werewolf, she supposed. Despite how calm his response was, Ceridwen couldn't match the tone. She found herself getting somewhat fired up - then again, it wasn't hard for something to get her going.
"Ya know, I'm more than just some human. And..." She faltered for a moment, trying to pull at more reasons as to why she should be welcomed here for more than just the fact that she was Akela's mate. "I have my own ancestors in these woods," she shot back. The redhead was finding herself using more wolf terminology this time around. What she said though wasn't a complete lie. She had many family members that had passed away while the woods had belonged to them. Some were buried underneath the boughs of weeping willows or towering oaks. Some were buired nearby thick holly bushes or huckleberries. Some were freshly buried among weeds and peaty soil.
Silence fell over the group now that Ceridwen had said what she had wanted to say. She huffed, eyeing Orion, anticipating his next statement or question; whatever he was going to through at her, she would be ready. She didn't want to get into a full-blown argument with the wolf, but she was going to make sure he knew that she was more than just some human. She was a powerful ice mage, the next in line to be Archmage.

Part of him wanted to know what she was playing at. Was she trying to prove something? To him, it was enough that she was even being allowed to stay. He could’ve easily decided to remove her, although he was sure that the loner would protest. Maybe use the voice. Nothing was ever quite certain with him. At least, not right now; he didn’t know much about him yet.
The red headed human was speaking once more, and it didn’t take much to refocus on her. More than just a human? Well her scent told that, but the base scent said human. He had never met any mages in his time, so he wouldn’t know the smell of magic unless somebody were to tell him. So for now, as far as he cared, she was just a human. However, mention of her own ancestors in the woods caught his attention.
But so did her mate’s reaction.
Akela looked away, a quiet huff escaping him. He was tense now and very obviously unwilling to participate in the conversation. It was an interesting reaction... so what did he know about her ancestors? “As interesting as that sounds, it seems your mate seems to disagree. Perhaps he’d like to enlighten us.”
Akela’s head snapped towards the protector, a nasty glare adorning his features. This was in no way the place or time to speak on what he was thinking. Her ancestors were far from his favorite people - they’d stolen what had belonged to his own ancestors because they’d thought they were all that and more. By now it wasn’t registering that he was beginning to emit a low growl. The topic was one of the few that sent him straight to near blind rage.

Okay, she messed up a bit there.
Ceridwen narrowed her eyes, glaring right at Orion. "He doesn't have to tell you anything," Ceridwen snapped. Mentioned her ancestors had certainly not been the smartest move on her part, but what was done was done. She couldn't take back what she had said moments earlier. Not all of her ancestors had been horrible people, but most had. Most of her ancestors had killed and destroyed Akela's pack throughout generations of endless bloodshed. It had been mages against werewolves for centuries, and eventually the mages had won. Eventually Akela's pack had been wiped out. Ceridwen wasn't proud of her ancestors for that. She could be proud of them for other things, but certainly not for what they had done to werewolves.
The growing tension seemed to have attracted some attention. From the corner of her eye Ceridwen could make out movement outside the shelter. By the looks of it a flash of a white wolf passed by, swiftly followed by that of a cream pelt. The mage shook her head. Now wasn't the time to get distracted by the other pack members.
Before she could say anything else about the matter, the soft voice of Emily piped up. She looked weary, afraid that something might happen if nobody stepped in. "No prying, Orion. Akela will tell us certain things in his own time."

The glare he received from the alpha’s mate didn’t affect him much. No, what was grating him was the glare accompanied by the growing sound of anger from the alpha himself. It was a little unsettling, and part of him wanted to react to it. Still, he didn’t fail to respond to Ceridwen. “He will eventually. The packs safety more or less depends on it.” If a previous threat had the possibility of returning, he needed to know. It was his job to know these things, and with the alpha’s lack of cooperation, his job was now much harder.
A flash of white and cream pelts caught his attention for the briefest of moments before Emily spoke up. The tension was just rising and he was more ham willing to admit that he was the cause. Still, he wanted his answers even though it seemed he wouldn’t be getting them today. Emily drew his attention next, and he gave a reluctant nod.
Another time, he presumed.
Akela, on the other hand, was still on edge despite how Orion seemed to drop the topic. It wasn’t something that he could just drop very easily, and he had a feeling he’d be getting some odd looks when he left. Surely the others could tel what kind of vibe the group was emanating right now. There was no way that they didn’t know, at this point. Still, whatever sound he was creating ceased, though he glared at the protector for a moment longer. He was persistent... it needed to stop. At least, with his past, anyways. With a stubborn refusal to relax, he turned his gaze to Emily. “I’m sorry for the lack of answers. Please know that I’ve taken care of all safety measures.” He sounded tense and he could hear it in his own voice. “Is there anything else that needs to be taken care of?”

