{{ this is going to be terrible, please forgive me in advance sdaskdjjask }}
It was currently summer and unfortunately it was one of those summers that was beyond dreaded. No plans, no friends, nothing to do, which was the one feeling young Aurelia Grace absolutely hated. She always wanted to be up and doing things, as she was one to get bored easily. It didn’t help that she was a Gemini either, the most energized and slightly child-like of the zodiac signs. The Grace family traveled quite a bit, but this summer her mother and father would rather stay in the assiduous city of New York. Aurelia did not have a problem with the city, as it was mostly all she knew, but she had a problem with the strike of boredom. Letting out a sigh, she swung her legs over her bed and once her feet connected with the floor, she lightly bounced across the room to her bedroom door. She tucked a stray lock of chestnut hair behind her small ear before placing her hand on the knob and turning it slightly. Her whole body jumped when she bumped into the petite frame of her mother standing right on the other side. As her heartbeat slowed down and her breath became normal, her round sky-blue eyes met her mother’s face.
“You scared me! Do not do that again!” Aurelia giggled as she placed her right hand over her heart, not taking her eyes off her mother’s face. “Oh, I am so sorry dear! I did not mean to scare you! I was just going to come and place this brochure on your bedside table because I was not sure if you were awake yet or not, because I know for a fact that Declan is not.” Declan was Aurelia’s older step-brother, who was always sleeping due to the fact that he was so active with his workouts and his summer sports leagues. He was the son of her father, when he was married to the woman before her mom. Declan was shy at first when he first entered the Grace household, as he never thought his father would get a divorce with his preceding wife. As Aurelia broke him out of his shell, they were now as close to best friends as you could get, occasionally forgetting they were slightly related to one another. With an outstretched arm, Aurelia’s mother handed her a thin pamphlet that was swirled with scintillating hues of tangerine, amber, blush, and white. Ah, of course. Another camp brochure trying to make people want to attend by using colors that appeal to the senses, hoping to hit someone in the right mindset and getting them to attend. She rolled her eyes and chuckled a bit as she peeled back the front cover. There was a picture of an older gentleman and a paragraph filled with personal anecdotes. From New York, took over the camp from his father and reopened it, new construction transformed the camp….. Her eyes scanned this information, slightly gaining interest but not daring to show any of it. The son, Jonathan, looked like a young earthly man, definitely not ugly in any sense. At least the camp has a pretty name, Felicity. She slightly smiled as she flipped through more of the brochure. Aurelia came across the one thing she was looking for: pictures. The camp had everything a typical campsite would have, although this one seemed to have a much more modernistic vibe about it, which was definitely a plus. Her viewpoint of the camp was becoming increasingly positive as she flipped through the flimsy pages.
Suddenly her mother’s tender voice broke her immersion. “Wow, I’m surprised you even took that from me and started reading it. I for sure thought Aurelia Grace was not the type of girl to go to camp.” Her mother covered her cherry blossom colored lips as she let out a slight laugh. Aurelia would have found this offending, but she couldn’t help but let a slight laugh break through her lips. The way her mother said ‘Aurelia Grace’ was the reason she was laughing, as she said it so properly. However, she was not wrong. Aurelia definitely had the stature of a sophisticated female, always admiring the finer things in life. She kept her head high and never let anyone cross her, but you’ll just have to find out all the ups and downs of her personality when you meet her. “Oh, mom, I’m sure they have showers there. I mean, look how updated everything looks. It is not the type of camping dad’s side of the family does, with Declan, thank God.”
Aurelia’s father’s side of the family were raised to be outdoorsmen, always exploring around outside and doing extreme activities, many of which involved getting dirty. It caused Aurelia to shudder, as she could never picture herself being out in the “wild” and trying to “survive” only on “mother nature’s creations.” Her mother laughed once again and tucked a strand of her daughter’s hair behind her ear, her amber eyes filled with adoration. “Aurelia, I know we have not traveled this summer and you are upset about it, but maybe this camp will be a fun opportunity. You can meet new people and hopefully develop a….. different mindset in the views of nature and being outside and getting a little dirty. I went to camps around your age, and I turned out perfectly fine. If I can do it, I have no doubt that you will be able to do it as well. Plus, it is only for a few weeks. It is not like you are going to be there for months on end!” The words her mother spoke did uplift her spirits a little bit. Aurelia nodded her head and gazed back down at the brochure. Maybe mom is right. Maybe this will be a good experience for me. I have always wanted to discover different things about myself that I was not aware of. Plus, it could be good to get out of the busy city life for a while and just relax….. A smile started to dance at her lips. “Okay, mom. I will take your word on this. I guess I should start packing then, because we have to be there sometime later tonight or tomorrow. The “early check-in” starts later tonight, so I guess we could make it if it does not take me too long to pack, but if it takes me longer, I guess we can just head out early in the morning.” Her mother clapped her hands together as a large smile caused her lips to part. “Oh, I am so glad you are giving this a try! You are going to love it!” Before Aurelia could even breathe, her mother quickly wrapped her petite body frame in hers and hugged her before turning around and scampering down the steps. Aurelia watched her mother, chuckling slightly before turning around and scanning her room and planning what to take with her.
