While he couldn’t quite gauge her reaction, the lupine was sure that Ceridwen was a little disappointed. She’d seemed so ready to bond with one of the creatures, but it just hadn’t happened. But maybe it would. There were still two other hatchlings, and a few of the younger ones hadn’t imprinted on anybody. With everything that had just happened, maybe she hadn’t gotten a good look at them yet. And she still had time. He was sure she would receive her own gryphon.
Akela, while he wanted to see them, didn’t really look at the other two gryphons. Rather, he took to studying the one he’d bonded with. It seemed more interested staying near him rather than near the brooder. To him it was odd, though it seemed to make sense. His short train of thought was interrupted as the mage spoke up he didn’t quite respond to the first statement, but gave a low hum of agreement when she said she’d get one soon. She definitely would, no doubt.
When the question of the name came up, however, Akela gave an odd shrug. ”Hm... Somethin’ with Cherry in it.” Definitely something with cherry in it.
——-
It didn’t take long for the wolf to reach the new territory. He didn’t bother stopping, instead immediately searching for the loner’s scent. It took maybe ten minutes, but find it he did. Sadly, it was starting to go stale. It’d like been an early morning hunt, then. No matter, there were other ways of summoning another wolf.
——-
The burn on his back had been surprising. His head shot up as the feeling intensified. It had to be one from the pack. What the hell? Why? Well, he knew why but why now?? Were they okay? Did they need something? Oh god something happened. Something was wrong and it was his fault somehow. It was because he didn’t get back to them earlier. He’d been meaning to, really he had, but something would come up every time he’d planned to go. Still, after a few minutes, the burning went away and there was nothing else. Alright, so maybe it was fine.
Not to long after that, his ears were met with a howl. Oh no. Howling was never good, and it was even worse if the guards heard. There were always guards outside, and surely if he didn’t leave right this instant they’d reach the were first. But the gryphon would surely lose it if he left. Still, unlike the pack member, the gryphon would most likely be fine without him. With this in mind, he stood, already tense and just ready to go. ”I have to tend to an emergency. Ceridwen I... you should come with me?” He left it as an odd question. She didn’t have to come with but if they guards acted and didn’t listen to him, well, he didn’t want anymore blood on his hands. And he wanted her to met the pack, but that seemed a little less important in the face of what could happen if he didn’t get out there.

Cherry. That was interesting. It would make for an interesting name once Akela found what the rest of the name would be - unless the gryphon decided its name was going to just be Cherry. Ceridwen liked it, though. Cherry something or just Cherry. ”Sounds like you’ll have a fitting name before long,” she replied with a smile on her face. Akela and the hatchling would make for a great pair, and Ceridwen was excited to see how they grew together.
There was a lot more Ceridwen would have liked to say or ask, but Ceridwen immediately noticed that something was up when Akela’s head shot up. That was something he just didn’t do unless something was up.
”What is it?” The mage asked in a breathy voice. Concern flashed in her green eyes as she looked the were over for a while; he looked tense and worried. Was something out in the woods? Something dangerous that only he could feel right now? Was something threatening the palace? Even with all of these questions in mind Ceridwen had no problem agreeing to go with him. She wasn’t about to let Akela face the unknown by himself. ”I’ll be right beside you,” she reassured him with a firm nod.

Cherry felt right when he looked at the hatchling. The rest of it was... well, it was lost on him. Surely it would come to him at a later time, but for right now, Cherry sounded good enough to him. With Ceridwen's compliment, the lupine grinned a little. Well if she thought so, then it must be true.
Sadly, he didn't get the ability to dwell on the idea.
The burn followed by the howl didn't quite sit right with him. The idea that the palce guards could get out there first was worse. So when his partener questioned him, Akela found that no true words were being formed. Great, amazing, best answer. Rather he gave a quick yet vague motion towards where he approximated the woods to be based on the placement of the enclosure's windows. Something was out there, and he had to get to it first. With a confirmation that he wouldn't be leaving alone the were only nodded a little before he took his leave once more.