If she were a wolf as was well she would be growling. Orion seemed like an okay guy until he opened his mouth. He probably thought the same of Ceridwen, but what did that matter? He could think of her however he wanted - see if she cared about it. But when it came to him threatening Akela or throwing any sort of shade toward the lone alpha Ceridwen was bound to have a problem with it. So badly did she wanted to snap the Orion, but she actually managed to hold her tongue. It took a lot of willpower to do so, but the mage was somehow able to do it. Maybe it was the thought of not wanting to upset Emily anymore than she already seemed to be that helped Ceridwen curb her temper. For now at least.
Tension was still in the air, but it was slowly simmering down. Ceridwen could see the expectant mother visibly relax as the air cleared. Emily sighed, closing her eyes for a moment before opening them once more, blue eyes locked on Akela. ”I trust that you will keep this land safe. I see no reason for you to honor yourself as a liar.” Ceridwen liked that response. At least Emily seemed to understand that Akela was as good as any werewolf could get. As good as any living being could get. He wouldn’t let anything happen to this pack.
There was a stretch of silence for a moment. Something subtle seemed to happen with Emily, the faintest of nods or motions it seemed. Whatever it was, Ceridwen barely noticed it, unable to decipher anything; it must have been a silent invitation as within seconds a new wolf entered the make shift shelter. His muscles were taught underneath his cream fur. They rippled and pulled against him as he sat down, attention on Akela. ”I suggest this loner stay for the night at least. If he wants to help, he needs to see how we work as a pack, and if he’ll be integrated as our alpha, well, we need to see if he’s a right fit for us.” The wolf left it at that, glancing between Akela and Orion as if they had the most say in this.

Had there been any futher probing it probably wouldn't have ended well. Sure, he was probably just doing his job, but the fact that he couldn't just let this one thing alone was more than irritating. And he'd brought Ceridwen into it. That needed to stop. Although, he was sure she would take of that, as she was never one to back down from anything. Even still, that just added to the anger that was bubbling inside him. Part of him wanted to lash out both physically and verbally. He could feel the familiar tingle of past alpha running just under the skin, merely waiting for him to the use the voice or shift or something. But he didn't, Instead he remained tense, unwilling to even make the jump from nails to claws as he usually did because he was still holding Ceridwen's hand.
Instead, he turned his attention to the expectant she-wolf. It wasn't good to be stressing her out like this. Frowning a little, Akela directed his energy to trying to calm down. He could feel the energy of the alphas slowly ebbing out of him, and for a brief moment, he wondered if alpha's who went through the ritual felt their energy all the time, if it just became a permanent part of them. The thought was fleeting, though, as he noticed Emily seemed to be more relaxed than just moments before. Good.
When she spoke up, Akela only gave a slight nod. "Thank you." It was nice to know that at least one of them would take him at his word. He wasn't the type to go back on his word, and he definitely wasn't the type to give less than what he'd promised.
Afterwards, in the silence, three things seemed to happen. The last bit of tension fled the shelter, a wolf sat themselvse at the entrance, and Emily invited them in without so much as a word. This all happened in a very short amount of time, not that he minded, but it was still interesting. Giving a fellow packmate such a signal while they're outside the shelter and having it be understood was actually pretty cool. Eyes turning to the newcomer - Bracken, if he was correct - most attention went to him. When the suggestion was put out there, the alpha just kind of stared for a moment. Stay the night? Did he even have time for that? As far as he was concerned, he was still on punishment. After a moment passed, Akela looked towards Ceridwen.
Orion, on the other hand, found this to be a logical idea. If the loner was to be integrated into the pack in any way, shape, or form, he needed to know what kind of group he was coming into. Everyone already had their rooles despite the fact that they'd lost most of their members. He gave a slight nod, looking to the loner and his mate before looking to Emily. As far as he was concerned, she had the last say. She wasn't authoritative in the slightest, she in his eyes, she was still the alpha's mate. That put her in charge.
Akela on the otherhand, was partially unsure. He had no problem with staying, but he was sure the pack would be opposed to letting his mate stay alongside him. As it stood, if he were to be their alpha, then she'd be beside him. By that logic, didn't she need to know how the pack worked as well? Biting the inside of his cheek momentarily, he gave a slow nod. "I would just have to settle a few things at home first..." He wanted a proper release for his previous anger, had to see what would be done about his chores, and try then see if Ceridwen would stay the night with him.