------------
Declan indeed was awake, earlier than normal. He made a promise to himself that he would fix his sleeping schedule and start his workouts earlier in the day, either mid-afternoon or after dinnertime, not around ten or eleven o’clock at night. He didn’t like feeling lagged and tired, and he hated that this consistency had caused him to sleep in late almost every day, sleeping almost half the day away. He grunted as he struggled to get himself out of bed and to the shower. He rubbed his eyes and let out a large yawn before stopping as a figure was rummaging through drawers in the bathroom. “Ooooooh, look who is actually awake! Hi sleepyhead,” His step-sister Aurelia’s voice rang, with a hint of sarcasm swirled within it. He rolled his eyes and punched her lightly in the arm. “Yeah, I am alive, hi, whatever. Anyway, I need to shower, so hurry up doing whatever you are doing because I feel disgusting.” Aurelia furrowed her brows and put a hand on her hip as her blue eyes met his hazel ones. “Well sheesh, no need to be rude. Looks like you could use some more sleep! Oh, before I forget,” she scurried to her room, grabbed the Camp Felicity pamphlet and handed it to him. “We are going to this camp, so once you get out of the shower, I would advise that you start packing because we are going to try to leave tonight.” Declan’s face was morphed into a confused expression as Aurelia skipped away to her room laughing. Felicity? Sounds girly. I love how everyone tells me things at the last minute, it is so fantastic, like the best thing in the world if I am being honest. He huffed and rolled his eyes as he listened to the voice inside of his head. You are the one who is always hibernating, you idiot. No one tells you things at the last minute, you are just always sleeping and being lazy! The voice returned and he rummaged his hands through his hair, as if that would make it go away. He set the brochure on the countertop by the sink before stripping off his clothes and stepping into the shower.
Declan returned to his room and began to pack basic things to take with him. He had no reason to show up all flashy, as he knew Aurelia would be the one to take care of that. Sure, the camp did look modern, but he was still going to try to blend in with the other campers who were bound to show up, and not look like he was an outsider. He definitely had more expertise in the field of camping than Aurelia did, as the thought of getting dirty made her cringe and not want to take part. He began to laugh as images of his step-sister even trying to camp filled his mind. Oh, this is going to be fun. Let us see if she can even survive two days without calling home and trying to convince one of our parents to pick her up. A smirk emerged from his lips as he rummaged through his closet. He grabbed some fitted t-shirts, workout tank tops, and just two nicer shirts just in case. Pants-wise, he grabbed two pairs of tight jeans, one ripped and one not ripped, some khaki and dark colored shorts, and basketball shorts. The shoes he picked to pack consisted of vans, Nike’s, and some sandals just in case there was an opportunity for the pool. Declan then walked across the hall to the bathroom and began pulling together his travel sized bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, shaving cream, toothpaste, cologne, and deodorant. Since he had experience before with camping and traveling, he knew he would have enough necessities with him to get him through the trip. Content with the amount of luggage he had put together, he slung the overnight bag over his shoulder, turned off the lights, and exited the room.
------------
Aurelia’s music was filtering throughout the house as she was finishing up her packing for Camp Felicity. She was the type of girl who always had to have music with her, always. Like, it really was not an option. Without music, she felt like something was not right and that she was going crazy. She heard Declan’s heavy footsteps as the stairs creaked slightly whenever he hustled down them. He always gets done packing so quickly, I do not understand. Every vacation we have ever packed for, he always finishes first. I wish I had my life together like that. These thoughts filtered throughout her mind. Letting out a sigh, she continued folding clothes neatly and setting them inside her travel bag. “I know for a fact I am over packing, but you can never be too sure!” She said to herself, realizing that this issue was always the reason for her falling late and running behind every time the family planned to go somewhere. Tightly pressing down on the bundle of clothes and shoes, Aurelia zipped up her bag, slung it over her shoulder, and headed downstairs to meet the rest of the family so they could head out.

