Post Apocalyptic A Jump In Roleplay
June 24th of 2052, when the world powers were constantly at each other's throat, the United States of America decided to drop the first Electron Bomb, or the newly advanced Atomic Bomb. For each of the seven continents, ten Electron Bombs were dropped, killing over three-fourths of the world's population, leaving few left to scavenge the earth for its remains. Many stayed hidden and how, twenty years after the bombs were set off, the air is finally suitable for breathing.

Jacob was a blacksmith, well... he was only by process of elimination because his teacher, and father, was killed by a mutated beast. Jacob's parents couldn't get a shelter during the bombing, he and his mother were walking along when a mutated beast jumped and killed his mother. He shot it dead and just sat there, Jacob had dark hair, icy blue eyes, was pale from fallout blocking out clouds, and had a gravelly voice from breathing in fallout his entire life.

Amaria Everlottte, one of the younger people after the bombs, pushed off the hatch, her mask pulled tight around her nose and mouth. Huh, my eyes aren't stinging, must've gotten use to it. It had been twenty years now since the bombs went off, so she'd heard, and rumors having been going around for the last two years that the air might finally be clearing up. She'd been outside only three times in the last two years for food and water. The air had been so polluted, her parents wouldn't let her do anything further. She use to listen for hours of her parents telling stories about what life was like before they lived in deep holes, sheltering them from something called radiation. They lived deep down in the backyard of a pretty county home that was still mostly in tact except for overgrowth, rotting of the wood and broken glass. Their town had been spared damage, all except the radiation and pollution, of course. She'd never seen a ray of light of a water droplet before. She didn't believe such things as rain and a sun could exist. It was impossible. She went to her normal spot at the edge of the village, which seemed very old, and pulled up water from the well. Her parents said it had been for recreational purposes, but, Amaria didn't quite understand. Suddenly, something broke through the sky and nearly blinded her. She had to blink the specks of light away and soft dawn rays shown down. What was it? "Sunlight?" She said softly, not believing it to be so. She panicked slightly, remembering she wasn't suppose to talk and her mask came undone, the cloth falling to the ground, but, as she breathed, the air was crisp and cold. She heard a soft noise and side-glanced over to see a boy maybe two years older than her? She'd never seen a boy before. Her father died when she was young. He'd left to try get more supplies, but got radiation poisoning and died before he made it back to them. Her mom had taken care of her most of her life, or, at least, what she remembered. "H-Hello." She greeted, voice stuttering at first.

Jacob heard a voice say 'hello' and raised his gun "Please i'll give you the hides just don't shoot!" he said shaking his gun. Jacob had gotten all too familiar with raiders recently. Jacob turned around in a full circle looking at the forest in front of him then the rotting town behind him. He knew the houses had been raided long ago, except for one, the forge the crowning jewel of the town of no-name he liked to call it. His father used to sell all kinds of things, and people would travel from far and wide just to get a gun, but now Jacob was running it, and due to a decrease in funds, raids became more and more frequent. He spotted a girl and walked towards her "Ohh... thank the lord!" he exclaimed "it's just one. So, what brings you here?" he asked in his gravelly voice.

Amaria wasn't sure what to make of his actions. Hides? Shoot? She eyed him curiously, though she kept an edge of suspicion. "What's that?" She asked, gesturing to the gun he had been pointing at her just a moment ago. "Oh, I know... It's a weapon. An object of malice created with the intent of death. That means... you're a bad person, like a bandit, thief or convict. Well, you can't take anything off me, there's nothing to take." She said confidently, proud of her knowledge and that she got to use it. A soft wind blew threw and she took her hair our of its messy bun, the pretty long locks of light blonde hair blowing gently in the wind, her dark green eyes confident and proud. She was in a simple white dress that was stained more of an off-white with age and she wore simple sandals. The dress was a bit to small for her and only want down to her fists. She held a weaved basket with an empty water pouch and enough space for food.

"Oh, you're a vault dweller" he said relieved "I make weapons and sell them to people in order to help them protect themselves. I was scared that you were a raider." Jacob peered at her basked "Here, i'll get you some food" He then started off, knowing his mom needed a burial near his father, and the rest of his neighbors. When he got to the forge and opened the door, and immense amount of steam was billowed out of the house. He made his way through the house, remembering he had to fix the supports on the ceiling, and fix that leaky roof. But he made it to the food bin. Where he offered her many fruits and meats such as Taro Root, Tatoes, Apples, and Henhen.

"Oh yeah sure!" he said placing the variety into her basket "and the reason I sell guns is the same you came to the surface, a boy's gotta eat. There's the huge town of Afteglow offers a huge amount of trade, but you gotta go through hell and back to get there alive" he said in an ironically bright tone "Anyone i gotta deal with this" he said in a much more somber tone, picking up his mother and carrying her to the graveyard where brass, stone, and wood headstones jutted out of the ground for hundreds of casualties. Jacob picked up a shovel and started to bury his mom.