Whatever was going on was certainly important. Too important to just ignore. If Akela was in such a rush to figure out what was going on, Ceridwen knew not to ask too many questions and to get on with it. No telling what could be happening out there.
Making sure that she could keep up if Akela shifted into his wolf form, the redhead gathered up some magic. She would use the speed of her lioness to help her along if Akela sped up or even just turned into a wolf. Since she couldn't do that herself she would have to find a way to follow after him and not get left behind.
Ceridwen rushed on forward, keeping up with Akela well enough for now. She didn't need the extra umph from her lioness just yet. For a moment she considered just using her magic already, but she bit back the impulsive thought. If she got ahead she wouldn't know where to go from here. Akela needed to be the one in charge, not her. So she held herself back, making sure to keep just slightly behind the werewolf.
--- ohhhh, I've never actually heard of that o:

Akela was nearing full panic mode. Panic made him move a little faster then he inteded. He was unsure how well Ceridwen was keeping up with him as he rushed out of the enclosure. Then again, she'd kept up rather well the day he had moved in. Actually, she'd kept up better than anybody he'd ever met. So, he wasn't worried about that. Actually, he didn't put more than two percent of his current thoughts towards that. Most of his mind was focused on the new event.
It wasn't a familar howl. He knew the two scouts he'd met, and he could estimate the sisters' howls. But this one? This was new. Even still, it seemed to be a howl of invitation, one that was mean to draw him out into the woods. That was the only things that caused him to think it was the pack. The pack that was forgotten among all the work he had to do. He'd done his best to plan a time, but the more he worked, the less he put thought into things that weren't his job.
The trip outside didn't take long. As soon as he was outside and had the proper room, the canine shifted and bolted. The guards were moving. Oh Spirits the guards looked like they wee going to investigate the noise. Had others already left? Were they just now getting their lives together in order to investigate the howl? No matter, he'd find a way to take care of it.
----
In the woods, Orion sat rather patiently, ears flicking with each new sound that assulted his senses and momentarily ruined his focus. There weren't many, maybe the occassional animal passing through, but other than that, all was peaceful. So he waited, tail flickng rhythmically as he momentaily took to taking in his surroundings. Well, this place certainly was beautiful. To live here would be wonderful. As of right now, it seemed that nature would provide them with more than they needed in both shelter and food, and surely many didn't travel through here.
Peace was interupted with the distant sound of footsteps. A few sets of them, actually. Standing up, the wolf stretched in anticipation. Perhaps the loner was coming with others? But who else was there to come with? Maybe children had wandered into the woods - it was a beautiful day for doing so. Or maybe hunters. He'd had a few run inswith those before he joined the pack... A short huff left him as he decided to prepare for the last, and admitedly the worst, scenario.

As soon as they exited the palace Ceridwen watched as Akela shifted into his wolf form. The ice mage was just about to use her magic to enhance her speed, but she noticed movement out of the corner of her eye. The redhead paused for a moment. As she did she noticed the concern of the guards and even noticed South Chaser. She had her head outstretched and nape feathers ruffled. Her wings were spread out as if she were about to launch herself into the air at any given moment. Ceridwen knew she had to take action.
Deciding right then that she could afford to hang back - she could find Akela later - the ice mage stopped in front of the guards. "We have this under control," she breathed, green eyes looking the guards over as they shifted on their feet. They wanted to go out and investigate. "If we need help, you'll know." Before she allowed the guards to respond, Ceridwen shot off to catch up with the werewolf.
Channeling the ability of her familiar, Ceridwen sprinted forward. She finally caught up enough to where she could see Akela a few yards ahead of her. Thoughts of what might be going on began to run through her mind again. Was it the new pack that Akela had mentioned some time earlier? A part of Ceridwen felt like it was. What else would have caught his attention so sharply as that? Well, on the off chance that it wasn't the pack, Ceridwen was sure to find out what it could be soon enough. All she had to do was keep up her pace and follow the trail. Easy enough.