(And now I am off to sleep!! ^v^ Hope this is alright!)
Things had gotten hectic quickly. The kids had been out of school for only a few days before their parents had some business news dropped onto them. Being out of town for a week? Well. Aiko was certainly able to take care of herself. Rai? Their parents believed if he was left alone to his own devices for a week, they would not return to a house. There would be fire, food everywhere, an empty kitchen and starving children- perhaps they were exaggerating. Their eldest used to be such a sweet and easy going kid! He listened to what they said, did well in his lessons, and kept good friends. The move had been jarring, and when Rai emerged from his cocoon he was an entirely new person. In America, it seemed, he had room to rebel. Every kid in his school was loud. Every kid in his school had xyz thing and he just needed to have it too. Shampoos were switched with frosting or filled with dyes, buckets of water fell over teachers, his friends were no longer familiar faces who were polite and quiet- now they had metal in their face, color in their hair and disinterested voices- not to mention he even faked dying once! The parents had only just gotten over the intricate ink on their son’s skin and the dipping grades.
No. Takahashi Rai could not be left alone for a week.
He was too old for a sitter, and Aiko wouldn’t be able to keep him under wraps- Perhaps she wouldn’t care enough too. She could get quite into her own little world at times. More than once her parents had to slip food into her room and pry her, physically, away from whatever bauble or machinery she was making. Shove her outside with water and snacks and lock the door until she had been in the fresh air long enough. Secretly her parents wondered if she went to her friends house to play games instead of lingering in nature. However, Aiko simply didn’t have many friends. Two girls from school who came to study, and one of which came over any other time for fun. Aiko had settled into their move quickly, she had unpacked her things and began her tinkering in peace, and picked up English with more ease than her brother. At times, she found herself countering his frustration with words with quiet translations and a soft tug on his arm; He’d never thank her, she’d never ask him to. She rose to her brothers pranks only when he pulled things from her hands- or that hat from her head. The mighty Rai’s pride still ached over the black eye he gained from his sister’s fists and carried for a week.
No. Takahashi Aiko could not be left alone for a week either.
The pamphlet that had caught their eye while in town had turned out to be a blessing. A camp that started before their trip! It ended a day after they came home! Absolutely perfect. Rai and Aiko, however, had thought it was less than ideal.
“I’m old enough to take care of myself!” one complaint, “I don’t need him to watch me!” another complaint. Simultaneously. The parents hold back their grimaces, this would be a fight, at least for the moment. Rai would bend easy when he realized how he would essentially be tossed in nature. He’d frolic he would not , climb trees and swim. He’d have the time of his life! Aiko? She’d have to give up her blinking electronics and hand held devices. “MY ENTIRE REASON FOR LIVING!” she would complain and cross her thin arms across her chest with a huff.
~~~~~
In the end Aiko ended up smooshed in the back between bags, pillows and her brother. She still managed to curl her legs up and use them to prop up her 3ds. She didn’t care to look up once to inspect the green of the tree tunnel around her. She didn’t look up to see the glittering of the lake in the distance. She certainly didn’t look up when they stopped.
Rai had gone wide eyed and giddy at all of these sights. He wanted to be in those trees, he wanted to be in that lake, and he wanted to be out of the car as soon as possible. This was not only the perfect place to be outside, but with so many other campers and so many places to hide… it was the perfect place to pull pranks! Scaring cabins at night with poorly made costumes, telling scary stores, dropping mud and leaves onto people?! Great! And there was sure to be some sort of camp “bonding” experience that would be a competition that he could WIN.
So, Rai was out of the car in an instant, hauling all of his things out and hazardously across his person. Aiko was kicked out of the car, her 3ds was taken from her hand and dropped in the glove box, and then her things were slowly pushed into her hands. Their parents insisted they would stay until the kids would check in and then they’d leave them be. Both of the kids grumbled, “Great.” And neither of them meant it.
“Look kids! There are other campers here too. They all look so nice!”
“Yeah…sure” Aiko fiddles with her bag. A whole lot of them looked older than her.
“Don’t worry, your stuff will still be at the house when you get home. Though… Rai, when you get home you really need to go through yours.”
“Uh huh, sure, I have it exactly where I would like it.”
Their parents took their turn to grumble. They believed keeping a room clean really was quite a simple concept. Rai would beg to differ. Either way, the family ambles together down the main path, it was going to be an adventure for everybody.