The town was silent. Well, everything had been silent for months. He was exiled from The Crawl almost 82 days ago. He had been keeping track, not wanting his skills to dull. Being one of the few kids from there proficient in numbers, he considered it a rare skill. He did miss The Crawl, but he was the one responsible for his banishment. Stealing food was punishable by release, which was their special name for shoving people out of the bunker into the outside. No one came back from a release. He realized shortly after being cast out that it was safe, and he figured out some time later that the others probably didn't know that. He wanted to find the other released at first, but he had since given up hope that there was anyone else in the world besides him. He was sad about that, not because he was lonely, but because he had wanted someone to teach him how to read. Only the leaders in The Crawl knew how to read. His bare feet trudged along through the dirt as he walked, but he didn't care that they were dirty. He was small for his age, which he had counted to be eleven years and 120 days. His tattered coat that was far too big for him hung near his ankles, brushing the ground and collecting its own amount of dirt. He hugged a canvas sack close to him. He had been carrying it for 71 days, and had always admired the symbols on its front that he recognized as letters, as well as the faded picture of something round and red. It was then that he heard distant voices from around a corner. His eyes lit up as he broke into a ran towards them. He stopped in front of them, a naïve gap-toothed grin spreading across his face. "I'm Calder. Can you read?" he asked excitedly.

"I can read too..." Jacob called over from the graveyard slightly more cautiously than Amaria " Two people in one day..wow" he mumbled to himself "Mom would have freaked out" Jacob finished the process of burying her then kneeled and gave a quick ceremony and prayer before walking back to the kids "do you two have somewhere to stay the night near here?" He asked nervous about the night, despite it being morning. Jacob knew how far some people had to walk, and mutated beasts tended to hunt at night.

"Oh.. I think i've seen the hatch before" Said Jacob "I hope you guys didn't think i was a raider, and how many people are living down in that vault?" he asked curious about the vault life. Jacob was still quite confused by these children wandering alone, you scarcely ran into people, much less ones that have been able to survive alone, so he just assumed that they had gotten lucky. Jacob had just seen his mother die, but made two new friends that day, and friends were quite an alien concept to him.

Calder shook his head and brushed the long shaggy locks out of his face. "Not anymore. They made me leave. I've been alone for 82 days." he said proudly. He paused. "You have a mother?" he asked skeptically. "No one has a real mother." he said, crossing his arms.

Calder crossed his arms defiantly. "Harley is the only person that said he had a mother. I didn't believe him. He was released before I was. That was 399 days ago. You're not released. No one from The Crawl has parents." he said matter-of-factly. His stance still held a childish stubbornness. "If she is real, show me." he said, narrowing his eyes.

Jacob looked at the kid quizzicakly to gage his trustworthiness then answered Amaria's question "My parents weren't lucky enough to get a shelter during the bombing, but we got lucky because this area was almost untouched." He turned to Calder "So you have nowhere to stay? I can let you stay with me if you'd like" not wanting a kid to be alone during nuclear winter, and being curious about the kids past.

Calder stared at Jacob for a second, considering. He knew it was a good idea to stay with a group. Harley told him there was strength in numbers. "Will you teach me how to read?" he asked.

Calder scoffed. He wasn't a liar. He couldn't even be one if he tried. He had gotten into trouble because of that. He made a hmph noise and turned to follow Amaria.

Calder smiled triumphantly. "Now I'll be smarter than Harley. Have you seen him? He has blonde hair. He's really tall and skinny, maybe this big?" he asked, making a motion above his head.

Amaria lead the two to the back of the house and set down the basket. She pulled open the hatch and tied a rope around the handles of her basket and lowered it down on the pulley. Then, she began climbing down the ladder until she came to the platform where the rest of the travel was by stairs. She untied the basket and pulled on a different rope, closing the hatch once everyone was on the platform. "Mom," She called down, "I've brought guests." She picked up her basket and made her way down the long trek of stairs until they were at the bottom. She set down the basket on a quarts counter. She made her way over to the record player and crouched down, sifting through the different records, pulling one out. She set the record on its hold and turned it on. A soft music began to play before there was the sound of her mothers voice. "So, you've brought your friends home? That's nice -you remembered to shut the hatch, correct?" There was a pause. She looked over to her mom who was sitting in a chair in the corner. Her baby brother laid in her mom's arms. Her mother didn't look up and the two bodies looked lifeless and dull. "Yes, don't worry. I brought home food and water as well." She said in reply happily. Her mother began to speak again, though her lips didn't move. "Good. Now, introduce me to your friends!" Another pause and Amaria looked at the two as the soft music dragged on. "Go ahead, say hi to my mother. It'd be rude not to introduce yourselves." She prompted.

Calder looked suspiciously at the woman in the corner. He took a step back. The way she spoke, the way she moved-or, didn't- something didn't feel right. He looked up at Amaria, who hadn't budged. He gulped and complied. "I'm Calder." He paused. "How old are you? The leaders said there's no one older than them left." he asked, his confidence returning.

Calder raised his eyebrows quizzically. He looked over at Amaria and back at her mother. He stepped forward while she was busy at the counter and poked the woman in the arm. No response. Calder had never seen a baby before, but he that from what Leo had told him about his baby brother that babies were supposed to cry. This one didn't move at all. He backpedaled a few steps. This wasn't right. This wasn't right. He knew it, he knew mothers weren't real. He started backing slowly toward the door. He couldn't stop looking at the woman's eyes. Their dullness reminded him of the dead eyes that the tunnelers had. The reminder of tunnelers and their rows of sharp teeth pushed him farther, his steps quicker and more careless.

Calder looked at Jacob, motioning subtly toward the stairs. He had no idea why Amaria would keep bodies in her living room, and he didn't want to stick around to find out. As he put his foot on the first step, it made a loud creak. He froze.