Stay the night? They wanted Akela to stay the night? While it seemed like a good idea, especially if the pack intended on integrating Akela into it, something about it just didn’t settle right with Ceridwen. Perhaps it was the fact that they were suggesting him to stay by himself. Akela could very well take care of himself, Ceridwen knew that. This was also land he was very familiar with, and if something were to go wrong he could very easily use that to his advantage. But even with those thoughts in mind, Ceridwen just didn’t feel like Akela should stay on his own. There was also the fact that Akela was a busy person. Could he even afford to stay the night with the pack? And what about Cherry? That poor gryphon was probably trying so hard to find the werewolf. There were also the chores with the gryphons and whatnot… But, in the end, it was up to Akela on whether or not he stayed with them overnight. Ceridwen would support any decision he made.
She noticed the look Akela gave her. She shifted ever so slightly on her feet. At the end of it all it was Akela’s and the pack’s decision. The pack seemed to enjoy the idea of Akela staying the night, so Ceridwen had a good idea as to what their answer was in all of this. Even Orion seemed to agree with this idea.
Emily soon spoke up. ”I think the idea is a good one. Of course, the final say is up to Akela.” The way she said the words made it sound like she was opening it up for Akela to say whatever he liked, to request whatever he liked as well. She nodded when he mentioned getting somethings settled, perhaps taking it as a confirmation that he would stay overnight. Ceridwen still wasn’t entirely sure on him staying by himself.
Silently she shot him a look, a question in her green eyes. She wanted to ask Akela what his true thoughts on this were, but she held herself back. Once they were out of earshot of the pack she would for sure ask all the question she had currently on her mind.

It wasn't often that he stayed the night in places he didn't call home. He especially didn't like spending the night in a place he didn't call home alone. It wasn't particularly comfortable for him, and part of him just didn't want to. Yes, he needed to know how the pack worked, but why did this suddenly require spending the night? Couldn't he find time during the day to do this? Even the mere idea of leaving his home for even just a night made him want to shy away. For him, this proposal wasn't ideal.
He still had a lot to do considering that he was still on punishment, and now the gryphon, and there was no way he was completely willing to risk having a meltdown in front of the pack in the middle of the night. Especially since they wouldn't know how to make it stop. Ceridwen knew how to make it stop, but part of him felt as though she wouldn't be allowed to remain at his side tonight if he agreed to stay. It already seemed that they were suspicious of her, and for Akela to ask that she stay with him during the night could easily start something. But he needed her, as much as he hated to admit needing anybody, to be somewhat close to him during the night. They didn't neccessarily have to be in the same room, but he had to be able to get to her if he needed or wanted to. By now, it wasn't often that he was alone at night, and he'd managed to get quite used to that. He was also unwilling to give it up.
When Emily spoke on the idea itself, Orion only gave a light nod as his eyes went back to the lone alpha and his mate. He seemed a bit unsure of the proposal, as if he didn't truly want to stay. Or maybe he didn't want to stay alone. That was understandable, he presumed. While he himself hadn't quite experienced such a feeling, but he found that it happened often in others. While he was confident in this assumption of feeling, he wondered why the loner said nothing of it. Instead he just said that he had things to settle before he could stay the night. Why not speak up? Was there some sort of response he was worried about recieving?
Frowning a little, dark honey eyes went to the redhead instead. There was a question in her eyes for her mate. The non-verbal question recieved a barely-noticeable shrug. An odd response, though he figured they had things to speak about once they departed. That wouldn't be unfair, considering this was all happening a bit suddenly. Maybe at this point he was just being nosey, but he wanted to know what they might talk about on the way back to their home. What if the alpha didn't really want to stay the night? Or maybe he did, but he wanted his mate there as well? Or perhaps something else... Well, the protector would find out eventually.
Akela looked towards the pack once more, unsure of what he was actually going to do. The lupine definitely need to speak with Ceridwen on the topic, however he figured it kind of owed it to them. Actually, part of him felt as though he didn't truly have a choice in the matter. That could've very easily been his guilt speaking to him, however. Even still, it was good enough idea that he figured he could go with it. After rearranging everything, of course. So, he gave a slow nod. "It'll probably be a few hours before I can come back... There's honestly a lot that has to get taken care of, but I can stay."