As a wolf, it didn’t take much for him to hit his top speed. That meant it didn’t take much for him to cut off the couple of guards who had already left. He sent them back to the palace with a nearly growled statement of ‘I can handle this.’ They were reluctant, and but suspicious if the way they had just about flared at him was any sort of tell, but they left. Slowly, but surely the guards made their way back to the palace, surely waiting for any reason to turn and head towards the new situation. They wouldn’t have to, though. No, Akela could surely handle whatever this was.
So, he’d turned and took off once more. By then, it only took a couple minutes for him to reach the dark colored wolf, skidding to a halt, the canine found himself panting while the other simply looked him over.
“Alpha,” Orion greeted with a slight dip of the head. He only watched for a moment as the loner took this time to get his breath back. By then, he could hear another approaching, and it was only a moment later that he was able to begin making out her form. A human? She was quite fast for a human. Although, she smelled a bit off. Even still, the newcomer had to be a human of some sort. “Who is she?”
He had his breath back, yes, but he hadn’t been ready for such a question. Who was she? Surely the pack member was referring to Ceridwen. So... who was she? The other wolf would know she wasn’t of their blood, so what was the term now? Lover? Girlfriend? Mate? He didn’t know the etiquette here, so he hesitated. “She’s my, uh, mate. Yeah.” The term was foreign on his tongue, but it felt right to him. Although, it seemed the other was skeptical.
“You hesitated.”
The statement earned a warning growl, one that was well received. “Emily wants to speak with you. Now.” Orion had never been one for talking much, unless it was with the right person. As of right now, there was no right person. That meant it was straight to business.
Emily. Right, Emily. The alpha’s mate. She probably wanted answers on what was happening. He had answers, just hadn’t had the time to relay the information. Though, he supposed the pack was now forcing time in for it. Whatever worked, he supposed. Turning to Ceridwen, the wolf flicked an ear. “You up for a ride?” Now was as good a time as ever for her to meet the pack. He had to go out there, and she was already here, so it just made sense.

Ceridwen continued on through the woods. She dodged the undergrowth and trees with ease, the magic propelling her forward giving her a heightened ability of agility and nimbleness as well. She would have to thank the lioness later for the powerful gifts she could bestow upon Ceridwen. Some mages weren't as luck with their familiars. A few had animals such as a turtle, which was cute, but not entirely fast or strong, as their familiar. One of the scribes back at the palace, an air mage, had a sloth familiar. At least she was good at climbing, maybe?
Shaking off the thoughts, Ceridwen managed to start paying attention to her surroundings right before running past Akela and the new wolf.
She came to an abrupt stop, breathing heavily. Even if she had used magic, she still felt the after effects of running. The first thing she heard from the two wolves nearby was 'you hesitated', and immediately her interest was piqued. What had Akela hesitated about? What could he have had hesitated about? A part of her wanted to question it, but she kept her lips sealed. Right now wasn't the time for trivial questions. She needed to focus.
Emily? Who was Emily? Ceridwen shook her head. She would find out soon enough. No time for questions, she repeated to herself right as Akela brought a question to her.
A determined smile pulled at her lips. "Always," she responded, and with ease slipped atop the were's back. It was still a weird feeling compared to the back of a horse, but Ceridwen no longer minded the weirdness of it. She was getting to where she quite enjoyed wolf-back rides.