Not that it was a surprise or anything, but Ceridwen was quick to find that she couldn't hold everything back.
Ceridwen stepped forward, closer to Orion. She looked to him and then to the wolf who had suggested that Akela stay the night. Much like her mate - it honestly felt nice to know what to call Akela now - she was used to sleeping beside him. She found it comforting to be with him as she slept, and if she wasn't with him, then he was close enough to her. Call her attached or perhaps even obsessed, but she wasn't going to let Akela do this on his own. She had come to that conclusion within a frame of only a few seconds. "I'm staying if Akela's staying," she stated firmly. Any wolf that challenged her would be met with her fire.
Of course, she didn't go unchallenged.
The first wolf to stand up to her was the cream-furred one. He rose to his paws, fur bristling with unease. "It's a lot as it is having the lone alpha stay with us. Letting in some odd-smelling human would be too much," he chuffed.
"Human or not, I'm Akela's mate. Where he goes, I go." There was no way Ceridwen was going to back down now. She had given in to her impulse and wasn't going to stop now.
Bracken turned to Orion, seeming to want the other wolf in on this. What was interesting was that he didn't speak toward Emily. Perhaps Orion was more of an alpha than the expectant mother. "What do you propose? Should the human stay as well?" Bracken's answer was obvious. He was opposed to having Ceridwen stay.
Ceridwen, of course, was adamant about staying. She narrowed her eyes, glancing between Bracken and Orion. "If I can't stay, then Akela can't, either."
"You can't dictate what an alpha does or does not do," Bracken shot back without hesitation.
The ice mage shrugged. She knew that Akela could do whatever he wanted, she allowed him to have free will. If he wanted to stay, then she wasn't going to stop him, but she had to throw something out there. There had to be an incentive thrown out to the pack so that they would at least consider her being there overnight. "I have more of an influence over Akela as his mate than a strange pack does."
It was there that Bracken fell quiet. He seemed ready to argue some more, but he held back despite how hard it probably was for him. He and Ceridwen both waited in a tense silence for either Orion or Akela to speak, wondering how they would react to the small argument between werewolf and mage.