He didn’t know what she had heard. He also didn’t know how she actually felt about their relationship currently. He’d never thought to ask, just as he’d never put much thought into it. Rather, the lupine has grown comfortable with whatever they were just moved with it. He quite liked spending time with her, and would definitely be the first to admit to loving her, but he never got deeper than that. Maybe it was high time they talked about it? Well, no. Not now. This definitely wasn’t the time.
Right now he had to focus on what questions Emily could possibly have in store for him. Hopefully they’d be easy to answer. Surely they were just about living arrangements and such, so there wouldn’t be much to worry about.
So, when Ceridwen gave her answer and got on his back, the wolf shifted his weight a little to accommodate her.
Orion simply watched the exchange. Or, the redhead, more accurately. It was rare to see anybody riding a wolf, especially if they weren’t one themselves. Still, if the loner said they were mates, that had to be the end of it. For now, anyways. A moment long of simply staring ensued before he stood and turned, taking to a trot in the direction of the shelter.
Akela followed, barely half a pace behind the darker lupine. He was walking a bit to the left of the pack member, the path still a bit familiar to him, but not familiar enough.
It wasn’t long before the trip reached the makeshift camp; they reached the shelter only moments later. The wolf only gave slight nods of greeting to the other members present - still no Gwendolyn. Orion shifted back, making quick work of pushing his hair from his face and tying it up into a bun as he entered. “Emily, the loner is here. She brought her mate.”

It was bound to be odd for the other werewolf to see Ceridwen atop the back of Akela. It wasn't something that happened on a daily basis, or even something that happened often. This was perhaps the only werewolf and human pair that this had ever happened with. A strange sight to say the least about all of this.
While riding on the back of a wolf was fun and all, it was still different from being atop a horse. Ceridwen had to find new and different ways to keep herself atop Akela's back as he followed after the other were. Am I gripping his fur too tightly? She asked herself more than once, overly self-conscious about how she was holding on to the thick fur that made up his nape. There didn't seem to be any point in which Akela acted uncomfortable, so Ceridwen kept her worries to herself rather than saying them aloud. If something bothered the wolf then he would let her know.
The trip was silent until they made it to the camp. It seemed like a small and cozy area, a place that would make for a perfect camp ground for a week or two, but even to Ceridwen who had no experience with being in a pack or even living out in the wild she could tell that a lot of fixing up would be needed before this space could become a permanent home.
Ceridwen noticed two male wolves huddled close together, watching in silence as the dark-furred wolf led Akela and herself into the camp. One of the wolves, a white one, seemed a bit more welcoming to Akela and Ceridwen, while a cream colored wolf glanced at the redhead with narrowed eyes. He looked at Akela once, nodded his head, and then nudged the white wolf. Ceridwen could only wonder what was being said between the two.
These thoughts faded away when the other wolf shifted into his human form. Ceridwen looked him over briefly before slipping off of Akela's back when he had come to a full halt. She stood still and silent, allowing herself to become a mere part of the background for now. It wasn't her time to be placed into the spotlight.
Finally, a voice came from the make-shift shelter. "They may come inside. I'm excited to see Akela again, and excited to meet another alpha's mate."

The darker wolf didn’t have much to say on the situation. Well, actually he did, but it was it his business. So he kept silent as per usual on the way to their makeshift home.
Akela didn’t find reason to say anything either. He wasn’t being questioned, and the other canine didn’t have any sort of suspicion or hostility about it. So, he followed along easily though did his best to remain relatively steady. He wasn’t sure what kind of grip he mage had on his as of right now, and he didn’t want her to slip somehow and hurt herself. Right now, that was probably the worst thing that could happen.
Upon reaching the camp, the alpha slowed down significantly, glancing around until grey eyes landed on the pair he’d initially met. He returned Bracken’s nod with one of his own before facing forward once more. By then, Orion has shifted back and addressing the former alpha’s mate.
Once Ceridwen was back on the ground, the wolf shook out his pelt before shifting back. He took he redhead’s hand in his own, turning a little to simply look at her. She had questioned anything yet, which he found a little odd. It wasn’t like her to be so quiet...
His thoughts were interrupted when Emily spoke up. With her words he looked to the wolf that had brought them here who gave a slight nod and moved aside to let them in. The alpha entered the shelter tugging Ceridwen behind him. Offering a slight smile, Akela gave a nod of greeting. “I’m sorry I couldn’t make it back sooner. I was told you wanted to speak with me, though? Did something happen?”