Was she going to challenge him on something? It wasn't like he'd said much since the previous challenge to his words, so what was it now? Perhaps it was a general statement on the alpha's overnight stay. Emily, despite how he often looked to her, just wasn't authoritative. Surely even a human could tell as much. As it stood, he was likely the calmest person in the vicinity, and he'd been proposed as stand-in alpha once. He'd refused for this specific reason. His job wasn't to make decisions, his job was to make sure any possible threats were eliminated swiftly and without notice. That was his job, and he was very particular about keeping it that way.
Sadly, it seemed the others were not. It seemed the redheaded human was intent on turning to him with any sort of challenging statements. When she stated that she stated if the loner stayed, Orion didn't respond at all. No change of face, no verbal response, nothing. As far as he was concerned, it wasn't his say. Technically, the loner had the most say here. Akela's schedule was being completely interrupted by the pack, and he was sure Emily would simply just agree with whatever he asked for if it meant that he was staying the night. Although, he'd seemed reluctant to ask for anything. Maybe guilt kept his mouth shut? It was likely, based on his behavior.
Akela, on the other hand, should've expected such a statement from the mage. A tiny part of him had, but most of him hadn't been thinking of such a thing. He'd been thinking of what to do with Cherry because he'd left the room for barely a minute and the gryphon was screeching as loud as it's little lungs could manage. What the hell would the creature do if he wasn't there for a full night?
Ceridwen's statement drew him back in though, and he managed a slight nod. He'd been mostly reluctant to request such a thing, but he seriously needed her out here with him if he was truly meant to spend the night with the pack. Brown optics turned to Bracken as he bristled and came back with a denial of the request. He tensed, unsure what this situation would turn into. Bristling was never good, and he knew that Ceridwen's temper could easily get the best of her.
Just like clockwork, Ceridwen had a response. When the wolf turned towards the protector and questioned his stance, Akela couldn't help but frown a little. "Guys-" He didn't get out much more as his mate spoke up. He likely wouldn't get a word in until they both shut up, which he didn't really see happening. Even still, he did agree with her - they were most definitely a package deal.
The protector let the question go unanswered for the time being in favor of observing the tense exchange to its end. They both made some decent points. In their culture, a human was nothing to an alpha, mate or not. She really had no say in what the loner chose to do. However, he felt it safe to assume that the pair had already forged some sort of dynamic that they didnt' want to stray from. Which was totally fair. Even still, it would be a bit much to have both Akela and his mate stay, and the small pack already had enough on their plate as it was. However, she was the alpha's mate, and if Akela was integrated as such....
Oh, they stopped.
It seemed that Bracken and the alpha's mate were done with their little squabble. They were likely awaiting some sort of response. One look at the alpha told him that he didn't know how to respond without setting them off once more. Well then, he supposed he'd take charge. "Akela, would you like her to stay alongside you?"
"Yes." The answer came immediately. No, the alpha hadn't expected the question, but he always knew the answer.
With a nod, Orion looked back to Bracken. "She stays. As the alpha's mate she is also a prospect member of the pack and must know how we operate." As of right now, it seemed like he was the one giving the final decision, and he loathed it. Still, somebody had to do it.

There. It was settled. Ceridwen was going to stay.
She couldn’t help herself as she threw a smug look over at Bracken. The wolf raised his lips ever so slightly, barely managing to flash off his sharp fangs. Like he would be dumb enough to do anything with most of the pack watching. Besides, Akela’s and Orion’s words both seemed like they were the law now. No matter what the mage was going to be staying with the pack tonight.
Triumph made her giddy, like even her subconscious self wanted to rub this victory into Bracken’s face. She reached out to take Akela’s hand, green eyes shining with this win; however, before she could comment on it, Emily actually spoke back up for once.
The former alpha’s mate looked around before her gaze stopped on the cream-furred wolf. ”You and Quail get beds ready for our guests tonight. Orion, could you go out and look for Gwendolyn?” At the mention of her sister worry seeped into her words. Ceridwen had no idea who this Gwendolyn person was, but she knew for sure that it was somebody important to Emily.
”I would offer a scout to escort you back home, but you know these woods better than we do,” Emily commented as she looked back to Akela. Her worry had turned into amusement. ”Either way, I wish you swift travels back to gather your things.”
Ceridwen was liking this Emily girl a lot more than the other wolves she had seen so far. Orion was okay, she supposed. A bit tart, though. Perhaps a bit too much like her. Shaking the thought away, she once again looked to Akela.
”Ready?” She asked softly. The trip back to the palace wouldn’t take them long, but it would be enough time for Ceridwen and Akela to be alone and perhaps converse about anything that needed to be said away from the prying ears of the pack.

He didn't particularly expect for Orion to make the final decision. The wolf seemed more like an informant rather than a decision maker, but still, he was happy with the decision. The idea of sleeping somewhere without his mate near was far less than ideal, so to have the other agree with them was wonderful. Although, judging by the way Bracken looked, it seemed he was unhappy with it. But that was to be expected seeing as he was the one who had opposed to the idea originally. Well, he'd just have to deal with it at this point.
Glancing between Ceridwen and the cream wolf, however, Akela couldn't help but frown a little. He really wanted everyone to get along if he were to join the pack. The hostility between the two wouldn't fly with him, not for long anyways. Maybe it was just because of the present situation, though. Releasing a short puff of air through his nose, he instead observed Orion. It wasn't as if the protector was hostile, but he wasn't one to back down, either. Any sort of dynamic with him would surely be interesting.
A hand in his quickly drew his attention, and the alpha turned to grin at the mage. A good night together out here would be awesome. The former alpha's mate drew his attention. As she offered out directions, he looked at the two members of the pakc accordingly. Gwendolyn. Right, he hadn't even seen her since they showed up. Was she out hunting or something? Huh...
Orion gave a nod towards Emily. Gwendolyn had been out for quite awhile now, and honestly he was surprised that she hadn't returned yet. He gave a quick nod of farwell to the loner and his mate, as well as Bracken before he exited the shelter. As soon as he was out, he shifted and was off.
Back in the shelter, Akela was smiling once more at Emily's comment. "I appreciate the offer either way," he murmured. "We'll be back soon."
Looking to his mate once more, he gave a nod to her question. "Yeah, let's go."

Ceridwen had to admit that she felt pretty accomplished right now. She had stood her ground against an entire pack of werewolves. Sure, the pack was small and not every were had been against her, but it was still something to note. She had gotten her way without getting into a fight. The redhead had to admit that she was growing as a person, usually she would have tried to fight. In all honesty that wouldn’t have been a good idea on her part. She was actually starting to rationalize and think in a level-headed manner. Good going, Ceridwen.
She smiled as she glanced at Akela. She nodded. ”Lead the way,” she murmured. Akela knew these woods better than she did, at least the paths and different turns and twists that would take them back to the palace the quickest. Ceridwen could get them back if she wanted, but it would end up taking forever and much too long; it was best if the expert on these woods lead the way back.

Saying he was proud was an understatement. When he’d first met Ceridwen it seemed that violence was her main answer. They hadn’t met on the best terms, but even still. This situation had been rather tense, but she kept her cool rather well and he couldn’t help but be proud. The feeling sparkled in his eyes for a few moments before his attentions were diverted to something else.
With a response, Akela nodded and led her out of the shelter. It wasn’t long before they were well on their way back to the palace, and the lupine found himself releasing a sigh. ”I don’t have time for this - I don’t like simply observing something to see how it works.” They were out of earshot by now, so the he felt that it would be fine to voice what he’d failed to previously. And there was a lot of that. ”I can’t remember a time I just sat back and watched. I don’t like it, I don’t like doing nothing. The hell am I supposed to do if they just want me to see how they work? And what about Cherry?”

Only a few minutes after the pair had left, Orion trotted into their temporary territory with the black wolf in tow. The pair slowed to a stop just besides the shelter, the protector relaying information with minimal words before heading off once more to do something else.
The alpha and his mate were staying? The alpha was mated? Interesting. Although, Gwendolyn was more concerned about the fact that he still refused to speak on the previous threat. She respected his decision, of course, but that didn’t make it any less bothersome. Her second concern was that the alpha’s mate was a human - she’d never met a human that was fond of their species. Thankfully, she also hadn’t met one that hated them to the point of attack. Regardless, it would be interesting to have the two stay the night.

Even before now, deep down, Ceridwen had felt that Akela would have problems with what the pack had proposed. If she herself had had a problem that big then she would have tried putting her foot down, and she knew Akela would have done the same, but he was better at picking which battles to fight and which battles to stand down from. He had chosen to stand down from this one. That was something Ceridwen admired in the werewolf. He could be more rational than she could, and that was something the redhead was trying to work on. She had done a good job today, but who was to say she wouldn’t slip up some other time and get herself into something she could have avoided?
”Maybe see if they’ll let you get involved with something,” the mage suggested. ”You know the territory way more than they do. Show them around, get involved that way. They seem willing to show you how their pack works, but they may trust you more if you help them out in little ways.” That all seemed to make sense to Ceridwen. Surely the pack wouldn’t be able to turn down what was pretty much a free tour of the woods.
As for the gryphon… ”Bring Cherry there.” Maybe not the best idea, but it was what popped into the mage’s head. ”Or give Cherry a piece of your clothing or something, then it might be comforted by your scent.” She was just throwing ideas out there, but at least it was something.