happy valentines<3
There were a lot of questions that Ceridwen would have loved to ask. She had a lot of comments as well, but she managed to keep herself silent. For now at least. There was just something about all of this that was keeping her lips sealed. There seemed to be a sense of quite urgency, something that was keeping the redhead’s questions at bay.
She remained silent still as she followed Akela into the shelter. For a temporary home it was well-made, but Ceridwen knew that things would have to change before this place could ever be considered permanent. Then again, she was used to living in a high class palace, you couldn’t really get any higher up in living than a palace. Especially a palace with its own guards, spells, and dragons. But then again, Ceridwen could still see that this place would need work if any pack was going to live here, not just stay.
Ceridwen stood beside Akela, unconsciously reaching out to hold his hand. She was met by a black-haired woman with soft blue eyes and shorter in stature than Ceridwen herself. If it weren’t for Akela, Ceridwen probably would have found the werewolf cute, but obviously Ceridwen was with Akela, and the other werewolf...well, she probably had no interest in taking any other mate.
The mate of the former alpha shook her head. She smiled up at Akela. ”Don’t be sorry. I asked for Orion to bring you here due to some...impatient comments I’ve received.” Emily shifted somewhat uncomfortably after having said that. ”I understand that you must be busy, and that it’s hard to set aside time for other wolves, but the pack is growing impatient, Akela, and there’s not much I can do to keep them reassured.” Emily looked away as the words trailed off her tongue. Wolves didn’t like to admit that they were weak, but Emily knew she was. She had never been an alpha herself, merely the mate of one. At least she could appear stronger than she was, and that counted for something.

With the redhead's hand in his own, most of his worries were point to rest for a short amount of time. Upon entering the shelter, the lupine went through every worst-case-scenario that he could possibly go through. Maybe hunters were approaching? What if something had happened to the unborn pup? The simple idea of impatience was completely lost on him for the time being. Even still, just looking at Emily, it seemed that she was relatively calm. Well, as calm as she could be after losing her mate and her home all at once. Which, in retrospect, wasn't very calm, but that wasn't the main focus here.
Once the former alpha's mate had spoken up, Akela gave a slow nod. Right. Impatient comments. How long had it been since he'd promised to return with an answer? He'd lost track of the days what with his not sleeping or eating because he wound up putting all his extra time into his jobs without thinking twice about it. She looked uncomfortable, and for good reason. He was sure that he himself was getting there, what with the guilt of not returning sooner slowly creeping up on him. He should've come back, should have assured the pack that they could definitely stay in the woods. Their impatience was his own fault and he knew that.
He looked away for a second, squeezing Ceridwen's hand. "That's my fault - I've been working non-stop without thinking and kind of lost track of the days. I'm sorry." Pausing, he brought his gaze back to the were, taking a moment to collect his thoughts. "I've cleared up any possible issues with your stay. I'm still working on floor plans for a home, however you'll be safe in the woods."
Another pause, a few more thoughts that he figured should be illustrated. "I briefly considered offering to join the pack. Not necessisarily as alpha, unless y'all want me to? I mean, it's whatever you guys want, honestly. It was considered as a safety measure for staying in the woods, but I don't have to anymore. Unless you guys want me to, of course."
The alpha was rambling now, and Orion could tell. Dark honey eyes narrowed a little, he finally found it appropriate to speak up. "Why would we need to take safety measures?" It wasn't like the question was out of place, and he'd stayed quiet until now. What kind of safety measures would they possibly need to take that couldn't be taken care of themselves? Yes, they didn't have many members, but it wasn't like they couldn't take care of themselves.
Akela tensed a little noticeably at the question. There were a few moments of silence on his end as he weighed how specific he needed to be. "I just want to make sure what happened to me doesn't happen to you." That wasn't a sufficent answer, not in the slightest, but it was all that he was willing to say.
